The crystals might not be special but they could be essential in creating lenses for scopes, extremely rare laser rifles, reinforced windows, and of course, decorations for the wealthy.
My idea is much like how a crystal radio works. Maybe these crystals tune the transmitters of the forestalls to the frequency required to repel the creatures. this would also make them highly sought after
For clarification: I found plenty of auger bits, but none of them have a solid cone center as seen on the fictitious things I posted on screen. That’s specifically what I’m looking for.
An Auger bit is exactly what you are looking for, as to the large cone center, yeah that is completely made up by fiction. You can find some rather massive ones if you look up "excavator with auger drill". That might help you out in the future. If i'd known what you were working on I could have sent you some pics from my construction site as we recently had one of these creating some holes for telephone poles. On a different note I love your videos, they help me with little projects I enjoy doing myself. They are always a relaxing way to spend my time watching and learning some of your techniques to use myself. Thanks for the great content man!
Might now be what you was looking for but a Rolling cutter bit. (drilling method for the discovery and extraction of hydrocarbons such as crude oil and natural gas. This type of tool is alternately referred to as a rock bit) Think of the Armadillo drill from movie Armageddon. This style of a bit could be used by the more wealthy mining companies. (the first thing i thought of when you was making the drill bit was Big Daddy from Bioshock lol)
Man Caleb, what a walk down memory lane there at the end. That recap was deserving of its own video for sure. This has been an incredible journey that you have taken us all on and I think that I speak for most of us here by saying thank you for sharing it with us. There is something special about what you have created and I for one cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Wild Imaginary West. Onward!
as an exploration geologist, i feel qualified to say we rarely use something as extravagant as a big screw. most mobile mining rigs like this use something called Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling
@@uncivilized_caveman It would in theory be able to cut through rocks, but the forces applied to the drill bit itself would be significant. Several other commentators claim that the stresses would be enough to shatter any real world metal drill bit, and while that's not my field of expertise I'm inclined to believe them. Real world rock drills tend to look like a shaft with a funny shaped blob on the end (the shape of the "blob" varies depending on style). You can see examples of a few different designs if you do an image search for "rock drill bit".
@Argosh they really don't HAVE many uses, that's the thing. They're good at pulling, so basically their only use is as a drill that simultaneously pulls itself inward and removes the waste from the hole, and for moving objects upward along their length. The third proposal (screw-treads, using a pair that counter-rotate) isn't efficient enough and has major drawbacks vs normal treads or wheels, so it's never been used.
Your music drop when you transition to the glamour shots is always a treat. Good editing. (also obviously cool diorama as well. love the imaginary wild west. you should do an art book)

Then there's also that scientist from the East who needs transparent crystals as she is experimenting with materials for lenses suitable to transmit Light Amplified by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It's a risky but rich business. Superb diorama, this really tells a story.
One of my favorite diaromas you've done so far!! The machine and its capabilities intrigue me, and I hope to see more of the workers' side of your new world. Bravo and well done, my friend!!
I've been here since the first WIW vid - and looking at that showreel at the end, it's only now I realise it's been quite the ride, hasn't it? Looking at the simpler, earlier builds compared to the stuff we're seeing now. It's been a fantastic ride, and I'm looking forwards to seeing what the next stop is.
It was so remarkable and simultaneously precious to see how many dioramas have been done in this Imaginary West. The music for the montage just felt sweet and homey. I've loved watching all of these and I get so excited for every new addition. Thank you for all your hard work, Boylei, and especially for sharing it with us 🙂
Your dioramas need to be in an art gallery or something....these are really great works of art straight from your imagination. What a talent! Your blessed man... keep it up! I always look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
I joined at 250k, what a journey man. Ive been through two relationships, a couple different jobs, some major life changes, but in that time and you’ve been a constant source of entertainment, all for free. I appreciate it.
8As someone with severe arachnophobia, I am supremely grateful you did a mining project *without* some giant man-eating spider in it. I am a little less thrilled about the several other mining projects which did have them then all being put in front of me one after the other. Great work as usual. I would absolutely hate to live in the Wild Imaginary West, but I can (usually) admire from afar.
That does look like an auger or archimedes screw, like others have said. Not really used for drilling deep holes (where transporting material out of the hole is very much a vital part), and more used in punching through and widening a hole in relatively thin material. You'd use an auger to put a hole into a cross bar. Archimedes Screw is a water transport system, using the screw ridges, rotation, and gravity to move water uphill.
Practical uses? Alternative energy. One of the miners accidentally zapped it somehow and found that it holds a charge. Could be the power source for that 1:1 Plasma repeater you made. Love the WIW

I just wanna say that the Wild Imaginary West has become a really cool place with some awesome concept dioramas. It has really shaped itself into a really neat setting. I think it would make for a very neat setting for a tabletop game.
BEAUTIFULLY DONE! -The Wear, Tear, And Weathering Convinces The Viewer Of Some Semblance Of Possibility Of Such A Device Being Possible! -Like It Was Taken From Real Life Itself!
You should do something like a gold panning operation on the side of a creek or river and have like a giant mountain lion lurking in the woods on a mountain side or something like a water moccasin waiting in a hole in the water
Another wonderful addition to the Wild Imaginary West! A possible use for the crystals being mined is that they are this universe's equivalent of industrial diamond: not too hard to be cut by good steel, but making the best tips and coating for other heavy or precision machinery. Or they could have piezoelectrical properties, being used not as batteries but semi-conductors in mechs and such.
I absolutely love the Imaginary Wild West. In fact, it's my favorite imaginary place. Honestly, I'd love to play a ttrpg based on the IWW. To the point that I've been toying with creating it myself. The only thing holding me back is that the IWW isn't my world and I don't want to step on any toes or mess anything up. Because only Boylei knows all the intricacies and I'm not trying to put my twist on this man's universe.
The cone with the spiral is more of an auger than a drill, while it has very limited use getting through strong rock, it's a wonderful tool for making holes in soft dirt!
Wow! I didn't realise you'd made so many models of the wild imaginary west, though when I come to think of it I've watched you make most of those, so I shouldn't be surprised. I like that there was no monster in this one. Monsters are fun to create and watch but its nice to have a change every so often. Love the moveable drilling rig.
Feels like such a short time since you started the WIW. Then I saw all of the projects I watched you build, that's so amazing. Congratulations on the journey Boylei! You make Sundays the absolute best!
