have a rear view (camera) for the heads-up display, so you can check no-one is sneaking up behind you. :-) . That's definitely a pretty cool functional helmet system. good job to the guy who developed it, and all the others who helped him.
Absolutely. A 360 camera view would be something an advanced power armor would have even if the FO-games don't really display it. Such a suit would also likely have active noise cancelling and enhancing systems as well, probably a flash protection and all that too but I guess full military speck would be too much and going beyond the scope of the project.

I’m sure more can be added to the hud. But the concepts used to translate the game hud to the real life hud is such a nice touch. Each change was so well thought out regarding what it would be in real life.
Something i would recommend is getting active hearing protection for that, cause you can amplify it to give better hearing, and itll deafen loud sounds too
Great work Ryan, and the update at the beginning was nice. We know you're working the project in the background but for something like this the little overview is nice to know what's up and what the issues are.

By the way, i doubt this message will get seen but i can forsee a problem with the armour being overheating, as all heavy suits that fully enclose a person tend to do. a potential solution i think could work is PSM "Ice packs" that stay at a consistent, tuneable temperature for hours all while being super cheap and easy to use. Get some bags of it, stitch a vest with pockets for the bags, and then either put that on the inside of the suit or keep it as a seperate garment. Nighthawkinlight made a great video on the topic, and i do genuinely believe it will be a real help in the future
Completly niave to making stuff and anything related to armor suites etc, but couldn't water cooling be implemented as well with the ice packs or by themself to help with overheating?
@@hacksmith What are your ideas for cooling the liquid? Heatsinks and fans are not very reliable, fast, and efficient, along with sensitive to dings and whatnot. Heating should be a bit easier, like with an aquarium heater.

I find it hilarious that the Power Armor in Fallout worked off pre-transistorized electronics and analog controls, but you made it a reality with modern electronics and a PLC.
13:43 maybe like,, something to tell you theres something behind you? So if ur backing up you wont smack into smth behind u (kinda like a baxkup camera, like the 'enemy HUD' in the top of the in-game power armor)
Maybe an air purity sensor too as well a thermometer (to check the internal temperature of the suit as well as the external temperature). Maybe the suit could have its own heating and cooling systems as well so if it’s really hot outside, you cool down inside or vice versa.
I'm not someone who played Fallout but I thought of some ideas 1) Show the time: it may be an unnecessary soul, but it's a small thing that can make it much more accessible for you (you don't want to pick up the phone/ask friends just to know what time it is because you didn't put something simple [I don't know if it's complicated or not I just see it everywhere (phones). 2) Telephone: so that you can talk to friends who call even if the suit is on you. 3) Checkpoints: Knowing where your car is in a car lot or in a crowd is something that can save you a lot of time. 4) gps: you're bad with directions, me too, but it doesn't matter, you don't know where to go, the suit can help you go/drive home or to your friend's house (if you're going there). 5) Knife: It would be much cooler if the giant armored suit had a knife that could go in and out at the pilot's will (I think that's what the suit's handler is called. 6) Shield/another knife: Think what would be cooler than one folding knife, two folding knives or a knife and a folding shield. 7) Logo: You can put a logo of the game, yours or even a random one, but with a logo on the chest it will be much cooler (Sorry if there are mistakes, I use google translate)
Thanks for saying that, I didn't know that's how most technological things work (and I repeat myself, I use a translator which makes writing 100% correct almost impossible (at least with what I use to translate) and I also forgot about that word "Clocks"😅😅@@ZachX888
for the gasmask maybe using a inflatable lining to move the mask up to a persons head or to create a seal with the head could be a cool thing to try out
Radio, Clock (24 hour format), GPS, and maybe motion detector on back and side to see if being sneaked up on. Also make them toggle-able. Make the rad meters background base 1

You did really well and I hope that your career turns out to be everything that you hope it will be and then some. Enjoy what you are doing as much as you can and keep a good work ethic in everything and the opportunities will keep coming.
i wonder if hacksmith will integrate a rubber wetsuit type of mesh under the armor that you can climb into that circulates water around the suit to keep the operator cool during use and makes it more of a air tight seal from the outside world so even in a vacuum type of room the operator will still be protected
Ryan. The disclaimer was not needed. He knows what he's doing and it's awesome. I recognize that mindset. He's lost "the fear" and just does things. Certainly a keeper.
If you changed your flir sensor package to something like a C3-X, they have the ability to overlay the thermal with the regular sensor so you can see the outlines of objects as well as the thermal signature. Something like that would be pretty helpful for navigating around cold surroundings that won't show up except as an amorphous blob of black and blue.
It'd be real neat to see the helmet feature other things for enhanced senses like external microphones that can pick up on frequencies outside your normal hearing range and tuning them to an audible range. Some proper ventilation might also be required since motorcycle helmets usually have some so it doesn't get too stuffy and uncomfortable. On that note too you could even preheat air potentially on all of the inflatable parts to keep you warm although I'm not sure how warm it is as is.
the hacksmith is just sucha great channel ngl because it fills our inner toddler by bringing these amazing things to life! and some are even practical! if i ever have the chance to take engineering a shot this would be my reason
13:55 time and sundown/sunrise if possible, in case you need to do a night operation to take advantage of your Night vision POV, perhaps even convicted it to a drones camera when it gets to the later parts of the build, just so that you have the option to go into an aerial POV as well for extreme scouting.
scrap the current gas mask and form a proper rubber seal around the mask when it closes and put a real hepa filter in the mouth port. have an inflating rubber cushion that expands to form around the neck to make a proper seal
If you're having trouble with the body armor and testing, I would highly recommend looking at Crash Makerspace's Red Hood Bulletproof body armor, which may give you some ideas on how to improve your armor design, which you can also see in his "3D Steel Lattice Super Armor" video, which uses 3D printed metal metamaterials to improve durability.
Printing it in metal would make the cost not just exorbitant, it will fly past the Voyager. Also, have you considered the weight? It would require an actual fusion reactor to move.
@@vos2693 It's not solid metal, the way it works is it's a layer of metal that is designed to break in very specific ways so it doesn't compromise the rest of the armor. It's actually extremely impressive, and withstood multiple .300 WM. There is another design that is extremely thin and can be molded to any shape.
Wish you guys actually sourced an l3 or elbit image infensifier tube for the night vision instead of a camera. It would have been more expensive for sure but it would have been insanely good in terms of being able to see in the dark without needing to use infrared lights. There are night vision recorders on the market that clip in front of the eyepiece and I'm sure with a little coding you could route the feed into the HUD.

Awesome video guys!
you and everyone else working there are so gifted
and smart
they're not gifted, they've worked and studied hard to get where they are
@@chrisbaillie9902 and they have funding. That the most important part.
wdym gifted.
Ah yes "gifted" for people with skill issue, and just hardwork and determination for people with goals
Oh boy the military is gonna be wanting this in the army
In the fallout 4 and 76, it shows what armour part damages or if the armour part it take off, full damages it or a little bit of damages it show you
This is Truly John Fallout.

have a rear view (camera) for the heads-up display, so you can check no-one is sneaking up behind you.
When the pub cheering scene with the power armor overlaid on the projector screen came on, I laughed so suddenly I pulled a back muscle hahaha
I absolutely love your channel and all of your projects. You're a very talented engineer and a great idealist. I have always said that if it can be made in a movie or game that there's a way to make it real and you and you're team have proven that.
Ryan was amazing and the format to have rotating hosts presenting the stuff they worked on is also super interesting to watch. Keep up the good and inspiring work!
I’m sure more can be added to the hud. But the concepts used to translate the game hud to the real life hud is such a nice touch. Each change was so well thought out regarding what it would be in real life.
7:38 Hey, look buddy, he's an engineer, that means he solves problems.
“And not like what is beauty, because that would fall under your purview of philosophy.”
“He solves practical problems”
@@MislabledLabelfor example, how is he gonna stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing him a structurally superfluous be-hind?
Something i would recommend is getting active hearing protection for that, cause you can amplify it to give better hearing, and itll deafen loud sounds too
Great work Ryan, and the update at the beginning was nice. We know you're working the project in the background but for something like this the little overview is nice to know what's up and what the issues are.
It’s really fun to watch someone with so much knowledge and skill do something that they clearly think is so cool. Honestly such a cool project from him and it’s awesome there’s a place where people get to make projects like this.
Even better -- the suit has liquid cooling. not temporary ice packs
@@hacksmith next you are going to tell us that it is also nuclear powered...
@@hacksmith What are your ideas for cooling the liquid? Heatsinks and fans are not very reliable, fast, and efficient, along with sensitive to dings and whatnot. Heating should be a bit easier, like with an aquarium heater.
Small heat exchanger with Peltier -- considering an Eight Sleep mattress can keep you warm (or cool) and its unit is only about 2L in size, we can go a bit more compact!
military:
i'll take 50 of those, why?
for fun of course :)
Yes, clunky armor who doesn't go thru door, that's be useful.
@@SaitoGray With a suit like that, every wall is a door soon to be made!
@@deviousspirit3156 they can barely manage to move in it.
It's an insanely cool projet, but let's be honest it just an ultra expensive cosplay, useless in any kind of real life application
@@SaitoGray I think that's the point of what they're trying to do...
If Hacksmith can get a somewhat jank but partially working prototype, i have a feeling the military has already tried and tested an actual working version.

That's what I was thinking😂
You need a radio tuner display hooked up to a radio so you can tune into the sounds of the wasteland, maybe a little equalizer that moves with the sound of the radio
Thanks!
Honestly I love the actual experience it shows. The actual job space of engineering. I want to see more of that on this channel as an aspiring engineer
thank you guys for doing this project Justice even if it takes years ill wait and watch

The amount of excitement boiling inside of me right now is immeasurable! I have wanted a HUD for so long, and I might see it become an actual thing soon! You guys at Hacksmith are awesome!!!
HUD ideas:
1. Apple air tag overlay
2. Yeah, a clock would be nice
3. Live translation
4. Radio comm strength to base station
5. Constellations overlay
6. Upcoming weather
Constellation overlay seems a bit much
Integration with equipped weapon gunsight... gunsight hud.
Also the option to turn off ir light. Everyone with an NV would see you as bright as christmas tree (and IR light isn't healthy for eyes).
@@deauthorsadeptus6920 Dunno why you think IR light isn't healthy for eyes.
@renascitur7051 it actually isn't, we can't see it, but it's still a spectrum of light and looking into it for extended periods of time can cause damage to occular nerves.
This just makes me want the official Hacksmith motorcycle helmet to come into reality.
this is really cool and way less gimmicky than I'd thought it would be, you should totally hire this kid
I just think it's amazing the way you share your experience and knowledge in the form of internships. It's an amazing way of contributing to the education of young engineers as well as probably the best form of fan interaction possible. Don't stop doing great work team Hacksmith!
And also, awesome job Ryan!
I find it hilarious that the Power Armor in Fallout worked off pre-transistorized electronics and analog controls, but you made it a reality with modern electronics and a PLC.
Look up "Systolic motivator". Fallout's power armor does contain transistors.
Bro are competing with F-35 pilots helmets 😂
Nah, but it’s still really cool!!
Bro is*
And they did it at 1/10,000th the cost
22:03 the full body movement when he is thinking/lost is soo on point. The head bobble is so accurate too!
13:43 maybe like,, something to tell you theres something behind you? So if ur backing up you wont smack into smth behind u (kinda like a baxkup camera, like the 'enemy HUD' in the top of the in-game power armor)
It could use the sensors from the Spiderman mask.
Maybe an air purity sensor too as well a thermometer (to check the internal temperature of the suit as well as the external temperature). Maybe the suit could have its own heating and cooling systems as well so if it’s really hot outside, you cool down inside or vice versa.
Also like an embedded AI assistant. You could use ChatGPT but it would kind of be like a Jarvis situation.
And the AI assistant could automatically adjust things for the suit to maintain homeostasis or for the suit wearer to be comfortable.
very faint cat easter egg at 7:07 in the big light
I'm not someone who played Fallout but I thought of some ideas
1) Show the time: it may be an unnecessary soul, but it's a small thing that can make it much more accessible for you (you don't want to pick up the phone/ask friends just to know what time it is because you didn't put something simple [I don't know if it's complicated or not I just see it everywhere (phones).
7) Logo: You can put a logo of the game, yours or even a random one, but with a logo on the chest it will be much cooler
(Sorry if there are mistakes, I use google translate)
1) Clocks are LITERALLY in every piece of technology, it's essential to how most electronic systems function.
Thanks for saying that, I didn't know that's how most technological things work (and I repeat myself, I use a translator which makes writing 100% correct almost impossible (at least with what I use to translate) and I also forgot about that word "Clocks"😅😅@@ZachX888
You need an air purity detector. And maybe flashbang protection with those welding glasses that instantly go dark in bright light. Internal comms.
that sounds perfect if they did a V2
Except flashbangs dont create light like in games
@@GooberDapple well then destructive interference patterns played through speakers and a pressurized helm
@@GooberDapple and still keep the flash protect just bc
🧂
for the gasmask maybe using a inflatable lining to move the mask up to a persons head or to create a seal with the head could be a cool thing to try out
Radio, Clock (24 hour format), GPS, and maybe motion detector on back and side to see if being sneaked up on. Also make them toggle-able. Make the rad meters background base 1
Yeah, these sensors need to be calibrated to background so they don't freak out randomly, only when radiation is actually elevated.
N an AI voice interaction feature.
Guys spray armour with coating made from polyurethane elastomer.
If anyone is wondering its used in armors, bullet proof cars...
It's claimed to be stronger than bare steel in terms of impact resistance, abrasion, resistance and overall durability.
We're coating it with a real life equivalent to adamantium, much better than linex
Amazing work! I love seeing the company grow and hope it reaches its full potential!
If the intern kid sees this, Good job. The work was very impressive, and being comfortable _and_ smooth on camera comes with time. It is not something that very many people at all have right away.
24:26 Make the torso slimmer and also the shoulder pads
It will look better with the legs
Actually @RC_basherit would help with the "getting stuck on the door" issue he had while on the 'quest'
@MaverickHenderson-u5n oh yeah sorry
Really admire your dedication! You put so much time and effort into every project you take on, it’s amazing. Not to mention the helmet looks dope 🙂
This HUD is awesome, and the cameras and all. Congrats !!!
It's not FLIR haha. Overlaying it over the camera is unnecessary seeing as it's already a transparent display. Your eyes see much better!
Time to binge some hacksmith!
Your editing is really damn good. Funny, snappy, and well shot.
That is amazing!! Great work!!!
That intern is a keeper, intelligent, funny, good on camera, great proyect 10/10
this feels like the electric stick lightsaber of your (hopefully) inevitable iron man suit.

Awesome series and Ryan did an absolutely amazing job on the helmet!
For a first time host Ryan was awesome. He's gotta be kept surely!
13:55 time and sundown/sunrise if possible, in case you need to do a night operation to take advantage of your Night vision POV, perhaps even convicted it to a drones camera when it gets to the later parts of the build, just so that you have the option to go into an aerial POV as well for extreme scouting.
so geeked by this project man cant wait to see how it turns out
Suchhh a cool suit! Looks like y'alls best one so far. Seeing Bogdan walking in it was menacing. Mega impressive work from the intern
Ryan did an amazing job with the build and as a host of the video!!!
Intern did a fantastic job hosting the video. For real!
scrap the current gas mask and form a proper rubber seal around the mask when it closes and put a real hepa filter in the mouth port. have an inflating rubber cushion that expands to form around the neck to make a proper seal
I think it would be pretty cool to somehow combine the heat vision and night vision (overlay parts over a certain temperature on the night vision)
You guys are absolute rockstars. This is awesome!
I saw that, incredible R&D process he went through!
@@nilok7 I was thinking the same thing! that armor would be legit here and the armor he made was way lighter than a solid steel plate
a clock and or the amount of daylight/time to daylight would probably be good for the headsup display
