@chris punter mods ARE still around now. 17 year old mod here. Our generation of mods kept the classic parka, fred perry, desert boots, levis etc. But we've added modern remakes of classic adidas trainers, different haircuts etc. Still sticking to our roots but listening to new music. @whonut I've always said it's like being in the mafia, if you were ever truely and honestly in it then you know you can never leave. I've been in it since 1980, I'm 44 years old and I've never gone goth, skinhead, psychobilly, scooterboy or what have you.
Cheers for the message sillyduffers. I'll clarify. Fortunately Weller has recently (re?) discovered that mod is short for modernism and has started to make records again that suggest he is still looking 'into tomorrow'. People conveniently forget that he got dropped from his label after abandoning the idea of 'guitar bands' and, at the end of the 80s, delivering an album of house-music. Mod revival? It's almost a contradiction in terms isn't it?

It's amazing how prosaic people are. Weller can write the most amazing and insightful lyrics and yet people seem to love him when he's being prosaic and stupid. A working class hero is something to be, but a dickhead hero like pricks like the Gallaghers is definitely not....Weller in his formative years (his 20s) was making progressive music with The Style Council and only got musically conservative when the label dropped him.
Mr Weller has got style, talent in abundance !!!!! Saw him in Newcastle Saturday absolutely brilliant set loved it ❤

Mod, clean living in difficult circumstances, in other words working class cool smart guys with aspirations.
I have that haircut its smart as fuck but its suits Weller way more than me
I’ve got the same one but fringe a tad longer. Still cut dead straight
What is mod an abbreviation for. The Who and Faces were making music which was new and fresh at the time - a good example for us all...
Modernist as in modern jazz.
