Easterlings were my first army, I think the warriors were my first Games Workshop product in fact! In 2006 they were indeed AU$35 for a box of 20 plastic warriors, and $20 for the command pack with the halberd captain and banner bearer with the really small banner with a snake design that looked more appropriate for Harad than Easterlings. I have a vague memory of the metal 3-pack warriors being available at the time the plastic infantry were sold, but that could've just been old stock in my local GW. I remember they had a massive wall of Lotr blister packs in the 2000s. The metal ones might've had a bit of an extended life by being released in the LotR Battle Games in Middle Earth, so maybe GW was still casting them for a bit after the metal ones probably should've been retired.
There was something about those Easterling helmets that really appealed to me as a kid, and I liked the lore blurb about them being extremely disciplined on the unit entry in the small rulebook that came with the Mines of Moria set.
Though I eventually moved on to 40k and other games and haven't played MESBG in years, I still have my thickly painted easterlings, and have been keeping them in a container of simple green for a few months to strip the paint off. Every now and then when I'm outside airbrushing other models I'll pull out a couple easterlings and scrub off the paint. My goal is to eventually repaint the lot of them, and seeing this army is definitely inspiring! I've also managed to pick up some of the metal and plastic kataphrakts because I definitely want to be playing easterlings when I return to this game!

Really amazing looking Easterling army mate, the muted tone is actually a really nice take. Usually you only see Easterlings with that really right Red & gold

@@middle-earthgaming4356 Yeah I tend to paint in more muted tones for MESBG just prefer the more real look over something super bright and crazy

Completely agree that’s why I do it, the colour grading in the film makes them look more muted so that’s why as I try to match the film aesthetic 👍

That was really cool going through the history of the army.

I know they're not exactly the focus of the army but man those rocky bases look gorgeous! Really liking how you go through the history of the army in the game as well, really nice touch. Would love to see similar videos for any other forces you have!
I've been planning on collecting Easterlings for years now and got pretty close to starting as a really good second hand deal came up (with some Khand to ally in) but considering the amount of stuff I still have to paint I wasn't super sad to see it snapped up pretty quickly.

I've almost just finished an Easterling force myself (ProxyWars models, and I don't intend to use them for MESBG, but still!) so this was really cool to see!

Wow 😮 incredible seeing them all together like that. You should show us how you're rebasing them if you got time. Ive got quite a few minis myself Id like to rebase. Not sure if I should just clip them off the base or just spend a few days scraping sand off lol
