Something i like to do... i deploy only one line of pikes and then i'll shield with every second frontline warrior. The pike behind the shielding model then supports the one to the side which isn't shielding. This way i habe still a lot of dice but can match the length of the battleline and i wont get surrounded.

Good video. I appreciate the in depth breakdown and the how to beat them. Not interested in picking up this army but on paper I didn't see a ton of ways gain an advantage over it with most armies. I still think its over tuned especially once you get to higher points and can take all three of the new heroes and approaching 45ish models. Very tough army list.
Yeah they're definitely hard to beat if your gameplan is going shieldwall to shield wall. The few times I've lost is to overwhelming magic, flying monsters, and poor dice and poor positioning.
@@kevinvanravenswaaij4060 ha yeah thats a tough set of circumstances to get W from the opposite side of the table. I built an 800 point list with gwahir, glorfindel, cirdan some elves and a bunch of hobbits, almost 50 models a bunch of march. One of the few things i think gives you a shot against this legion and against AoL but in the end decided to paint defenders of helms deep and go for best painted 🙃
@@polywags oh I didn't mean all that together! I've lost 3 games at tournaments so far, and those were the three reasons I lost those games haha. I've also had 4 draws. The rest have all been wins.

Love the video! I get your point on the Dragon Knights being too squishy, but don't you think the two at higher points provide you with a lot more tactical flexibility? At 750 you should be able to get the Emperor, Brorgir, war drum, a 30 man phalanx and 2 dragon knights with 2 kataphrakts with axes each. Sure, you lose about 5 models compared to running Rutabi. But you win out on versatility. Instead of one hero that can go up against the scarier stuff next to the Emperor, you now get two. Even better, you've got 2 little strike forces that can go after side objectives when needed, and provide a reliable punch when Brorgir botches his tremor rolls.
Hey, thanks for the question! I think especially at higher points the dragon Knights are more vulnerable, as your opponent is more likely to bring magic to the table. They're also more likely to have heroes that out match dragon Knights. I've just put the lists next to each other, and you lose about 6-7 bodies depending on troop choices, because you're also bringing more kataphracts. I don't think it's a bad option, I just prefer rutabi as she's such a good profile. If I need a small force to contest an objective, I can just send her with some infantry and the drum, and I'll be much more certain that the job gets done than sending a swingy dragon Knight.

Great video, helpful for me definitely! Thoughts are your talk about the bows though, again same with how you stated just my opinion but I feel like you should always include a few bows 2-5 in an army if you can. Whether they are terrible orc bows or good shooting being able to threaten/fight for stuff like objectives especially late game is handy. I single handley won a game with just a regular bow being able to pick off a guy on an objective that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to get to in time. Just a specific scenario of course but a few just gives you the utility and won't hurt you super badly I think. Still loved the video though and think its very useful information!
This video was a huge help! Do you think you could do a video on overall gameplay mechanics for MEBSG? Hard to understand things like two handed strikes, how pikeblocks work etc. Keep up the great content!

The Shadowlord is probably one of the best options in terms of allying. He could increase the chance that your Acolythes reach the combats without being shot to pieces a lot. Also, SL + F5 pikes could finanly be a way to make Morgulstalkers work :)
This videos is underrated, very useful for easterlings players like me, I have a doubt I hope you or the rest of your viewers can resolve me? Can u put an acolite a axe and he still have 2 attacks? If so, u can do it the same with the dragon knight a u will a have a F5 S5 A3 unit?
Yes, you can. You pay a point extra for the acolytes, and 5 points for a dragon Knight.
I have tried Drakes once or twice. They can have their moments, such as when one managed to wound the King of the Dead and make me a lot less worried about the damage he could do at F4 and 1A

Thanks man! Honestly? I'm not really sure. 1000pts just isn't really done in our local scene. If I were taking Easterlings I'd probably look to an ally to get more powerful toys in. Most likely mordor, and then I'd be looking at getting some morannons going, along with a fel beast and maybe a catapult. At that points level all the big toys come out so you want multiple ways to deal with threats. Brorgîr, witch King and catapult can all do that. Maybe chuck in kardush as well. If you really want to run pure Easterlings, I'd grab all the named heroes at that points level.
Another spicy option is allying with moria (yellow) for a dragon and a bat swarm or two. Maybe leave rutabi at home to horde out with goblins with F5 pike supports. You could grab a load of prowlers to be your front rank with pikes behind. Who cares if they're trapped, if they lose they're dead anyway.
But like I said, I don't have any tournament experience at 1k, so take this with a grain of salt. From what I've heard at 1k people don't event bring that many more bodies, but just bring more big toys. A Meta like that heavily favours magic and other tools that can shut down expensive things.

I'm curious to what your opinion is on a 500pts list. Of course, the dragon emperor is an auto-include but I wanted to add some cavalry as well for objectives and movement in general. At first I thought about:
dragon emperor, war drum and 17 warriors (6 swords and 11 pikes) and another warband with a dragon knight and some kataphracts to get to 500pts
However after watching your video maybe I'll use Brorgir instead, would you still use cavalry in this scenario? And if so, put them in the dragon emperor's warband for the free upgrade or not?
Yes to cav, and yes to them in emperor warband. I'd max out the emperor warband with black dragon infantry and a few kata's and give brorgîr a few Acolytes and a few normal warriors with pikes.

Great video with good strategy insights! I think it hard to build an impacting list at 800pts including 4 heroes (the emp, Rutabi, Brogir and a captain). Should I try to keep the number of figs above 40?
You could actually run the legion at 800 with just brorgîr, the emperor and rutabi, and maxing out the warbands with a healthy amount of Acolytes and kataphracts. But you're right, you probably want more might at that point and bringing a captain is a good idea.
Like I mentioned in the video, the LL starts to plateau at 800. It will still work really well, but other lists start catching up by adding more and more threats and elite units, while you have stopped adding new stuff since the 700pts mark.

How much can a wardragon move? Is it a option to fight against models on horse?
The rhunish war drake has a 6" move. It is not a monster, just an infantry model, so cavalry would knock it prone. They are really bad against cavalry! If they lose the fight when they get charged, they're most likely dead.
Followup thought for an upcoming 900p tournament: Im sticking to the LL and just adding more DKs.
I tried allying in mordor, but apart from losing the LL duel reroll, you also lose drums and phalanx it actually gets quite annoying to build a mixed force that doesnt feel gimped. Just adding guritz, kardush (you kind of need fury for c2-3 orcs frontline) and a bunch of morannons leaves you about 60p for 1 more cheap hero like a nazgul or captain. it doesnt feel great and I couldnt nail down a list Im happy with Im sticking to the LL for this one.
At 900 skip DK, just do emp+bro+rutabi+captain. Spam dudes. The captain is way more useful than a dk because of march, and less vulnerable because of the will and fate. Better to contest objectives with.
Hmm, I have a Easterling heavy cavalry core with some backup infantry and Mordor auxiliaries (some orc rabble and wolf riders). Can the Dragon Emperor be taken in a normal Easterling force, or does he need to be fielded in his own legion? I would not mind adding either him or the girl general from the Defence of the North supplement. If they need to be their own thing I am afraid I could no longer ally with Moddor and keep the special rules of both.
He can definitely be in a regular Easterling army, and he keeps all his rules. The rules you don't get are the legion rules, specifically free black dragon upgrades in his (and dragon Knight) warband, and the extra duel reroll for all heroes.

Honestly I'd take just the emperor and brorgîr at those points. Emp gets 3 kata's (one drum), 5 Acolytes, 10bd pikes. Brorgir gets 4 Acolytes and 6 regular pikes. Nice numbers and some solid heroes.

You should be winning shieldwall vs shieldwall anyway so brorgir only adds the option of fury and something like bladewrath. Is that worth 80pts? I rather have an extra knight. Warband spots are not a factor because model-wise you can fill up the knight warbands with BD and the emperor with regulars.
Archers give you an extra dimension. 4-6 archers D5 won't make much of a difference vs S4 anyway, so why deny yourself the flexibility of drumming somwhere and having the archers in key spots to make your opponent think twice about running their horsehero to the front. They still fight the same.
On archers: you're moving anyway so they're not going to shoot. If you want to threaten horse heroes from being in the open before engaging you can achieve that with Acolytes too. Shield is definitely worth it because about half your opponents will be running S3, and the shielding rule is the best special rule in the game. It can prolong the game if you need to, and lets you stretch out your line a bit if needed and focus hitting power in a key spot while the rest shields to buy time.
As for brorgîr, your comment makes me think that you simply haven't played with him yet. Grinding out shield wall to shield wall might work, but if your opponent is S4 they wound you twice as fast as the other way around. So you're a few bad rolls away from the tide shifting in your opponents favour and it going sideways incredibly fast.
Brorgîr doing two tremors on your opponents wall will decimate their position and numbers, allowing you to snowball instead.
If you want to grind wall to wall and have some shooting to mess with your opponent, maybe you should be playing minas tirith or iron Hills. Easterlings isn't the best army for it.
Every time I hear people talk about Tremor they expect massive damage. You won't roll more than 3inch half the time (kills maybe 2 dudes), meh. It can decimate, you shouldn't expect it to however.
Hey I just ordered a Easterling army and I have a Couple questions for you. Where do you put brogir when deploying? Is he in your pike block using his spear to support or is he more often doing his own thing? if you have the points is it fine to give the captain a shield? P.s. what is the best way to get axe conversion
Brorgîr is with the troops, to potentially use his might for heroic moves and such. But before combat it it wise to leave a gap in the pike block for brorgîr to sneak through and cast tremor. He's too fragile to have him run off and do his own thing.
Putting a shield on a captain is fine if you have points to spare, yeah. I got my axes from Perry miniatures agincourt box (French army), but you can also have them 3d printed or scavenge them from other bits. If you ask around your community someone might have some lying around

Hey I'm struggling to put together a list at 600 points. With the Dragon Emperor, Brorgir and a Captian the 2 smaller warbands don't seem great
It's an awkward points level. You could consider putting the captain on a horse and having it as a one-drop. A mounted hero to contest objectives or run off with light objects can be quite useful at times. But it's an awkward points amount for the LL for sure.
Is there a tip, where to find some onehanded axes for converting ?
Perry miniatures agincourt French army box is great for bits. 3d printing is also an option
Hi, I'm wondering what's happening when Dragon Emperor gets hit from siege engine. Lets say its Trebuchet. Do I have to make "In the way" test to check who has been hit? Palanquin or Emperor? What is happening next?
If its not a direct hit it wont hit the emperor at all. if it is a direct hit (read the siege engine rules) the DE's rules tell you exactly what happens. Basically he is immediately dismounted no matter what else happens which is really bad.
Do you consider better to take wk on fellbeast instead of borgir on 850p+?
Why not both? At 850+, you will want to expand beyond the legion anyway. You could take the witch King, or if you want to stay in Easterlings, khamul on fel beast.
A bit confused what you need to take the legion does it have to be dragon emperor if so can you run Rita I and amdur in the same list
Yes it has to be the emperor. The details can be found in the defence of the North supplement. Amdur is not available in the legion, so if you want to play him you will need to run a normal list without the LL bonuses
I noticed that you didn't mention the kataphracts in the basic troops section. Are they just not worth taking at all?
I usually take a few. You don't have a lot of space for cav bases, but they're great to grab objectives and guard flanks. Always black dragon upgrade, and if you're feeling spicy, give them an axe.
What makes you say 3 DKs isnt suitable in the LL (not that kind of list)? Rutabi is the cutoff point where I could imagine using DKs instead - brorgir and the DE feel to good obviously.
Because after brorgîr and the emperor you don't have the points left to run 3 DK's. The legion revolves around running a lot of warriors to capitalise on your pikes, massive banner effect, and fight bonuses.
One Question:
Why not fit Lances instead of Axes to the Kataphrakts?
