Great episode, Sir Robin. I especially liked the images of the woman's hand holding a shopping bag, the bus stop reflections, and the boy pointing skyward. Thanks for another great day of shooting.
awesome really Leica,I actually bought a Monochrome but it had a really bad hot pixel problem, I gave it back and got myself a different camera, Leica fixed the problem with a pixel mapping option on the new firmware leaving me quite regretful...
I've seen a few of your street photography videos and I have to say that you are the most invisible photographer on the streets I've come across on RUclips. The shots you get are excellent and are much more than the typical "person walking past a billboard", "person crossing a street", etc. You are truly in the moment. Love the shot of the woman's hand and the baby's hand pointing to the right...as well as many others. Very well done Sir Robin.
10:16 Ohhhh, RIchard Avedon or Irving Penn would have liked to take that photo. Great Video!!! Please, you have to make a video under the rain. Think about it.
Girl hand with bag against black bg, a winner, great shot. You were talking about cold, imagine St Petersburg in the winter when the streets are covered with snow, amazing to shoot hope you will be there. Over here we have a sea climate which means, soft summers and soft winters, never more than 3 days of snow in a whole year so snowy pictures are my favorite (one always like what one can't have hehehehe) Anyways, thanks again for sharing this weekly treat, stay safe and keep shooting !!!
Thank you! Yes, at one point I should go there in winter to shoot but I can't deny that I much rather go out in warmer climate. Shooting with gloves sucks and in St. Petersburg in winter you have no choice. Also battery life is way worse and in top of that my personal battery suffers too. 😣
Hammer Bilder! Du hättest fast alle als Favorit nennen können! Ich werde auch so ein Spaziergang probieren nächstes mal ich beruflich in St Petersburg bin.
So many great shots in this one, Robin! Nicely done. Love the hand holding the bag, the guy with the pigeon and the lady on the bus. The light in this episode is so awesome. I wonder if you can explain a bit more about the use of the filter, I never use them and would love to learn about how/why to do so.
Totally agree with the first photo of your selection: the B&W is exceptional. Big thanks for this new stroll in St Petersburg. You will soon have to think about making a new webzine.
Thank you Christian! I was already thinking about a new zine but my printer recommended to wait until next year since prices for paper are through the roof right now. 😩
Loving your images. The Q2 Monochrome is a bit of a dream machine. I'd absolutely love one of those. I better start putting some savings away. 😎 My favourite image was one of yours too The girls hand with the handbag hanging As you shot it i wasn't expecting that at all and as the image appeared on the TV screen I literally shouted out "Wohhhhh." Her other hand fumbling for a pocket. The light catching her hand so wonderfully to create some perfect contrast. A very unique image. Special. I like.👍 Thanks for another really great vid. So enjoyable. 🙏📷✌😎🖐
Awesome episode Sir Robin! And kudos for ripping it at f16 at only ISO 800 on the streets there and capturing a bunch of great pictures! I newer tried stopping all the way down to f16 myself with my Leica Q2 monochrom together with a colored (orange/red) filter on, just thinking ISO would need to be cranked way higher with those higher shutterspeeds for streetphotography. You just proved that this works just fine, no problem at all :)
Realy nice episode the Q2M looks like fantastic and you manage it so well ! do you know if the new firmware allows to focus and release with touch screen option like it does on the Q2 ?
Wow! Super productive day of shooting, Robin. So many great images, I lost count. It was a good thing you weren't constrained to a single roll of 36 as you are when you take out the M6. I know you shot with a red filter on the Q2M while in Mexico. I'm guessing the light isn't quite as intense in St Petersburg - is that why you switched to the orange filter? Still retained the deep blacks and high contrast look overall. This is one of your best videos of late. Of your favourites, #1 stands out for me.
Thank you Stuart. In Mexico I was using the red filter for consistency reasons. In Russia people's skin is much brighter and a red can look a little to much. Orange seems to be the best compromise.
So many great shots on this one, and the Q2M works so well. I’m guessing you are using the viewfinder all the time and never the back screen to compose?
Loved the video, loved the photos, didn't like at all how some of the photos have badly crushed blacks, is it the jpeg? video compression? Is it the Leica file?
This a fascinating video. Thank you! Question: I have the identical set up, but I cannot imagine shooting many of those images at 1/250, f14 and iso800 with a 1 stop loss via the filter. What kind of magic are you using??
Hey Robin, I'va asked that question a few times already to a bunch of yt'rs. So, what is the deal now with those shots you took directly into the sun? apparently those bright chequered sensor dots around the bright areas come only up when taking that kind of picture! some people gave the answer that they are being fixed by a firmware update and that its a minor problem the sensor has when the sunrays reflect directly. What is your opinion? have you had the firmware to the latest update? how do you handle these images in post and do you consider this issue the to be a downside of this camera? I am saving up for a q2 mono and want to know for sure what I am getting into as I am most of the time a landscape photographer. Best of luck to your future endeavours and thanks for your amazing content! greetings from luxembourg
Other cameras also show similar reflections. You can't get rid of it with a firmware update. To me it's not an issue at all. If it bothers you then better look into a different camera.
Do you normally shoot outdoors on a sunny day without a lens hood? Just curious. I have always used mine with the Q but it feels much smaller and more agile somehow without it, I'm wondering if you really notice any flare or contrast loss?
Love your Q2M videos. Q2M has beautiful files! I am surprised that with f16, 1/250, ISO 800 aaaand an orange filter it would give you enough exposure. I would have thought that Auto ISO would have been used.
Some great shots! I love the hand and nails shot...just beautiful!
Love this episode, Robin! S. Petersburg is definitely your city!

I love St. Petersburg all your videos from the city have such nice vibes to em.

It's one of those days. Sun is out, you feel great and everything works out. Great photos!
Love this video! Some really great shots, keep doing what you're doing!
The shot with the woman on the bus with the headscarf, quality picture 📷
just awesome. would be great to see you editing a photo or two, like the one of the couple in front of the building in the park
Thank you Armin. In a future video I am going to show my editing process. 👍

What a beautiful day! St. Petersburg definitely deserves a zine! 👍

Mach das! Macht echt viel Spaß dort zu fotografieren.

Thank you Dino. Check out my Q2 Monochrom review for more info about using filters. 👏
I love your work!!!

Thank you for the great videos. I’ve learned a lot based on your techniques. Your photos are inspiring to me to get out and shoot.
Awsome. Thank you. Looks like you had fun.

@@therealsirrobin Thanks for the explanation - tienes razon / makes perfect sense
St. Petersburg looks like a wonderful city.
So many great shots on this one, and the Q2M works so well. I’m guessing you are using the viewfinder all the time and never the back screen to compose?
I use the viewfinder most of the time but once in a while also the rear screen.
You are lucky to find a sunny day in St Petersburg😀
So far I've had many sunny days over there. Granted, most of those were in summer. 😆
Loved the video, loved the photos, didn't like at all how some of the photos have badly crushed blacks, is it the jpeg? video compression? Is it the Leica file?
It's personal choice. The files have plenty of detail in the shadows.
This a fascinating video. Thank you! Question: I have the identical set up, but I cannot imagine shooting many of those images at 1/250, f14 and iso800 with a 1 stop loss via the filter. What kind of magic are you using??

Any one of these shots could be my best shot in a year.
I appreciate that you give your exposure settings. How do you decide how much to underexpose to save the highlights?
I usually dial in - 1 stop because that works out most of the time.
Nice!
Like the shot of the women with the sunglasses (3:05).
Do you normally shoot outdoors on a sunny day without a lens hood? Just curious. I have always used mine with the Q but it feels much smaller and more agile somehow without it, I'm wondering if you really notice any flare or contrast loss?
On the Q2M I rarely use the hood since this way it's much quicker to take of the filter. And also the filter already gives some protection.
excellent
Love your Q2M videos. Q2M has beautiful files! I am surprised that with f16, 1/250, ISO 800 aaaand an orange filter it would give you enough exposure. I would have thought that Auto ISO would have been used.
cool.
Do you zone focus your shots?
Yes, I used zone focusing.
Wow, absolutely insane. 🙄
