after hearing my diesel chugging on my low speed mud mower for years, it's odd to hear a diesel engine on something that goes so fast. don't kid yourself! that thing is awesome!
Love the red rims and painted tires. When I seen the exhaust I thought it might be neat to have a small little "flapper" on the top. Great job. Nice machine!
Having been a diesel mechanic in my younger years and a newly minted go-kart builder, I'm inspired to go with diesel with my next build. Thanks for the inspiration.
man i like it the way it is, and with the painted wheels and white letter tires. the mismatched colors on the panels is what makes it charming! if all you did was finish painting the rims and the white letters id say its a winner for sure!
That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Lots of down low wheel spin. I have a video of a flamethrower I built on my channel that uses diesel. It's just the greatest fuel in the world.
That things awesome. Rollin coal on something small like that just wicked, a small Diesel engine toy would absolutely complete my garage. I'd try half the stuff I've done modding my automotive diesels on a small one👌🏻 The too low (chassis)comment, haha nothings too low when going custom.... It took me a while but i understand the low life a little better now.
Nice work! My single cylinder Onan DJA 3KW generator stops via a compression release electric solenoid. Works perfect, original factory design circa 1970. Stopping yours with compression release should be no problem.
That is absolutely awesome I wish I could toy around in my garage cuz I don't have one and just build silly things like we did when we were younger keep up the good work
That thing is pretty cool Doc! It rolls coal like a beast! I wonder if you could get a lower engagement spring for the torque converter. It seems to engage a little high in the RPM range. Awesome build!
Thank you, I appreciate the props! I'm looking into tuning the CVT to engage at a lower RPM, just searching the interwebs for different springs and weights. Also looking into tuning the driven unit a bit, too.
I have an old Yanmar 2 cylinder diesel tractor that didn't come with glow plugs. So to start it in cold weather I have to pull the compression release and let it spend over then release the compression release and it usually fires up. I don't think you'll wear out the compression release or the top of the valve by using it as a shut off. It gets plenty of oil to the top of the head. So no worries.
Sprocket's Garage No it didn't even come with one of those or a water pump. It cools the water by thermal something. lol When the hot water rises in the radiator it's cooled then sent to bottom to be circulated around the engine. Weird set up so you have to watch it so it want over heat.
cool build, just a heads up tho, I have that same engine on a minibike with a TAV torque converter, I took the driver apart and removed one of the springs to allow it to engage earlier hoping to keep the engine in its torque range... turns out its WAAYY better than usual. Give it a try. (poke around in my videos, I think I have one of the bike)
Sprocket's Garage i dont remember it was probably 16 years ago i remember it was a asymmetric belt, when i was using the 5.5 tecumseh i used stiffer Springs but with the 11 big motor only a weak one
Hey folks- I see a lot of you good people are digging this test drive video, but many haven't noticed that The Weasel is complete! Check out the big reveal video- lots of action, and a FLAMETHROWER exhaust! See it here>>> ruclips.net/video/yCspilJPN_k/видео.html
Love this project. Getting ready to start my own project but going to use a snow machine engine (Alaska). Will also us my project for a lesson in welding.
I like the kart if your using #35 chain try a racing kart chain type know as space chain it stays cool last 10 times longer and has very little stretch to it. I've used this type of chain for years and test to 110 mph at 140,000 links per minute.
bad ass little ride. first comment is: at high rpm's it sounds to me like a old V8 detriot diesel semi truck engine run straight pipes on it (love it) and my second comment is it would be awesome if you had more gears in the transmission .
May I advice putting diesel cleaner in, to help clean any crud out? As for any ideas for/if you decide to paint, may I suggest listening to the video, Rat Fink?
Dave Ackerman- Thanks. And... yeah. I sure as heck hope so. You're supposed to get better at things, not worse. lol Actually, I really didn't know how this was going to go. I've done some basic go kart stuff, and some tractor mods. This was new territory for me- with a few familiar elements. I'm working hard to get the finishing touches done on this.
if your gonna paint that puppy school bus yellow with cream white for the teeth with blood red splattered on them with a few pieces of leather stuck in them. The blood red would go great with the wheels and motor. After all it is Halloween season....
I sure hope I can find those wheels. I been searching for those on the net for a while and can only find wheel barrow wheels which clearly is not what you have. But hopefully I can find a pair. Thank you, and if you have any idea where I might have luck finding some, I'd greatly appreciate the help.
brother I think this is really really cool with what you did I've been building bikes and cars and custom Fab stuff 4/20 years and I give you two thumbs up on this man your energy your excitement your passion about this project with the diesel weasel it's bitchin man completely bitching. love it
I'm 72years old I'm Glad to see someone carrying on that kind of wild stuff.KEEP IT UP.
after hearing my diesel chugging on my low speed mud mower for years, it's odd to hear a diesel engine on something that goes so fast. don't kid yourself! that thing is awesome!
FearlessFront (Todd Christopher) is it giving you ideas for a diesel build again?? you could rat rod the side by side..
A torque converter is helpful
Paint the wheels red like it is and leave the body as is it looks dope
I basically did! Check out the reveal video!
Love the red rims and painted tires. When I seen the exhaust I thought it might be neat to have a small little "flapper" on the top. Great job. Nice machine!
dont even paint it bro look sick as is
Having been a diesel mechanic in my younger years and a newly minted go-kart builder, I'm inspired to go with diesel with my next build. Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome! There's video of it finished, too!
love that square body at 7:28. oh yeah, the kart too!
man i like it the way it is, and with the painted wheels and white letter tires. the mismatched colors on the panels is what makes it charming! if all you did was finish painting the rims and the white letters id say its a winner for sure!
Tony Fleetwood Pretty much. Check out the reveal video!
Awesome, love it. The red rims and white lettering on the the tires are perfect.
Wow, the weasel turned out great!!! Awesome job. Can't wait to see the final paint job.
That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Lots of down low wheel spin. I have a video of a flamethrower I built on my channel that uses diesel. It's just the greatest fuel in the world.
When I saw that motorcycle running up behind you through the smoke, I thought for a second it was the cops! LOL!
Now that is one awesome GO kart. Probably the best home made one I've seen on RUclips. Great job.
Thanks! But it gets even better than this! Check out my channel for the reveal video!
That things awesome.
Rollin coal on something small like that just wicked, a small Diesel engine toy would absolutely complete my garage.
I'd try half the stuff I've done modding my automotive diesels on a small one👌🏻

needs a turbo
Nakia Hearlson yes yes it does
Nimbus Nimbus it’s a diesel
Nimbus Nimbus almost all diesels have one
It will sound stupid with a tubo
Nakia Hearlson yup
That is one bad ass machine. Great work Doc
That is absolutely awesome I wish I could toy around in my garage cuz I don't have one and just build silly things like we did when we were younger keep up the good work
1. this thing is wicked!
2. I have the dash board kill lever on my cub except it kills the fuel pump
3. i want one
damn good job!
That thing doesnt need paint! It looks awesome just like it is!
Awesome Job there Doc...You've outdone yourself with this build! 10 Thumbs up!
Did you borrow 4 other people for that? :D
I'm a Human Octopus! ;)
GREAT PROJECT!!! Looks like a lot of fun to drive!!
Those little one-cylinder diesels sound like they're gonna' self-destruct at any minute!! I had a Robin/Subaru generator on my Semi with one in it.
rod builder Wait till I turbo this pig. meanwhile - you gotta watch the reveal video!
Very Nice! Should look really great with a paint job! I am sure it will! Great job!
That thing is awesome.. i love it. It's much faster than i thought it would be.
totally awesome wish i could have one with a custom Springer front end and bright red paint with chrome rims all decked out! & of course more power
Good healthy 'crack' to the motor sound. Nice.
Just seen this in the princes auto flyer today , great work getting into the flyer!
Nice job. Looks like you did your homework on all the engineering.
Also- You NEED to see the reveal video. You'll dig the exhaust flamethrower for sure! ruclips.net/video/yCspilJPN_k/видео.html
lowbuckfabrication why are you even here
Awesome job Doc!! I'm excited to see if this thing wins the build-off!!
I doubt it, but that's ok. I'm having a ball building this thing, and the contest just keeps me motivated.
Well it's all about fun really. Either way, good luck!
Sweet ride! You did her right. I love the front guard.
Sounds awesome and I only truly hope that low & slow turns out half as good is this!
I got faith in ya.
Sprocket's Garage thank you sir that is an honor that you of all people have faith in me!
I'm currently working on finishing up my diesel powered rat rod/street rod tractor right now.
looks good mate i hope my build here in Australia goes just as good i am building an off road mower with my son and his mower.
have a great day
mark
Feel free to post your build progress on the SG FB page! Link in video description.
super cool! sounds as good as it looks!
Really cool, love diesels in any size
I love the way it looks!
That thing is awesome! I need a Diesel Weasel!
Looks like fun great job.
Check out the finished product! ruclips.net/video/yCspilJPN_k/видео.html
Rollin coal!!!! I need this lol. Id run it even richer.... Id make it roal a nice black cloud.
Me too- I have a Yanmar 2T73 out of a Yanmar 135D, same deal. You you have that nifty "Thermostart" manifold preheater on yours?
Sprocket's Garage No it didn't even come with one of those or a water pump. It cools the water by thermal something. lol When the hot water rises in the radiator it's cooled then sent to bottom to be circulated around the engine. Weird set up so you have to watch it so it want over heat.
You nailed it again, Doc!!!
Flat black with the red wheels and some red pin stripes on the hood.
*NICE OLD SCHOOL JOB!* _WELL DONE!_
cool build, just a heads up tho, I have that same engine on a minibike with a TAV torque converter, I took the driver apart and removed one of the springs to allow it to engage earlier hoping to keep the engine in its torque range... turns out its WAAYY better than usual. Give it a try. (poke around in my videos, I think I have one of the bike)
Hvguy i did that to a briggs 11hp with a 3/4 torque converter and id worked awesome plus the engine was cruising
right?!?! its like that spring should never be there.
Sprocket's Garage i dont remember it was probably 16 years ago i remember it was a asymmetric belt, when i was using the 5.5 tecumseh i used stiffer Springs but with the 11 big motor only a weak one
Sprocket's Garage anyways that machine is awesome
that thing chooches pretty good! thumbs up man!
That thing is hilarious! Really cool great job!!!
Sprocket's Garage
Sprocket's Garage hi, lov ur video

Looks like a comfy ride awesome job
Now that's cool! Nice work.
Love this project. Getting ready to start my own project but going to use a snow machine engine (Alaska). Will also us my project for a lesson in welding.

you should fatten up the mixture and make that lil puppy roll coal. hahaa!
dosbox907 it already kinda does
Damn cool! Like the body style, kinda like an old tub rat rod. Just don't leave it out in the rain, that exhaust will fill right up....
Duncan MacKenzie No way. I don't want this thing to RUST! (LOL)

Man that is cool! makes me want to go build one! awesome job!!
I like the kart if your using #35 chain try a racing kart chain type know as space chain it stays cool last 10 times longer and has very little stretch to it. I've used this type of chain for years and test to 110 mph at 140,000 links per minute.

Dude! This thing looks great! Gives Carsandcameras a run for their money!
Still want to see that Honda GX360 twin in a project similar to this.
bubbles would love to have that. Get's 68 miles per gallon ''Trailer park boys''
Make sure you check out my channel
Awesome build
its time for a turbo, lol
Joey Heider yea and some taller gears or pulleys whatever it takes, it was slow as fuck lol so low n so slow.
May I advice putting diesel cleaner in, to help clean any crud out? As for any ideas for/if you decide to paint, may I suggest listening to the video, Rat Fink?
Holy crap this is the coolest thing you've built yet👍
Dave Ackerman- Thanks. And... yeah. I sure as heck hope so. You're supposed to get better at things, not worse. lol Actually, I really didn't know how this was going to go. I've done some basic go kart stuff, and some tractor mods. This was new territory for me- with a few familiar elements. I'm working hard to get the finishing touches done on this.
I like the kill lever. Probably a lot better for the engine than cutting off the intake.
This thing is awesome! Look into putting a small turbo on it in the future with a big ol smoke stack
I remember seeing this thing in hotrod magazine. Its pretty sweet!
One of the best moments of my life! Have you seen the "finished" video? I'm very happy with the flamethrower exhaust...lol
@@DocSprocket I'm watching it right now
Aesthetic vehicle. You deserve to be proud.
Neill Wylie Thank you- This wasn't finished, though! Check my channel for the Great Diesel Weasel Reveal Action video too see the finished beast!
