Another amazing hit from "Some kind of wonderful", one of the best movies and best era in music and entertainment in general, the 80s. Loved it then and still love it. I just turned 57 recently and this music is timeless, so are the movies. So great.

My late husband knew Charlie Sexton and his parents very well from the Austin, Texas area. I came across this video and it brought back great memories. I met him a few years after this song came out, with Doyle Bramhall + Arc Angels, they were the coolest, nicest guys you could ever imagine. I asked him about his cameo in "Thelma and Louise" and he was really shy about it. You can't ask for a nicer guy.Charlie, when are you coming back to Montreal?

Most "under-rated" rocker ever... He didn't fall for LA or the glam, just wrote and played and still does.. Name 10 people who are still doing it today on a nightly basis.. If you know where he is playing anytime and will promise he will sing "beats so lonely" please post it on there..It's on my bucket list to see this guy play in person!!!

did i ever comment on this? I LOVED Loved Loved this when it came out. Then Slowly I learned about him. then In 2008. I met him. He did a great little record W/ Shannon McNally (look it up). I asked him why he wanted to make the 1st Record he made when he Came Directly out of the Stevie Ray Vaughan school of Blues guitar playing. He told me; "Stevie would Leave the Stage, hand me HIS guitar .. i'm 14, 15..and I would Play w/ HIS Band w/o him even being on Stage. He did that w/ NO One Else.. Other people who 'sat in' Sat IN w/ Him.. which was a Thing.. BUT.. When it was time for me to make my record I wanted Keith Forsey. Keith did Billy Idol's stuff.. I wanted to BE Different than Stevie Ray Vaughan.. I wanted to be NEW! I was 17. I was not an OLD Blues Guitar kid.. I was ... " (that's a paraphrase, I wasn't taking notes.)

    Beat's so lonely
I bet it's lonely at the top
    She hesitates
But the beat will never stop
    Wanting him only
    But the people never see
    Her heart burning
That's the secret that she keeps
    Come on baby
    You know there's something missing
    Don't find nothing
    No more coincidences
    Pretty baby
Look in his eyes and you will see
    Things will happen
But only if they're meant to be
    Beat's so lonely
I bet it's lonely at the top
    So lonely at the top
    So lonely
    She said
    Beat's so lonely
If you let it be that way
She can't tell the difference anyway
    She thinks hold me
    But she's scared to say
She paid dearly for the answers of her days
    Answers of her
    Answers of her days
    Beat's so lonely
    As she waits so patiently
    Her heart's yearning
How she'd love him to see
    He's not hurting
But he wouldn't mind to be
    She still sees him
    She sees him interestingly
    Come on baby
    You know there's something missing
    Don't find nothing
    No more coincidences
    Pretty baby
Before you give him all you got
    Got to come closer
You got to give it one more shot
    Beat's so lonely
I bet she's lonely at the top
    So lonely at the top
    So lonely
    She said
    Beat's so lonely
If you let it be that way
She can't tell the difference anyway
    She thinks hold me
    But she's scared to say
She paid dearly for the answers of her days
    Answers of her days
    Answers of her days
    So lonely
    So lonely
    So lonely

So short story, when Jimmy Barnes was sans Cold Chisel, one of his first gigs was in Brisbane, QLD at a pretty small venue. After he did the first set, he left to take a break and introduced Charlie Sexton(band guitarist) to fill the void and he played this song, which I had never heard before but thought it was fantastic but being a Jimmy Barnes concert, promptly forgot about it after that. Fast forward, I end up at a hotel in Austin, Tx for a footy tournament and they have an Austin Wall of Fame of artists that come from the area, and there is Charlie. With the advent of the internet I was able to reconnect with this song and enjoy all over again.
