Happy playing with Bob Dylan's band all these years. Agree - he could have had a very successful solo career had he wanted it. Lots of sacrifices though. And I think in his heart he is more of a guitarist than a lead guy.
@@heatherreeddykes7231 Yeah, I'm a Charlie Fan..and bad timing, crappy marketing...his focus on substance over gimmicks...it made alot of wonder what to do with him...thats my guess. But in the end i think he's happy..plays quite alot and has made so many outstanding contributions.
Great song and performance! There were a couple of times that his eyes were saying, "What's wrong with this crowd?". They look like the kids from 1955 who were listening to Marty McFly jam 😂. Huge Charlie Sexton fan!!
I had this album I loved Charlie, he had a really great vocal style and was just beautiful!!! Great underrated tune, I would have been incapable of standing still however!!🎵🎶🌠👍☺️
Awesome !!! 30 plus years ago now - still resinates !!! This was obviously Charlies early and awesome days !!! What a frickin dead audience tho - I would have been dancing and singing along at the same time !!
oh man!! Sexton had , All the 80's icons accessories, and he had the guitar chops too!!, I love this song!! Surrounded by great musicians, they sure had his back! This look was short-lived, I bet he feels lucky getting out just in time, Arc Angels!!!! Whoo!! Doyle!!!
Crazy good. Especially at 17 years old. The only thing that bugs is the back up players a.k.a. keyboard and other guitar are a bit too enthusiastic. It's The Charlie show but, nonetheless, great. Saw Arc Angels 2012. Kicked ass. True musician.
What the hell is wrong with that audience?? I remember seeing him live with my sister the whole audience was dancing and jumping all over the place enjoying his music ❤
On this day in 1986 {April 19th} a music video of Charlie Sexton's "Beat's So Lonely" was aired on the Dick Clark's ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at position #54 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, four weeks earlier it had peaked at #17 {for three weeks} and it spent twenty weeks on the Top 100... Charles Wayne Sexton will celebrate his 51st birthday this coming August 11th, 2019...
OMG was this video shot in a morgue, or what??? Jeez not too lively crowd, or maybe it was the first time they ever heard Charlie Sexton. I don't recall him playing any dates close enough for me to see him in person, but I'll tell ya what I would've shown a lot more enthusiam than these people. I think anyone who ever had a chance to see him live had something special going for them :)
TEXAS spawned another David Bowie: Charlie is the epitome of cool - my fav' version of his musical evolution were with the Arc Angels - killer blues/rock band.
@@niece7959 I love it all. Bob Dylan, his work with Doyle Bramhall jr. I remember when this song came out and them saying he was doing sessions with Keith Richards at 15yo, plus all that other great stuff when he was still a kid. I believe he’s 17 here.
@@paulotonedef I went and saw him in concert when he was touring on this album. Something really cool, while we were all in line waiting to get in, he comes walking out and walking by us to say hi. Such a great memory!
I love it but my goodness the crowd is "Dead" to say the least !! Were they sippin ambien milkshakes or what ?? Charlie Sexton is one of my all time favorites and here in the states we would have been a "more energetic crowd"
Your comment is spot on. I scrolled here to post the same thing. Saw this cat in Michigan in ‘85 or ‘86. Really good live show, and we were NOT drinking ambien shakes haha. 😉 This crowd is asleep at the wheel.
Charlie took over for Jesse Taylor at 12 years of age, after Jesse lost a fight with a brick wall. SRV was his babysitter, Joe Ely took him on tour. David Grissom as well. Double Trouble (Whipper & Tommy) played with Malford, Grissom & David Holt and with Charlie & Doyle 2 as Arc Angels. Arc Angels is on tour now.
This song was not only featured in the John Hughes film “Some Kind of Wonderful“, but written into the plot’s climactic party scene. That being said; how is it excluded from the soundtrack? saw him and Peter Frampton cutting heads to White Light White Heat at Bowie's Glass Spider show in Dallas in '87. The clips I've seen online from that tour don't show them really going back and forth like they did at that show. It was really cool.
Charlie is way underrated as a guitarist.
Voice of Billy Idol, pop look of Rick Springfield, and edginess of The Stones... why is he not a SUPERSTAR??????????
The solo guitar is white Hot , the Stones would be jealous
Great artist!

Cause he like living to much to a sell out!
He has had an almost 40 year career in music that is still going strong not many people can say that.

@@gplunk always possible!
Nah he's just embarrassed about his hair they made him wear
One of THE GREAT tunes of the 80s.
UNDERRATED VOCALIST
One of the best guitar solos of all time. 3:45
that crowd did not deserve him
Saw him in 85/86 on his TX tour. Been a fan ever since. So talented and easy on the eyes. 😁
Saw him a few night ago in NYC, playing lead guitar for Bob Dylan. He was superb.
mustve got better at solos lol i always thought his guitar playing sounded like a good looking guy playing guitar lol
Not only an incredible musician, and super cool guy! 🥰
And he was such as young kid here--mind boggling.
His music, his style, his appeal is timeless, Charlie Sexton never gets old 🎸

Amazing 1980s rocker. What a tune!

Texas Young American mind melded into a New Age Bowie....Grits to Ritz...
Saw him with a friend at some place in Jersey. Stole his guitar pic and always loved him.
Love this tune!

He was 16 years old when he did the song I love this song found it on a film called some kind of wonderful
When you end up touring with David Bowie and Bob Dylan, you are pretty AMAZING!! 🙌🏼❤️ I was obsessed with him in the 80s and it’s been reignited!
Also playing in Elvis Costello’s band, the Imposters, on their tour in Fall, 2022.

Edward scissor hands rocking out!🎸🎸

Gorgeous, prodigy and a very nice person.
Some kind of wonderfull

Charlie handles his axe the way cousin Edward handles his scissorhands 😂. Each like an extension of themselves.

Are you kidding???? I had the worst celebrity crush on him
Swoon worthy both then and now. A crush for the ages. Charlie rocks.
...love him....if the supermodel Verushka...and the vampire Lestat...had a son....it would be Charlie Sexton....he is the vampire rockstar ....
Its up there with as good as rock n roll gets
He should have been more than a flash in the pan...Charlie had some Chops besides the Texas to Bowie Transfer.
His Solo is awesome
MrMotorNerd I agree and the guy is a true musician and has talent.

No regrets ~ Carpe Diem!
WOW....What is wrong with that audience? Maybe they didn't know the song.....I first heard it in the movie "Some Kinda Wonderful"....GREAT SONG!!!!!!
They were Japanese and it was 1980, lol.
The audience seems to be the walking dead.
Japanese? I'm sure the British are absolutely nowhere near Japan.
Charlie was 17 years old here. 6 of those years were spent on the hair (his joke, not mine)
My only wish at the moment: a Telecaster.

if you were a young romantic, you wanted to be CS....
Not to take away from Charlie's talent but consider that hair mousse came along at the same time and he certainly put it to good use.
The lady on keyboards needs to settle down
dead
Shot a mannequin factory?
They know they don't need to lip sync 🤟
Keep in mind, he’s like 17-18 here. 😮

Rumour has it he could have been as rich as Elton John, but his hairspray bill comes to £102million each year.
why is the crowd so still ?
What is wrong with those people. I would have been in full session. We are talking full on in need of sedation and a gurney!!!

jump to 4 minutes if you aren't convinced that Charlie is one of the great guitarists that Bowie loved and who loved / adored Bowie

Charlie was up for the role of Eric Draven in The Crow. He turned it down and the studio went with the late Brandon Lee
just imagine if he did...would he have been shot in Lees place? Or was that in fact an assassination of Brandon Lee? We will probably never know.
Wow, I didn’t know he acted too. Considering what happened with Brandon Lee, might have been good thing Charlie didn’t get the part.
