I am 48 years old and I played this song on the juke box while I was out with my best friend, Billy at a club and he was 75 years old. Before I put this song on, I asked him if he ever heard of it (becuz of our age gap) and he shook his head no. When this song started to play Billy immediately got out of his chair and we both danced together until the song ended. RIP my dear best buddy I will never forget you. Thank you for dancing with me I will miss you always. He just passed away yesterday from cancer. Age is just a number and friendship is priceless. This song and him will touch my heart forever. Long Live Billy!!

The music from the 70s and 80s was fabulous. I started listening to Bowie when Ziggy Stardust first came out. I listened to the Psychedelic Furs from their start. I was born in 56, so I was in high school in 1970. Groups like the Psychedelic Furs were not pop, so most people never heard of them. Tears for Fears, Echo and the Bunnymen, Modern English, Midnight Oil, Simple Minds, The Call, etc. These are all alternative. Some became big, some didn't. Many, many more never made it big, but were fantastic. James! Oh, no, how could I forget the Pretenders?? They were my first alternative/punk band.

I absolutely love this song! It brings me back to when I was 17 y.o. I used to listen to music until late on a stereo we had. I used to record music from the radio into cassettes. It was such an achievement when the radio station left the songs without "watermark" so I could get the song clean. Yes... life was so much simpler then.

The miserable day and a frustrating night that refuses to end. The radio is on, the car windows cracked open to let in the crisp autumn air, and I'm waiting for the turn arrow so I can be home in about 45 second afterwards. This song comes on, the windows are rolled down, and the volume is cranked up to disturb the night. I stay on the main road and drive past my turn so I won't wake up the neighbors. I drive about a quarter-mile out of the way before I turn back towards home. As I make the turn into my neighborhood the last notes fade away.
For such an awful day it ended so sweetly. Thank you FirstWave on SiriusXM. This was the song I needed.

One nite, on the 3rd floor, one kid spread the word 2 block your dorm door with thick towels. Someone got a long hose, attached it to the hallway bathroom faucet, turned it on full blast & created "slip 'n slide" down the entire hallway!!! We were all bellyflop sliding, ZOOM, down the hall!!! It was a beautiful night, summer, not too hot either. Stars out. I worse a psychedelic tie die outfit. Blue and white, blouse and pants. Went out dancing afterwards. I'll never forget that night. This jam too. Love you guys if your reading this! You left me good memories that night in the 1980's. And I knew whom you were like many bands before you hit the charts in USA. 💜💜💜

He embodies soft romanticism with his lyrics, masculine toughness with his voice, and individualism/artist with his style and the way he moves. He transcends gender. On November 1st, 2018, my boyfriend took me to see The Furs at the MPAC in NJ. He surprised me with front row seats. He held me tight around my waist when Heartbreak Beat came on and I leaned my head back against his chest as we sang this song together. It was such a magical night and a defined moment in our relationship. From that night on, we would always sing this song to each other.
