After I watched the Rusical, I was gagged that the queens wanted some of the CUNT parts and not Mama Z, they really wanted to play safe. I don't think that role was written to be the winner, I feel like it was between the Green Fairy, Mama Z and Saltine (no one from the CUNT would ever win), but Willow clearly was doing some of the choreo wrong and Bosco did the worst probably, so Lady won easily that.
I think some of them just don’t have that sort of energy to their drag. Yeah, it’s the winning role if you have what it takes, but it doesn’t fit a lot of these queens vibes in particular.

That's because you're right. That was back when they still had a "Lip Sync Extravaganza" challenge earlier in the season AND a Rusical challenge later in the season. Even in seasons where they didn't have both challenges, there was usually a distinction in what Ru would call the episode, if that makes sense. They only did that for a few seasons though, maybe like 7-10ish, and maybe a couple earlier ones if I remember correctly. Like season 7 had the Glamazonian Airways Lip Sync Extravaganza challenge, and then the Divine episode was basically the Rusical, for example. I don't think they've had a "Lip Sync Extravaganza" challenge since season 10 though... Probably because it was such a flop 😂
I really like the pharmarusical, it doesnt need a story because it's supposed to be an infomercial of some sort and it's actually funny. that being said I hate that Ru started the episode with "I love the pharmaceutical industry" like excuse me???? either way the musical made a good job at poking fun at the industry lol
I think Season 12 is probably the best season of DR. It's so clear that Sherry was intended to play a major role in the season, but because of her disqualification the producers had to scramble together an edit that made sense, and the only edit that was possible to create in such a short span of time... was an authentic edit. Very little storylines, no over-arching narrative roles (villain, obvious miss congeniality etc). No manufactured arguments, no edits of queens saying things out of the original context. S12 was, for the producers, the worst season they had ever had to make because of the situation. For fans, S12 is one of the best because its authenticity shines and radiates the same feeling as the earlier Drag Race seasons which weren't hyper-produced via edits. That being said, I still think the S12 rusical would be the best even if Sherry wasn't eliminated... so kinda off-topic.
It's also so much nicer to the queens in the challenges/edit compared to it's predecessor S13. In S13 it really felt like they wanted to fuck up the girl's minds from that very first lipsync episode. And that bitter energy was kept throughout the entire season
Totally agree. They used to do a "Lip Sync Extravaganza" challenge, like with Glamazonian Airways. And in even earlier seasons the Lip Sync Extravaganza challenge was a talking lip sync challenge - not songs, lip syncing people's voices, like in the one where they recreated previous iconic untucked fights in season 5.
Well usually saying somebody is “robbed” is for a reason only a few times is it by annoyed stans who hate that their fav lost but in Katya’s case she was robbed alot on AS2 having said that Alaska did deserve to win … but still that’s why AS2 isn’t my fav all star season it was basically the S5 reunion. AS6 was better.

Being hands on only works when both parties are feeling the moment which 90% of the time the lip syncs ends up being super sensual lmao.

I’ve noticed that the better Rusicals are always based off of something already existing ie the Madonna rusical, Rats, Kardashians & Moulin Ru. Whereas when they try to come up with something original, it always ends up being terrible like social media the rusical and pharmaceutical from season 10
i don't have any single memory of season10 rusical and it proves how bad it is. I think a rusical that has solid story line like what you mentioned is based off something is great, the other way around is like all stars where they basically design the role for each queen and let them shine equally. (so i guess depends on how much time the production spent on preparing it)

What made Jorgeous being in the bottom was her face. She was emotionless all the performance. That's what I think mean that they didn't get her character
I know it's not considerated a "Rusical" but the Las Vegas Live challenge from s12 along with the Madonna one are for me the best musical numbers of the whole franchise
the madonna musical completely encapsulates the essence of season 12 that is "Everyone here is a star" and I really think they should try and make more "iconic musical star" musicals because the cher and madonna musicals gave everyone a chance to stand out and they all got their own moment and we didn't have big unbalances with roles like with thorgy and ginger in the divas vh1/half time show because they are all playing the same star and if they want to parody an actual musical they should only do it they cast outstanding singers like Courtney and adore(or just leave to the UK queens lol).there is also so many possibilities such as Whitney prince bowie Janet Mariah Britney Christina Beyonce lady gaga Ariana Miley Katy Taylor

I know this is about the original franchise, but i love Under the Big Top from CDR. The groups did bad because of the choreo, but I think they were given a large enough part that they could've stood out. Plus we had some of the best performances of any rusical
I also think they didn't had enough time to get the choreo? Had they just had a day more or something all would've killed it (well... almost everyone). Big top and Rats are some of the very best rusicals with Herstory, Madonna and Shade.
Honestly I thought Bosco was just bad. Satine's part entirely depends on a specific presentation. I don't think she had to change her brows or anything but you need the combination of beauty and vulnerability, the romance of Satine that tied the story together and Bosco didn't really give me that. Camden would have probably killed it.
I think the reason behind us being unsatisfied behind bosco’s performance is that she didn’t have dynamic exaggerated expressions every minute like lady camden’s mama z. This is theater essentially and its fundamental that you embody your character to thoroughly express them really well(even exaggeratedly) on stage so audiences could immediately recognize what kind of character you are. Especially if you’re a viewer like me who have no idea yet about moulin rouge. How will you hook me into getting into it? How will you sell me a character I’ve never heard before? Bosco’s saltine was passable but she could have gone further with her expressions and the sneezing. It’s not a matter of changing eyebrows bcs as a viewer who hasn’t watched moulin rouge yet, that detail would have gone over my head tbh (altho i could understand if those who watched it wanted his eyebrows “unbosco-ed”). I got bored with how little change in expressions she had throughout even during the romantic part and she’s supposed to be THE main star. Mama Z on the other hand….if you look closely with lady camden, she had exaggerated expressions together with her movements. Her jaw and eyebrows and eyes move and express every word she’s saying. Aside from her graceful movements which she also exaggerated, you could immediately tell what kind of character she is alongside with being entertained at her change of facial expressions. She hooked me in eventho i have no idea who the heck mama z is, she made me want to see for myself who this mama z character is in the original moulin rouge(if there is even one).
there needs to be a larger discussion abt the scripts having big girl roles. first of all, ‘fat’ isn’t a personality trait. also, big girls in the cast shouldn’t be pigeon holed bc of their size. also most importantly, why are we still treating fat ppl’s size as a punchline? is anyone laughing? am i trapped in an adam sandler movie?
still baffled by the critique for April that was something like “you didn’t have a big girl energy.” as though a) only big girls have that big personality kinda energy that they’re alluding to or b) all big girls have that kind of energy. i’m a fat person and i’m crazy shy lmfao i’d fail that role if i was just being myself.

I think CDR2 rusical is the best ever. What makes it soo good is that the great performances are one of the best in the history of the show and the bad performances are soooo bad theyre hilarious
Shade the Rusical is still my absolute favourite. The good performances are really great and have depth, while the bad performances are so bad it's good again. I mean.. "wE aRE thE coMEdY QuEEnS" Truly iconic all around!
I think it helps that the queens sang their own vocals in the Madonna and Shade rusicals. It really lets them showcase their personalities and gives them more control over their part.
i wish the producers and/or composers of the rusicals would just commit to them either being lipsync challenges or live singing challenges. i agree i prefer the live singing, and i’m very confused why they change the format every couple years or so. i guess they don’t bother doing live singing ones if there aren’t competitors who are known for singing? but you don’t have to be a good singer to at least learn how to hold a note on stage imo.
I absolutely LOVED this Rusical. I usually don't care that much about these episodes, but this was such a great one. I really thought it was well written and everyone did a great job. I'm tired of the non eliminations, but at the same time it made all sense to me for nobody to go home in this episode because all the girls did so good (and I didn't want Bosco to go home too), so I'm happy.
Madonna the Rusical is still the best. The queens got to choose the roles, and they recorded the vocals as well. All the parts are also well-written. Although in real life no musical is like that, where one character appears one at a time, in a competition setting it's the most fair, because the usual format does have parts almost always guaranteed to win
Another proof that's why seasons with even numbers had the best rusicals: Shade (S6), B*tch Perfect (s8), Cher (S10), Madonna (S12) and Moulin Ru (s14). Also counts for Herstory of the World (AS2), Rats (uk2) and Under the Big Top (cdr2)
The reason why Gigi won was because we did not expect her to slay since she said she wasn't a dancer. Jan didn't cop the win because we expected her to slay.. But both did really great!!
About the whole Rusical concept, there are of course exceptions to this, but I think generally the ones where the queens record their parts with their own voices tend to be better performances and perhaps can be more aptly called as a rusical? Like I would say Cher was mor of a rusical than the "pharmarusical" (even though it's in the name) in season 10. But of course there are also pretty bad ones to this type like the social media one, just as the opposite can be true like DRHolland season 1 rusical or AS2
I liked the music to PharmaRusical, it was catchy, but the thing about it is, it's a series of advertisement jingles for fake products stapled together (kind of like Social Media). There's no plot (unlike Shade, Moulin Ru, Madonna / Cher / Kardashian, Bitch Perfect, etc. at times the plots were very simple but they were something)
The Kardashian rusical is still the best ever for me. From the 'I should've been blac chyna' to Alexis Michelle's iconic and win-worthy Kris Jenner to the genuinely catchy songs, it was so good. AS6, S8 and S14 were also undoubtedly legendary
I mean, the Lady Camden role had “Winner” written all over it. You don’t have the most lines and you don’t have to somehow magically carry the romance plot, and you don’t have to be the Essence of Charisma or whatever. I think Willow made the second-best choice as the absinthe fairy. That part felt like it was designed to be cut if they had done this challenge in an episode with fewer girls. (Makes you wonder, what unused Drag Race bit have we never seen before?)
If I had to guess locks for top four, I’d say Willow, Camden, and Angeria, I think the fourth slot is Bosco’s, but Jorgeous and Daya are within reach. I just don’t know what Deja Skye’s specialty is. She can sew, but she’s not a look/fashion queen. She also hasn’t pushed in as a comedy queen or much of a dancer. Her win in snatch game was mostly by circumstance, not because we saw her do the world’s best snatch game.
one thing i think is interesting is the divide between rusicals that are completely lipsynced vs rusicals that are sung live. like when they’re impersonaling celebrities like in AS3 or AS6 it makes sense to lipsync to tracks that are made to sound like those celebrities, but then we have the Madonna and Cher rusicals where they’re expected to mimic the artists’ voices live. after S6 went so well i’m surprised they rarely do live vocals anymore; i kinda wish they did because otherwise the rusicals are just another lipsyncing challenge and since a decent amount of drag artists do sing or act live, i’d appreciate if the rusicals were all sung live. we get so much lipsyncing that it does get old after a bit, and singing live adds variety and shows off another skill set that i honestly think often gets overlooked on drag race. also, S10 is so interesting because it did have two rusicals: pharmarusical and the Cher rusical. one was lipsynced with like 1000 people, one was sung live with like 7 or so queens. i’m curious about why production chose to have 2 rusicals in the same season, even if they did have completely different vibes and quality.
as for Rusicals.... I've never been a fan of this challenge because of the way it's judged. Feels like you've gotta outshine everyone else, even though the role itself doesn't necessarily have room for such a thing
Am i the only person who has a hard time remembering like anything from season 10 like only a few key moments but i completely blanked out the rusical the breast world most of the runways and lip syncs

Also I’m sorry if there lip syncing involved it’s not a real Rusical idc how good it is yeah I kinda enjoyed S14’s recent Moulin Ru but the lip syncing (of not even their own vocals) irritated me that goes for AS3’s too.

I think the best part about the Madonna Rusical is the fact that you could know nothing about Madonna and actually feel like you were learning about her history, unlike the Cher one which was designed more for people who already know about her
Camden absolutely killed her performance and was a worthy winner. It was one of the more enjoyable Rusicals and the only thing that could've made the episode better was Bosco having a "it's just chocolate" moment.
I think it was so clever to merge Moulin Rouge and RuPaul songs in this most current Rusical! They all fit so well and the storyline had so many appropriate references to Moulin Rouge. I also think the group of four had more character than you give it credit for, especially since they are parodies of Maya, Pink, Lil’Kim, and Christina in Lady Marmalade. And, I think “Charisma”, “Uniqueness”, “Nerve”, and “Talent” fit those four singers so well! I think the one of the reasons Angeria and Jorgeous may have faded into the background because they also weren’t giving “Angeria as Maya” and “Jorgeous as Christina” as well as the other Queens did their characters/parodies. This is definitely my favorite Rusical. I only wish Drag Kings were cast instead of Leland and Leslie Jordan, but it was kinda neat to see involvement from the folks considered “BTS”.
The trump musical had so much potential to be the best! I think if they used more well known political figures it would be better, Unfortunately using more male characters could’ve made it more understandable. Like Mike pence with fishnets or in a rhinestone suit - something stupid but funny like that! I appreciate the wanting to use women because it is drag race but someone like Trump doesn’t have as many women ‘characters’ to use that aren’t ex-flings or relatives, a few more male characters to fill in the gap ( Obama? Maybe Putin? ) could’ve been much funnier. Obviously not the grease concept though, that was an automatic fail 😅

Oh wow, I completely forgot the pharmarusical was even a thing. I only remember the Cher rusical which wasn’t that great, but honestly had the potential to be just as awesome as the Madonna rusical. It had equal parts and the characters are recognizable. But having a bunch of non-singers sing live while doing intense choreo was basically a recipe to fail (like, most of the negative critiques could’ve been avoided had they recorded the vocals).
I really loathe it when the second episode is already the Rusical...especially if it's in a regular season (S7, S8, S10). It's like: too much is going on on my screen: sensory overload! Who is she again and which role does she play? I wouldn't say that you always have to wait 12 episodes to finally see a Rusical, haha, but having it in the middle of a season is clever! 10:04 Also: when will we ever get cutie-pie Andy Cohen as a real guest judge on RPDR?
I think one of the best things about this season's Rusical was the number of queens. Just seven queens, we know them all already, we can pay attention to them and they all fit on the stage! Those Rusicals with 10 queens + pit crew all packed on the stage and then Michelle saying "you faded out" of course she did it's 15 people dancing at the same time!!
I think having uneven parts is just part of the challenge tbh as long as they aren't assigned by production. Like at that point its up to the queen to take a risk with a big part or not. And the grouped roles are basically bait at this point or a doable job for queens who know theater isn't their strongsuit. Kind of how like with being a team leader it's basically an unspoken rule at this point that it's highly likely they'll either win or be in the bottom and it's a tried and true narrative structure for an episode

Honestly as someone that's not in the US the trump rusical was so alienating, like sometimes dragrace makes challenges that revolves around being American but an entire episode about politics and reporters? I understood almost to nothing, I knew some of the names but that was it
I think the lady marmalade quadro is already with its Own character because it's apparently referring the four divas on the track. So to see Jorgeous absolutely doing nothing like Xtina set me off because on the other hand Daya was totally give P!nk and Deja served lil kim

All these non elimination episodes are due to VH1 wanting more episodes per season. They ordered a set number of episodes and the producers have to deliver that exact amount. Hence all of the stretching out of the seasons we've seen lately. Going in to filming they know exactly how many non elimination episodes they are going to have to do in order to deliver what VH1 ordered.
I loved the herstory one when I first saw it as a solo clip on RUclips. I watched it so many times. When I actually saw it as a part of the episode and series as a whole I was so mad.

Popping in to say that Bitch Perfect is my favorite. The entire thing has such fun energy and music, and then Chi Chi did a cartwheel into a handstand as she lipsynced.
For me the Rusicals are only good if it's original, non RuPaul lyrics, and the girls are singing themselves (with exceptions to the celebrity impersonation Rusicals). Moulin Ru gave me nothing, the guest judges casting themselves in the Rusical was also kinda cringey? Madonna worked so well because it was parodying specific songs and the girls recorded their own take on the roles.

I know this is about the original franchise, but i love Under the Big Top from CDR. The groups did bad because of the choreo, but I think they were given a large enough part that they could've stood out. Plus we had some of the best performances of any rusical

Honestly I thought Bosco was just bad. Satine's part entirely depends on a specific presentation. I don't think she had to change her brows or anything but you need the combination of beauty and vulnerability, the romance of Satine that tied the story together and Bosco didn't really give me that. Camden would have probably killed it.
I was also so distracted by her top, the whole time I thought it was gonna tear away into a reveal. Why was it so cheap looking :(

I think the reason behind us being unsatisfied behind bosco’s performance is that she didn’t have dynamic exaggerated expressions every minute like lady camden’s mama z. This is theater essentially and its fundamental that you embody your character to thoroughly express them really well(even exaggeratedly) on stage so audiences could immediately recognize what kind of character you are. Especially if you’re a viewer like me who have no idea yet about moulin rouge. How will you hook me into getting into it? How will you sell me a character I’ve never heard before?
Bosco’s saltine was passable but she could have gone further with her expressions and the sneezing. It’s not a matter of changing eyebrows bcs as a viewer who hasn’t watched moulin rouge yet, that detail would have gone over my head tbh (altho i could understand if those who watched it wanted his eyebrows “unbosco-ed”). I got bored with how little change in expressions she had throughout even during the romantic part and she’s supposed to be THE main star.
Mama Z on the other hand….if you look closely with lady camden, she had exaggerated expressions together with her movements. Her jaw and eyebrows and eyes move and express every word she’s saying. Aside from her graceful movements which she also exaggerated, you could immediately tell what kind of character she is alongside with being entertained at her change of facial expressions. She hooked me in eventho i have no idea who the heck mama z is, she made me want to see for myself who this mama z character is in the original moulin rouge(if there is even one).
there needs to be a larger discussion abt the scripts having big girl roles. first of all, ‘fat’ isn’t a personality trait. also, big girls in the cast shouldn’t be pigeon holed bc of their size. also most importantly, why are we still treating fat ppl’s size as a punchline? is anyone laughing? am i trapped in an adam sandler movie?
still baffled by the critique for April that was something like “you didn’t have a big girl energy.” as though a) only big girls have that big personality kinda energy that they’re alluding to or b) all big girls have that kind of energy. i’m a fat person and i’m crazy shy lmfao i’d fail that role if i was just being myself.
If Katya had revealed into the little black "revenge" dress, it would have really elevated her performance. But other than that, they gave a crazy gymnast a shy character with absolutely no choreo and thought we wouldn't notice?

Shade the Rusical is still my absolute favourite. The good performances are really great and have depth, while the bad performances are so bad it's good again. I mean.. "wE aRE thE coMEdY QuEEnS"

I think it helps that the queens sang their own vocals in the Madonna and Shade rusicals. It really lets them showcase their personalities and gives them more control over their part.
i wish the producers and/or composers of the rusicals would just commit to them either being lipsync challenges or live singing challenges. i agree i prefer the live singing, and i’m very confused why they change the format every couple years or so. i guess they don’t bother doing live singing ones if there aren’t competitors who are known for singing? but you don’t have to be a good singer to at least learn how to hold a note on stage imo.
I absolutely LOVED this Rusical. I usually don't care that much about these episodes, but this was such a great one. I really thought it was well written and everyone did a great job. I'm tired of the non eliminations, but at the same time it made all sense to me for nobody to go home in this episode because all the girls did so good (and I didn't want Bosco to go home too), so I'm happy.
Madonna the Rusical is still the best. The queens got to choose the roles, and they recorded the vocals as well. All the parts are also well-written. Although in real life no musical is like that, where one character appears one at a time, in a competition setting it's the most fair, because the usual format does have parts almost always guaranteed to win
Another proof that's why seasons with even numbers had the best rusicals: Shade (S6), B*tch Perfect (s8), Cher (S10), Madonna (S12) and Moulin Ru (s14).
Also counts for Herstory of the World (AS2), Rats (uk2) and Under the Big Top (cdr2)
I'd argue the S9 rusical was top tier too, but you're generally correct!

Season 6's Shade Rusical literally was a mix of Fame, Dreamgirls and Cats.
The reason why Gigi won was because we did not expect her to slay since she said she wasn't a dancer. Jan didn't cop the win because we expected her to slay.. But both did really great!!

About the whole Rusical concept, there are of course exceptions to this, but I think generally the ones where the queens record their parts with their own voices tend to be better performances and perhaps can be more aptly called as a rusical? Like I would say Cher was mor of a rusical than the "pharmarusical" (even though it's in the name) in season 10. But of course there are also pretty bad ones to this type like the social media one, just as the opposite can be true like DRHolland season 1 rusical or AS2

I liked the music to PharmaRusical, it was catchy, but the thing about it is, it's a series of advertisement jingles for fake products stapled together (kind of like Social Media). There's no plot (unlike Shade, Moulin Ru, Madonna / Cher / Kardashian, Bitch Perfect, etc. at times the plots were very simple but they were something)
I love the PharmaRusical! I remember the songs and sing those from time to time 😂😂

The Kardashian rusical is still the best ever for me. From the 'I should've been blac chyna' to Alexis Michelle's iconic and win-worthy Kris Jenner to the genuinely catchy songs, it was so good. AS6, S8 and S14 were also undoubtedly legendary

I mean, the Lady Camden role had “Winner” written all over it. You don’t have the most lines and you don’t have to somehow magically carry the romance plot, and you don’t have to be the Essence of Charisma or whatever. I think Willow made the second-best choice as the absinthe fairy. That part felt like it was designed to be cut if they had done this challenge in an episode with fewer girls. (Makes you wonder, what unused Drag Race bit have we never seen before?)
If I had to guess locks for top four, I’d say Willow, Camden, and Angeria,
I think the fourth slot is Bosco’s, but Jorgeous and Daya are within reach. I just don’t know what Deja Skye’s specialty is. She can sew, but she’s not a look/fashion queen. She also hasn’t pushed in as a comedy queen or much of a dancer. Her win in snatch game was mostly by circumstance, not because we saw her do the world’s best snatch game.
one thing i think is interesting is the divide between rusicals that are completely lipsynced vs rusicals that are sung live. like when they’re impersonaling celebrities like in AS3 or AS6 it makes sense to lipsync to tracks that are made to sound like those celebrities, but then we have the Madonna and Cher rusicals where they’re expected to mimic the artists’ voices live. after S6 went so well i’m surprised they rarely do live vocals anymore; i kinda wish they did because otherwise the rusicals are just another lipsyncing challenge and since a decent amount of drag artists do sing or act live, i’d appreciate if the rusicals were all sung live. we get so much lipsyncing that it does get old after a bit, and singing live adds variety and shows off another skill set that i honestly think often gets overlooked on drag race.
also, S10 is so interesting because it did have two rusicals: pharmarusical and the Cher rusical. one was lipsynced with like 1000 people, one was sung live with like 7 or so queens. i’m curious about why production chose to have 2 rusicals in the same season, even if they did have completely different vibes and quality.
as for Rusicals.... I've never been a fan of this challenge because of the way it's judged. Feels like you've gotta outshine everyone else, even though the role itself doesn't necessarily have room for such a thing

Also I’m sorry if there lip syncing involved it’s not a real Rusical idc how good it is yeah I kinda enjoyed S14’s recent Moulin Ru but the lip syncing (of not even their own vocals) irritated me that goes for AS3’s too.
CDR2 is top tier drag race and the rusical is great!

I think the best part about the Madonna Rusical is the fact that you could know nothing about Madonna and actually feel like you were learning about her history, unlike the Cher one which was designed more for people who already know about her

It was one of the more enjoyable Rusicals and the only thing that could've made the episode better was Bosco having a "it's just chocolate" moment.
Wow no love for “Rats: The Rusical”, my personal favourite.
I think it was so clever to merge Moulin Rouge and RuPaul songs in this most current Rusical! They all fit so well and the storyline had so many appropriate references to Moulin Rouge.
I also think the group of four had more character than you give it credit for, especially since they are parodies of Maya, Pink, Lil’Kim, and Christina in Lady Marmalade. And, I think “Charisma”, “Uniqueness”, “Nerve”, and “Talent” fit those four singers so well! I think the one of the reasons Angeria and Jorgeous may have faded into the background because they also weren’t giving “Angeria as Maya” and “Jorgeous as Christina” as well as the other Queens did their characters/parodies.
This is definitely my favorite Rusical. I only wish Drag Kings were cast instead of Leland and Leslie Jordan, but it was kinda neat to see involvement from the folks considered “BTS”.

The trump musical had so much potential to be the best! I think if they used more well known political figures it would be better, Unfortunately using more male characters could’ve made it more understandable. Like Mike pence with fishnets or in a rhinestone suit - something stupid but funny like that! I appreciate the wanting to use women because it is drag race but someone like Trump doesn’t have as many women ‘characters’ to use that aren’t ex-flings or relatives, a few more male characters to fill in the gap ( Obama? Maybe Putin? ) could’ve been much funnier. Obviously not the grease concept though, that was an automatic fail 😅

Oh wow, I completely forgot the pharmarusical was even a thing. I only remember the Cher rusical which wasn’t that great, but honestly had the potential to be just as awesome as the Madonna rusical. It had equal parts and the characters are recognizable. But having a bunch of non-singers sing live while doing intense choreo was basically a recipe to fail (like, most of the negative critiques could’ve been avoided had they recorded the vocals).

I think one of the best things about this season's Rusical was the number of queens. Just seven queens, we know them all already, we can pay attention to them and they all fit on the stage! Those Rusicals with 10 queens + pit crew all packed on the stage and then Michelle saying "you faded out" of course she did it's 15 people dancing at the same time!!
I think having uneven parts is just part of the challenge tbh as long as they aren't assigned by production. Like at that point its up to the queen to take a risk with a big part or not. And the grouped roles are basically bait at this point or a doable job for queens who know theater isn't their strongsuit. Kind of how like with being a team leader it's basically an unspoken rule at this point that it's highly likely they'll either win or be in the bottom and it's a tried and true narrative structure for an episode

Honestly as someone that's not in the US the trump rusical was so alienating, like sometimes dragrace makes challenges that revolves around being American but an entire episode about politics and reporters? I understood almost to nothing, I knew some of the names but that was it

HARD DISSAGREE! Trump the rusical was soooo f*cking funny and smart, amazingly put together.
All these non elimination episodes are due to VH1 wanting more episodes per season. They ordered a set number of episodes and the producers have to deliver that exact amount. Hence all of the stretching out of the seasons we've seen lately. Going in to filming they know exactly how many non elimination episodes they are going to have to do in order to deliver what VH1 ordered.

I loved the herstory one when I first saw it as a solo clip on RUclips. I watched it so many times. When I actually saw it as a part of the episode and series as a whole I was so mad.

For me the Rusicals are only good if it's original, non RuPaul lyrics, and the girls are singing themselves (with exceptions to the celebrity impersonation Rusicals). Moulin Ru gave me nothing, the guest judges casting themselves in the Rusical was also kinda cringey? Madonna worked so well because it was parodying specific songs and the girls recorded their own take on the roles.
