I didn't get new shoes till my big toe or toes were poking out😢 they messed my feet up
This is such a good hack and probably better than what I do which is standing on them till they break in 😅
Wouldn‘t you have to seal off the shoe?
Because the water will expand towards where there is more space. That‘s why you can freeze water in an open glass, but not in a sealed bottle.
Nah I needed this when I was a kid, I got wide feet and shoes are narrow

I think the increase in volume of the ice won't push the insides of the shoe ( the material causes resistance) but the open part of the ziplock bag is where the ice will expand( open space= low resistance)
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. While it's technically possible, that it starts freezing from the open top, everything is way too loose and wiggley in thers anyways. Maybe a water balloon could work that way.
That's exactly what would happen.
"If your shoes are tight then size up, You need a finger space around the front of your foot when no weight is applied to allow for foot spread."- my podiatrist when i was 8 and had constant foot pain and it's made my life so much easier since I have wide feet😂
Edit: I'm 195cm and have a broad build (including my feet) so the finger width for me adds 4cm to my shoe width so I wear a size 14. Just so all the rude replies can realise I'm not dumb but I do have an abnormal foot shape😂

Water flows and expands from freezing in the path of least resistance... without sealing the bag, there's zero chance the ice forced the shoes at all.
No, actually water start freezing from the top and creates the seal

Why did I think this was going to be a "baby shoes, never worn" joke
Everyone keeps assuming that this is a replacement for a new pair of shoes when the kid grows out of them but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be used to help break in the shoes when they’re new, so the little kid doesn’t have to do it and hurt their feet as much
I thought the same thing especially since kids will get upset and not want to wear them if it’s tight they don’t understand you’re gotta keep wearing them for them to become comfortable so this would be a great hack for that
no, everyone is disgusted about the shoes in the freezer on top of the food. Really do not care about replacing old shoes or not.
You should never have to break in shoes. They either fit or they don’t. If they’re uncomfortable they’re not a good pair for you.

I work with preschoolers. Kids grow out of their shoes while you watch them. But parents often but them too small.. additionally , shoe manufacturers often design kids' shoes out of proportion to kids' feet. All of these factors show why it's hard to keep kids in properly fitting shoes.
tru. My parent always bought shoes a bit bigger, so I grew into them. Shoes lasted a good life before I outgrew them and they wore out
True. My son has fat feet so finding shoes wide enough for him is tough.
@@naturalista123 Some brands specialize in making wider shoes for wide feet; Nike and New Balance are two that come to mind when it comes to shoe brands that are comfy for wide feet. Lol the awkward blank at the end
My mom did this to all my penny loafers that were brand new before the year started. She had me wear them cold so that they would warm. And they would form to my feet. And they would be the most comfortable shoe I ever owned during that entire year
Bro I thought that was gonna be some memorial of the kid growing up 💀
Lol my mom just puts tea towels in my shoes and leaves them there for a couple of days
Pretty sure most of the water expansion will come from the top since it’s open to atmosphere. When water freezes all expansion travels through the path of least resistance.
Don't put shoes in the freezer people! The internet is flawed.
The way she did it is wrong, you need to seal the water in. Water expands as it freezes, thus expanding the shoe. If it's been outgrown, it can be an easy way to get another little bit of time. I had work boots that one was defective, couldn't return them, but one was just too tight on my toes. Doing this helped me last until I could get new boots 😎

The definition of keeping a pair on ice😂
It expands the VOLUME!
Not the area.
I mean if the volume is increasing the area is as well
Yeah, it expands in the direction with the least amount of resistance i.e out the opening in the bag
"Area" doesn't have to mean mathematical area. It can also mean a specified space or location. As in "the area inside the shoe".
The MASS doesnt increase. The volume does

Girl really loves the idea of Reduce Reuse Recycle
After years of watching weird life hack clips online, I thought the top video was saying that the kid could replace their socks with ziploc bags. 😭
I figured she was doing it to kill any bacteria or yeast or mold that might be on a used pair of child shoes. People often resell baby shoes and if you happen to buy them it's a lot cheaper for something that's only going to fit for maybe a couple of months but there is always a risk of cooties.
1. Put in the sun, old dairy maids sterilized their cleaned tools in the sun it works, 2. Any "cooties" will be dead within 2wks anyway
Microbes won’t die by freezing. They just turn inactive (almost, not 100%) until defrost.
@@The12th_ right! Lysol is quicker, more effective and potentially less messy for killing germs.
10% max expansion of the total volume, all directed to the open hole atop the shoe. She won't change any at all. Much better to fill the bags with really hot water, then quickly remove bags and use a large spoon to stretch any pliable rubber/plastic. Large spoons - the answer to most childhood issues.

If i put shoes in fridge my indian mothers flying chappal will come after me at speed of 10km per sec....😂
This seems like a great idea for a kid’s first pair, when their feet are still thick and squishy.
My wife and I found a shoe store specializing in toddlers and adolescents shoes. The owner took the time to explain the importance of the flexibility and proper support of our child's footwear needs. After purchasing my first son's pair of walking shoes from her store, I followed up with some research. I found that she was 100% correct with her explanations. Her store was our "go to" shoe store for both my kids for many years. You gotta love those mom and pop stores.
I love the way she speakssss its so calming 😌
It only works if the material is true leather. Since most shows are made from polyester the shoes are inflexible and it won't work.
I think it’s great for breaking in new shoes! I wouldn’t put it flat on top of food, I’d wrap it in clingfilm or in a baggie so it’s away from food but it’s a great hack!
Moms are so entertaining
Information that I'll never need to know but I still watched the whole thing
I don't think anyone was saying this is a replacement for new shoes y'all, I think this is a good way for parents that may be struggling to keep shoes wearable until they can afford new ones. Not saying that parent is struggling but this may be some good advice for parents that are.
Good to do with new ones too, it breaks the shoe in without dealing with tantrums
or if you just need a few more months or weeks out of the shoe until the next sale or so you can wait until back to school season so you kid can feel like they got new shoes for the school year just like everyone else :)
It's a neat idea, until the bag starts leaking, the water soaks into the material of your shoes and expands while freezing, permanently ruining the shoes and making them fall apart like, I don't know, a house of cards stuck together with saliva in a wind tunnel.
That's ignoring the fact that a lot of foam/rubber and freezing temperatures do not mix, have you ever left a sponge in the freezer before?
Thing comes out as brittle as a communion wafer, I don't want my shoes to blow away like dust in the wind.
Oh, and the lady left the bag open, that's an awfully big path of least resistance, those shoes are not going to expand one iota.
Why… why does every comment think “path of least resistance” refers to freezing?
Also why would the bag start leaking??
My brothers have the bad habit of leaving plastic pitchers in the freezer halfway full of water without the lid on, try it yourself, the top freezes and seals the water, then all the rest of the water freezes and the pressure causes the plastic at the bottom to swell and, sometimes, break.
@@DeathnoteBB because it does...
I used this because all kid shoes are very flat. My daughter has more vertical height across her mid foot but I couldn't go up a size and a half because then the length and ankle sizing would be all wrong. Enter using the freezing water to stretch the mid foot section by packing the toes with pie weights, then the water bag in the mid foot, and finally a wood block to fill the end. This forced the water to mostly expand in the mid foot section.
Idk why but was such a calming video compared to my FYP
OK but ew maybe dont put the shoes where the food is 😨😨
The food is all sealed in containers in the freezer.
For leather shoes or boots soak them in a warm(not hot!) water until they are wet, than walk one mile in them. This helps brake them in.
Repeat if necessary
If a particular spot is causing issues apply a coat of neasfoot oil(olive oil works too) on the inside of your footwear, let it dry, then wear it. Do not use too much, it will change the color of leather if you use too much.

" MUM WHYS MY SHOES SO COLD?"
Fun fact, freezing things make it smaller but heating things expands it
the expansion would just swell upwards since pressure can be relieved that way.
This is actually pretty smart
I learnt that water molecules contract when condensed and expand when boiled/ heated
I think I missed the part in school where they said that water only freezes horizontally.
Not me thinking they were making feet cubes
Someone didn't do good in science class. While water does expand when frozen, it will expand towards the path of least resistance unless those bags are sealed and something put on top to keep the water from pushing up.
I thought it was to make sure no spiders or something got in the shoe while she wasn't wearing them
I swear humans find the most damn innovative ways to save money
OH.. MY GOD. I thought she was ripping the shoes 💀
It's called wearing a show in so it eventually shapes to the foot and supports it properly. You have to wear the shoe to do that, and it has to start off a little tight else won't deform to foot. So, yeah.
I would do this for my high heels that were just slightly too tight, works perfectly without damaging. I would close the bags though, and tilt my shoes forward.
The shoes didn't even expand, she pulled them apart to make them look like it worked. She didn't need to put them in the freezer if she was just gonna pull them apart anyway
Ngl I thought she was making ice packs in the shape of a foot lol
My mom would do this for me when I was 4. 20 years later, I’m still wearing the same shoes since I kept increasing the size in the freezer.
The ice barely expands in that quantity unless you pressurize the water so it completely fills the cavity it most likely wont do much. But it will kill bacteria, fungus, odors, etc
