Naruto loves ramen and he's named after an ingredient in ramen.
menma is mine
bruh now that's a reference
Narutomaki, the swirly thing in udon.
sanji was gonna be named Naruto, because he's a chef with a swirly, Naruto-like eyebrow, but the Naruto manga was just coming out so now it's sanji
Naaaah
If it's helpful, the tips actually start at 2:18
Thanks
Wanna like but 69

For my story, I had named two of my characters LONG BEFORE I knew what their meanings were. One was named Nicholas and the other was named Miyako. I went about their names not knowing a thing until I did some research about it. A nickname of Nicholas, Nico, in Japanese would mean "sunlight" or "daylight" while a definition of Miyako can mean "beautiful" "night" "child"
This ended up fitting so well with the roles I had planned for the characters and how they would start as opposites and then become partners, they're metaphorically the sun and moon!
nico does not mean at all sunlight it's Taiyōkō-sen
nico = "nikko", its not literal, but sort of a joke-type/nickname-type thing
hum okay
Lee Minchung Sounds like a interesting comedy piece.
StalkerZHS For some reason I just come up with random Names like Minkaloo and Sounly XD I need some serious help with life! I think I. Just gonna Start using names from other animes or something lol like Sakura :D
TOBI TO OBITO! guys! Even naruto shippuden does this :) Hope yaw liked the vid.
This is so helpful! I like drawing and customizing toys, and I make series with the customized figures. It's really hard for me to give them names, so thanks soooooo much!!!
The full name is Tom Marvollo Riddle
so if he always give tips, should I call him Nips?
can you do guide on how to draw speed image, like say a character slashing his sword so fast there a multiple slash effect can be seen at the same time
Is creating apple black your full time job.
I was kind of expecting that J C would refer to John Cena, but that will of course go unseen.
HOLY COW, John Cena is probably a Jesus reference too, makes sense..lol *mind blown
+Whyt Manga Haha might be. Late but thanks for reacting ^-^
@@WhytMangaOdunze What about John Coffey from The Green Mile?
In naruto the little things with pink in the ramen is called narutomaki and Kishimoto probably just thought of uzu in front of maki because he went to a ramen shop near his college called ichiraku ramen and they had the narutomaki in it so in the manga and anime naruto is named after that in the ramen and his favorite food is ramen
uzumaki is translated literally to spiral
actually jiraiya thought f the name when he was eating ramen duh.
@@kennethdiasnogueira6105 that’s the reference of the author naming Naruto that’s crazy and smart tbh
@@reborngreatnesss5712 yeah I know I was joking around hahaha.
Uzumaki means swirl bruv
If I ever, ever, EVER win at the lottery, I would finance an anime of your manga asap!
OMG THANKS FOR THE LIKE! :D
Haha, that may never happen...
@@max_ishere ????
@@AemirDillard he means that he probably won't win the lottery
@@mistadude
And that it’s hard to make anime too, even if a company started making one it might take years.
How I name my characters:
Doodle on my keypad and take whatever sounds distinct and cool.
Fr 😂
I have always thought of having a main character Jace and his best friend Zero as the "sidekick". The main antagonist would be Nox. I always like this phrase for his death magic. "Death Nox on your door"
I agree with this guy ^
Dude 200 IQ over here good job
I am making a comic, and one of my characters has the name zero, but spelled "Xiro". I like the letter X, Lol.
If I Made A Manga The Strongest Character In It Would BE
Bob
Sebas amazing name
I'd read it
More like Joe
Is it weird i thought of mob when i read bob?? (I mean mob psycho
Simplest characters are always the strongest
The 3rd tip is used quite often in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure due to the plethora of musical references in the series
Alex Helms it just works
Lol I literally did that before discovering Jojo, a reason why I like the manga so much
BITES ZA DUST-O!
Thomas Marvolo Riddle = I am lord Voldemort
....yes
+Mino SHA! (sound effect) I AM LORD VOLDEMORT!
Do you understand how Anagram works?
lol
It's not Thomas, it's just Tom...
My main character is a complete bad ass, the next Bruce lee etc. His name is Riley Reid
looool
10/10
thats a porn stars name lol
...
Cr1tikal is that you?
I have about close to 200 characters drawn with all pretty unique names. Starts getting hard to think of something newer and different that's not common or doesn't sound like to much like other characters. Good vid!!
Lol I have around 60 but it's hard not to make more because it's really fun
I got 65. And keep pushing bro
I had a story idea in mind where characters need to earn each letter in their name by winning battles or doing something significant to the story, so alot of beginners have names like "B" and "Y"
above that the people have names like "Zu", "Ji", "Ra", above that, "Jac", "Cal"
Other people on a much higher level are named Prince-King-J (knowing that it can take a long time to get all the letters, this would be telling the reader that this person most likely was a prince and is now a king)
other champion character could have decided on a name already, but had to keep fighting much longer than expected so they are called "Moneyyyyyy" or something funny like "Kabutotototot"
That sounds rlly cool and unique
Thats a really cool concept. Have you started working on the story or have you given up on it? Sounds like an interesting read.
@@bonerpants7203 thanks alot, I've Given up on it for the most part. I collect these kinds of ideas, maybe they come in hand someday =)
@@ChaosTool93 Well if you ever do decide to continue with the story, i hope you'll remember me and let me read it.
um can i borrow?
I have my characters all thought out. I have for years. Personality and everything but I still don't have any names
Davon Stevens names are the hardest
Eccus M. = succ me.
lmaooo
Dead
Bruh
In the french version of Harry Potter it's Tom Elvis Riddle.
There's a guy named Cesaro in my manga, and as the story goes, he was raised by wolves. He's a dog whisperer.
Elsweyr WHAT THE FUCK!!!😰
LMAO
What's ur manga called??
Sometimes sticking to your original names, that came out of nowhere, can have fun results. As I was planning one of my stories, I randomly gave my MC "Nicora" as a surname. I did a bit of research and in Japanese, "niko" means "daylight" and Ra is the Egyptian sun god so it worked out, funny enough.
Because of all the sun references, I made her family symbol mainly a sun, though I'm trying to make the design interesting, and gave her father golden eyes. Little things like that.
1. Easter eggs
2. Anagrams
3. Tribute or Reference
4. Sound
5. Feel it out, keep track of eras
6. Naming sites? Look em up
7. Create fictional names in groups
8. Alter already existing names of people or things to form fictional names
9. Spelling alteration and spell according to pronunciation
10. Memorable, syllable count
11. Research the names you consider
12. Know the meanings of names but don't always stress much over it
13. Just like naming your pet or kids
14. Names not as important as story
15. Name of the character could also be name of series
16. No rule, break the rules if you want, mix and match the tips etc.
Thank you.
I named my main protagonist Dek'hed. Really short ninja gnome with a big head and a bowl haircut.
Best name ever for a villian
@FixSomeSoaps No no, I thought the same thing 😂
Adding a characters name to a title is a good tip. On another level look at "JoJo" adding a whole set of characters to the title😱
I named my character Akuma Tatsuda. I picked the first name for his back story is that his parents are street fighter gamers & liked the character akuma.
5:50 Tom Marvolo Riddle: I am Lord Voldemort
btw, it's Potterheads, not Pothead, but nice try :)
thank you like its not Pothead its Potterheads
"Porn stars! Bear with me here" :DD hahahah!
Bare*
I was at that part when I read this, lmao!
@@gon7841 Gon this isn't a spelling bee
I try to keep my main characters names super simple so that readers dont ever forget it. Ive got a main character thats a scarecrow/frankenstein’s monster-like dude named Rags.
I like all your videos and character tips because they help me create my own characters, and help me become a better artist and a cartoonist, so thank you, Whyt. Keep doing what your doing that inspires others
I'll make a tribute character to Harambe and Rick Harrison. Dat Boi too.
#Dicks out
StigmataSasha rick harambe mate
Rick Haramboi
"Call signs" are good character tropes in military fiction and military science fiction particularly in pilot culture. The reimagine of Battlestar Galactica played on this very well, e.g. Lee Adama used the call sign Apollo (playing on the original series) and Kara Thrace was known as "Starbuck" -and although they used their rank and actual name in formal conversation with superior officers, amongst their peers in the squadron they were known as their call sign as a means of camaraderie and esprit de corps. When I reimagined Operation Atlantia that I created in the 70's, I used a lot of that.
Like for example my main character Ichiro is named after his father Hiro. AND Ichiro means first born son
Me and a very good friend of mine have been trying to create a comic book/manga for 3 years now. we are still in school at the moment but we have still been working as hard as we can on creating stories and characters and I gotta say your videos help me alot. I'm the writer and my friends the artist and our current story idea is the one we are the most attached to at the moment. ur videos rock bruh keep up the good work XD
So, 2 years have passed. Any progress?
4 years,any progress?
4 years anything new ?
Me and My friend are too good luck
6y hope it’s going good mate
This was made 3 years ago but like can I just say thank youuu!!!
the longer vids are always more interesting.. at least for me they are. it's why I subscribed in the first place.
Good work sir! 👍
Great advice. For every method you mentioned that I knew you included one I didn't! Love the art style and can't wait to get immersed in your world:)
I think I use tip 9 a lot, especially for surnames or names of the powers, they usually sound very cool and help people prepare to what they're gonna see or guess some infos about a character
Your videos are extremely helpful. I used to draw comics as a kid and through high school but haven't drawn in a few years 😓 I decided to try and work on trying to finish a story before drawing it but then got frustrated and just fell out of all of it. Recently I've been trying to get back into it bc regardless of not drawing or actually writing in about a yr I still had a shit ton of story ideas that constantly float around in my head. Like to the point that I need to write them down or draw them out. At this point I am going back to the basics of drawing and am trying to finish a story so I can actually start a manga. Love your videos and your work :)
7:55 Conan Edogawa is a good example of this, being named after two real-world authors, being Conan Doyle and Edogawa Ranpo (Both of their works also getting referenced many times throughout the Detective Conan series.)
I like naming my characters by mixing anime easter eggs with words that relate to the character themselves. For example, my protagonist's name is Dok Dovebar. Doves represent peace, which is what Dok wants. It also contrasts with the main antagonist, Marina Hawkorder, foreshadowing the fact that Marina is his grandmother. The rest of his name is a ref to DBZ character Bardock. Another name that I came up with is Rave Notehand, the first name being a reference to the song Rave by Dark, while his last name is a reference to Berserk and based on the fact that he likes taking notes.
man... tell me the secret to do a manga haveing a 10 hours per day job....
i really want to bring my fiction to others but my job takes all my time.
by the way... all this you are doing is great, bro
4:04 “that i have heared”
He is trying ti hide that he was one all along
Very helpful thanks man
To me Sano kinda sounds like the Spanish word "Sana" which means to " To heal" or just being healthy in general. Correct me if I'm way off.
You are pretty spot on.
Speaking of Easter eggs, I once wrote a story where characters from completely different nations with different personalities all had names that meant the same basic thing: wisdom/intelligence. I got a huge variety of awesome-sounding names from doing that.
Thank you Whyt Manga. Love your videos. I am not making a Manga but your art tips are great.
I really like Ryuzaki's design. It reminds me of Raimon Taro from Eyeshield 21.
Great video. I'm writting a little story and this help me a lot with the names of my characters. Thank you.
Currently working on my first OC design that i had in my head for years now. I named him Samuel Rider, not very Japanese-ish even tho its gonna be more of a Japanese comic/manga than a regular comic. But i like it alot.
Tom Marvolo Riddle was played by Christian Coulson in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and the anagram was I Am Lord Voldemort.
I had a character that didn't have a name for a while, but when I finally gave him a name, his vibe was stronger and it made him more intimidating. The meaning of the name added more impact than the name itself.
lol😅 4:03 "they name themselves... I've I've heard"
Kazuma It's a reference to summer wars one of my favorite anime movies. And it's meaning is the reason why i named him kazuma.
This video helped a lot cause I’m having trouble naming my villain
This video was awesome!!
Hope one day I'll have drawing skills like you
I named my pokemon OC Jim because he is a gym leader....
Great video as always
One of my stories is about gardening. The characters are named after flowers.
cool, forgot that I can rearrange name letters, thanks for reminding me through this video XD
like, I can just name a character Toruna which can be said to be made from Naruto :P
Tom Marvolo Riddle. And Pot-head would be awesome XD
There was one character's name , that I was not comfortable with. This really helps me thank you
Very nice... thanks for this... I'm an aspiring mangaka myself and, as far as names go, I sometimes just go with my gut... use words for names (sometimes not even English names)... and sometimes I see/hear words/names/typos and, if I like it and think it could be a name, I write it down... it's not a hit list... it's just a list of names, I swear... THANKS AGAIN!
Love your work what u inspire me
Tom Marvolo Riddle..........I used to be OBSESSED with the Harry Potter series.......but I still remember all my resaearch....
I did not even notice that 3 syllable thing. And that last tool you used - Pizza. 😂
(One) of my characters (who I am drawing right now) Is able to summon a magic sword of darkness, so I named her Pandora. For hopefully obvious reasons.
I think I find u more helpful than mark Crilly since u have more of a Shonen style so u focus on action and stuff. I hope ur successful... then u can be the first African mangaka😉 (from Ghana btw)
The main villain of my story is called ''Judo van Moord'' I decided on Judo because it is short but still has a an intimidating vibe to it, and shorter names sound better when placed after titles, like ''Lord Judo''. Van was added there because he is a noble (although a somewhat poor one) and thus the ''van'' would indicate that the name that comes after would be a place name or the name of a noble house. Moord is simply the Dutch word for murder, which makes sense with both his personality and nationality.
Luke van Kleef soooo... An intimidating ex-royal psychopath? Just a shot in the dark
Behind the name is a website that has a name generator where you can generate random names. The reason why I recommend it is the fact that they show you the meaning and you can filter names based on different languages. Need a name for a character that’s Russian? Select Russian. They have practically every language that is in common use and even different sections like fantasy names (subsection) or biblical names even.
Alright, I already have three characters
owT
eerhT
ruoF
Best names are those that mean something in a different language like casca from berserk, vaal hazak from monster hunter etc
I personally like naming my characters either with something that has to do with Gaulish or Nordic mythology, or after something from the show Charmed (the one from the late 90s to early 2000s). Or I base my characters off of existing concepts such as a specific demon and don't have to come up with a name (I do come up with nicknames though). My two main comics encompass these very closely. But I also add Easter eggs for myself by always naming certain background characters the same. A doughnut shop owner is always named Joe, death personified will always be named Tom and old white mentor characters will have the surname Berrycloth. None of these will ever be more than minor characters of course, but I like to include them and have done it in fanfictions.
Nice I needed this
I'm gonna make a character called JJ
Jamless Jimin
JIMIN !!!!!!!!!!!!
King JJ from Yuri on Ice...? XD lol jk
aRMy?
I thought youre going To put jojo reference but turn out,
its Bangtan reference fhdhsj niceee i totally get thundercross split attack there shoot,
Nice one
Comic/Manga well said :)
One of the main characters in my werewolf novel is called Gage. His brother, the second protagonist, is named Rex
I cant wait for your manga to become a anime if that is one of your goals but that would be AMAZING i can imagine it. I as well am making a manga currently and your videos helped me improve very quickly
not to rain on your parade but there's no way this cam become a anime
Maybe it wouldn't but it definitely can become one, not gonna argue with you at all, just gonna remember your comment.
Whatever he says i know your manga could become one if you really wanted it to be
Good luck my friend
3:57 did not expect that example 😂
You are so inspiring i wish i was you!
Meziu lets not be creepy with this
@@anime-lxgamer2986 ?
In my military space opera, one of the squadron leaders is from a race called "Kephradokins", whose formal name is Kephra Aya and goes by the call sign "Keph"
4:32 was my face when he started mentioning IT.
I take a meaning and see a name in different countries that have the meaning
Like how uzumaki means swirl like the stuff in the ramen BTW rasen means spiral like the rasengan because its spiraling chakra.also menma is also an ingredient in udon and ramen like menma namikaze
Is creating Apple Black your full time Job?
It's nice to have slight subtleties in a character's name, i.e Tamashii means "soul" in Japanese and Sano is seen as the Trinity, the father, the son and the holy ghost. I have a quick question: Was the fact that Floureene was born before Neon a reference to Flourine being before Neon in the periodic table?
Apple black sounds super cool in Spanish . Some character could say it like that cuts its awsome
I name my characters after objects
E.g.
Mannaquin (Mallack Quin)
Jack O Lantern (Jack O'Lanter)
Bottle (Boa Ottle)
Their abilities work the same but wont go into detail considering nobody is here lol
Nice nah man. I name my characters after industries or music celebrities. I.e. the main antagonist Max Jackson is named after Samuel L Jackson and Max Webster, a Canadian band
@@lumeanoastra1252 oooh I like that
Would you be able to do a weapon design vid? Maybe different videos for different types of weapons such as Guns , Medieval , Asain , Fantasy ya know?
wuts an asain? assassin?
+Mohd Adam Meant perhaps Asian weaponry.
I have been writing and illustrating my own story for more than three years now, my main character is Adelaïde 'adele' Himitsu, which means secret in japanese. The point was that her entre existance is a secret and that she has been kept that all her life. Mu story is called 'Memory of a Kingdom', where adele and Kazuma try to regain her memory that she lost while traveling around the kingdom in question
My current idea for the protagonist is oblivion, which is the name of his grandfather and his city, which was named after his grandpa, his nickname is oblo
I named my character Scarlett because she has a red eye, and her “sister” Glacé(glass) because she has Ice powers and glacé is ice in French
There's one character I have where he's the goodie-two-shoes, traditional superhero that always plays by the book and never does anything illegal or controversial, so I decided to give him a name straight out of the Marvel/Stan Lee formula;
Ben Bradley. Matching letters, 3 syllables, and completely interchangeable/generic.
how to draw characters clothes im working on a comic need help with clothing ideas
Alexander Washington just do your Favorite Clothes Reference and try to make it as your own by add something unique
Pinterest lol
Same
Nice tip!!! By the way I’m also planning to make my own manga in the near future and I plan to have and name all my characters after guns, weapon manufacturers, gun designers, tanks, etc!!! To me yeah..it’s kind of fun to name your characters how u feel or want them to be!!! Problem is I might be facing copyright issues and I’m aware of that which I might change the name a bit but keeping the pronunciation the same. I got my experience and idea of naming characters from a popular manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure where Hirohiko Araki named his characters after music, albums, and bands and I admire and take this concept in a way to name a character after something giving viewers to understand the joke or reference of a certain character!!! Anyway all my characters will share similarities in JoJo art style and the manliness which I admire and enjoy drawing cuz I think it looks badass and cool!!!
Also it’s classical!!!!!
I thought ukog is a nice name flip it and find the main character of my favorite anime
LMAO
I already use Easter eggs in names.
The protagonists last name is Ritsuka (Given reference)
There’s an assassin with white hair (hunter hunter reference)
My bro, more confidence and be concise. You are amazing and clearly have done your homework. By the way I love your video style of voicing over your drawing. It's quite relaxing and stimulates the imagination.
Thank you.
you deserve more subs dude
one cool thing I like to do is (in case your story is in japanese) search for kanjis of the vibe/characteristics you want to give your character and play with the combinations of the readings
"Even damn textbooks" I died at this.
And I would be "Laika Train"
