The KONA and NIRO are not local-trips-only cars at all. I drive mine 1100 miles up and down the interstate from southen-most KY to Key West, the range is greatly understated by the EPA ( I get over 300 miles between charges in Eco mode in my Niro) and it has plenty of acceleration and runs quietly at interstate speeds

"if you get to the right Electrify America Charger".... what you should have said is, "If you get to an Electrify America Charger that actually works". I think we all know how horrible Electric America network is. They don't do preventative maintenance, they don't fix broken chargers, 3 by my house have been down for nearly a year now! If you need to charge outside your home, right now, Tesla is your best option.
