This is my go to product. I've been using this product for 6 years now. I use the bottle that attaches to the hose. I spray the yard and with in 2 weeks, the weeds are history.
Do you use a surfactant, like baby shampoo, mixed in or applied before to help the Weed B Gon stick to the leaves? I've been thinking about doing that.
This stuff works great. I used it last year and going into year 2 I barely have any weeds now. I reapplied it today, but this stuff has worked far greater than Scott's.
Once the crab grass gets that big and that dense you basically have to chalk it up as a loss until next season when you can get down some preemergent. When you kill fully mature crab grass it just turns brown and then is brown the whole rest of the year.
Ortho Nutsedge killer works great too. Sprayed and 1 week it was DEAD. Just sprayed 3 bottles of Ortho weed be gone on newly germinated crabgrass and it seems to be working on crabgrass, oxalis, clover and creeping charlie. Kinda browning some Dallas grass but I don't think it is gonna kill it. I usually use concentrate but I have a half acre.
I think crab grass "control" means it slows it's growth down. So if I'm not mistaken you need to apply it when they are starting to come up to allow the desirable grasses to get ahead an choke it off.
With heavier weed areas, I spray twice, 1 week apart. Once under control, I spot spray with a 16 ounce hand spray bottle. I use the concentrate only. I also have a Solo 4 gallon backpack sprayer.
Quinclorac with a Surfacant is the best crabgrass killer. Then in the spring, you MUST apply a pre-emergent like Scotts Spring Crabgrass Pre-emergent granuals to kill off any seeds before they have a chance to sprout.
I've been in your shoes, spent a lot of money and was like pissing in the wind. You need to just leave it and start in the fall. New Seed, Aerate, then apply your pre-emergent for crabgrass in the early spring even before they say to prevent the crabgrass from coming up. Oh and lots of Milorganite. Thats what I did, and although I have weeds, I do not have any crabgrass and plenty of fescue. Working on the clover and some other weeds now with what you just used.
Just a word of caution: What you called "crabgrass" look more like goose grass. To kill crabgrass you need a pre-emergent germination blocker with Dythyoper or similar chemical and apply it about the time the forsythia blooms and way before lilacs budd. I have been doing this for years and I have a weed free lawn.
It has been five days and the weed in my lawn looks healthier and greener than before applying ortho weed b-gone. For crabgrass use Tenacity it is expensive but it works like magic.
@@transformer889 Not true. You need to use the clover killer, Trycloyr (which is not in regular week b gon). It destroys clover..... Available right in Lowes and Home Depot....
They have web b gon you can hook up to the water hose, works very good, also before you use that weed killer, cut grass with the lowest setting on your lawnmower that way you get the most out of the weed killer, easier to kill a half inch weed than a 2 inch weed, so cutting the grass on the lowest setting on your lawnmower before you lay down your weed killer helps a lot.
Yeah most definitely don't scalp the lawn before spraying. You will damage the good grass. Might as well use a non selective like glyphosate if your gonna do that
Murk is right here. These herbicides need to land on the leaf surface and be absorbed. Scalping the weeds removes surface area for the herbicide to work.
I cant tell if the small ones are wild violets or creeping charlie but those weeds are tough. If you add a sticking agent it is way more effective. As you stayed, hitting crabgrass before mature stage should kill it out.
Most of my yard was clover, I used a Gordon's product weed and feed it dried them up where you could run your foot over the top of it and it turned to dust...good stuff...I'm having a tougher time with the crab grass, and think they are dollar weeds but I'm no expert...
You can reapply after 3 weeks, the first round of injury is a good sign that the second application will finish the job. These are good results from your basic 3 way. Also, consider adding dish soap to help stick the spray to the leaves.
Thanks for infos. Ortho is the best. Geez pesky flies have bothered me so I used Ortho bug b gone water spray today. 👍🏻 Yea I also have Bermuda grasses too. Yes it get brown on October through winter season until February. Ohh those grasses fast growing on spring until October mows like twice a week. Not once to mow on winter season, doesn’t grow very much which is not much work. Be glad you like Bermuda grasses. Lol 👍🏻 😎
It will take more than a week, many people think that it doesn't work because it doesn't get everything within one week. Several of them are going to take up to four and five weeks. But one little trick. Can also do, add a little bit of dish detergent! This will allow the chemical to stick to the grass longer. There is other chemicals that will do this that you can purchase that cost more, but everybody has some dish detergent under their sink I'm sure.
Pre-emerge pre-emerge pre-emerge! I appreciate that you asked for an expert to leave a comment. Weed killer is a lot like poor videos; more is not better.
I soak the leaves. Fine mist makes more droplets. Within 24 hrs they looked bad and 2-3 days later they shriveled to the point that you can't really find them. I overseeded and have Scotts Green Max for fertilizer. This way the dark spots don't really show. Dark spots from clusters of weeds you killed or if you soak the grass it can develop dark spots from the Weed B-Gon Max. My grass is so dense from the overseeding (2 x in the last 2 months) dethatching and aerating. Now I'm going to hit it with starter fertilizer and mow high. The weeds that try to come to my lawn will not be able to germinate because their seeds cannot touch soil and nay that try to make a comeback will have no sunlight. The creeping fescue will fill any patches.
I just bought two gallons of WBG concentrate because I prefer to fill my 32 gallon liquid broadcaster and pull the tank across my lawn behind my lawn tractor. It's bad enough I use a granular fertilizer spreader walk-behind. I pull the tank for the liquid concentrate pesticide also. Fun times..... You're making me tired.....
Not so bad to have your situation when I started with 90 x 80 of ivy. It’s a back breaker! Your sprayer instructions say (if at the fill line. You’re over filled) you can pump no more than 10-15 times before spraying.
OK...The weeds get wilted, how soon can I reseed the lawn? Do I have to dig up the dead or sick weeds first? Thank you for taking the time to make the video. New subscriber.
My experience with it has been OK, but it takes several applications. Some of my neighbors don't seem to care what their lawns look like as long as they're green so thier weed seeds blow onto my lawn and I have to re-apply as part of the regular maintenance. I also use a per-emergence early in the season.
My experience with WBG is that it acts like a fertilizer for crab grass and skeleton weed. In the past, I've had some success with a Spetracide weed killer. WBG doesn't seem to be working all too well. Just one man's experience. BTW, I have the same pump sprayer as you - I like it a lot. Cheers.
Specicide does make the product Weed Stop in concentrate on sale now at lowes for $1.76 today 9/25/19 bought plenty bottles of it to treat my client lawns also, call there before you go to see if it still available.
I could be wrong but I think that’s actually goose grass. Crabgrass grows snug to the ground, not vertically like what you showed. I’m not 100%, so don’t rip me if I’m wrong.
One house that I owned quite a while ago was in a neighborhood that was a haven for dandelions. The yards were full of them. I used Weed B Gon about 2 or 3 times a year in my yard and I didn't have a single weed while the neighbor's yard looked like a showcase for dandelions. The house after that I had a thistle problem. I just dug those up as weed killer didn't seem to work on them. The house after that was pretty much weed-free but it was in the middle of nowhere. My current house has a minor dandelion issue, moderate clover issue, and a moderate crabgrass issue. So far the crabgrass control from Scotts didn't work. I just fertilized so I have to wait about 30 days before I can use the Weed B Gon. But I'm pretty confident that it will work.
@Suburban Millenial. The best time to use stuff like this is early spring before weeds germinate. Thats “pre-emergent” everyone mentions. Many off the shelf brands carry hose end style bottles that you can just hook up your hose and go. They work really well if you get it down early. Easier than using a sprayer. Sprayers are for spot spraying, not a situation like you have going on.
So what if there is no winter, like where I am in California? Grass never dies, including crabgrass, so i will never get to use the pre emergent. I tried literally dousing a sample section my lawn with ortho weed b gon.... almost zero effect on crabgrass. And dandelions for that matter....not sure, how or even if, I can really get rid of crabgrass.
Did you also spray it on sections that had good lawn? For example: spraying it on mixed areas. Im concerned it'll kill both the good with the bad. Thanks!
For my crabgrass I literally manually pulled it out from the roots. Why? I used the same products no success on it. I used premix weed be gone and still nothing 🤬😢🤦🏽♀️. I know there’s better products but manually pulling worked for me.
Best solution for killing weeds? Thick, dense grass! Mow your grass high! 3-3.5”. It will look so much better. If you start a “weed war” in late summer, then just wait until September and kill the weeds to the dirt with a string trimmer, then dethatch and rake the lawn. After that, sow lots of grass seed and water it a couple of hours a day. You’ll notice a difference in a few weeks, and be amazed in the spring!
You read instructions,,, and POURED a pint or more to a gallon??? Glad it helped. Use of "sticker" or dish soap to help plant absorb. Also a "marker" solution to enable you to see where you are spot spraying. The BIGGEST help would definitely be the use of a pre-emergent such as barricade before ground temps reach 55. Some plants germinate in early fall so if you have any of those, pre-emerge in September, but not if you plan to over seed. Good luck.
I can assure you that you werent getting good coverage with that little pump sprayer. You have to use at least a good backpack sprayer and apply a good even coat.
He needs to watch Doc! Hopefully he has found him on youtube. Also the weeds at the end of the video looks like wild violets and that is hard to kill you need weed B gon with Triclopyr in it.

That weed with the white flower is Virginia Buttonweed, one nasty invader. Each of those flowers drops 2 seeds that 100% germination. Not only that, it is a perennial with a crazy strong root system.
I have that button weed on mu lawn and says orthro weed b gone, which they took off the shelves ay lowes and home depot this year, i brought the concentrate on sale few months back under $2.00 and today 9/25/19, it's still on sale at Lowe's for $ 1.76 same bottle, made by Specicide Weed Stop same product, doesn't control crabgrass though, mu button weed it will plus over 200 other weeds, it does work to, Bought a few more bottles again..call first to see if they still carry it..good luck..
Not a sight of yellow flower after I used it. 👍🏻 hope that’ll help you. But do weedeaters and mows first then spread it next day. If weed plant is too big for your weedeater, use a branch cutter.
My understanding: grass can metabolize the active ingredients of the weed killer. It’s takes like 6 months but it can do it. I am not a professional I just have the internet.
Is this safe for an organic garden? I’m looking to apply this into my vegetable and flower garden. I’ve read the back label it has a lot of warnings to avoided contact with skin, eyes, clothing, it even says do not breath this stuff into your lungs. So can anyone confirm if this is safe for my edible garden plants? 🙏
At the levels home owners use, the stuff isn't going to be harmful. If you're getting it all over everything, all over your clothes and body and face.... probably need to rethink the methods being used to apply it. A little common sense will make any contact with stuff extremely minimal and irrelevant. The real harm is about farmers who deal with hundreds or thousands of gallons of herbicides all the time.
MotoAtheist this man is wearing shorts as he’s walking directly through the spray. All labels on these products state clearly these products are NOT supposed to be on the skin or inhaled and are only safe for humans and pets after the spray has completely dried. So if he has even so much as a scratch he’s getting a full dose. And no, I’m not buying your theory that it’s a much weaker solution for homeowners so they are safer. Ever wonder why all these cancer treatment centers are popping up all over?
@@randygreen007 I don't know why you appear argumentative toward me, we seem to be in agreement. Did you just ignore most of my comment? If the stuff is getting all over your body and face, probably need to rethink the methods being used to spread it. I can't think of any logical reason why anyone would end up with any amount of this stuff on them. It's not rocket science, especially using this stuff at home owner quantities.
MotoAtheist I’m not trying to be argumentative at all. Your opening sentence is very misleading and I assumed maybe you didn’t watch the video or you would have realized this young man was wearing shorts, not wearing any gloves or a mask yet he is walking directly into the fresh spray. These products are still very potent and indeed cause harm to homeowners when not applied properly.
@@randygreen007 Right, and what I mean by "levels home owners use" is that it's easily managed in gallon jugs. It's not like they are dealing with a 100 gallon tank and machine spreaders spewing it out in massive quantities. If a home owner cannot manage such low quantities, they might want to just higher professionals.
FYI... this mix was NOT concentrate. It was the “Ready to Use” solution. No water needed.

I've had no good results with ready to use version on dandelions.
I’ve tried on weed and feed fertilizer to spreads.
Those stuffs can definitely killed on dandelions.
Lol the weed man 👨 🤣
If you have ever sprayed your lawn before just go to minute 7 to get to the answer.
I need a weed man 😂
Do u add grass seed to brown spots?
Yes, after scraping away the dead grass.
MSMA... Target 6.... for crabgrass in bermuda.
I need a Weed-Man... err.... Well, ...
Haha!
This would have been a job for Tenacity./Blue dye/ Suf. I have never seen so much crabgrass.
Tenacity isnt supposed to be used on bermuda grass unless the grass is dormant
The weeds are nice and green lol
omg full strength ? i think your suppose to mix like 3 oz to a gallon of water ?
Depends if its concentrate or not. I am pretty sure this is a refill for the stuff that comes with the little battery powered wand.
Definitely need a different weed killer because I dont think that was crab grass
Surfactant
After applying weed killler, do we reseed the areas that were full of weeds?
Check out pre emergents.
it takes longer for the herbicide to show the result
That’s not meant for burmuda grass, it’s meant for cool grasses. Read the label.
Must use a broadleaf weed killer
That was button weed! Yuck Very hard to control.
No it's not.
Try going to domyownpestcontrol they have a lot products and information to deal with problem lawns
With that much crabgrass I would just rent a tiller and start over.
Did you try a pre-emergent early spring?
Bermuda grass actually is a type of weed too :p
Cameron tall fescue and all grass are weed 😁
Hhhmmm I’ve never seen anyone spray and walk through the spray. But since he doesn’t wear gloves or a mask is ortho not toxic to humans?
