Ncuti feeels like he had been playing The Doctor for a long time. He knew who he was as The Doctor right away, unlike previous Doctors who needed an episode or three, to become their true version of themselves. Simply outstanding.
As a character you mean, right ? Because previous actors have been _deliberately_ playing the Doctor as needing time to work out who they are. 15 is presumably benefitting from all the time 14 has/will have (wibbly wobbly :) put into working on their self. (not to take away from Ncuti BTW, he's doing a great job so far IMO but as 15 says, "I'm fine because you fixed yourself. We're Time Lords. We're doing rehab out of order.")
I thought this was a brilliant introduction to both the doctor and Ruby. The story itself is fairly secondary and fun. It was all about getting a sense of the new doctor and especially the new companion. We probably got more character development from both characters in one single epsiode than the previous Doctor/Companion(s) got in a full three seasons. It helps having a great character writer back!
pretty sure Mrs Flood will be a thing this season. might have been the hand that picked up the tooth containing the Master. could possibly be the Rani.
Everyone says that she could be The Rani, but Mrs. Flood seems friendly, and did not recognize The Tardis as a Tardis until it disappeared, so I really doubt she’s The Rani
It genuinely made me cringe so hard that I’m surprised I didn’t just collapse into a singularity. They couldn’t even make it diegetic, it had to be the most overproduced generic nonsense they could have possibly put in the show just so Disney could try and make some viral song lmao.
@@LordVanOskuro ah sorry lmao, got the timestamp mixed up with the musical number, which tbh is the only thing I saw that screamed ‘Disney demanded this be added’. The scene with the officer wasn’t that bad tbh.
Ncuti Gatwa is fantastic as The Doctor! It is like he was born to play The Doctor. 15th Doctor is so hopeful and carefree. I am excited to see more. As to who is Mrs. Floods? I would like to think she is a Time Lady. I really do like the fan theory, that she is The Doctor's daughter, Jenny, and the mother of Ruby. Bringing back The Doctor and his granddaughter adventure again like The First Doctor and Susan. "Hello, I'm The Doctor and this is my granddaughter, Ruby Sunday"
Jenny wouldn't make sense.. How would she know what a TARDIS is and not talk to the Doctor? She didn't know about the TARDIS, the Doctor never told her about it. She never saw it, she never even heard the name.
RTD absolutely *had* to be referring to alternate universes, cause it obliterates everything we know about the story otherwise. Just one example, if we assume retroactively that 11 and 12 coexisted at the point of regeneration, there's no way Clara went with 12, she stayed with 11. So we've significantly changed and rewritten the entire first 2 seasons of Capaldi's run. It basically unwrites or rewrites every single story in the entire franchise if a companion was present for the regeneration.
It’s definitely a problem that will be solved. We’ve had myths brought up 3 times after the salt at the end of the universe. 1. The salt itself. 2. Bigeneration was stated as a time lord ‘myth.’ 3. The goblin king is stated as in the song as ‘having a myth.’ I think this season or arc will be about solving the problems of myths coming true after Wild Blue Yonder.
@@DaPup Oh yeah, that could explain how this is all happening. Because they turned a myth into something real at the end of the universe, it's inadvertently making more and more myths become real. I think that's a cool concept for a season long story arc.
@@turnipcrazy4602 yea this is 100% what I believe. Russel even said this season would be more fantasy like and tbh I’m here for Russel doing his own go at Moffats amazing season long arcs that chug away in the background.
Great reaction. This was a good special! Ncuti is awesome in the role, I look forward to see where we go with him and his companion, along with your reactions
I'm pretty sure the "every Doctor bi-generated" thing was just to explain the BBC iPlayer spin off "Tales From The Tardis" and the use of a Memory Tardis to give the classic Doctors a reunion with their companions.
@@Tao_TologyI'm not remotely surprised about that, to be honest. I love the show, but the fans are genuinely hard work a LOT of the time. Possibly on the verge of surpassing Star Trek and Star Wars fans, at this point.
I really liked this episode. I feel there are so many threads for future stories, and I 100% believe the neighbour, Mrs Flood, and Ruby's parents will return in the next season.
The bigeneration happened every regeneration across multiple alternate time lines… the idea is, not only did our doctor bigenerate, but it also created a ripple effect across the multiverse in which every doctor bigenerated at some point… so that they can bring back old doctors without having to explain why they’re like 70 now, when they looked 40 something when they regenerated 😂
I am disregarding this infinite bigeneration nonsense because clearly that hasnt been happening lmao. The best theory for bigeneration is that 15 has lived all of 14s experiences with Donna (he talks about going through that "therapy" out of order or whatever right) and when 14 eventually regenerates into 15, he gets pulled back to the moment of the bigeneration. A sort of closed time loop, but by having 15 go off from there its what allowed 14 to be comfortable going and getting healthy and that, knowing that its a closed loop and a doctor will also go off from there.
@@ollyreece4208 exactly. It's a little weird for the guy in charge of the show to have headcanons about the show he's making, but in the interview that Aaron is referencing at the start of the episode, RTD makes it clear that every Doctor being retroactively bigenerated is only his theory (and the way he is looking at the Tales of the TARDIS series bringing back old Doctors). He and Moffat shared another such headcanon about Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead: Moffat originally had it in the script that the character Doctor Moon in that story was secretly the final incarnation of the Doctor, uploaded to live with his wife. They cut it from the script, but still considered it canon in their minds.
I like this because the doctor went through a lot. We can start fresh and how will the doctor's enemies deal with this doctor, will we see the angels they are the only one the doctor really doesn't like to run away from cause that is all you can do but will this doctor beat them
I am surprised that no reacters have noticed when myth to reality is mentioned. When the doctor used salt at start of time he brought myth to reality. Hence Toymaker, bigeneration, the goblins. I think as long as we have mavity, we will have a world that has myth as reality. It will be exciting to see how it plays out. Could mavity be myth plus reality
Ncuti sold me. He gives of classic Doctor vibes who get into places by sheer force of personality. As for the sonic, I like it is less powerful and is more of a multi tool. People seem to miss the reason it can't open the wooden door. No lock to unlock.
Love Ncuti's charisma, fun loving adventurous attitude. Like this weight has been lifted and he can just be free. Second his and Ruby's chemistry is amazing so far. Last, I think either The Doctors daughter or Missy is Ruby's mom
I like this episode. Is it the best ever? No, but it's decent. I like the mystery that is already been seeded for the coming season. I enjoy Ncuti Gatwa as the doctor. And Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday reminds me of Rose with a bit of Amy and Clara mixed in.
I got huge 11 timey wimey storyline vibes from this like silence levels of time shenanigans. Very much looking forward to Ncuti Gatwas run in May of 2024
Flood is speculated to be a number of characters. People say Mrs Flood's personality changed but I dont think so. She probably knew about TARDIS'S but didn't know that the blue box we love was a TARDIS until she saw it dematerialise. Hopefully a classic character returning or one of the more universal entities that are teased from 2023 episodes.
It blows my mind how many people seem to have missed the "Goblin selfie" joke. The goblins are curious and inquisitive. Obviously, one picked up the camera, accidentally hit the shutter button, took a close-up selfie, was startled by the flash going off, and dropped the camera.
(in the voice of Scott Lang) Just now noticing the baby arms... Trying to picture the Goblin King's skeleton and body proportions if he were as thin as the other goblins gets really weird really fast. Pretty sure he's either freakishly tall and lanky for a goblin, or his legs and feet are a substantial distance from the floor and never visible...
The T.A.R.D.I.S never misses its destination - it always takes The Doctor to where he needs to be! Great reaction! I watched it live and enjoyed it more watching it the second time with you guys... and gal! I think I might have to watch it again but I do agree the ENERGY Ncuti Gatwa brings is soooo Doctor! I agree with what Eric said that the voice of The Doctor needs presence and authority and Ncuti has that. Matt Smith sealed the deal for me with his ordering the Atraxi? to return; "get back here" in his first ep.
The casting of salt at the edge of ♾️ created mythical enemies as stories are going to be the driving line for the "" even newer who....but the Tardis and her doctor is a story unto itself....FIGHT!
RTD’s comments regarding all previous Doctors also splitting during their regenerations is not cannon. It was just RTD’s own speculation entirely separate from the show. He was basically being a Doctor Who fan😊
RTD is indeed a fan, but he also writes the show, he is the one that loads the ongoing story and fires the canon, RTD is currently the Whoverse God. Who is this god person anyway etc
Wizards of the coast released a magic card for all the doctors. Chuti's card referenced working with artifacts. I think the glove are just the beginning.
That RTD theory of the infinite bigeneration is fun, could explain stuff with Ruth, The Curator being a bigenerated 4th Doctor, a regenerated 14th bigenerated doctor with new regenerations, etc. But MAN, what happened then during those regenerations? Not all of them could have gotten their own TARDIS, what about Clara? No way she went with Capaldi if Smith was still running around. Same for Rose & Eccleston, the first Doctor’s companions, etc. Still, a fun idea, but glad he didn't make it canonical (yet)
I think the practical reason is if they all bigenerated is it immediately allows for the aging of old Doctor actors in parallel with the new Doctors, so you dont need unconvincing timey-wimey reasons why say the 5th Doctor guest-appearing now looks so old. Hes just the same 5th Doctor who kept on living after the 6th appeared, and got old.
@@wobaguk True, but then we will likely also need a new explanation for TARDIS duplication if they're gonna keep traveling, and plus it's never stopped them before, even older holograms or the timecrash minisode
@@FlynnTheRedhead do remember that RTD said he liked to believe they all Bi-generated, not that they all actually did. It’s more of his own headcanon than anything concrete. He likely isn’t going to revisit it anyway since it was done to reboot the show with an unburdened Doctor
We think it's easily explained by just having the timeline itself be split. If that's true, we're following one of those timelines. The 10th regenerated into the 10th. In this case, there's another dimension where it was either Matt Smith showing up early or someone completely new (the latter being more likely). That's our take on it, really, simple stuff if you're like us, believing in the multiverse and thinking way too much about it.
They put out a lot of behind the scenes on the effects work, you should definitely check them out. As suggested, mostly practical with effects to smooth it out.
Fun fact: Anita Dobson who plays the mysterious Mrs Flood is in the top 10 of most watched TV programmes of all time in the UK: Episode of soap opera 'Eastenders' she played the character Angie Watts in Xmas special cerca 1986!
Agreed. It's hilarious seeing them lose their minds. Especially when you know that Russell is intentionally trolling them. It's public record that he slips lines into his work that he knows will make the alt-right losers furious just for fun, hah. I love his attitude.
I wasn’t familiar with Ncuti when he was announced but I had a good feeling about him, something about his look, said fun. And then I saw him in Barbie… The entire way through that movie I just kept thinking, I cannot wait for the new Doctor Who! I honestly think he was born to play the doctor. But the casting for the doctor has never been bad. I don’t think they look at the acting of the actor. I think that they look at the actual person because every single one of them gets the importance of the role and they’re just stand up people. I guarantee you will never see a scandal with an actor that played the doctor.

Ncuti feeels like he had been playing The Doctor for a long time. He knew who he was as The Doctor right away, unlike previous Doctors who needed an episode or three, to become their true version of themselves. Simply outstanding.
exactly!! You've put words on what I am trying to say
Mind, this wasn’t his first full episode FILMED due to scheduling, but given its takes longer still for some performances to really click… yeah.
The Rani knows the Doctor has a TARDIS that looks like a police box. Mrs. Flood might not be her, but she definitely feels like a Time Lord
That is another one of the options people are suggesting. The Rani.
Especially given that she wasn't just being played by any old actor.
Oh my god, get those expectations in order, she’s probably someone who we’ll meet in the new series, not a fan service character
fun thing to note is that the old lady's door is Tardis blue
I totally forgot they hadn't reacted to this. So excited.
10:00 Fun fact: This is the one scene that Disney put input to. Probably one of if not the best scene in this special.
That explains why it’s there, it felt so wrong and out of place to me.
@@eclecticdog2k901 Why does it feel wrong? Its pretty in character with the doctor to show off his knowledge to some random person.
It genuinely made me cringe so hard that I’m surprised I didn’t just collapse into a singularity. They couldn’t even make it diegetic, it had to be the most overproduced generic nonsense they could have possibly put in the show just so Disney could try and make some viral song lmao.
@@Vin_Venture896 The heck you talking about? There was no singing in that scene.
The whole bigeneration idea ruined the final special for me, such a stupid idea.
Oh yeah, that's why he called it the Doctorverse, refering to the Spider-Verse, as in, this is a multiversal story
I love the Doctor Who crew. These reactions always make for a good day.
It wasn't to explain it, it was something that was written before Tales. It's just a multiverse thing, don't worry about it
I am genuinely stunned that anyone is taking RTD's not serious remark as cast iron gospel canon.
@@Tao_TologyI'm not remotely surprised about that, to be honest. I love the show, but the fans are genuinely hard work a LOT of the time. Possibly on the verge of surpassing Star Trek and Star Wars fans, at this point.
@@somerandomguy2073 Hey ! We're _way_ worse than Star Trek and Star Wars fans !
🙂
I really liked this episode. I feel there are so many threads for future stories, and I 100% believe the neighbour, Mrs Flood, and Ruby's parents will return in the next season.
In the UK we have been taking the piss out of the New Sky TV remote Sonic 😅
Is that the royal We, I dunno how many folks you canvased but I is from the UK loves it, far more sensible compact design.
@@zoe_blackmore didn't say anything about not liking it, but if you've been anywhere near the internet then you would know what's been said about it 🤣
Speak for yourself.
*Red Dwarf is a must watch if you like Doctor Who and Faulty Towers*
Agreed!
Specifically "Ouroborus"? 😉
I dunno.
Overall there are some great episodes but there are also low points in the decades-plus long run of the show.
@@Tao_Tology I meant the classics, I haven't watched the new stuff except back to earth
I mean, the TARDIS doesn't ever technically mess up the destination - It always takes the Doctor where they need to go ;)
But I guess I'll say 5 lol
Man Doctor Who has been hittin' lately!!! Loved this episode! Can't wait for more.
Murray Gold wrote the music and RTD the lyrics for the song
Yeah that's how I understood it
The whole bi-generation for every Doctor was just something RTD liked to think happened... I.e. it's just his theory, hasn't actually happened.
Exactly you got 100%
That goblin song did not have to be as good as it was
Yes! I've been waiting for your reactions!
i have been waitinf for this for ages
Belinda Owusu, the actress who played the woman pushing the pram at midnight, was also a regular on EastEnders.
Ncuti sold me. He gives of classic Doctor vibes who get into places by sheer force of personality.
As for the sonic, I like it is less powerful and is more of a multi tool. People seem to miss the reason it can't open the wooden door. No lock to unlock.
Eric's little delighted claps as 13:05 is killing me LMFAO
Anita Dobson is also married to Queen Guitarist Brian May
Anita Dobson also just happens to be married to Brian May, of Queen. But that doesn't make me feel old at all. Great reaction! Thanks.
You beat me to it!
15:16
I am actually born two minutes before my due date 🤣🤣🤣
RTD actually wrote the lyrics for the song and Murray Gold composed them
Love Ncuti's charisma, fun loving adventurous attitude. Like this weight has been lifted and he can just be free. Second his and Ruby's chemistry is amazing so far. Last, I think either The Doctors daughter or Missy is Ruby's mom
I will miss the lonely sadness in the Dr as made him vulnerable. I love a sad man 😅 Batman , Jon Snow, Daryl Dixon to name a few 😂
I think that he meant the Tennant Who's past travels back, but Gatwa Who is free of such a past.
I got huge 11 timey wimey storyline vibes from this like silence levels of time shenanigans. Very much looking forward to Ncuti Gatwas run in May of 2024
Did not know she played Eileen Clint from an 8th Doctor story. That’s pretty cool
Yeah, sure, got that. Still not seeing a joke in there...
joke?
“she carried the most precious gift of all” “dr pepper” and you would be right
The casting of salt at the edge of ♾️ created mythical enemies as stories are going to be the driving line for the "" even newer who....but the Tardis and her doctor is a story unto itself....FIGHT!
RTD’s comments regarding all previous Doctors also splitting during their regenerations is not cannon. It was just RTD’s own speculation entirely separate from the show. He was basically being a Doctor Who fan😊
It's the Doctorverse, a multiverse thing. So it doesn't mess the canon anyway, don't worry about it.
I think by "wrong world" the doctor meant that the goblins come from a different understanding of physics, so the sonic wouldn't work regardless
New season of Doctor Who began❗️ can’t wait for it 🙏🏼
They were supposed to upload the reaction today. But now I'm starting to wonder if that's happening.
@@chazo1367 That’s why I called it “that RTD theory” and “glad he didn’t make it canonical”, but he might change his mind who knows
Had 4 specials and you can already feel that doctor who is back and all the credit for that needs too go too RTD and Murray Gold
Ncuti had the shirt, underpants, and shoes, Tenent had the undershirt. vest, and pants (which means he was barefoot and comando).
FINALLY!!!! Where were you?!?!?!? LOL!!!! THANKS for this!!!!
I’m putting a pin on the extended bigeneration until I see media that references it.
Fun fact: Anita Dobson who plays the mysterious Mrs Flood is in the top 10 of most watched TV programmes of all time in the UK: Episode of soap opera 'Eastenders' she played the character Angie Watts in Xmas special cerca 1986!
Iirc she was in the soap from the very first episode.
indeed, she is well known and especially for the Xmas episode
Aaron off to the darts
Finally!
I LOVE the way you all say Eastenders. In the uk we don’t separate the word like “east Enders” we say it as one word like”estender”
As soon as The Doctor said "Ventilation Shaft" I knew exactly what they would say in their reaction. 😂
Love Ncuti and Millie already, so fun. Also one of the actors playing a goblin was a Teletubby.
The idea of Big generation being retroactive does help explain the Curator in the 50th anniversary episode. He was a past Doctor who was there...
I'm sure it's also mentioned but Anita Dobson is also Brian Mays wife (the guitarist of Queen)
Ruby gives me huge Clara vibes
Brilliant episode, brilliant new doctor, brilliant new companion and even more brilliant meltdown from the "anti-woke" brigade.
It's just not very good let's be honest

The goblins were practical efforts btw
the goblins were actually short people in costumes! no special affects except for cloning a few of them to add in the background 😊
they were made shorter in post. they explain it all in the behind the scenes for the episode
funny how the numbering of doctor who seasons/series is more complicated than the numbering of the doctor's incarnations
I do believe that the elderly neighbor lady is Jo Grant... Or at least that's their character named might have misspelled Jo 😅
Davina is Davina’s name in real life. SHES PLAYING HERSELF. That’s wild. (I only know this because I’ve seen her on panel shows hosted by Jimmy Carr)
I been waiting for this, such a fun thing
I wasn’t familiar with Ncuti when he was announced but I had a good feeling about him, something about his look, said fun. And then I saw him in Barbie… The entire way through that movie I just kept thinking, I cannot wait for the new Doctor Who! I honestly think he was born to play the doctor. But the casting for the doctor has never been bad. I don’t think they look at the acting of the actor. I think that they look at the actual person because every single one of them gets the importance of the role and they’re just stand up people. I guarantee you will never see a scandal with an actor that played the doctor.
Love your reactions! Perfect vibe for the new Doctor!
