      As someone who's pieced together a set of 5-75, these are a deal. The only reasons to have a full set are 1) multiple people using the gym at the same time needing them 2) Supersets with different weights 3) you really like having a large chunk of wall space to hold all those DB's. I'm seriously thinking of buying these for when I actually need to go above 75 as then I have 80-120 for less than the cost of trying to get those in individual and I don't need another rack.

      I spent about 2500+ pre-covid for the concrete cap dumbbells from 2.5lbs up to 130lbs with missing about 3 increments along the way. Almost a full set. That took up a ton of space too. 1400 for these is pretty damn nice.

    You can purchase the 20 lb plates for Ironmaster dumbbells which will make the handle just like a regular dumbbell because the add-on plates insert into the handle.
    Downside is if you do a lot of light weights for therapy, its a pain in the ass to have to remove and reattach them. I ended up buying some 5/10/15lb traditional dumbbells because I do a lot of rehab exercises after having back surgery.

      Heavy handle solves the longer handle issue even though I can say that after almost 5 years of daily use, it's not an issue for me at all without.
      I love that they don't rattle around, the absence of a cage make them suitable for any exercise imaginable.
      I like the repins a lot but I wouldn't ditch the IMs for them, especially if you get the IMs for cheap used or on sale. If you don't mind the slightly slower weight switch, they are downright king.

With the heavy handle kit, you solve any balancing issues mentioned around the 11:00 mark. Identical feel to fixed dumbbells. No rattle or slop. No cage/bar. No issues with angle drops. I'm really excited to see how other companies respond to this now or what a v2 may have in store in the future.
    I'd love to see Snode especially update their dumbbell with smaller increments and maybe a heavier max weight up to 100lbs but keep it cage-free and reasonably durable. I don't need it to survive being thrown off a building 😂, but a couple feet drops would be nice.
    Right now, the cage and weight-adjustment design are a deal-breaker for me on these Reppins.
    I don't want to have to adjust 4-places to change the weights of two dumbbells and make sure they all match, especially when the adjustment pin doesn't very clearly line up with the weight labels. This is one of the things I hated about the Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells I tried like 15 years ago when first getting into working out and had to adjust all 4 ends to set the weight, so I swapped it for the SA Gear 5-50lb Adjustables which have lasted me this entire time.
    My discontinued SA Gear dumbbells actually have a similar adjustment style to these Reppins where you pull a pin and slide it and release, but it adjusts both sides of the dumbbells from just one pin so it's faster to change weight and you can never make it uneven (maybe that option is a pro to some people, but I have no need for uneven loading). But they are definitely not super durable and I don't/can't drop them.
    I prefer the single adjustment point and cage-free design of something like Snode/Trulap/Nuobells but I know that makes it much trickier to also make it durable so there are trade-offs.
    If someone can solve this engineering problem and produce a cage-free, 5-10lb start weight to 100lbs+ max weight, 2.5lb-5lb increments, single-adjustment point, durable dumbbell under $1,000 they'd basically have the perfect option IMO.

    I have had mine for about a month now and I absolutely love them. I too have the issue of the pop pin lining up perfectly on the weight increment numbers. I have made the mistake of selecting the wrong weight when I first started using them. Now I just take an extra second to make sure I have everything lined up where I want them. These are the best adjustable dumbbells out there IMO. REP also warranties these for life. Can’t get any better than that. Thanks so much for the fantastic review. Love all your content. These things were barely not worth it at the initial price unless you really had a niche use case scenario, but at $1,400 for the full heavy set it's a good value. I have some 1090 bowflex ones I got used and while decent, you do have to be careful with them and they don't work well for certain exercises where you need to hold the end of the dumbbell. It is interesting that these actually come as a 65lb pair. The third box has 4 additional plates which converts it to 85lbs then you can purchase 1 or 2 more sets of 4 weights which converts them to 105 or 125. Even the bases have the holes drilled for 65lbs set. Not sure why rep did not sell them this way. 65/85/105/125. I got a set last week and have a guy coming to pick them up this weekend. I just could not get used to all the rattling/pop pins being in the way/4 removable plates that I have keep up with/no rack availability/no easy way to use versa grips or straps/and the rings on pop pins for extra plates. I wanted to love these so bad, I ordered them so early I got the 849 price before they jacked them up…. That black widow rack is awesome, but based on the other stuff on thier site, I bet it will retail for more than a 4 post 93 inch pr5000. Great video as always. I am also curious as I type this what would happen if I stuck 2-4 felt circles on the add on plates. Would they still slide in and out but kill the rattle? Maybe that would be a game changer?

    If you have these, the right side will be a little above the weight marker you want (in terms of weight) and the left rail is a little below. E.g. if you want 50 lbs, go between 50 and 60 on the right and between 50 and 40 on the left.

I also sometimes have an issue with putting them back in the cradle where it gets stuck to another weight plate or doesn’t go in smoothly. My other issue is the ring on the adder weights have completely popped out on me twice before, it’s easy to put back together but the spring and other small parts can fly off and get lost. Luckily that hasn’t happened yet. I imagine they should be easy fixes in a v2 but overall I love these over my old Ironmaster set.

    FYI, you can use microgainz plates for the 1.25 lbs. adders. No need to wait around for Rep to make some. They fit nicely and probably even are a little more balanced than the Reppin adders. The microgainz 2.5 lbs. adders won't fit, however.

    • @TonyChanTurbo
      @TonyChanTurbo Месяц назад

      Do the microgainz 1.25 adders also lock in like the Repin adders do? Also there's probably no way to get to a 7.5 increment right? with two 1.25 you could get a 2.5lb increment, and with two 2.5 adders you can get to 5lb increment, but no combination would make it to 7.5lbs unfortunately.

    • @benbarnett1076
      @benbarnett1076 Месяц назад +1

      @ they don’t “lock in” in the same way, the mechanism just clamps to the handles to lock them in place. No concern with them moving or falling out, I actually find them slightly annoying to remove.
      You can do a 7.5 lbs. increment, but it won’t be totally even. You can simply slide only one side to the higher 10 lbs weight and add a 2.5 lbs. plate to the other side. This was actually Pepin’s initial way for 5 lbs. increments before the adder plates. It’s not ideal, but also not as odd feeling as you’d expect (at least a higher weights) if you REALLY need that increment

    Trulap for small weights, Ironmaster for heavy weights is still the best solution imho. No cage, small increments in the lower weight range, high stability in the upper weight range.

    Not sure it's possible, but would love to see a knock off Bowflex in the adjustable comparison video. There's many cheaper variants of that design out there so would be interesting to see how they actually holds up against the others.

    Did you figure out why they left the marks slightly off center? It’s one of the first things I noticed with mine. It might be a machining technique issue or an issue of strength of the side bars when they did it perfectly lined up. What’s your engineering mind think about this?

    Does the cage get in the way doing full ROM wrist curls (flexion) or reverse wrist curls (extension)?

      $800 and that’s just for the attachment looks too expensive for what they are offering in my opinion. Not to mention they are charging the same price whether you get there barbell or not. That makes zero sense in my opinion. Plus it looks cheap and like something people like Kaizen could DYI

    I’ve had mine for 3 weeks now and while they are awesome I do have a issue that I’ve seen a number of other people report also. I have larger hands and the locking pop pin on the slide bar hits the back of my hard to the point it really digs in during lifts. I wish the inside part of the pin was a tad shorter and rounded off some. It really is an annoying issue and can be painful

    Wondered if the microgains fit on these as they did for the original Pepin dumbbells? I think Basement Brandon showed them when he first reviewed his prototype.
    It seems most of the suggestions for improvement concern the adder weights and wonder if the microgains may be better instead to still get the small changes. IF anyone's used the microgains on the Rep x Pepin dumbbells would be keen to hear their feedback!

    Only thing i would add to he review is some more discussion on how they adjust and how long it takes vs. competitors. For instance, since they are easier to line up in the craddle - does adjustment time roughly match Nuobells/Snode/Trulap? Or are those still notably faster?

    First off thank you for the video and for the rx3000 video, which is the first one I watched from you. Because of that video and my comment the company has reached out to me to rectify previous issues....
    Here's my two cents on the Reppins. For $1500 I am extremely underwhelmed. While they are probably the most aesthetically pleasing adjustable dumbbell on the market I don't feel that that should be a major concern in your training. Functionality should be. I don't plan on dropping these from the roof of my house in fact I'm mind boggled that most people don't just spend $100 on a pair of 20" Amazon drop pads and use any adjustable dumbbell they want. What kills me the most about this style after 3 workouts is the adjustment set up. In order to adjust you pop the pins from the inside. I don't have huge hands yet so far three times when I kick these up to do bench press my knuckle hits the pop pin out and unlocks the plates!! You actually did the same thing in this video, but surprisingly didnt mention it (13:20). I am absolutely Blown Away of this oversight and looks like it's the same design of the original peppins. Now I thought about flipping the Pop pins but then you run the risk of unlocking if they are rolling on the ground after a set. I still think that would be a safer alternative than dropping them on your face. But something as simple as a shorter Pop pin or a thicker rail could simply rectify the issue. Haven't reached out to rep yet because I wanted to try a few workouts before I decide if i am going to return, but these are kinda dangerous and at this price there should be zero issues with functionality.
    Edit... it just dawned on me and it may affect the price, but why not make the Pop pins able to be screwed in just like the zero Gap adjustment works on their black wing seat? You don't have to use the screw in feature if you don't want to but the threading would lock it and keep it from popping through the other side 🤔

    Love the stand! When you unrack the weight, do the extra plates fall over when they are slanted upward in the cradle?

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  2 месяца назад +1

      No but Rep doesn't recommend an angled stand because they can fall at enough of an angle. Also since the top plates will lean forward some they're not quite as easy to rerack but I just push the DB into the top stack and they slide right in.
