- Neil Young, Crazy Horse and Willie Nelson perform "Homegrown" live at the Farm Aid concert in Hershey, Pennsylvania on September 22, 2012. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Scouring the memory banks for the earliest recollection of Neil influence I cant shake one summer week in 72? Heart of Gold was in rotation as a top 40 hit. Ever since that day/week Ive looked forward to what Neil was up to, living in Santa Cruz in the early 1980s was magical as Neil played regularly, even saw him in Salinas at Sherwood Hall for $5.95? This might seem like the rambling of an old man..it is.. but the point is that his influence and genuine human interaction are valuable and rare coming from such an icon. Neil is a national..Bi-National treasure.
Keep on keeping on Neil, the sound and groove you invented, you put life into..still reverberates and enthralls us.
We are all so lucky to share these years!!
skid lee Amen brother, I saw him this tour w/Lukas Nelson and POTR. The old songs were so invigorated by Neil playing with these youngsters. I didn't love all the new songs but some were good and we got an amazing Cowgirl, Love And Only Love, Out on the Weekend, etc.
Except for the Beatles, no one has ever exerted more influence over my musical tastes and philosophy than Neil. Long may he run.
All these years, I've been thinking this song was about marijuana. Not about local farmers. But now that I've seen this video, I realize it was about local farmers all along.
Can Neil play guitar or what? OMGosh by Golly!!!!! He showed me how when I was 22 and he's still showing me how at 72. We all must get back to the land on some level thank you so much all farm aid leaders for showing us the way .

I'll give you that.....lots of good things take time....one step at a time. People that eat the factory foods will be ruined health wise in the future. We have to resist being controlled in our lives.....that is the message. I don't like seeing people being poor, and not having options in their day to day lives.

It wouldn't be expensive if we all stood together and boycotted the big corps'. If we quit eating factory farmed meat, farmed fish, foreign produce and supported our own country's local production, things would change. Do you think WalMart Costco and the other big boys give a fuck about our health and wellness?

When I say it's not as simple as that I mean, take a poor family and tell them that they have to not buy factory farmed meat and so on - they'll be ruined. SO IT'S NOT JUST AS SIMPLE AS THAT!

I adore both these cats but there is some disconnect in guitar style that I wouldnt have expected, unless Willie is just that baked. Hes too amazing to sound that clunky. Good to see em together regardless.
Idk, but it sounds just like i'd imagine these guys wanted it to. That dissonant and rough around the edges sound is sorta Neil's thang mang. Like he doesn't give a cluck about what other people think about how he sounds. He just feels it man.
