  • The old MSI PRO Z690-A was an amazing budget Z690 motherboard, so can the new MSI PRO Z790-A motherboard for Intel Raptor Lake CPUs live up to that legacy? Well today, I take a look at the latest MSI Z790 Pro A motherboard in its various flavours, the MSI PRO Z690-A DDR5, MSI PRO Z690-A DDR5 WiFi, MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4, and MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 WiFi, as I try to figure out who would want this motherboard over the much cheaper Z690 variant!
    But wait a second, the title says MSI Pro Z790-P! So which one is it? Well those two MSI motherboards with similar names are two distinct models with a few differences between them. So in this video let's go over what the MSI Z790 Pro P does differently, and settle the MSI Pro Z790-A vs Z790-P debate!

    Thank you for this video. I ordered the P version without taking the time to compare. It's got everything I need so I didn't give it a second thought. My order hasn't been delivered yet and, after finding your video, I decided to look up the A version. As it turns out, it currently costs $20 less than the P version. So I canceled my order and placed a new one. Not only did you direct me towards a superior motherboard, but you saved me $20. Awesome.🤜🤛

    Why didn't you mention different audio chip... The problem with most mid-range Z790s is that they stick to ALC897, which sometimes is even a downgrade from the last year's models. And that also applies to Z790-P, while the Z790-A has ALC4080.. .

    • @avrona
      @avrona  Год назад +3

      Good catch, that's a pretty major downgrade there!

      Not with the ASUS if you drive a stereo amp. 11 years ago ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Motherboard design had a competely isolated ground plane for the audio circuit. Those kicked butt.

      If you are getting your audio through the video card, then the motherboard audio chip doesn't matter right? Do video cards generally provide better quality sound?

    I've got the DDR4 version. Got it, a 12600kf and 16gb of DDR4 Memory for 250 at Microcenter (killer deal if you ask me! Bought individually that's between 4-500). I did have some problems getting it to boot since only the last PCI-E slot would give me video, which I had to dust off an old nvidia 8400 single slot to use. Once I was able to get into the BIOS I had to switch from UEFI mode to CSM mode (I guess these newer boards don't work well in UEFI mode when paired with older GPUs). After that I was able to plug my old R9 Fury Nano into the first slot and everything was good. The wifi on this board is actually really good, I was very surprised at how well it worked- it's nearly indistinguishable from a wired connection (I have both hooked up, and it seems to use the Ethernet when the wi-fi is slow- I think it uses both, old tech you had to manually switch between wifi or Ethernet/LAN). So far it's a great board with a lot of potential and a lot upgrade options, plus it's got x2 8 pin CPU connectors so you could push a CPU up to 600 watts for some serious overclocking (each 8 pin is rated at about 300 watts each). So far I'm very happy with it, especially for the price I got it for!
    *I will add a note- if I hadn't bought a bundle and was buying individual parts I think for the price I would have went with a different MB, this is a bit overkill for my needs but I certainly can't complain about having more than I need! It's a production system that mainly runs a laser engraver and I use it to render videos- I do all my editing on a different PC though.

    Hi everyone. Ive got a quesion. If i have 2 nvme storages, which slots of m2 shall be ocupated so that i dont cut 16xlanes from gpu

    • @sannyassi73
      @sannyassi73 3 месяца назад

      The primary slot uses the CPU, the others use the z790 chipset- the manual shows that anyway. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure on the P version it uses the Gen 4 slots (the second/third full length PCI-E slot), which I think works at x8. I am not 100% sure though. Unless you're doing a whole lot moving files regularly it shouldn't make a notable difference regardless of which lanes they use. If you do choose this MB (or any other) just test the NVME in the different slots and use crystaldiskinfo to check the speeds when installed in the different slots if you need absolute top speeds, then pick the fastest one. I hope that helps, take care ;)

    • @sannyassi73
      @sannyassi73 3 месяца назад

      This MB will work just fine with a 14700k. It is a very well rounded board with a balance of a lot of different things. Which MB to pick depends on your needs though, do you need a lot of USB slots? do you need a lot of PCI-E lanes? Do you need many M.2 slots? Do you need wi-fi? Do you need a good integrated sound card? Etc. Which MB is best for you really depends on your use. Like I said, this is a good balance with a decent amount of USB, 3 full length PCI-E lanes, 3 M.2 slots, 6 SATA ports, 2 USB 3 expansion headers, standard Realtek audio, it's got RGB headers if you want that, it's got quite a few system fan headers, etc. Anyway, I hope that helps answer your question ;)

      @sannyassi73 3 месяца назад +1

      @@apurbodebnath111 You folks probably don't need an answer anymore but if someone else looks: They should both be fine, just look at the specs, whichever board has more of what you want then go for that one (like if you need more USB slots, choose the one with more, if one has more m.2 slots and you need them go with that, etc.)- z690/z790 are pretty equivalent to each other. If both boards have pretty much the same features at the same price I'd go for the newer one. I also love MSI's BIOS (they're my favorite MB maker) so I tend to lean towards them if there's a brand difference. And I just plain stay away from Gigabyte/ASUS products with all the problems and bad customer service they've had lately (they used to be two of my go-to brands, but they are both pretty much last on my list anymore). Hope that helps someone :D
