Thank you so much for making this video! I'm limited in my PC building knowledge, and this video was beautiful for tying together what all these specs mean and performance trade-offs. This video was awesome and I learned so much! I also greatly appreciate how share what's needed for good gaming, as it's overwhelming with all these boards that are more expensive with bells & whistles, if you just want to have a great gaming PC and don't care about the fancy RGB lights. I see other videos by you for PC building, I'm looking forward to learning from those!
You my friend are READING OUR MINDS!!!! You knew EXACTLY what we wanted to hear after the reviews of new intel processors and that is MOTHERBOARDS!!! Thank you! Such an amazing value you are and i don't mean your channel, i mean your knowledge man.
That was the hope! We figured the other channels would do a great job testing the CPUs and we wanted to help people with the next steps. So glad you enjoyed and thank you!
@@PCBuilderChannel Hey!
Can you please suggest me a few best value mATX Z690 board?
Only a limited options available in India
@@PCBuilderChannel I like the Lark Pro mini box - it is cute & a Celeron so fast enough for internet, email, & office stuff - even some games too...
@@PCBuilderChannel you nailed it
I swear 😂😂😂😂
You fill such an important niche with your excellent videos. While most sites are focused on benchmarking, you help to distill that data into actual purchase recommendations. Keep up the great work. Your content is an instant watch. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you so much! That's exactly our goal so it's great to hear. Hope you keep enjoying the content!
Without benchmarking of any kind, specs mean nothing.
I can show how a MB compared in every way is 10% spec'd faster but in 4k gaming that would come to 1FPS, so why did the 10% matter. It Didn't.

Hi,i decided to upgrade from ryzen 5 1600 to the Intel i5 13600kf.I have order RAM ddr5 6400 with 32 cl.My dilemma at the moment is for the motherboard.I understand Z690 will be cheaper option right now for at least 100$,but the Z790 have higher RAM clockspeed, and cause the motherboard i'll get i 'll keep it for the next 3-4 years i think it's better to get the Z790 for future RAM upgrade .I've looking for Asus prime Z790-p.But for 40$ extra is also the Gigabyte Z790 Gaming X AX,a bit more expensive is also the MSI MPG Z790I Edge WiFi.you think i'll have any different in gaming between these?(cause i want it only for gaming).Any other sugestion? An opinion from an person with your experience and your knowledge will be realy helpfull for me.
It looks like the pg riptide is a pretty solid upgrade from the pg4 from asrock despite the similar name they have different features and the riptide has a 13 phase VRM instead of only 9. Sure would be nice if the branding for these new boards was more clear, but that's been a problem for a few years now.
Thank you for the video! These are always useful to understand all the functionalities! 😸
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Jason,
Quick question: if I buy a decent DDR4 Z690 board for a 12th Gen CPU (12100 or 12400) can I count on upgrading the CPU in 2-3 years to 13th Gen (13600 or higher) and get a decent performance or will I be bottlenecking the 13th Gen?
Set-up for 70% Gaming and 30% photos/videos.
Thanks
This was a great video! I was not aware of your channel previously but I thought this overview was great and saved me the time of having to peruse this data myself. Thanks for presenting this in an informative and family friendly way!
Thank you and keep the content coming. Even the videos that I think dont pertain to me, teach me something. I'm planning on building the most "future proof" system I can , without getting a 4000 series Nvidia card and these all educate me on the developments of the last few years that I have ignored.
Thanks Jason! If you guys are just like me, not in a rush to build a gaming+streaming PC, wait for black friday + christmas discounts.
I know you recommended a lot of Gigabyte, but I still can't get over the fact they've sent me so many broken components over the years (even after trying again, as it can happen to any manufacturers). 2 Boards & 2 gfx cards... This time I think I'm gonna try to have an MSI board, I've heard they stepped up recently on their products.
I have the same feeling for ASUS. Over the last 15 years, I've had 6 or 7 Asus motherboard. I had problem with three of them. For me asus, never again.
@@SERGIO.897 I had a problem once with an ASUS board, but I think it was just because I bought a poor PSU at that time lmao 😅 - Anyway on this gen ASUS seems to overprice their boards, so I'm not even considering buying one.
I agree, If there's some crazy deal for black friday/cyber monday that could change the whole decision on what to build. Still have an old MSI Bazooka Plus trucking along from Skylake, Asrock Z390 phanthom itx/a/c board also doing okay from my 9th gen 2020 build. Checking the individual board reviews usually helps to avoid ones that are more likely to have issues.
I’m about to build my first high end gaming desktop. In your experience, are Black Friday deals usually worthwhile? I worry about stock and inventory as we near the holiday season.
@@dianaalyssa8726 I feel you! Still have a Kaby Lake 7700k from 2017. It still holds its own but you can clearly feel it's getting harder to maintain good perf. I'm mostly worried about the Mobo these days... They're getting more expensive but offer way less sometimes, especially the z790. But as I'm not in a rush, I'll wait & see reviews & maybe new future boards.
Thanks so much for the amazing video Jason! I am planning on building a high end build in the next few months with the 4090 and was planning on getting a 13900kf to go with it. I was planning on getting the MSI MPG Z690 Force WIFI ATX motherboard to go with it and was wondering what you thought about that combo or what a better alternative would be?
From what I assume you want to partner a ultra fast ddr5 ram with the build, then definitely go with a z790 mobo is more stable, if you like MSI I would recommend z790 carbon. Force is kind of in a weird place, it's more expensive than edge but has less feature than a meg board like ace or unify. If you want white cosmetics, strix-a or m14 formula are better choice. Other than that 13900k not a great overclock cpu, but if you definitely want supreme overclock I think maximus hero is better.
May I recommend not MSI It does not give a greatest picture...
EVGA Z690 is a clearly better choice I have both and not even close to happy with MSI. Wish I had never purchased for what it is worth!
Thanks for the guide especially on the Audio Codec!
I have overlooked this part while choosing my motherboard
Thanks for the video.
I think a sweet idea would be to do a price to performance full build video!
Also, you mentioned it may be better to get “fast DDR4 ram” would that mean 3200, 3600 etc? Have any good value recommendations for the 13600k
I was thinking of buying the z790 tomahawk ddr5 version. But after watching this I have decided to got for z690 ddr4. I will save around $200 in this and use that on getting a better gpu.
Thanks for the guides like this. It helps a lot in choosing which parts to pick.
Tomahawk and gigabyte gaming are both at the similar price now.
Love the content! I'm looking at building my first gaming PC in the next couple weeks and wanted to get your take on the best route to take. I'm going for 1440p gaming mostly but I do plan on playing some more open world/sim games in the future. I have a budget of about $1200. Do you think going the AMD route with either the 5600X(5700X if I go with a slightly cheaper motherboard) or an Intel 12th gen would be the better option? I don't care about overclocking. I'm leaning slightly to an AMD system because the b550 boards just seem to have everything I need with good audio for cheaper than the Intel boards. Just wanted to get your take on it.
5600X is roughly on par with the 12600K in gaming with slightly cheaper motherboards (though as you can see, Z690 has gotten much cheaper). For tighter budgets I'd go 5600X (or even just the 5600 to save money) and throw the savings into a faster GPU. Good luck on the build!
@@PCBuilderChannel thanks for the reply and help! Keep up the great work!
1200$ for the complete hardware? Good luck with that if you want a decent pc
@@rvh1702 the build I have priced together through Newegg I can get a 5600X a solid b550 board with good audio and an rx6800 for just under $1200. Older hardware is getting fairly cheap.
This was super helpful! Love the knowledge and research you put into all your videos. Thank you!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel! So glad we could help!
Great video! Most of your recent posts have helped me choose all the parts for my first PC
So glad we could help!!
This guy has the best CPU channel on RUclips and I've seen a lot. It applies to what matters to 99% of people. Too many of these types of channels talk about abstract BS or theory or complaints that have nothing to do with computers. I only use this guy now for my current and new 2023 build.
Thanks for the awesome feedback! Really means a lot to us. Hope you keep enjoying the content
Great breakdown! Sad to see that none of these reasonably priced boards have a debug display, a feature which I've used countless times in the past. Also astonishing that the lower end ASUS boards don't have bios flashback, especially for being Z690s...
The way you broke all this down into terms I could understand and gave honest suggestions super helped. The aero D is 200 off in aus and I'm gonna pick it as a streamer I think it will be a great option for gaming and editing.
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching
Great commentary on audio codec quality. Quick question. How do you identify the audio codec chipset if the motherboard specs just say "Realtek Audio CODEC". It never occurred to me that there could be quality differences between these chips. However, I only care about basic stereo from the line-out jack.
I am planning to build a system with intel i9 -13900k(already purchased it) for my video editing. I did want to get a Gigabyte Z690 Aero D motherboard until I watched yourvideo. You are excellent . I watched several videos of yours, they are very educational. I agreed with other people who left comments for your video. Most of the things you are explainingwe do not get from other pundits in the field.
Jason, I need you advice to select the right DDR5, Z790 motherboard with bios flashback and least expensive RTX 3070 GPU for my needs.
Thank you very much in advance. By the way, I subscribedyou.
you seem very knowledgable, Why would i have crashing problems in my game with "Re-sizable Bar" enabled in my BIOS (for nVidia re-sizable bar enabled configuration). If i have my XMP memory profile enabled 6000 DDR5 ram, and 12900K overclocking enabled using ASUS AiOC overclocking BIOS features and I ALSO have resizable-BAR enabled...I get crashes in my game,,,, If I turn Re-SIZABLE-bar off, I don't get the crashes even though I have still have XMP enabled and AiOC enabled (ASUS overclocking on the 12900K in the ASUS ami bios)? Any ideas ???
I actually learn things when I watch your content. As to where guys like GN can fall into techno babble where it depends on existing knowledge. Being informative to people with little experience is something I have not seen much of in this community despite this being my second full pc build. You also seem positive as to where GN and HU feel cynical to the point where their content is exhausting.
Thank you for the awesome feedback! We really appreciate it. Our goal is to be accessible for new and returning pc builders alike and we love what we do so glad to hear that positive energy is coming through! Hope you keep enjoying the content (:
@@PCBuilderChannel I am a returning builder. my Old pc ist now 6 years old and showing its age. Mostly my 1080 is killing itself. This video helped me so much with info i didn´t find anywhere else. (ALC codec)

Paused the video to thank you, I've built several pcs in the past but now I'm catching up to speed with everything that was released, it's easy to be overwhelmed but you explained every single aspect I could think of!
Thank you for the awesome feedback! It really means a lot to us. I've been in the same boat, coming back to it after some time away and needing to catch up. Best wishes on your new build!
I intended to buy an Asus Maximus Z790 Hero, but now, given their recent quality-control failures, I'm not so sure anymore. I want 96 GB of memory for creative applications, preferably at a high speed, so I'm looking at G.Skill's set at 6400 MHz & CL32, but not many Z790 ATX motherboards support this combination of capacity and speed. If I avoid Asus boards, my choice seems to be either MSI Carbon/Edge/Tomahawk or the Asrock Riptide; apparently no Gigabyte board supports 6400 MHz CL32 at 96 GB currently.
I'm willing to pay a couple hundred bucks extra for added reliability, since I can't afford to have the motherboard fry any of the components, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much data on failure rates. I wish there were more statistics on this so consumers could make a more informed decision.
Yeah
As you have said 1 year ago, i bought z690 gaming x ddr4.
And i love this mother board
And as you predicted, i can upgrade to 13900k without any problem for VRM.
I have 12600k and this cpu is so good, i dont feel i need to upgrade to 13900k right now.
Probably some years later when i feel i need a better cpu but right now, 12600k covering everything i need from high end cpu
Great vid jason
As always, you are on point.

@@waifuhunter9709 yes fornthat MB socker lga 1851. Meteor lake and arrow lake. My cpu is i7 12700k and rog strix z690-a d4 and rtx 3060.
should you change that cpu? why?. I with the i7 12700k have plenty. I wait for a Meteor Lake to give the step to the ddr5.
Great video! You have helped me immensely. I love the tips and format of your videos.
Super useful, thank you. 🎉 I was wondering what the Z meant and 690 vs 790. The bios update on the 690 does worry me. Like most I hate dealing with bios.😅
Great video. Checked out reviews for 13th gen, and I think that Intel has reached a bit of a crossroads for their CPUs.
Despite large boosts in core count in 13th gen thanks to the extra E cores, Intel could not always best AMD in multithreading, especially vs R9 7950X. Notable are workloads that benefit from AVX512, which Intel does not support because the E core architecture doesn't support those instructions, and AMD took wins in said workloads. So simply throwing more E cores at the multithreading problem is not always the best solution.
Clearly hybrid processors must be designed carefully, with the right balance of P and E cores, as well as make sure the two core designs support all the same instructions. (AMD actually teased this when they revealed Zen4, as the mentioned Zen4c, a E-core-esque version of Zen4 that still supports all of the same instructions, clearly a shot at Intel)
Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
both take trades, but intel other offerings just blowed AMD out of the water, especially in pricing, the 13600k being a 320usd chip beating the 7700x in MT workloads by quite a margin, and the 13700k getting close or par to the 7900x while being quite noticeable cheaper and much easier to cool than the i9 13900k, and thats without tunning.
hybrid processors are the way in all honestly, especially with shrinking nodes, apple and intel are in the trend, and amd will hop in later just like intel is implementing 3D chips on meteor lake.
@@PCBuilderChannel Im trying to find pretty much the Aero D but with an optical port. Do you have a recommendation that is not over 400 dollars or is that my best bet with the Aero D?
*Corrections: 1) I refer to Z790 having a better memory "controller" but that term is incorrect. Z790 improvements are to trace/topology/shielding. 2) The ASRock Riptide Z690M has 2 M.2 slots, not 1. 3) Removed ITX recommendation due to an issue with that board, alternate linked in description.*

What's the best z790 board not the cheapest or price to performance just want to know which one is the best for the 13900 k don't matter the price
is the gigabytes z690 master better than asus rog strix-e? I mean the gigabyte are cheaper now
You put MSI z690 pro in ddr4 budget list but You've only discussed ddr5 version in the video. Is it the same deal or is something different about it?
Also is there a much difference between MSI z690 pro ddr4 and Gigabyte Gaming X Z690 DDR4 if they were the same price?
This is coming from someone who has been on this platform for a WHILE at this point,I had an i9-12900ks and now an i9-13900k and Raptor lake is still on the 1700 socket/the Z790 uses the 1700 socket as well, this is just something that needs to be thought about/talked about.
The real issue is,I think AMD is falling behind, YES they have 3D CPUs and MUCH better optimization, but their JUST getting DDR5 RAM and their JUST catching up at the end of a generation/the Meteor Lake platform/1851 socket,MAY come out SOON/the i9-14900ks, will most likely be released on the meteor lake platform/1851 socket.
I think this is something people NEED to be thinking about, IF your planning on investing in Raptor Lake/Z790 boards/the meteor lake platform/the 1851 socket MAY be right around the corner,if you ALREADY own an alder lake board/an i9-12900k/ks,go ahead and get an i9-13900k,I don't think thats a bad idea, but investing in Alder Lake/Raptor Lake, this late in its life cycle, isn't necessarily a great idea/again most likely the i9-14900ks,will not be on Raptor Lake/the 1,700 socket and it will be on the meteor lake platform/the 1851 socket.
To put this in prospective and I know this isn't the entire story/power/pin count isn't everything, but it does mean A LOT,more pins equals more power and more surface area, surface area allows for more cores and more pins allow you to power those cores/you won't have as many power restraints, this isn't the whole picture, but this is DEFINITELY something to think about, Kaby Lake, which came out in 2016 had 1,151 pins and AM4,that came out in 2016 had 1,331 pins,Alder Lake/Raptor Lake have 1,700 pins, AM5 has 1,718 pins and Meteor Lake has 1,851 pins, like I said pin count doesn't mean everything and it MAY be something AMD can work through with optimization, time will tell, but this is something that NEEDs to be brought up/at least looked at/observed.

Z690 Hero vs the Z790 Hero. Any major differences? Pairing it up with the i9-13900k and an RTX4080. The thunderbolt ports are important to me. You explain everything really well.

So glad we could help!
Hey great video! Do you think the i5-13600k can keep up with MSI B660-A PRO if im not interested in overclocking?
I'm seeing a lot of reviews on the gigabyte gaming x and the Aorus wifi board that says they have bad bios is it still the best option to go for? Great video btw!
Great video. Question on the z690 strix formula, does it still have problems running 4 sticks of ddr5?
For the audio portion, I used mobo audio for quite a while, but a few years ago I went back to using a dedicated SoundBlaster Z with the external headphone amp and a pair of Beyerdynamics DT 990 Pro (250 ohm) headphones. Not just for gaming, but also quality music listening sessions (M4A, FLAC, and CD's) and I'll never go back to onboard mobo audio again.
Hi PC Builder - Considering getting the ASUS PRIME Z790-A. Do you know if the light blue audio jack (normally line in rear panel) can be reconfigured as "Rear Speakers" in a 5.1 setup. According to the manual it says to use the pink front panel but that would be inconvenient - but in the manual for the Z790-P it says the light blue jack CAN be used for rear speakers, but for the Z790-A- it's different...
Thank you for this video Jason. Is there another micro ATX you’d recommend for the upcoming 13th generation Intel CPUs apart from the ASRock Z690M? Preferably DDR5.
Sadly the only good featured ones are really expensive. We do cover the Riptide Z690M in this video.
Not sure if I'm misunderstanding something, but I would like a clarification. If I have a mid level DDR5 memory, for example 6200Mhz CL36 DDR5; And hypothetically putting them on the same "model" motherboard such as Strix Z690-F and Strix Z790-F, will I theoretically get a better performance with Z790?
Or does this only apply to high end memory with speed rating above the marketed max Z690 memory? (6400mhz in this case)
Another great video. I'm learning a lot with this channel. Thanks, Jason!
Thanks Thomas!!
yo thx for this video! So I waited for this on the competing channels, so I sub to you now! I have the z690 Aorus Master gaming board. Is that one of the better boards for 13900 ? and what ram would you recommend for that ? hugs thanks so far!
Hello Jason, thank you for the great video. I have a question which board is better the gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX or the Gigabyte Z690 Master? Or the differences are between the boards. Ill be running a 13600k. Thank you
Exactly what I was waiting for 🙏. Thank you for another great informative video.

Thank you Richard! That feedback means a lot (:
I'm planning on using an I5 13600 with a Z690 motherboard paired with the Radeon 7900 xtx, when it's released.
I read that ASUS has updated their motherboards to support smart access memory for Radeon GPUs.
Do most Z690 motherboards, from other manufacturers, also support smart access memory, in addition to rebar? Is this an important feature I should be looking for and possibly go with an AMD CPU instead?
Excellent video as always! Will they be releasing more mATX D5 boards in the near future? Right now the options are super limited. Should I just go with an ITX?
Gigabyte has an Aorus Elite AX Z690M that has upgraded audio and looks good but not yet available in the US (possibly in other markets). Sometimes these boards never make it to the US. We will update in 2023 once Intel releases their locked 13th gen and B760, H770, H710 motherboards.
@@PCBuilderChannel Great to know! Thank you for the reply!
Great video, thank you very much. I love how comprehensive and easy to understand you made this.
So glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
You get straight to the point with all the important answer, no time wasted! Love it!
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching
@pcbuilder nah what you been on point lately with these videos this exactlywhat I needed 👏🏾👏🏾
Glad you liked it! :)
Great video. I immediately subscribed as you explained everything objectively and clearly with great recommendations. I'll be looking at other videos on your channel for sure.
One question: Which motherboard would you recommend with dual 4090, 13900k. The machine will be used for 3d animation and rendering and will be up and running 24X7.
I am thinking of getting an MSI pro z690-a ddr4 for the 13600k, but I keep reading conflicting things about what kind of USB drive you can use for the BIOS button Flash. Do you have any recommendations on what particular type of USB to use, 2.0, 3.0, and size recommendation? I see some people allude to different things mattering about the drive and no real clear direction. Thanks in advance
Thanks for the video. But just to confirm, in order to update the bios on a z690 board to use the new processors, I need an older alder lake processor, right? If you don't have one of those it might not be worth it over just getting a z790.
Also, I've noticed that most of the GB motherboards seem to not have the analog audio outputs to run my old (but still good) 5.1 speakers.
Alternatively if your motherboard features a "bios flashback" button on the I/O you simply load the bios containing the update onto a properly formatted USB stick and install the update while connected to a PSU. No CPU required.
@@cladinshadows99 ah ok, duh . . . I wasn't getting that bit. Thanks
Thanks for this vid! Currently have an i7-8700k with a RTX 3090 for playing triple-A games at 1440p 144hz. With black friday coming up the time seems right to upgrade the CPU. Was dreading having to buy new RAM, didn't even think about keeping my current DDR4. That should save some money. :)
same bro, which cpu ur playing to get and motherboard? for me i am looking for Z690 with a 13700k. Z690 because its DDR4 and my rams are DDR4. I dont think it's worth changing for DDR5 or prove me wrong =P
3090, triple A games on 1440/144hz? Absolute bs 😬
Any recommendations? i5-13600k is available on amazon so I'm looking to chip down on price- I initially wanted the **Asus Rog Strix Z690-a** but the **ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi ddr4 LGA 1700** seems well off as well.
The pc is intended for content creation/streaming and simply gaming/busy work. Starting to lean towards the **ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi ddr4 LGA 1700** but I don't entirely know what I'd be losing out by dropping the initial idea of the **Asus Rog Strix z690-a** (like Thunderbolt, if any). Any suggestions and thoughts would help alot.
This was exacty what I was looking for, you hit all the points. Cheers!
So glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
Thank you so much for explaining the differences between the chipsets on the market! I see a lot of Z690 boards that are half off of their z790 counterparts.
Hi, Jason. What do u think about EVGA Z690 plates? Classified and Kingpin?
Excellent video. I myself have only bought ASUS Motherboards for the last 30 years or so. Right now I have 4 of then and 3 are Strix ROG boards which is what I usually buy. But I decided just for fun to try a Z790 "TUF" a few weeks ago. Interesting that they had the Z790 board at the exact same price as the Z690 board. I also buy ASUS Strix ROG video cards too.
Hello, I'm planning to build a mini-itx build with an intel i7 13700k and trying to find a good motherboard for it. It seems like Gigabyte Z690I AORUS ULTRA had some issues and got recalled. Do you have any recommendations that matches the price of that board or would be close to it? I live in Europe. Thank you for the awesome video!
hi Jason, do we have any news on the 13100 or 13400? For me, they'd be great budget options as the 12th gen variants were already great
We won't get locked 13th gen until probably Q1 2023. Current rumors are that they are just rebranded 12th gen that have been binned higher. But we'll have to see. I expect Intel to announce them at CES in January (I will be there!)
this was literally the best video over, thank you for breaking it down so much its hard to find easy to udnerstand videos like this.
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching!
I've watched this video 3 times and learned something new each time. Either I'm an idiot or there is a ton of great info in here or both. Nice job!
You're not an idiot, he just talks fast and covers a lot of info in just a short amount of time.
So it's definitely not you
My main question is, is it possible to update bios without the cpu or with 13th gen cpu? I am planning to buy the z690 aorus elite ddr5 version, but i am afraid i wont be able to turn it on with 13th gen 13600kf processor. i've heard that you have to have 12th gen cpu in for it to give an option for update bios. But i've also heard that with q-flash its possible to update bios even without any cpu or gpu in the mobo. Can you clarify this for me please?
Very good informative video. Gave you sub !!
Thank you for the sub and welcome to the channel!
I stumbled across your video and although it's all really informative. I am still having trouble deciding, would you be able to give maybe 1 or 2 recommendations for me? I am upgrading from a 6700k to a 13th gen i7 which shows its been a while since Ive done my last build. I feel like the market has drastically changed and now it's all confusing to me. put it simply I am looking to upgrade to a 13th gen i7 and hope to have it last me for maybe the next 5+ years until my next upgrade. with a budget of maybe 250/260 at the most which mobo would you suggest? also ram wise will I be fine to stick with DDR4 or safer to go with DDR5 given my plans to not upgrade for another 5+ years? Thank you in advance for any help.
PS I should also mention I mainly use my desktop for gaming.
Literally same question but im looking for any answer, i sadly dont know if i get a mobo do i need to upgrade bios or what not, its making me super hesitant since this is my first pc and i have nothing prior and starting of with 13 gen cpu and looking for a compatible ddr4 wifi board
Jason you rock, thank you man!
excellent video :) Now... maybe I missed it, but..... does the Asus TUF z690-Plus D4 has Bios Flashback? Just bought the 13900k and digged into that! So I guess I'll have to update the bios with a 12900k inside, then switching it to the 13th gen cpu....? Well, thnks again ;) Cheers
Great video! 😊
Question should I be switching my 1070ti for something better since all the newer gpus have ray tracing and G-sync. ? Currently I just upgraded my cpu from a ryson 1700x to a i5 12600k. Right now my Monitor is plugged into the Asus prime Z690 P D4 so I am using the gpu driver from my cpu to help the 1070ti with some games (the game “Rust” for example). The problem is, if it is an problem 😂 that I can’t enable G-sync in the Nvidia settings. So I thought maybe I need to upgrade my gpu so i can enable G-sync and have ray tracing and better performance without stutter. Is it even reasonable to upgrade to a higher end gpu Nvidia/AMD?
Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean by using the iGPU to help in games. Typically if you select that it will use your iGPU instead of your 1070 Ti, not in addition to. Make sure your monitor is plugged into your monitor (use displayport if possible), select the 1070 Ti, and that should allow you to enable G-Sync (unless your monitor lacks it or Freesync which shows up as Gsync compatible). With the 12600K you can pretty much upgrade to the fastest GPU you'd like, great CPU. Hope all that helps!
Thanks for the reply, Just for clarifying I am using the power of the IGpu to power Wallpaper engine to have a nice smooth 60fps moving background. I thought that when you aren't in full screen in game (so in borderless window; which I use) that the background wallpaper also renders which makes my gaming performance tank. Which then my conclusion was that I will be using the IGpu for the sick wallpaper and the 1070ti for gaming (in that sense it helps the 1070ti does it not?)
The bottleneck would be the GPU then right?
Omg if i had only watched this video when i started looking into pc stuff! You are explaining everything casually along the way, and i had to watch ten thousand videos for the information you just say in 1 video. Great work!
Glad you found us! Thanks for the feedback it means a lot to us
Excellent info, man. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
Hello! What do you think about the Strix Z690-G Wifi paired with 13900KF and Trident Z5 6000Mhz CL36, no overclock intention for now. It has BIOS Flashback but the store already updated its BIOS. Bought this kit at a really nice price but still did not tested yet
Thank you for making this video! It was incredibly helpful!
So glad you enjoyed!
Hello, I've got a question: I look forward to buying a DDR5 Z690 board for an i7 13700k, and I saw that you mentioned the GIGABYTE UD DDR4 version and I found in my market the UD AX, which has DDR5, is it as good as the DDR4 version that you mentioned?
How good is the MSI Z690 edge motor? I never see you recommend it. Just wondering if it's just a cost thing or if it's just no good?
what do you think of the msi meg z590 ace is it a great mother board or what would you sagest
Thanks for the great video, well explained. I guess I'll take Gigabyte aorus elite ax 200$ with 13700k (gaming x is more expensive)
But don't pay too much attention to flashback, it's not too important. You can restore it with a flasher easily. And it doesn't brick too often.
Thanks so much for all this info, it was extremely helpful. May I ask which Z790 mobo you'd recommend for a i9-13900k w/ DDR5?
So glad it was helpful! If you want the best of the best check out the Rog Maximus linked in the description.
Oh lord, now I'm really confused 🤣🤣 essentially I've 3 certainties in my next build. 13700k/kf ddr4 and a 4090 that I already have. I'm doing my best to keep within a reasonable budget, will the lower/midrange board Z690 or Z790 sacrifice performance in Gaming/Streaming/Broadcast scenarios. I am involved in the iRacing realm of gaming/Sim and will do a bit of Microsoft Flight Sim stuff with VR also. Really enjoy your channel, learning a lot esp with the new gen stuff around right now.
Great review Jason. I am looking myself into Z790 AERO for my i7 K 13th gen, good price/quality/features in it. Thanks!
Good looking board.
Thank you so much for these digestible vids
Hey! What do you think of the ASRock Z790 PRO RS? Seems like the best deal for Canadians ATM!
I love your content, this is EXACTLY the kind of stuff I'm looking for.
Wonderful! So glad you are enjoying
Very informative vid, thanks!

hello i have a question maybe you can give me some advise .. can i game on a creator board? im planning to upgrade my system i want to do music production and gaming . im planning to get the i7 13700k and a 4070 ti . i would live to have native thunderbolt to avoid any problems with my pcie card . but idk how much difference is between a creator board and gaming board on power phases needed to do overclocking things like that. and maybe you can recommend some boards for the 13700k specially z790
Hello Pc builder.
Great channel, i have just subscribed
Can you please recommend me a good motherboard for an intel 12th gen i9-12900k? It's coming up to black Friday and i want to finish my PC build this year.
Thanks
Very informative video! I'm just a bit confused on actual Z790 recommendations - the only Z790 boards I can spot in your recommendations are the N7 Boards from NZXT (where you pay the colortheme premium), and the ASUS boards (where you pay the brand premium). Are there just no good non-specialty recommendations for solid Z790 boards right now?
Thank you! And yes, with current prices I am recommending Z690 for a vast majority of builders. That being said I did link some high end Z790 options in the description if you want to check those out.
@@PCBuilderChannel Awesome, thanks for you reply! That makes sense then. It seems like the differences between the "budget" chipsets and the "fully featured" ones are becoming smaller, and mostly boil down to PCIE Gen5...
With this crazy prices we need your price to performance recommendations more than ever. Im eagerly waiting for your best gaming build with the new gpu generation. Ive made some shops with your recommendations in mind and im so happy and grateful for your help.
Thanks so much for the awesome feedback! And yes we will builds and builds lists coming over the next couple of weeks. And in the meantime we have the return of the Boost My Build series coming next week!
Fantastic video.. thank you, Jason. My house fuse randomly trips every alternate day, I'm afraid of the sudden shutdown of the gaming pc.. Kindly advise on the wattage of a power backup, surge protector, So that The pc won't shut suddenly and I'll have time to reset the fuse... system is msi pro Z790 A with i5 13600k, asus tuf 4070 ti, corsair rme850 power supply. Estimated power draw 500-600 watts (excluding display) I'm confused between the ups rated 900w or 1000 w or 1500w. Leaning towards 900w based on budget.
Can you do a video on the EVGA 790 classified? I bought one on sale and don’t see many videos on it.
I actually got the Asrock Z690 Taichi for 300 last month on holiday sales. Really great quality motherboard at such a good value.
Awesome content, will you do a video focusing on Z790s motherboards, Thank you
awesome video, thank you sir
Bro, I loved this vid, you talk about everything we need to know and nothing that is useless, Ill be watching more of your stuff in the future. Also, thanks for all the info.
So glad you found the channel! Hope you keep enjoying the content
Finally someone actually talking about the audio differences of motherboards and not just saying "lol buy a DAC you peasant". Thank you for your detailed and awesome videos!
So glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
There's a bundle deal on Amazon right now for the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 & Intel Core i5-12600K at $480. I'm so tempted as I'm still on an i5-10600K. But I also really want the i5-13600K which would take it up to $530. I think for $50 more I'll be happier with the 13th gen CPU. And I'm keeping my great Corsair Dominator Platinum DD4 memory of course.
Crazy that I stumbled across this amazing video, subscribed now!
Glad you found us! Welcome to the channel!
Really great and informative video! Definitely found my price to performance motherboard I'll be purchasing once I can get ahold of a 13900k!
Thank you!
So glad it was helpful! Best wishes on your build!
ASUS ROG Strix "E" Wifi z790 DDR5 would be your best bet. It's about 459.00 and has all the high-end crap on it. You get the best of both worlds and you're not spending 700 to 800 on those high-end models.
