Great video Eric as usual, love the channel man.
I own the 5164R travel time and lucky enough to get one in March earlier this year at list price. It is without a doubt a lot nicer than the stainless steel version and is my most favourite watch in my collection. Don’t forget it is also much rarer in rose gold than stainless steel and has a lot more potential still to rise in value within the pre-owned market. I feel the stainless steel model has peaked in price pretty much in the pre-owned market

Thanks Eric. Wearing my 5164 right now. It is super comfortable and great for daily wear. It definitely is more substantial than a 5167, which I ended up selling. But the date wheel on the 5164 looks cool but is so hard to read compared to the date window on the 5167. The 5167 is a bargain, considering it has the identical movement to a 5711 Nautilus but costs half as much. But it is probably a bit too small and delicate looking for some people.

Great video! Almost 25k subscribers! Aquanaut is a watch that if you see someone wear one, you know he must has some other nice pieces. But i personally won’t pay that much extra on it. It’s like you want a Pepsi, but you cannot get it, so you buy a Explorer 2 instead. If you can choose from Nautilus or Aquanaut, you know which one you will choose.

    • @xxxxare
      @xxxxare 3 года назад +1

In my opinion one should always go for what you really want and not make compromises. Compared to the Nautilus the advantages of a 5164 to me are the clasp (except 5740), the easy to use complication, and that it is just not as recognizable on your wrist in public. And some people might just prefer the Exp 2 over a Pepsi for their reasons, too. I fully agree that you should never get a watch for the reason that you could not get the one you actually wanted in the first place. In terms of availability I am not sure these days if it would be so much easier to get a 5164 than any Nautilus model (at retail).

  • @zaza321

That little thickness on the case plus the elongated buttons on the side give it an extra flare to it.
In fact, it gives it a retro look from the 60's feel to it, something like a Hamilton. Eric, you are correct, that price is probably the only con close to $60,000.00 WOW !!. Thanks for the review.

ERIC, I enjoy all your videos. They are Very Miami.... Even though I am a great fan of PP.. I have a 3940J, 5035R, and a 5196R.( I Know, none of them are the VERY HOT WATCH). I don't pay EXTRA. The $20,000.00 over price I would spend on another amazing over looked PP. I travel extensively, so I started to look into the dual time function watch. I looked at the 5164 for the Dual Time. After many weeks of research and looking at Auction Records I pass on the 5164 (due to the over priced) and purchased last week a A Lange-Soehne Saxonia-dual-time. BTW I used the excuse of getting married to purchased the last watch. Truth is I am running out of excuses (birthday, New Year, Anniversary, Birth of a child now marriage) to buy a new watch... Enjoy your channel keep it up. Love to see one of US doing well....Giuseppe

I purchased a 5164r about two years ago for under list. It’s the best watch I’ve owned sports dress comfortability aesthetic dial everything. Out of everything 15305or meteorite gmt 5070s 3940j etc and this is what I wear use and love most. There’s a specialness to the rose I love, but steel is great worth every penny at the new retail and the only watch I’d pay a premium for and I’ve never paid over list for a modern production watch. It’s truly perfect. Thanks for the video! Please do the meteorite gmt next!!!

    Exactly on point as always.
I thought my “Holy Grail” was the 5711 but had the exact “Entry Level” reservations to the 5712.
Very recently I was fortunate enough to be able to try all the current Patek’s and it pained me to inform the sales clerk that I was very disappointed with both.
They both felt light and flimsy (terrible for even thinking that I know) however I quickly skipped onto both the 5168 and 5968. These 2 both felt superior to me. I was and still am caught between the weight of the White Gold of the 5168 and the complication of the 5968. I was struggling to get my head around paying nearly £5000 more for a stainless model.
I was so confused I went on an utter tangent a bought a 5524 in panic. Any help would be much appreciated 😂👍🏽

Good watch with good aftersales services, it was available a used one, so i bought it because of the easy functions and because of the criminals, most criminals dont look voor a orange strap sports watch... Better than a divers AP watch... Love for ya content... Ps. Its waterresistant from the outside and the inside... Swimming proof but i have no diving experience with it.. bless you brother

The 5164 is the best Patek sports watch. The travel time feature is so intuitive, it makes this the best GMT on the market. Rubber strap is very comfortable and under the radar for traveling. And, yes, you can swim with it! The date subdial texture is a miniature version of the main dial, so you get a dial within a dial effect. Much more interesting and pleasing to look at than the standard 5167. And compared to the 5711 and Rolex sports models, it’s not a chunk of metal on your wrist that can attract the wrong kind of attention. The 5164 just right - the Goldilocks of steel sports watches.

That's what bums me out about the Aquanaut or AP Royal Oak - sporty-type watches with crap for water resist. Especially living near the water you'd ideally like a watch that can handle in multiple environments. I do like the 5164 though.

  • @emersonc2136

The 5167 looking cleaner and simpler does look better for me. It’s an FU piece that tells everyone that you don’t mind paying top $ for it despite it being so simple looking. You don’t care what others think and that the most basic looking watch in your collection is a Patek.

  • @michaeld4137

No watch that comes with a rubber strap should cost 60K. Any watch that costs more than 5K should include 3 different straps leather, rubber, metal. All three should be included with every single purchase. There are only a couple brands that do this in the entire industry.

It IS easier to set the second time zone than on a Skydweller or GMT because they put two giant buttons on the case. The beauty of the Skydweller is that it has NO external buttons or pushers (ring command bezel & the crown) and the GMT uses only the crown.
I do like the presentation of how the Aquanaut displays the second time zone (and hides it when not needed).

Like i mentioned in a reply to another comment, YES, it’s “worth it.” Why? Because people are paying it. Retail price means absolutely NOTHING. It’s all about supply and demand. People are paying the price, so it’s worth it to those folks. Just because I personally wouldn’t pay it, because I have a large wrist and it would look small (my best fitting watch is a DSSD if that gives you an idea), doesn’t mean its not “worth it.” Eric, once again, a fantastic video. Production quality is second to none.
