  • Now that I've daily driven the Asus ROG Flow X13 (2023) RTX 4070 13-inch laptop, I can give my two cents on it. I'll list some of the positives and negatives I've found with it, and what I like and don't like about it. All in all, it's a very compact but powerful little 2-in-1 Ultrabook.

    Kudos for the elaborate "real life" review . I found you on reddit and I have to say we really appreciate a review that discusses real life use instead of just reviewing the technical aspects of the device in isolation of practical uses. No one ever talks about the limitations of the Flow X13 so people can see this and decide whether they're okay with these aspects or not.

      Thank you so much :)
      I think it's important to show its limitations, and let people decide whether those limitations are worth the price and form factor. That's the fun part about laptops, every model has its own ups and downs, and if price isnt a big limiting factor, there's alot of options and configurations to choose from

    I have been planning and preparing to buy this X13 for almost 3 years now and Im afraid to buy this 2023 version now that 2024 is coming very soon xD But I do think this is the best X13 version to date. I have been holding and waiting since the 2021 and 2022 versions but I am fixed on this x13 2023 now. I also had a year long debate with myself and my family and friends if I should go with the 16 inch and 13 inch but ultimately decided im going with the 13 incher bec of the tablet mode. I'll just connect the laptop to bigger screens in hotel room TVs etc... But yeah the main dilemma now is that I've spent so long saving for this laptop and Im quite ready for it now but im afraid a 2024 version will come out the moment I buy this xD
    I appreciate your video! You have no idea how much of a goldmine of information this is for me! My mission is almost complete! I will finally get my x13!!! Hopefully the perfect one! I appreciate all your detailed insights and this incredible review!

      I wouldnt wait for the 2024 refresh, since ryzen 8000 is basically a 7000 rebrand, nvidia wont be releasing rtx 5000 in 2024, and asus isnt remodelling the flow x13 after they just did it.
      So going for this years model should be great 👍🏻

      @@crimsontechytThank you so much for these insights. Very helpful! I think I will finally get it before Christmas! We only have the RTX 4050 version here in the Philippines (sad tho bec 4060 atleast would be 10-20% more powerful than the 4050) but I think based on your review that should be sufficient enough since I wont be able to maximize that 4070/4060 anyway unless I have more powerful power brick above 130w. hey great vid, im choosing between either this or the x16. do u think the extra 3 inches in screen size and probably the extra performance is worth? idk how this would be used as a tabletish laptop at 16 inches and idk the battery life. i would consider the z13 but that one doesn't have 32 gigs of ram. overall tho nice review and straight to the point

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you :)
      It's only really worth it if you want a bigger display. (And it is quite a lot bigger)
      The tablet function becomes pretty much useless at 16 inches though, since it's also heavier.
      The Flow Z13 does come with 32GB, but that's only on the "Acronym" edition, which is alot bulkier than the standard Z13, and has a permanent weird thick pattern/case on it which makes it pretty unwieldy to use (not to mention that it's not really a laptop, since it has to support itself with an extra stand).
      In short: If you like bigger laptops, get the X16

    The only conern that I have with this is the IPS screen. I wish they used a LED or the new mini LED panels. In your opinion, can this be considered a deal breaker? If not I'm absolutely going to get it.

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  6 месяцев назад +1

      It's a *VERY* good IPS panel. One of the best I've seen on a laptop. It gets very bright, has deep blacks, and has nice contrast (which is why i thought it was a mini LED display at first).
      I wouldn't worry about the display if you're on the edge of getting it, since that's one of its upsides :)

    US BestBuy store has $1299 version that doesn't have dGPU -- worse screen - but think it should have similar battery life or maybe more since the screen doesn't have to drive 1440p (its a 19200x1200 screen)

    Obviously it's a superb device.
    Currently I have an aero 15 Oled and I want to replace it.
    The x13 seems much more transportable and compact.

    • @crimsontechyt

      Hi, thanks for watching :)
      It's genuinely the best IPS screen I've had so far (which is why i was convinced it was a miniLED, like on the X16).
      A couple of my classmates were convinced it was an OLED, since it looked just as vibrant as their screens.
      It also doesnt have any IPS glow from what I can tell, so I really wouldnt worry about it not being an OLED :)

    Could be wrong: Have you heard of situations where people’s plug in devices on the XG usbc port got damaged/broken when you plug the charger on?
    I heard from a friend that when they plug in the charger, the voltage in the usbc xg port changes to compatible with the xg mobile and it can damages other devices

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  Месяц назад +1

      I had an issue with the first model i received: when I plugged in a device on the right usb-c port (the one with power delivery) while the XGm was connected, the device got a shock, and DIED. I had to test it a couple of times, and eventually it turned out to be a defective unit from the factory, so i just had bad luck.
      On this one it didnt have these issues, and i've never had problems since :)
      (It still sucked, since Asus customer support wouldn't help me with the broken peripheral devices at all, so they're pretty useless in that area)

      I pulled it out, since it really gets in the way just hanging there haha (you could always stick it back in though).

      Mainly for the better build quality, lower weight, smaller size, usb-c charging, and glossy display. The G14 also isnt available with anything higher than a 4060 in my country (and it's almost as expensive.
      These are the highest end specs you can find in a 13 inch laptop, so a top end ryzen 9 and 32gb are def high end if you ask me :)

      @@crimsontechyt Usb c charging is nice The device looks nice aswell, but for $1000, the macbook air m2 does just about anything a regular person could throw at it with ease and way better battery life, plus then you have over $1500 left for a game console, steamdeck, rog ally, even another laptop or desktop pc. Either way, enjoy! I would even consider one if it had the anime matrix of the G14s.

      If Macbooks had support for all programs, and had actual GPUs, they def would be the best devices around. But right now they are just unusable for anyone wanting to game or do enterprise work.
      The flow x13 is def expensive, but it does everything multiple devices can all in one, while staying small and compact. It's a luxury item for sure

      You do need to squint a bit or sit closer to the screen if you want to see further in bigger games. It's pretty hard to spot snipers in Battlefield 1 in those huge maps for example 🙃
      But for smaller games like counter-strike, its pretty manageable

      I use the Razer Deathadder V3 Pro myself, but only because I like the shape and switches.
      For a cheaper option, I'd go for the Steelseries Rival 3 Wireless. It's only like 30 bucks, and has very little input delay :)

      While the iGPU is pretty weak in gaming, the rest of the laptop is definitely worth 1200 AUD. I'd prefer the model with a GPU, but if you dont do much gaming, this one is a very nice option

    I have 2022 model its not that good. It overheats alot and while playing games in normal mode it shuts down on its own. Sometimes while booting it shutsdown. IDK what the problem is ...

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  29 дней назад

      That's def an overheating problem. Normally chips downclock themselves when they're too hot to prevent overheating, but there must be something wrong with your cooling system (or a defect), that prevents it from cooling even a downthrottled chip.
      Do you still have warranty on it?

    • @PranayVB
      @PranayVB 29 дней назад +1

      @@crimsontechyt nope. So basically my laptop had a blue screen error. I gave it to bestbuy they sent it to asus for repair under warranty. They had to factory reset it. But after that also this issue is there. If i do gaming i do it in tent mode only. But sometimes this booting issue still occurs! Now the warranty is also over. Did i receive a defective unit ?

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  29 дней назад

      It could very well be a defect, Asus doesn't have the best track record on warranty returns and RMA...
      The only thing you could try is to do a clean Windows install on it from a USB, and manually install all necessary drivers yourself.
      If that doesnt work, i'm afraid it's a defect
