    I'm actually curious about the top handles. I was wondering if any of the top handles included with these other camcorders can go onto the Sony AX700. Would there be any issue? Would the xlr inputs work at all? I purchased an AX700 after saving up for a while, and I'd definitely like a top handle like the other two with xlr inputs to make it easier to place my microphones, and do low shots.
    Thank you! Great video!

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  6 месяцев назад

      no, the only way to get XLR's into the AX700 is through the Sony XLR-K3M. There are no 1/4-20 taps, or any way to attach a handle, but you could rig something from below, I think but it would add bulk and. alittle weight to the whole thing. It would be easier to just buy a Sony Sony PXW-Z90V instead. You'd get the same AF performance and speed of AF as well as the handle and XLR's.

    Why are you shooting at such a thin DOF that we can't see the cameras for 90% of the video?

    • @simons2155
      @simons2155 2 года назад +7

      Agreed. Honestly this is a terrible trend that started in the past couple years ever since full frame cameras started coming out with articulating screens and DPAF. There are few creative situations that you should ever shoot with a DOF like this and a product demonstration is not one of them. Hopeful the obsession with bokeh will die out in a few years but with Apple releasing that stupid cinematic feature on their iPhone we might be just at the start of this.

      @@simons2155 this nonsense is already considered a marriage of shooting more and more. As for this video, you still need to consider what could not be enough sensitivity for a closed aperture

      @@csamd9049 I doubt the ISO is an issue here. I see some kind of key light umbrella in his glasses and even ignoring that the ISO can be raised pretty high without issue. He's obviously not shooting in the dark here.

      @csamd9049 2 года назад +1

      @@simons2155 to achieve a good picture here without a cloudy background, you need to reduce the F aperture to F11-12 if the FullFrame sensor and in such conditions, even with lighting, there are big problems, on FullFrame shooting with a nasty muddy background is obligatory and you cannot get rid of it in such conditions

    • @DanChanPiano
      @DanChanPiano 2 года назад +5

      I doubt any technicality is at issue, I think he was following the trend and opened as wide as his lens would allow. But, my god this is a product demo with the products defocused. Its not a portrait session. I could care less about him standing off of a blurred background and it was truly hard to watch the whole thing.

    Just finished watching your video and thank you for your thoughts. Please excuse all of the questions that I have on this one. I heard that the AX700 has been discontinued, but I can't find anywhere to confirm that. Do you know? I presently use the AX43 to take videos of trains that move between 5 mph 70 mph. I need to be able to use a shotgun microphone to cut out car/other noises behind me as I film the trains. I would like to stick with 4k and I like working with Sony video cameras because I like the AX43 (the inputs for the shotgun mic and the attachment to slow down the zoom aren't working and I'm not sure how much Sony would charge to fix those inputs). Should I try and have Sony fix the AX43 or just upgrade? Does the Z90V accept a shotgun mic and will it attach to a tripod? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day.

    Thanks I wish I'd seen this about a year ago. I work for a newspaper doing digital marketing (meaning I shoot stills and video for the paper). I do lots of news/sports stories for the paper and they bought a camera they thought was overkill but as I have found out not having a handle (seems simple right?) and not having XLR connection for mics (only 3.5mm input in the Canon Vixia HF G50 is a massive problem.
    I'm making it work but it's really not what they should have bought. For only about $200.00-300.00 I could have gotten that MC88 and had a MUCH better basis. We're only doing 1080p which as you mentioned is really good enough for Facebook posts and RUclips for most people.
    I'm not doing cinema work so 1080 is perfectly adequate for me.

    I have been using a Sony FDR-AX100 to record plays and concerts at our local school. Especially with the plays, I often find that I struggle with white balance, with people's faces being washed out by the lights, etc. I am an amateur, and I am not particularly in control of the lighting. Do you think that I might get better results with stepping up to a newer camera like the Sony PXW-Z90V, or could I solve my issues by studying my camera harder, color editing, or something else? I know this is probably a somewhat poor question, but I would appreciate your thoughts if you are still monitoring this video's comments. Thank you for the nice video!

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  11 месяцев назад +2

      Washed out faces on your AX100 are caused by not using manual exposure control. If you find this feature, you will be able to fix that problem right off. It is not a poor question, but rather an excellent one. It also means that you have found the limit of automatic exposure, and the next thing is to turn it off and start controlling your exposure without it. You are just growing as a shooter is all. This is to be commended.

    Pat perhaps you can help me with an odd HXR-MC88 problem. I use two of these with an ATEM mini pro to stream video of our church's worship services. The issue I have is that the LANC port on either camera does not seem to work. Oddly, if I plug an Sony RM-VPR1 into the Multiport I can control the lens zoom. Sony's support team has not helped solve this issue. They are sure a LANC controller will work. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks Pat for the presentation. Hope you can help me overcome a challenge that I am having. It relates to wireless transmission from the AX-700 with an external monitor attached, to an ATEM Mini Pro using a Nyrius Aries Pro. When I attach the transmitter to the monitor's output ( monitor's input is connected to the AX-700), there is no signal at the ATEM. When I connect the transmitter to the AX-700, it takes sometime to connect to the receiver, and then there is intermittent dropping of signal. I do not have that issue when the transmitter is connected to a Canon 90D. Thanks.

    It's time for a new camcorder and I think the AX700 is the way to go but need feedback please. I'm having a really tough time trying to figure out if any Sony model is worth the extra money versus the AX700. I don't need a handle and I don't need the SDI option. Everything seems to be built off the AX700 model whereas the grip setup of the HXR-NX80 doesn't seem to be worth the extra money, and I don't think the 5Ghz Wifi on the PXW-Z90 is worth the extra money (but as always I could be 100% wrong). I film live soccer games on a weekly basis, where the team then uses the film to breakdown and analyze the game. I typically set up the camcorder on a 10-20 foot tripod at center field. Image needs to be crisp, camcorder needs to adapt to cloudy and sunny days and night games under the lights, and on windy days the camera/tripod can shake a little regardless of the tripod being weighed or tethered down. Soccer can be quick paced at times and I need to be able to zoom when the ball/play is close to either end of the field. Any feedback/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

But I do put it on a 20 foot tripod at times to record sporting events. I asked if there is a way to turn the camcorder on and off either remotely or through some kind of wired device, and they said No. I suggested the camcorder's remote, the Sony app (Imaging Edge), and asked for a wired option. I prefer not to drop the tripod during halftime for example just to shut off the camera, so hoping there is a logical option.

    I can't justify the cost of the 4k upgrade. Yes you can crop without resolution degradation but with a quality lens, you should not need to crop. I also can't foresee 4k streaming for at least another 5 years. You would need a fiber connection in order to send the stream and the downstream users would need at least 50mb boradband download. Unless you live in a top 5 city (not even top 10) most people are not going to have access to that speed of internet. Our church has business class broadband and we still struggle to send 1080p 4.5m on some days.

This Panasonic is about $300 cheaper, has a larger zoom range, five-axis stabilization, a handy handgrip with audio (then it costs the same as the Sony) but a smaller sensor.
