Hey Cap, I was wondering if you guys would ever recreate the 1982 Beqaa valley air battle between Israel and Syria. In the battle, the Israelis destroyed around 85 Syrian aircraft while only having 2 F-15s damaged. It would be cool if you guys did a reenactment of it, or even a modern version where the 2020s Syrian air force tries to stop the 1982 Israeli attack or the 2020s Israeli and Syrian air force go up against each other.
That waving P-51 pilot is the late great Ray Hanna, former Red Arrows team leader in the Gnat days, and until his death the world's highest-time Spitfire pilot, usually flying his own MH434
I was at Goodwood cricket pitch when he dived in, dodging between trees and almost took the bails off before climbing out. The Alan DeCadenet clip is amazing too.
@@TheStormpilgrim it is a Welsh lullaby. For a child at war, all you want is rest and safety in your mother’s arms. That’s what the song represents and how the final scene ends in the movie.
It’s actually not his father, but the camp doctor that he assisted for a time helping the British and American prisoners. If you have not seen the movie, please do seek it out. I think it’s among Speilberg’s best.
Woohoo! I haven't seen old school Reapers for a long time! Creative takeoff, arbitrary collisions, blown engines, 90% casualty rates and Cap's hilarious comnentary. Just like the old days! Well done! 😂
p.s. Cap, it;s not 55 PSI , it's 55 inches of mercury. US aircraft measure boost in absolute inches of mercury, British ones measure boost in PSI over and above nominal atmospheric pressure. Zero boost in a Spitfire IX is the same manifold pressure as 29.9 inches in a P-51D
I was a little kid when my dad brought the vhs of this movie home and I knew then I was going to like ww2 movies. It was battle of the bulge after that.
@@Manu-rb6eo the really amazing thing about Tora! Tora! Tora! is the effort they went to make the movie look as realistic as possible. Some of the aircraft they modify to look like Japanese bombers and fighters are still flying airshow circuits today.
A little more detail to ponder. A very interesting read. 'Empire of the Sun is a 1984 novel by English writer J. G. Ballard; it was awarded the Guardian Fiction Prize, the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.[2] Like Ballard's earlier short story "The Dead Time" (published in the anthology Myths of the Near Future), it is essentially fiction but draws extensively on Ballard's experiences in World War II. The name of the novel is derived from the etymology of the name for Japan.' Wikipedia.
Cap, your comments about bombs ricocheting off the ground and hitting the aircraft reminded me of a thing that happened in the UK in WWII. While Barnes Wallace was developing the Upkeep mine for what would come to be known as Operation Chastise, the early test drops did not go well. The tests were carried out using a Wellington bomber, and on the first test, the spray of water kicked up when the mine hit the sea went so high that it badly damaged the tail of the Wellington. IIUC, the pilot did a damn fine job to get it home and land it.
Great reenactment Cap. I totally believed that you were Christian Bale's father flying by at 300mph at low level and saw a kid on a tower who just happened to have your eyes and you had time to throw back your canopy and give him a proper American salute because you knew you were his daddy and some day (2 movies later) you would totally meet up and both of you remember that moment. In all seriousness, good job on the video.
The pilot waving from the P-51 was Ray Hanna from New Zealand and he owned the P-51 imaged. He and his son Mark flew warbirds in airshows around the world, including a Messerschmitt. I was honoured to have met the both of them at the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow in 1992 (Central Otago, New Zealand).
Hey Cap, when you have a gear failure with a warbird, try inverting the aircraft and cycling the gear.....there are times the broken gear will fall into place if inverted.
Another Christian Bale movie, Rescue Dawn. Where Christian Bale players Dieter Dengler. Who was a refugee from Germany after WW2. Who serviced in the U.S.A.F. during the Vietnam War. Got shot down over Laos. In the movie during his captivity. Dieter tells a story. As a child in bombed out Germany. He watched a P-51 Mustang come in to straff, and as the pilot of the P-51 is on his way out. The pilot waves to young Dieter.
Following this successful film reenactment, how about some others? I was thinking of 633 squadron flying through all the flak, bombing the rock and then dogfighting with 109s/190s afterwards. This would be VERY Grim Reapers style!
Nice to see you're getting back to the classics. Modern jets are cool and all, but watching missiles getting fired back and forth across 100 miles tends to lose its thrill after a while.
So we add this kid on one of my ships, ET3 Battle. Little guy weighed like 110 lbs max wet. OF COURSE it was standard operating procedure whenever you saw the kid to say "Let me hear that Battle cry!". And he would let out a squeaky little "huuuhhhnnngh!" Not unlike Simba. Must be related.
I’m going to guess the AKs the troops were rocking were a bit more effective than the period-correct bolt-action Arisakas at informal supplementary AA. A lot of Mustangs sporting neat little 7.62 x 39 holes in their wings.
Why go to all of the trouble of cranking back the canopy when you can pull one simple lever and it is gone forever? Didn’t need that anyway. A scarf to flap in the breeze would have been a nice touch.
REQUEST -- After watching the YAK/Cessna v drones, Why not try something more inline with America realities and test OV-10 Broncos shooting down drones with the tail mount gun (Turrent?) over yemen or the sea? How would it do if there ere manpads in place in boats or on land?
I got an interasting idea for a mission how would a fully modernized Chines carrier group would fair against a flight of B 52 equipt with Mako Hypersonic missile
"six .50 cal breaks are the best breaks known to man" Ummmmmmm, 30MM rotary cannons are the best breaks? cap, Please. Please. Pleeeeeeeeeeeease can do a Pseudo-Scientific test of Cannon breaking?

We did a version here, quite a while ago: ruclips.net/video/gMh2ZJwy97Q/видео.html
That waving P-51 pilot is the late great Ray Hanna, former Red Arrows team leader in the Gnat days, and until his death the world's highest-time Spitfire pilot, usually flying his own MH434
Thanks!
Ray Hana was also flying the Spitfire in the low pass video that GR recreated a few years ago, one of the best GR videos ever
I was at Goodwood cricket pitch when he dived in, dodging between trees and almost took the bails off before climbing out.
The Alan DeCadenet clip is amazing too.
A few crashes, one wing, one wheel, knocking each other out of the sky.... Yep, I'm on the right channel. 😂
"Broken gear, best gear".
One of the best lines from Cap. 😊
It’s so kind of you guys to disassemble the aircraft before they’re shipped back home from the war
They were all Lend-Lease to the State of Texas anyway. If they hadn’t smashed them Texas would have had to buy them.
I come for the historical accuracy, but I stay for the milsim landings. Mission accomplished!
I love this movie. The song in Welsh stays with you.
Always wondered what that song was and what it had to do with the movie.
@@TheStormpilgrim it is a Welsh lullaby. For a child at war, all you want is rest and safety in your mother’s arms. That’s what the song represents and how the final scene ends in the movie.
All those low passes and she didn't even flinch :) ... also this is the last film where you could understand a word Christian Bale utters.
Fair comment...
I loved the bit where the young Christian Bale shouts "P-51.... Cadillac of the Sky" and his dad is shouting from below "get down from there".
It’s actually not his father, but the camp doctor that he assisted for a time helping the British and American prisoners. If you have not seen the movie, please do seek it out. I think it’s among Speilberg’s best.
Cadillacs of the sky turned into Pontiacs of the ground.

You gotta love the sound of those P51s flying by!
Steven Speilberg should definitely hire the Grim Reapers to save Cristian Bale.
Valued Mil-sim re-enactments found here.
We just like to keep thing realistic.

Ah right, thanks. Need to try to remember that.
I was a little kid when my dad brought the vhs of this movie home and I knew then I was going to like ww2 movies. It was battle of the bulge after that.
And Tora Tora Tora 😉
Battle of the bulge had inaccuracy but I liked it anyways it was really well done with these tanks

"We're still flying half a ship!!"
😂😂
Never seen a clipped wing Mustang before!

Absolutely loved this! Thank you Cap and GR! 😂
New GR motto: It will buff out!
That's always been the motto. That and " get another one..."
blancolirio say on tail draggers that you should fly the tail, not pin it down like you did with stick back on take off.

lol you really needed to add the WOW gif on this one. The takeoffs were priceless

Staying away from dark. Lmao
One of the great anti-war movies. I can hardly remember anything of the plot, but i remember feeling very hollow, soul-wise, watching it.
Sounds like it’s time for a rewatch!
Matrix can afford the beer with all the airshow cash cap.
If you ever make a shirt that has the GR logo and the phrase "...go and get another one..." I would buy it without hesitation!
This was great, keep up the good work!
Lovely classic GR.
23:48 i thought Gau-8 brakes were the best brakes
Also good brakes.

Great video
The waving pilot was ray hanna
Awesome I didn;t realise! thx
As usual, the Grim Reapers put Spielberg and his Hollywood special effects team to shame!
Why brake when you can break?
Thank yall for being cool as hell! All of ya.
Call me old fashioned but 50 ft above the ground sounds more possible than 50 ft below ground lol 😂
They might use a delay fuse of say 9 secs on those iron bombs so they dont blow up their own faces.
there is NO need to remind us that the mid 90's were 30 years ago!
GR Landings. Bondo, duck tape and it’ll buff out.
Following this successful film reenactment, how about some others? I was thinking of 633 squadron flying through all the flak, bombing the rock and then dogfighting with 109s/190s afterwards. This would be VERY Grim Reapers style!
I'll teach everyone how to fly the P51 real quick with some good old shock therapy!
Who needs ILM? The boys got this.
F-15E vs Y-Wing: Battle of the Bomb Trucks!
Nice to see you're getting back to the classics. Modern jets are cool and all, but watching missiles getting fired back and forth across 100 miles tends to lose its thrill after a while.
Should have had Suo Gan playing in the background....
20ft from the ground, pah, you could fit a Buccaneer underneath that on it's own bombing run.
Thanks again fellas!
Go on Reapers!!

Best landing since Wild Bill Kelso in the comedy classic 1941.....
There must be something from that movie you maniacs can reenact.
I’m going to guess the AKs the troops were rocking were a bit more effective than the period-correct bolt-action Arisakas at informal supplementary AA. A lot of Mustangs sporting neat little 7.62 x 39 holes in their wings.
that was wonderful to watch.
DAAAAARK!!!!🤣🤣🤣💥
Whats your vector Victor?
what's your Clearance Clarence
My god the sim looks good...was there a big leap in graphics in the last 8 months?
12:00 trailing seems to be the safest option.
"Make sexy eyes with Christian Bale"..Aaaaand demonetised! Matrix was right, much fun! Perfect "Mil-Sim" Sexy landings!
Zero damage done to the brand. Heroes everywhere.
Will your son look like Batman? 😂
Day 10 of asking Cap to bring humans back to carrier battles
You do know Cap that brilliant ideas are very rare right? 🤔
I wanna get the mustang but is there any servers like winding sidewinders anymore?
Why go to all of the trouble of cranking back the canopy when you can pull one simple lever and it is gone forever? Didn’t need that anyway. A scarf to flap in the breeze would have been a nice touch.
"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh". Just like that
Way to spoil the ending Cap… 😂
Whoops!

your son will look like a psychopath in 20 years time @1:40
funny as always 🤣
I got an interasting idea for a mission how would a fully modernized Chines carrier group would fair against a flight of B 52 equipt with Mako Hypersonic missile
Cool was a good movie
Does DCS have the A6 intruder?
I think you hit Jim
Made me laugh that
"six .50 cal breaks are the best breaks known to man"
Ummmmmmm, 30MM rotary cannons are the best breaks?
cap, Please.
Please.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeease
can do a Pseudo-Scientific test of Cannon breaking?
Brakes*
