I LOVE this card. Got it in March and I have almost 375,000 Marriott points. It has good Amex offers, too. Marriott is my preferred chain. I almost never stay anywhere else.🛌
Great review Seb! Also another takeaway for Lifetime Platinum Status, if you hold Brilliant and Business - within 15 years you will achieve Lifetime Plat without staying a single night at any Marriott properties 😅
Really gotta stop using Maldives and Bora Bora as the reasons to get this card. For most, those are once in a lifetime trip. You need to describe trips that people are likely to take regularly
Wife and I hit Seychelles back in summer of 2021 when things were first opening back up from pandemic. Seychelles is totally doable with points if you plan ahead, and no nearly as expensive as Maldives (from what I hear). I'm planning on hitting up Maldives probably early next year when we visit my wife's family in TH. If you plan on Seychelles, I wouldn't bother with the two main islands and would instead opt for La Digue. You can lounge and drink all day on the coast if you want. Or, if you're like me and prefer to do stuff, there's plenty of places to snorkel, boat tours and hiking around the island for nice coves that aren't readily accessible to most tourists, unless you hire a guide. Even then, you're doing some boulder hopping on the coast and need to wait for the tide to go out before hitting some of those places. Definitely worth it and the beaches are stunning. I'm not one for "beach trips", but La Digue is a place I'd visit again for a few days.
Used my 35K certificate at the W in Osaka earlier this year. I was also able to successfully use a SNA and was given their second largest suite which went for over $900 per night 🙌🏽
I was going to ask if there's availability in Japan and Europe. We typically stay in Marriott Residences in the US, but when we travel to EU we typically look for Airbnb's, unless there's a high value hotel that doesn't have a bathroom the size of a janitors closet. Asia definitely seems to be a better value in terms of hotels from the big brands. Also, are those free nights use it or lose it every year if you don't happen to use it? This was a great comment. Thank you for sharing!
You're not getting platinum status and the additional 10 nights the brilliant affords. Platinum is the bare minimum you should have before staying at Marriott.
@@911eVoXtrue but if you don’t have lifetime status or titanium status as a goal the extra nights won’t matter. The AF of the Ritz is cheaper by $200 and offer the same 85k cert plus the insane benefits AUs can get too. Plus downgrade path to no AF bonvoy bold through chase
Nice video 👍 I have this card and the Brilliant, they pair up nicely. I actually like Marriott points more than flexible points like Amex or chase, but flexible points are better than airline miles imo. You just get so much more bang for your points with hotels than airlines, which is why I even rank Marriott points higher than Amex points. At the end of the day, spending a week or two at awesome hotels or resorts makes a bigger impact on my vacation experience than a business class seat that takes away 2 or 3 nights at a cool hotel. BUT if I have enough points, I still get business class seats here and there 🤷♂️
Many hotel cards he reviews may suggest as keepers, but his dive into the economics and redemption values in terms of annual fee requirements should allow someone with the ability to think critically determine if a card is a "keeper" or not. Kind of like if you choose to keep a significant other or move onto someone that's less onerous/burdensome. His IHG and Hyatt reviews also are suggested as keepers, assuming you can utilize them, which I couldn't *on a regular basis*, therefore *I don't consider them keepers*, but if I lived/traveled regularly to much larger populated metros then I could consider them.
Hi Sebby, just to confirm, for Chase the rule is personal + business = max 30 elite nights... but for AMEX, the rule is personal + business = max 40 elite nights (Bonvoy Brilliant at 25 elite nights + Chase Bonvoy Business at 15 elite nights)... is this correct?
Not underratted for me! This card is amazing. This card and double counted elite nights got me to platinum by june and the special business rate is almost always the cheapest rate (usually comperable to prepaying). Marriott points are, sadly, not the best but my rule is to not exchange them unless I am getting at least 1.25 cents of value. With that rule at 21 points per dollar I am getting about 26% back between platinum bonus, 6x on the card and the normal points per stay.
I am almost Platinum Elite for life and I am currently Titanium Elite. I love Marriott Hotels and Resorts. The food is the best in the business and when travelling overseas, I always get a nice upgrade. That said, Hyatt is winning me over. No Resort Fees. No parking Fees. Upgrade certificates at the time of booking. High value per point. Guest of Honor. Globalist is hard to beat.
@@jimkwock324 I prefer Hyatt over Marriott, but Hyatt props near my area (midwest america) aren't the best, and I prefer the Marriott Residences to the comparable Hyatt property. However, when overseas Hyatt is next level compared to their US properties.
Thanks for the discount breakdown. I haven’t really seen that aspect in other reviews. I just got the boundless and i think I’ll get this in the future
I love this keeper card. Helps me maintain my Titanium status and the free night is worth more than the annual fee. 🛏 Do you think Amex will modify this card any time soon?
Would it make sense to have the Boundless personal Chase (1 free night a year) and also get the Bonvoy Business AmEx with the current 3 free night welcome bonus?
🛌I do want that Gold Status and only looked at the other Marriott didn't think about the business. Sounds like a keeper, but will probably hold off as I'm 4/24 right now, so need to hit up some of those Chase business cards before I move on.
I love this card, but it takes up one my 5 Amex spots I am allowed, and the Chase business is no longer available. I got my extra elite night earlier this year, but my elite nights are still lagging as I approach my 10yr mark as a Platinum member. Once I get that, I am probable going to get rid of the Aspire.
🛏️I have this card and I have an upcoming stay booked that’ll cover over 3x the AF. That plus gold status is better than nothing so keeper card for sure!

Do you recommend this card as my first amex personal or business card? Im not too familiar with amex rules and strategy, I've been focusing on chase for both personal and business. 🛌

🛏️Thank you for all this information! I actually have this card so it was nice to hear more about it and all the possibilities of things I can do with it!
🛏️ Great video. I need to explore more of the business cards to learn how to stack them with my Ritz personal which I got in December last year. For my honeymoon I cashed in points and stayed 5 nights at the Ritz Carlton in Maldives. Def an experience we will never forget. I was able to earn Platinum status for next year but am finding it harder and harder to hit that every year. This year will put me at Platinum or higher for 5 years and looking for a way to stack cards and get Platinum for another 5 years so I can earn a lifetime Platinum status. Any recommendations for that?
Why does your math not add up? Dont you need to multiple the retail price by 100 before dividing by the points? Im so confused because Ive seen online it explained like that but now I see your explanation and it doesn't add up. 1000 / 80000 is 0.0125 then multiple that by 100 you get the 1.25 cent per point not 0.8..
Main point is to find the likely value you're getting for your points to adjust for the multipliers. Most people's "ideal" is around 0.8 cents per point. You're right about the numbers on the screen though; error on my end.
One more benefit of having Amex brilliant and business cards is to reach the platinum lifetime status because it makes it easier to get to 600 nights in a lifetime over 10 years at least ❤
🛌 As someone who wants to go the Ritz Carlton card route, I'll be starting with the Boundless to eventually product change to the Ritz, but that'll lock me out of a bonus on the business card for 2 years. However, the Ritz + Business card combo could be really killer, not only for the free nights, but if you're trying to get enough elite nights for Platinum status as the Ritz only comes with Gold. Awesome breakdown here Sebby!
I’m curious on the answer to Rickstar question as I got the Ritz in December last year and would like to get a business card at some point to stack elite nights.
To my understanding, if you get the bonus on the Boundless card (or any Chase Marriott card), you have to wait 2 years before you're eligible for the bonus on an Amex Marriott card. So it doesn't necessarily have to do with the Ritz. @@MrRichstar89
