🛌 I work to towards Platinum or Titanium status annually and I'm also a Front Office Supervisor during the evening shift, so I've spent over 300 nights per year (staying or working) at Marriott properties over the past 6 years. Lots of good tips in the video. I would love to upgrade everyone, but it's just not possible. Only 15% of our hotel are upgraded rooms / suites, but about 75% of our nightly guests have Gold status or higher. We do our best and never leave an upgraded room unused. I apologize if you don't get upgraded, but I truly hope everyone enjoys their stay.
Forget upgrades. Bring back (quality) lounges and make benefits easy to understand (for staff!) and uniform. And do something with breakfast. Better yet, Go Hilton route and give F&B credit instead.
Titanium member for 7 years, so 3 years from lifetime platinum. Only benefit really is late checkout and lounge access at hotels that have this. The bonvoy program is too saturated with elite members to get much comp upgrades at check-in.
I’m lifetime platinum as well as titanium and I always get an upgrade I call ahead and ask, never been refused. The titanium is worth it for the suite upgrades at the ritz
@@bourbontraveler it’s unrealistic to expect that though and rare unless you are very aggressive in asking or making this a priority. I work in the industry and on any given day 40% of the guests in a Marriott hotel have gold or above status.
🛏️ Platinum with AMEX Bonvoy Brilliant. Best experience so far was a Free Upgrade to a Suite in Costa Rica (on a point redemption stay), with a handwritten note from Manager and local chocolate basket gift. The staff treated us like royalty. Used to be Hilton loyalist but after using Marriott for the past few years my allegiance is solidly Bonvoy. Additional note, we had stayed at a different Bonvoy property the previous night and they approved a 4 pm checkout at last minute without hesitation. The late checkout alone is why I consider the Bonvoy Brilliant card a keeper.
Titanium here! I start with +30 nights each year from two credit cards (personal +15 and business +15). I try to take advantage of the double nights promo that Marriott has been running Feb-April the last few years. I find that is a great way to get a big jumpstart towards status renewal.
My experience is when staying at US hotel chains they tend not to give elite upgrades to suites. However if you travel to Europe or Asia, I seem to be upgraded quite often. I have Hyatt Globalist, Marriott Titanium and Hilton Diamond and IHG Platinum.
🛏️ 1) platinum 8 years in, 481 nights. 2) best experience was an upgrade to the penthouse at the renaissance in Providence. It was basically an apartment. 3) we see the value in platinum as having nearly 15% back on our spend in points when using the brand cards. The lounges also save us a lot of money and we typically tend to spend the saving on nicer dinners and have breakfast and a lite lunch in the lounges. Ultimately we reallocate that spend to experiences to stretch the budget and experiences.
🛌I just stayed at the Sheraton Quito for 6 nights (2 one week and 4 the next week) using points. Knowing I'd be upgraded, I booked the cheapest-point room. I got a suite on the lounge floor which was open from 6 am-10pm, so ate all my meals there. The staff was terrific. I have done what you suggest: Amex Bonvoy Brilliant and Amex Bonvoy Biz. I also have the Chase Bonvoy for places that don't take Amex. I agree that generally, the lounges are better in Asia. I had booked the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay using my 85K annual award, which the Bonvoy service rep said had a lounge. I called the property directly to as the hours and was told they don't have a club! Now I know from you that none of the Ritz's have a club, so I canceled my rez and moved it to a different property. Thanks for all your useful info, delivered clearly!
I did stay at the Ritz Half Moon Bay recently to beat the heat and be coastside. My first Ritz experience and have to say it was a bit disappointing. Maybe I had a misconception about what staying at a Ritz would be like🤷🏽♂️ Im curious to compare with other Ritz properties and other top tier Marriott properties to see which offers the best service. Thats where my spend $$ will go!
11:03 late check is a game changer !! IMO that’s be best perk of any status. 🛌 ☀️. ( me waking up at noon ) 1- GOLD, wish Ritz gave Platinum 2- Late check out 3- guarantee 4pm late check out . 😂
🛌 I am lifetime Silver status. I have reached Gold status 2 times and will reach 3rd time this year. For me the best feature has been late checkout. I like to checkout between 12:30 and 1 PM instead of 11:00 AM. This allows me to explore and find a unique place to have breakfast away from the hotel. I would like to get up to lifetime Gold status for the added benefits (extra points, later checkout, welcome gifts, etc.).
Hi! Lifetime Titanium, upgraded to RitzC this year and am getting the B Boundless because of the welcome offer since I will be going to Bali again in March and using my nights and free 5th night award (not sure why no one mentions this perk,,,not as good as IHG, but still pretty darn good) Starting down the pass of getting 2 annual 85,000 nights and two 35,000 nights. I am already lifetime M Titanium so overkill here, but I think as I have shared before, I will be living in Asia 3-4 months a year in the future and this is a lifestyle aspiration. Next will be IHG and Ink Business Preferred.....waiting for the 120,000 point for the last to come back. Thanks for all of your advice Sebby! My top aspirational card is the JP Morgan Card, but this will never happen, but it would be cool!
🛏️ Ritz-Carlton in the first 17 seconds? 😮 I downgraded my Bonvoy Brilliant to a 2nd Bonvoy since the dining credit was too annoying when stacked with Amex Gold/Platinum, so now I’m only Marriott Gold instead of Marriott Platinum. I’ve never been upgraded at Marriott hotels in my life (few international stays), so the status has never really helped me much.
I only really care about guaranteed late checkout, which you only get with Platinum. Hyatt is the only other chain with that. Everyone else, like Hilton, gives that perk at management discretion, which for all practical purposes means never.
I'm Bonvoy Platinum but didn't get "guaranteed" late checkout. Bonvoy is terrible in US. Wish I never had status so that I wouldn't get aggravation and wasted time and energy on vacation from not getting "guaranteed" benefits.
Quick question have bonvoy boundless and was awarded certificates last year that I just used. Question I had was adding the Amex business Bonvoy but would want to know if the 24 months rule would disqualify me from getting the 5 free 50k nights
I am looking to get Marriott credit cards to help earn Marriott status. I see that the Bonvoy Premier (not open to new people) earns 1 elite night credit per $3,000 of spend and the Bonvoy Boundless earns 1 elite night credit per $5,000 of spend. Are these the only Marriott credit cards that earn elite night credits on spending? Assuming this is true, would a three card strategy of the Brilliant, Business and Boundless work? Brilliant (25 elite nights) + Business (15 elite nights) + Boundless ($175,000 spend = 35 elite nights) for a total of 75 elite nights and Titanium status?
🛏️(🛌 and extra bed?) Titanium Elite as of last year when I started a job with travel. My experience with status in Asia was hit or miss (Tokyo so that could be the reason). Personally I have a sweet spot for Ritz Carlton’s and plan to get the Ritz Card on my anniversary with Chase, although they are 50/50 with my status they are generally the nicest and most accommodating compared to others (except for Chicago they seemed very rude for some odd reason). Due to liking Marriotts better and the service be generally better than Hiltons I don’t plan to change at all. But this year and my future travel plans may make me shuffle some things around.
🛌 Gold Got a room upgrade at Ritz Key Biscayne I have chase Boundless card and Amex Bus platinum. But I think I have to wait 2 years before I can get another Bonvoy card
When you have 2 cards that give you elite status, do you automatically keep the higher status automatically? Say Amex platinum (gold elite marriot) and bonvoy boundless (silver elite marriot).
Do you have both the united and delta high-premium cards? Which one do you like the best, and which one have you had the best experience with when traveling internationally? also which hotel chain to you like the best, and have had the best experience? I am caught between which airline and chain and I want to focus my spending on right now, united and Chase vs Amex and delta. same with the Marriott and Hilton.
🛌 1. Platinum 2. 🤷🏻♂️ 3. Depends on how true the rumors starting to circulate that Chase is in talks to relaunch the Ritz and maybe the business card? Do you think it’s likely for Chase to do a relaunch?
I am already lifetime gold and this year is 9 of 10 for lifetime platinum (about 7 of those as Titanium Elite which I currently have and already got for next year) so I’ll max that lifetime platinum elite next year. I just signed up for the Boundless card so I can really stack those points. (I f’d up on a chase card when I was younger and they are just now letting me back into Chase after 13-14 years trying 😬) 🛏️
