Thank you for making this review for the M1 Pro. You're the only one doing this currently because almost all of the other reviewers are all doing the maxed-out M1 Max -- clearly not for the majority of its consumers. If you could do a gaming test, though! That would be awesome!!!
6:09 For everything other than HDR content the MacBook Pro’s display is limited to 500 nits, which is the same as the old MacBook Pro. Other laptops also get this bright. The Dell XPS 15 OLED is 500 nits and the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex goes is 600 nits.
1:52 I guess people are saying this because, despite being smaller, the form factor can be an issue depending of what is around and how close things are to the power socket (bed, sofa, etc...). They are not wrong. The big black charger is easier to plug anywhere.
Whoa! that's a thin MagSafe port, I think they are looking forward to using it for many years and making the Macbook thinner. The microphone sounds really great
I am web developer and code learner, little design, little editing, i choose 16 inches based model cause its more valuable than the same 14 inches 10cpu with more of everything
I just bought mine last week and got silver because it's so nostaglic! I can't get over how silent it is. I haven't heard the fan once. My 13 inch pro from 2019 was always getting warm or making all kinds of noise. I love this thing! x
I’m looking all over to confirm this as well. I bet the 500 nits looks better than most displays thanks to the deeper blacks, but it’s going to be a real bummer if SDR is limited to this. I’ll check out Rene Ritchie. Hopefully that person measured it for 100% confirmation.
I'm so excited to get mine! It's been in "processing" for 8 days now; I'm guessing another three weeks before it arrives. I got the same size/model/color as in this review. Looks gorgeous! Yay!
Great review. A question: If you hook a larger display up to this MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip thru one of the Thunderbolt 4 ports and use an adaptor for HDMI to a 102 Hz refresh rate capable large display, can you get the full 120 on the larger display that way? (In the review you mentioned using the HDMI port you could only use up to 60 Hz refresh on the larger display). Thanks.
@@arc9911 I thought the whole point was about getting rid of the need to carry around dongles with you! Many gadgets still use USB A. It'd be a shame to have to throw away a perfectly working gadget just because it's a few years old and your laptop doesn't have the necessary port. Furthermore, ethernet is typically faster than a Wi-Fi connection, as well as more secure and stable.
Would you recommend this version for content creators? I was thinking about getting the maxed out version for video editing - but wondering what you think of the m1 pro version in relation to the m1 max and if it's worth the upgrade?
The only thing 2.0 can't do that is relevant is it can't do a 4K monitor at 120 hz. You need 2.1 for that. But who really needs 4K at 120 hz? Maybe gamers, but good luck getting any graphics card anywhere to actually output that, even the M1 Max 32 Core. So the controversy is overblown. The 2.0 HDMI can output any 4K monitor at 60 hz which is the "normal" amount of hz for most monitors. I think a lot of people will prob just use the laptop screen though unless you really need that true 4K. Laptop screen with Pro Motion does go to 120 hz now.
I think that the Pro and Max chips have been designed some time ago (2 years?), which could very well be the reason for some of the specs being somewhat old, like Bluetooth 5.0, Wifi 6 and not Wifi 6e and SDXC. For other computers that use discrete chips for these functions, these chips have a shorter turn around time and can be brought to market faster.
As I Watch this Video, the 65w Charger of my Old Macbook Pro that is much Smaller than the New One in the Video, is Hanging from the Socket like it is about to Fall off any Second. 🤣
??? What are you taking about. Memory bandwidth doubled with M1 max. From 200gb per second to 400gb per second. The max also has better pro res video editing.
hey matt can you compare the m1 pro chip with dedicated gpu like a rtx 3060 or 3070, also can you run enginnering and architectural applications like solidworks, catia, sketchup and autocad if possible. i am a enginering student and a lot of people like me are into these softwares but just can buy macs cuz only windows supports them well and also runs them well

Please check what's the exact brightness in nits when not in HDR. Rene Ritchie says 500 nits which is the same as the previous models.
It's 1000 nits, plus peak 1600 nits for HDR contents. Hope that helped.
Double that but expect to reduce your eyes lifespan by half if you use 1000nits indoor

Not by Apple, as they bestowed this lovely review unit.
Good review, but M1 Pro vs M1 Max, you have 1/2 ProRes Codec.
Have you seen his main channel??????
Why none of the reviewers ever mention lack of USB A and Ethernet ports?
Probably because people use dongles for ethernet or just use wifi and USB A is kind of dying off for USB C.

Apple should give the M1 Max and Pro chip stickers instead of the apple logo.
dude that mic tho.
I really wanna know the speaker sound difference 14 vs 16 in
I think 16 inches definitely better because they have the room for speakers than 14. This is also my decision towards 16 inches
Is yours silver?
I'm waiting for mine. I just saw it in store, it's absolutely insane.
You got 12k multi on Geekbench 5 with the 16 core ?
