I am 4 episodes from watching "Vikings" for the second time. once every 6 months or so I have to have a fix. that also goes for the "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter" series. I am not a robot. The belt was inspiring! this is a project for the post Apocalypse times for sure. You are astonishing. Keep up the great work. I love your attitude as well. Lagatha's death broke my heart. OOPS!!! spoiler alert!!
I love it, mostly! Certain events did make me upset enough to stop watching for a while but I eventually finished watching them all. It was definitely better in the first half of the seasons IMO.
I'm not sure if you have talked about it. But I didn't see a dedicated video so I'll ask here. Can you do a video talking about different leather "types" and weights and their uses? It's probably the biggest worry for me before buying the leather to start a project because of the cost. Thank you.
He usually puts the leather weight in the plans - for heavier armour pieces its generally a 10-12oz Base with a 12-14oz Panels - it also depends if you are using for costuming or actual Rattan Combat in the SCA. Straps tend to be around 6oz, A Wallet tends to be 2-3oz because if you layer card pockets etc, it tends to get thick fast. Id highly recommend going to Leather Supply Store if you have one in the area and just feel what each thickness of leather feels like in terms of stiffness and pliability
It really is relaxing watching someone else bevel edges. Not sure why? but it is. This is another lovely finished piece that makes me want to do some detailed work for myself instead of plain leather Larp armour that I sell.
I got into leatherwork and knife & axe throwing over lockdown. Got pretty good at both and ready to tackle a larger project now. Thinking a belt like this could be a fun beginning to a throwing "battle belt" to hang many throwers at a time. Probably a bit silly but I like silly
Good looking belt, also enjoyed the narration. I’m looking the make a kidney belt for riding motorcycles. You’ve given me some good ideas. You sure make it look easy, if only it was that easy. Thank for sharing

I like your music, both the type/style and the level. And I love you are starting to add a bit of humor to the videos as well. Mostly that you are making fun with your "design features" but I also find that the general tone has become lighter.
И это очень здорово, что вы сохраняете и популяризируете культуру своих предков. Да, ты понимаешь, что мы - разные, но это - не плохо, это - интересно.
I like how you showed how you tooled it. But word of advice from a fellow leathersmith. Before using your edge tool, take ur leather and sand your edges first to get a cleaner smooth edge then use your edging tools to clean up the edges. If you use your edging tools first then sand the edges youll make more work on yourself for youll do edging twice for sanding will make a rolled rough edge then youll have to edge it again. Never use Saddle Soap on your leather it contains Turpentine and leeches out your dyes and stain leaving bleached spots in the leather. Saddle soap should only be used on military boots or dress shoes to remove any dirt or build up of wax polish before applying new wax polish. Just use beeswax, gum tragacanth or water to burnish your edges. But you should always burnish your edges after you stain or dyed your leather after you oiled it just before your ready to apply your leather finish sealer because somethings like saddle soap, beeswax or gum tragacanth has a natural or chemical resist in it and wont take the dye. Once I got ahead of myself and burnished my edges with gum tragacanth and had it all over my fingers, which it dryed on the leather belt I was making for a friend for their Ren belt. And when I went to dye it the gum stains from my fingers and hand caused this weird looking dye pattern that it almost looked like tiger strip pattern on the leather when it repelled the dye. Depending on what kind of dye your using especially water base or alcohol dyes using the water method before you dye works sometimes not all the time because sometimes the watering down technique causes the water or alcohol dye to bleed out like a water color where you dont want it to. Especially if your using the oil base dyes the water technique before you dye is useless for the water repels the oil and it wont take the oil base dye and your struggling to get the damn thing to dye which it wont. Then you have to wait until it dries before you can apply your oil base dye. And if your using alcohol or oil base dye you can use white distilled vinegar to help set the dye into the leather and remove any excess dye that hasnt absorbed into your leather before you oil the leather and you seal it. If you ever need to clean and condition your leather only use Murphys Oil Soap which has all natural ingredients like citrus etc, mild Ivory dish soap which has no harsh chemicals or Lexol cleaner and conditioner to clean and condition your leather.

The work is incredible I just don't understand the amount of labor, how can you find customers. 2 hours of labor 10 hours of labor? The sale price must be enormous? How many Viking belts is the public calling for?
How would you go about making a lifting belt? Are you familiar with those and have you ever looked into it? I was looking at it recently and it seems like I'd have to slap 2 or 3 pieces of leather together to achieve the right thickness. Thoughts?
Not necessarily, could use saddle skirting. But I guess lots of them are lined. I'd just use skirting myself and if I wanted to line it, not sure if I do, I'd just sew something nice and thinner to the inside.
Hey Magnus, love the videos! Very informative and awesome work. Question for you; where do you get the rivets you are using? I like the ones you have in this video a lot and would love to get some for my future projects. Thanks again!

What type of dye pen are you using? The one I picked up a while back bled around the seal and made me not desire to use them again

Tolkien was also inspired and influenced by World War 1.
Is there a way dye the background color more evenly so there’s no streaks or is that intentional?
If you just dye it more and give it a more saturated coat it will be more even. Also wetting it before hand can often help with streaking I find.
What are you using for your working surface when you're cutting/punching? Some kind of cutting board material UHMWPE?
It's literally cutting board material,³/⁸ I think
