I'm pretty sure not everyone is in need of some viking jewelry but hopefully some of you find it useful. Can anyone think of any other companies I may want to look into partnering with? This one was a no brainer. Happy Crafting!
Grimfrost? They have some jewelry
@@KatyaKnightwolf exactly who I'd have mentioned. Also drinking horns. Magnus could do a custom belt holster for a horn.
I see many uses for round boxes ,thank you for the up load
Maybe some axe sheaths for various companies. Two hawks makes some badass traditional Viking style tomahawks and friction fit axes. Also axe girders would be cool with some carving and stitching
I’m going to ask around. I live in the Bywater section of New Orleans. Thanks for your videos and I hope you do well.
Love that box and the wolf. Don't doubt yourself that looks amazing. Great job on the wolf. The box is beautiful.
I really enjoyed watching you process for the art. I struggle with art and especially something that fits a knotwork style. I'd love to see a video of your thought processes when you come up with new pieces. :)
The wolf design is EPIC!!!!
I'm so grateful for your videos (been following for a while). I love Celtic and Nordic art and your projects are varied and interesting. I need to really dive in and do some bigger projects; get out of this beginner phase. Thank you for all the videos!
Inking also helps you clean up the lines too. I love the textured lines you put on your work.
The wolf looks great! So does the whole project awesome work brother man!!🤙🤙
Thanks 👍
I have had to use Ziplok bags a couple of times with larger detailed pieces and it generally works well to keep your leather from drying out. One caveat is that if you leave it sealed for too long it can develop mold or mildew. One piece that took a total of 60 hours to complete I had to keep in a trash bag for a few days. But yeah, it works well enough. Best bet for beginners is to work with pieces you can finish carving and tooling in one sitting. Projects with more than one piece can be good for that, as each piece may be tackled at a time. Like this box, for example. Great video man, thanks!
I've just recently started watching you're videos, and now, after just a short time, I am always looking forward to new videos! Keep up the good work, Magnus
Looks wonderful. Great wolf design.
Excellent vid.
Clear instruction/guidance. I think, even the folk new to working with leather would get a lot out of this vid.
(I also thought the artwork was cool - not “overworked”)
Pretty sure I’ll be directing folk to watch and learn from your channel.
I made this box for my husband for his birthday, and despite being measure and cutting challenged, it turned out pretty good. He's going to use it for his bow nocking things. I carved a heart design (Tandy plastic template) on the lid. The template was perfect....my skills - still working on it.
I love this project.
Nicework friends !!
Thanks!!
Sir that is stunning and thank you for the inspiration to try leather working , only made a phone case so far but you have made the process so much easier to understand.... again thank you for your videos
Happy you're enjoying the videos.
Man you have some amazing ideas. Thanks for sharing - I can't wait to try this with some of your carving patterns!
Thanks for sharing these amazing videos I am learning so much.
As usual on your videos.. .INCREDIBLE!
Congrats for your work, It inspiring me to start some leather works.
Dope box!
Very nice
wow that looke amazing! thank you from brazil
Bought the pattern thinking this was about half the size it really is. Man, this is cool as hell. Thanks for the pattern, looking forward to getting this put together.
That turned out fantastic ,well made ,I have a set of wing dividers and one has a blade attachment that I use to cut my circles ,there's no name on them so I can't say what brand ,I bought them in an Amish antique shop
This can be dam handy in a big bunch of places thank You.
That... is... badass...
Dude! That's freaking awesome!!
I like your Videos and it's more Inspirational to me to see that someone isn't perfect like not perfect Circles and still building/ learning how to do things like sketching that Wolf , for me if i was to watch someone who came off as to never make mistakes then i'd be more Nervous to attempt to get started i think your work is AWESOME 100 % i am just starting out with my Leather work so Great to see someone who i get get inspired to work .... Thanks
It’s funny I’ve had people that are friends of mine think it is a bad idea to show my mistakes but I think it’s incredibly important especially when you’re trying to inspire people to work on their own projects It can be a little daunting at times.
Can these techniques work if you wanted to make a rectangle type box?
And if so, what could’ve used for some rigidity - as make it not like, say, a collapsable top hat, if you know what I mean.
Very cool, thanks...
your viking wolf artwork is fly bro! keep it up!
That's beautiful.
very nicely done that would perfect for my jewelry as well Especially since it has a Wolf on it since I'm a Wolf fanatic
Nice piece. 😁 👍👍
Great project. As far as the top expanding due to the tooling, I have seen people put packaging tape on the back before tooling to stop stretching. I havn't tried it myself, but it may be worth investigating. All the best. T
That turned out great and appeared "Period Correct" if you think about it. A+++
Great project, can’t wait to start my own
Have you tried and angled blade on your swivel knife? You don't get as many over cuts.
This was amazing leatherwork was a skill i learned from a teacher in jr high. Haven't used it since . but to my point almost expelled for making a dip can case more native American aspect to the wolf design.
IN A PREVIOUS LVE YOU MUST HAVE BEEN A BERSERKER LOL ..BEAUTIFUL JOB BRAVO
That is really Frickin cool. Thanx
So very beautiful work ..love watching your videos and how you inspire me. I'm still a newbabie to work with leather but learning .😊😊 I have so far just bought leather jackets from second hand shops and made some books from scratsh..bookbinding ..dying paper and the best part the leathercover 😍 Some advise from you ..wich leather is best for bookcover and making havresack??
So many options for leather. I wouldn't know what to say for best exactly
Do you have a special swivelknife? Yours leaves such a beautiful deep groove. The ones I've seen online are like thin blades and leave more of a cut instead of a groove. Are there different kinds?
The filigree here I use all the time. www.amazon.com/shop/darkhorseworkshop/list/YPJOGHYA7PDF?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m
CARVING? GENIO!!!
Have you looked into a beam compass? I imagine with a little modification they can be used to cut circles.
I would love to see some drawing tutorials where you go through your thougt process on them!
Herbs and spices as well?
love it!
any tips for getting a better result with the roller engraver? mine comes out very light
They're fairly light in general, just need to fiddle with the saturation and press firm
Wow that is beautiful work man have done any other shaped leather box's such as a hexagonal shape or so on?
Not yet, will eventually.
Stumbled upon your chan and didn't realize I saw you at Astoria and Hindenburg :O Nice work!
What kind of finish do you use with the spray?
Um so...no stitching together the box top pieces? Will that hold well?
Sure unless you use it as a frisbee.
If you want you can look up a box stitch and do that to the top
hey, thanks for the videos they are awesome I cant seem to find the roller stamp you use here and I really would like to have something at least similar do you or someone know a link to buy this?
The image is wrong, but the item number is correct so who knows what's up. But this is in theory the same stamp right here if it goes by the name and stock number: amzn.to/3uL8LDq
You'll need the embossing handle as well, haven't been able to find that on amazon yet.
There's this one, prroooobably works? amzn.to/3yE2MBp
thank you so much you are awesome
Wow so Awesome ❣️❣️❣️✨🌟✨🌟💫
LOOOOVVVVEE IT
My man great video as always. I had a quick question I wanted to get your input on. Do you think the glue is good enough to hold this long term, or would it be worth box stitching the top and bottom rounds into place?
Well, given that it's a box and not a baseball or a punching bag I think it should hold just fine. Glues are period, and when done properly are damn tough.
@@DarkHorseWorkshop I get that, but it is called a box stitch for a reason. The baseball stitch is totally different from the box stitch. But I appreciate your reply.
@@MichaelMaysLeatherworks Oh ya for sure, me saying baseball just meant it's not something that's being fired around like crazy and abused. I'm sure the glue will hold just fine.
Hell I prototyped this all before I built it so I could just abuse the original prototype top part and see what happens. Haha
@@DarkHorseWorkshop oh no man that's awesome. I look to build one and just wanted to see what your thoughts on it were
Wait hold the phone, 0:43 I know those items. You’re epic workshop?? I had no idea!
Nope just Dark Horse. Epic is different than me.
Plz tell us what is kind of colour
Not sure what you mean specifically.
Interesting
What leather did u use
Vegetable tan
So quick question. I've seen you spray on a resist before putting on antiquing gel. What does the resist achieve?
It puts a coat on the leather to protect it from being stained. This will allow the gel to get in the cracks and give your leather tooling more contrast.
@@DarkHorseWorkshop that makes sense. So do you put a sealing coat on last to keep the antique from rubbing off?
@@swatcopk9 Ya, probably for the best. Depends on the project for me but usually.
Magnus, why are you using a diamond punch?
Beeeecaaauuuuuuuse
did i miss a link to the print roller?
It's been a while since I've watched this video, could you link a timestamp with what you mean.
@@DarkHorseWorkshop I presume jcoxe means the embossing roller at around 7:20 - I am just waiting on the one I ordered from Tandy to arrive, I already had their basic pricking tool with interchangeable wheels and it turns out that they supply rollers which fit the same handle, which is great for me. If mine arrives today I shall be able to hopefully complete my box this weekend. I have the pieces all cut, the artwork is done apart from those borders. Loving your site and videos BTW, I started with your drawstring pouch (and have made four already) and the box is my next project. Keep up the awesome tutorials, your 'it's not perfect, just do it and get on with things' style is the way I like to work myself, great job.
このローラー型の打刻工具は手作りかな?
Is leather weld just pva glue?
Hilariously pretty much yes.
u right, carving extend the size , that's why the round piece doesnt match with the strip.
Great!🤪🤪👍🏻
How thick is the leather typicly? And what does it mean that it is veggitan? Im a noob yess but we all start somewhere :D
6 to 8 oz, vegitan makes it carvable and dyable.
Dope!
In my workshop, when I put on ma leather, and rock to sum Metallica, Delta Parole, Foo Fighters or the Smashing Pumpkins I feel like I can do anything in the whole wide world.
And here i was wondering how you would secure the bottom to the sides... turns out you don't, just glued, no stitching.
What is that first took called?
Took?
@@DarkHorseWorkshop thanks for the reply! I realized my q was very nondescript.
The tool I meant to ask about was the tool that you used to cut the strips like 1:26 In the vid.
Thanks again, hope u had a wonderful holiday and have a great weekend.
I cant find your etsy store :(

i dont thing that glue its going to last for long
If you're using the box for ultimate frizbee, certainly not. If you're using it as a box it will last a lifetime.
ME: I really want to make those cool Celtic knot things for a leather thing I wanna make for my friend, but it'll take forever to do and be a major pain in the ass!
DUDE: - fucking pulls out some wheely, spinny, stamping tool that creates a whole line of them in nano seconds -
ME: HOLLLLLLLYYYY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!
Surely we can create art without having to slaughter animals
Indeed, there's tons of it out there, seek it out.
