Happened to me for Twitter recently. Apparently that account was tied to an email I didn't even remember I had, much less know the password for, and none of my previously old passwords worked to log into the email account.
Who doesn't use the same email account all the time? I have 3. Live account for obvious reasons, and two Gmail accounts for different things. And you have extra security and back up methods. Although I can understand if you are a person that for some reason thinks they should use their ISP email account... Just keep the same one for years to come and you will be fine!

My job used to have this issue, we used Microsoft, and while Microsoft let's you customize password requirements, it doesn't let you customize the login/password change page that shows what the password requirements are so people are just screwed, because it won't tell them the requirements. Microsoft refuses to fix this. We eventually just gave up and made our own SSO system.

The time-keeping system at my work does this every 30 days. The geniuses who set up the user interface decided that the PW needs to be updated every 30 days. But when you try to log in, instead of saying that, they thought it would be funny to just tell you your password is incorrect. So then you get to experience this once a month

By "last password" I think it just refers to any previous password you've had. Most websites won't let you use a password the same or similar to one you've used before.

That's actually a surprisingly better error message then most. Most just claim it "can't be the same as the previous password" rather than it "any previous password". A lot of time I've seen users change their password to something, and forgot they did that, and still remember the old password, but then when they try to update it they get the "can't be the same as your previous password" error, because they tried to set it to the old password, but the system really means it can't be a password they've ever used before and keeps a database of all the passwords they've ever used.

I've had that happen and the only reason I can guess it happens is that the thing can sense a copy-paste function used and will only allow it when the code is typed individually as it was originally typed.

His deadly mistake was using the old password. Whenever I forget mine I come up with something entirely new to avoid this. And it's easier to remember if it relates to the agony this situation caused me. Smth like "WhyG0dwhy" or "F***you[websitename]" or "bruhhhh~" make it emotional.
Some people are scared that robots will take over, but this proves that it won't be happening anytime soon, or ever LOL

By "last password" I think it just refers to any previous password you've had. Most websites won't let you use a password the same or similar to one you've used before.

The worst is “new password can’t be a previous password.”
That's actually a surprisingly better error message then most. Most just claim it "can't be the same as the previous password" rather than it "any previous password". A lot of time I've seen users change their password to something, and forgot they did that, and still remember the old password, but then when they try to update it they get the "can't be the same as your previous password" error, because they tried to set it to the old password, but the system really means it can't be a password they've ever used before and keeps a database of all the passwords they've ever used.

That feeling when you literally copy paste the password out of notepad where you saved it and it's somehow the wrong password despite the fact you pasted the same thing making the account.
I've had that happen and the only reason I can guess it happens is that the thing can sense a copy-paste function used and will only allow it when the code is typed individually as it was originally typed.
@riser Probably. Of course, they could solve that by having the option to see the password you're typing though so you'll catch any extra characters that show up. I don't know why more don't do that.
@riser And you know how in old windows command prompt if you pasted something from a notepad file, it would just paste that box character? Some old websites do be that outdated sometimes too.
