My favorite Dreamworks movie is the HTTYD franchise. The HTTYD frachise is one of my favorite movies over all.
It's very hard between Prince of Egypt and the first How to train your dragon
both are fantastic and honest but i have to go with the better animation so HTTYD for me

Well, it is a movie in part about Vikings : )
I'm hoping this is just his new thing. A guy in my office started wearing scarves like a couple months ago, maybe Spencer is just walking around armed now. I'm not convinced they're not just squatting in this office anymore, so maybe he's just preparing for the inevitable police raid to force them out.
Dragons as cats? Slit pupils, lay around all day, collect shiny things, gets angry with someone taking their stuff? Checks out.

Fun Fact, Joe; as a Scot myself, I feel compelled to mention that the Vikings invaded and colonised the north of Scotland extensively in the 9th-11th centuries, so maybe some of them did sound Scottish?
The Orkneys were Pictish, "viking" colonisation made them Norwegian, later they were gifted the to the Scottish Crown. Prior to that vikings of the Orkneys took control of the Hebrides from the Irish/Gaels. So far as I know only the western peninsulas of the western mainland around the Isle of Arran were colonised by vikings.
Danish Vikings settled on the British Isles, but I feel compelled to stress that they didn't colonize. Rather, they "moved in" and started living among the people that already lived there. We can see traces of this in the English language, where many everyday words are loanwords from Old Norse (the Germanic language that the Vikings spoke, from which Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Faroese, and Icelandic is developed). Some examples (though there are many) are the words "sister", which comes from Old Norse "syster" and "are" which comes from "är". This indicates that the Vikings had equal status, and didn't have political control over the British/Scottish in the same way that, for example, the French later had. However, I do agree that the Vikings were probably influenced by the English language in the same way, so I don't think it's that big of a leap to have them sound Scottish.
@@sofiatypes8977 I used 'colonized' rather euphemistically here to simplify my point, and I'll happily concede that you clearly have more knowledge in certain areas of this than I do; what I'd picked up was just from light research and journeying around the Scottish countryside and seeing the linger remnants of the Norse Settlers.

There’s a lot (or at least more) character development for Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Snoutlout, and Fishlegs in the TV series’ (which are really good by the way!) though I admit without seeing it the movies don’t give them much time at all.
That last episode though... You can tell they're scrambling to match up to the movie.

The camera is not aligned straight. It makes it look like everyone is gonna slide downwards from the left of the screen to the right of the screen, towards Dan.
I love Joe and his wife for loving those movies!

I will speak up on behalf of Legend of the Seeker! That show is absolutely the best dumb fun, weekly quest fantasy shows and we deserved at least 3 seasons!
Canonically, the Swedish Chef actually speaks Mock-Swedish.
But if you're looking for real Scandinavian accent, check out Norsemen on Netflix. They are actually Norwegian, but it's pretty close and the show is real funny too!
Where was Stardust on that fantasy list? That movie was legit
fangal12 Apparently too obscure to count? That’s unfortunate, it’s an underrated film. Though I hated the first few minutes of Stardust (it gives away the entire plot and destroys any mystery), I so enjoyed the rest of it!
I hated Stardust with a passion. Bought it years ago from a bargain bin. We dusted it off to show my kids without telling them anything about it. They hated it too. Couldn't even finish watching. It's a streaming pile of crap.
@@iaian7 Me too. I almost turned it off in the first 10-15 minutes. The acting and story seemed very awkward at first but once it started going I loved it.

You know what, Kit Harrington speaks in like , 2 scenes in How to train your dragon 3 (I’ve seen it ‘cause I’m from Latin America, sorry guys 🤗) but because of that they made a promotional video with him and Toothless and IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 🤷🏽♀️
The Brett Kavanaugh and TJ Miller jokes were perfect. Honest Trailers gets the views, but Honest Trailer Commentaries is absolutely appointment viewing for me.

Relax people. They were joking. If you keep shutting down every little inside joke and random accents then you kill the riffing we love them for. Remember they stopped the whole “Roth” being a spy for one negative email.

Nope but when I hear obvious Spanish accents from RUclips members who I know care about their community and actually care about people’s opinions. I give them a pass. If you know these guys then you know they didn’t do it to outwardly insult people.
I know I've been asking for this for a while now, a few years actually, and I just wanted to honestly say thank you. (Not that you did this because I've asked for it) You did a wonderful job and these films are hard cause they're so good that its had to make comedy about of them. You did a great job without pocking holes and thank you again! You guys rock!
Tobin, Squi, and calendar jokes should be in every Honest Trailers Commentary from now on.
You guys are GREAT at impressions. This was one of the most fun episodes you've ever done...and I'm not a particularly big fan of the Dragon Training flicks, so way to make this a great time.
How to train your dragon? Use "Dragonrend" shout to make it land first. Then use "Bend Will" shout.
Joe's laughing fit @ 8:52 to 8:56 was absolutely everything to me. He was peak Joe today and absolutely delicious to look at (I mean that smile is just WOW!).
Loved hidden world, perfect ending, amazing animation, great relationship stories...
I just love it when the guys have fun and riff off jokes and do so many voices! I really enjoyed this episode.

I want nothing more than to erase that movie from my memory. My first and only movie I've ever seriously contemplated walking out of. I can't explain how much I despise that that movie exists.
@@cameronkelley1268 never saw it in theaters rented a long time ago from a library and it took me 3 attempts; off watching it getting sick of it and turning it off, just to get to the dragon and although the dragon amazing her dialogue was the last straw for me (I liked how she sounded not the things she said) it took all the joy I had reading the books knowing that both Eragon and Saphira needed experience to both grow and not just "oh i'm a new born dragon and let me tell you everything you need to know about the world and the people in it." Fuck that movie.

I was rolling off my chair at 8:00. I would totally see a movie starring Swedish Viking dads who do nothing but lament their children’s lack of interest in eating meatballs and assembling furniture.

The Swedish title of the movies is "Draktränaren" which translates to "The Dragon Trainer", which I guess is a little more accurate, at least to the second film. Also, most Scandinavians are great English speakers, and we don't have that much of an accent at all... Or rather, we speak with American or British accents - or a mix of both. Also, not offended, just happy to be mentioned :)

Thanks for the Honest Trailer (or Trailers I should say) for How to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2. I really you hope you guys are gonna enjoy How to Train Your Dragon 3. I've watched it a month ago, and I can say I really enjoyed the third one. It's a compilation of what you love about the previous two movies: sick action, sweeping visuals and more heartfelt boy and dog-esque human and dragon relationship between Hiccup and Toothless. I agree though with your notion that Hiccup's sidekicks (Jonah Hill & co.) were given nothing to do. All I can say, they gave Jonah Hill's character Snotlout something to do in the third one, and without spoiling anything, it kind of reminded me of American Pie.
Can't wait for your Oscars Honest Trailer.

I think the reason that some of the side characters have such popular voice actors is that originally the HTTYD movie was going to be much more similar to the book series, where Snotlout (Jonah Hill) and Fishlegs (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) have a much more important role. They kind of last-minute rewrote the first movie to be what we have today.

My theory is Dreamworks thought that this was going to be the standard Dreamworks film (the first film was made in, I think, 2 years because they scrapped the initial idea they were working on) and hired the big names. However, once they got a legit good story from the Disney veterens they hired, the contracts with the big names were probably already signed so that's how we got well-known actors in small roles.
Honestly I think the other warriors were more than fine. They had one character trait that they used for jokes and didn't steal away screen time from the more developed main cast of Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless and Stoic, but still made the village feel bigger and more alive. Plus the way the dragons they end up with compliment that one character trait they have I thought was a nice touch and in line with the themes of the film. Also they did use them well in the third one I think, Kristen Wig was hysterical in that scene when she's imprisoned.
"Fortune favors the lucky" is redundant. Fortune means luck. That's basically "Luck goes to lucky people."

Kind of an odd twist. TJ Miller voices Tuffnut for 118 episodes of the TV series, and they get other actresses to stand in for Kristen Wiig, but for the movie they go opposite. Disney must have known something was up, because they replaced TJ as the voice of "Fred" in the Big Hero 6 TV series before all the news came out
Dan absolutely calls it with the Floss. Batman was flossing in the LEGO Batman Movie.
There is a lot of dragon training in the franchise. They're just not in the movies, they're in the tv series (worth a watch).

I actually don’t understand why the second Narnia movie was hated I think it’s because people compared to the first movie but I think it’s a very good movie the third Narnia sucked hard

YAY! The band is back together! Also, can't wait to see the third one, and really want to read the books now...only found out they existed a couple years ago.
I love this series as well. That Swedish Chef portion had me laughing so much. As for side character development, that was done way more in the TV series since the movies really didn't have a lot of time to help that element out. I don't understand why Kristen Wig was hired to do the voice of Tuffnet instead of Andree Vermeulen, who has been doing the character for a long while now in the TV series. Caught me by surprise when I saw who she was since I loved her monotone crazy character on the "Angie Tribeca" TV series. I guess since she did the character in the first two films, they decided to get her back. Oh well, she doesn't Tuffnut justice, though I've grown to like Andree.

Bjork is from Iceland, a place that is very proud of their Viking heritage, and annoyed that the the most famous Icelandic person is a short brunette rather than a six-foot tall blonde.
The leap between How To Train Your Dragon 1 & 2 makes much more sence if you have seen the series.

The Eragon books are amazing. The fans of the books hate the movie and think of it as a burning pile of trash, and one of the worst book to movie adaptations of all time.

Hey Spencer... Stoic not changing his relationship as much with Hiccup is one of the more believable aspects. Do you think real parents change that much when it comes to how they see their children? The value and trust that Hiccup earned in the first movie from his father was evident, but his dad would fall back into many of the same behaviors after the "new" wore off.

I'd have to say the first Narnian movie I absolutely LOVED. It was my first movie I remember deciding was my favorite. Plus I grew up reading the books. I enjoyed Prince Caspian but it didn't quite have the same level of whimsical magic that I loved from the the first. Also the music didn't move me like in the first. And then Dawn Treader came. I was so furious with that one. I don't remember much from the movie itself since I never saw it again after it was in theaters. And to add insult to injury that was my favorite book of the Chronicles. I remember being so sad when they decided not to continue making them. But it's understandable and maybe they'll try again in the next 50 years or so?
To be fair all the side characters are HEAVILY used in both HTTYD tv series

No need to worry about Eragon, I hear the book fans hated it even more than the non-book fans, because they screw A LOT of things up. It was a poor adaptation and a horrible movie. You're choice to put it on that list checks out just fine.
Also, you didn't really mention it, which is fine because you're right about it: In the Name of the King. I'm a Dungeon Siege fan and a Jason Stathom fan, and I STILL refused to see that movie, because it was made by Uwe Boll, who makes Michael Bay movies look like Oscar bait.
I read most of the books after seeing the first film. They are so different they are almost impossible to compare. However I still absolutely love the books and it makes me sad that they rarely get recognition.
