I seem to remember from my brief time as a Pokémon fan in 1999 that the reason they fight each other is because it helps them evolve. Why they can’t do that in the wild without being enslaved and paired against each other for entertainment, I don’t remember.
My introduction to (modern-ish) anime was the Ranma 1/2 "Big Trouble in Little Nekonron, China" movie. I would argue that it actually introduces you to the main characters, style, and central conceit of the series very well in the first 5 minutes, via a fairly elaborate chase scene.
My cousins watched the show (shows?) when I babysat them in the late 90s/early 00s and it was excruciating. I would not have guessed that my friends would be hunting Pokemon on their phones years later.

In regards to, "Pokemon aren't meant to fight. Not like this," the understanding is that Pokemon Battles are sports, they are contests of skill to see which trainers and their Pokemon have trained and earned the right to become the best. The line is meant to underscore that Pokemon shouldn't be fighting (to the death) just to prove which of them are superior, the clones or the natural born ones. In Japanese language media, it's very common for characters to have very noticable accents based on what part of the country they're from, and it often reflects on their character. To approximate this, voice directors are likely to give characters English accents that are similar. Two of the most popular are a "Brooklyn" accent to approximate a "city" type of character, and a "country" accent for people that are from the Japanese countryside. Anyway, yeah, Japanese just loves accents.
I always thought the obvious country accent was meant to represent an Osakan dialect. I think it was written in the back of 1 of the shoujo manga I read at like 12, that 1 of the characters was Osakan and he often used slang or different verbs to the other (I assume) Tokyo-ite characters, so they used a sort of Texan accent to try and make the jokes work, and show how obviously different he was in the original Japanese context. You see it a lot in 90s manga and anime, there’s often at least 1 guy who talks funny in English because he’s actually speaking in another dialect in the Japanese version. And yeah definitely reflects on their character, Osakan characters were frequently male loud and comedic relief

Best intro anime: cowboy bebop. Avoids the tropes that people who refuse to get into anime use as their reason to not watch anime. Also Short enough of a series where someone wont feel overwhelmed with it being their first FMA is Also a good choice because very early on they establish this isn't a kids show with its very mature themes.
The thing about Lavender Twon is that supposedly back when the a Japanese versions of the games came out, the music for the town had a frequency in it that would make kids sick. In tandem with Lavender Town already being the spooky town with fucked up lore, it made it seem like the game/town was "cursed"

Best intro anime: cowboy bebop. Avoids the tropes that people who refuse to get into anime use as their reason to not watch anime. Also Short enough of a series where someone wont feel overwhelmed with it being their first
FMA is Also a good choice because very early on they establish this isn't a kids show with its very mature themes.
I hope Joe never changes.
The correct answer to "what anime" is either the one in the trailer (Spirited Away) or Ghost in the Shell.
Spirited away honest trailer
The thing about Lavender Twon is that supposedly back when the a Japanese versions of the games came out, the music for the town had a frequency in it that would make kids sick. In tandem with Lavender Town already being the spooky town with fucked up lore, it made it seem like the game/town was "cursed"
5.45 - 6.13 - Best bit ever. Love Spenny G.
