  • Make an animated kicking legs DIY moving Halloween prop for your yard display or haunted house walkthrough. We share a behind the scenes look at this fun Halloween decoration idea prop and walk you through how it was made. See what we did, go over issues, and what materials were used. This prop has lasted the last three years and ran around 4 hours a night for the 3 months total. Every time we think about retiring him people ask about him. It has been placed under a lawn mower with blinking puck lights to simulate spinning blades and speakers of a guy yelling "help me," to being pulled into a freshly dug grave in which we really dug a huge hole in the front yard, to being pulled into a glowing coffin with a skeleton inside. It is one of our favorite motorized props for the yard or home haunt. The cemetery and graveyard wouldn't be the same without him. He is our gravedigger that gets into mishaps around the cemetery. He is built with an aluminum frame bolted to an enclosed box constructed of 3/4" Plywood. His moving parts consist of aluminum flat stock, steel tubing swing arm bolted to a 4 X 4 wood block. All metal parts are bolted with nylock nuts and greased ball joint fittings, jaw turnbuckles, heavy duty wiper motor powered by a LED lighting transformer.
    Check out the other kicking legs Video to see him in action in the haunt.

    I made mine all out of 2X2's.Maybe I should change to the aluminum legs.I have the turn buckles.It always broke or comes apart up in the housing unit,which I boxed in as you have.I'd like for it to run the whole season,people love it!! If you can make one of these,everything else like peek-a-boos,stirring cauldrons,etc come easy!!! Thanks for the show and tell,I will definitly change to metal parts!!

    I only said it wasn't exciting because you said it wasn't! ALL of your vids are fantastic- I mean, taking off birthday suits, cotton buns, pants are coming off every where- doesn't get much more exciting than that!!!

    For most haunters this may be basic but for many of us, until we accomplish building one with help it seems so difficult. Don't ever hesitate about showing a build because someone needs what you share. I always seem to get it when I am watching the video but it never works out that way when I have all the pieces in hand.

    Tek screws are self drilling or tapping screws that don't need to be pre-drilled. The ones I used on the kicking legs are the K-lath style #8 1-1/4" Tek . You can get them at a Home Depot. They work well but sometimes when going threw a thicker metal I will use one to drill through and then change it out for a new one with new threads. No dumb questions, I like it when you guys ask stuff.

    It wasn't as exciting as your ghost in the closet Vlog for sure! Funny, we have a ceiling fan that turns on/off by itself all the time. The big joke is that I installed it... wrong possibly Jeana says :)

    I've seen several ways you can power the wiper motors. The way we did it to make it easy for us is we purchased a power supply that is really for powering LED lights. I just made sure that the power output of the power supply didn't exceed the input labeled on the wiper motor. You also have to make sure it can power DC/AC which most do. I have also seen many use old lap top power supply's too.

    Ya, I know most of the time we usually work with what we got or what easy to find but sometimes its nice to go a little further with materials which can extend the life of your props in the long run.

    Thanks, ya I never know to how much detail needs to be said and I try not to make the videos to long. I would hope that if anyone did have a question on some thing they see in our videos to just ask and I'd help out best I can.

    If you find a power supply that has a lower output it should be OK to use but it may cause the motor to move a little slower. please let us know if that helps answer your question. After you find a power supply and need some help hooking it up let us know =)

    would a reindeer motor be strong enough or would i need a windsheild motor?

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  6 лет назад +1

      Windshield motor as the legs get pulled a little harder down by gravity and then getting up again needs some strength.
