    Very nice! I followed your guide and was careful to check the measurements for the clamps at the hardware store. lol. It's amazing what kind of range these things are capable of and I had never thought to use them for a DIY motion sensor before. It opens a world of possibilities for my homemade Halloween and Christmas props!

    yeah sometimes you can find the whole thing for cheaper than the replacement itself, its easy enough to separate the motion detector from the housing and then go from there. I am always keeping an eye our for people tossing these things as well when they do upgrades and such to their houses

    When you say do it right with wiring, You should not be using what's call a non matalic connector for wet locations.. Should be using a 1/2-in BX-MC-Flex Connector. This will prevent moister from entering the box and collecting on the terminals as well inside the box. Also should be using Teflon tape on all the male threads to help keep moister out of the box and in case it rains too.

    I hope you see this, I noticed your video was published in 2013. I was wondering if this could be done so that the motion detector could have its own power supply and use a strobe, or something that does a single flash of light like a flash of a camera. We live on an acreage and there is a pesky kid that loves to sneak around the whole neighborhood in the woods at night. I would love for him to think he's been caught. I can use a soldering iron and twist wires, but don't have the know how to create this idea. Still loved your video and look forward to another one, hopefully show me how to do this idea. Thanks

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  6 лет назад +1

      the motion detector could probably run on a large battery but whatever you plug into it would also need a power supply. you could possibly use a 12v motion detector to set off a battery powered strobe!

    but since this is going to be and outdoor are you plugging the box into a GFI outlet or not? If not you should use a GFI outlet since it might rain on the day you get to use it. Just an Idea.

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  10 лет назад

      All of my outdoor outlets are on a GFI circuit but you are correct its important for people to be cautious when using any electrical props outdoor and make sure the outlets have the proper protection.

      +Michelle Pernula Normally the green would be on the lights themselves I have not seen a motion detector with a green yet but its not a problem at all. the green is ground so be sure to tie into the other grounds and you should be just fine! Hope this helps!

  • @Kevwac14

    I did exactly what you showed and light still flickers. It does have the dual bright setting. I have that setting on OFF and still flickers. I wished I had another one motion sensor to switch it out with but I would have to go to the store.

    • @Kevwac14
      @Kevwac14 7 лет назад

      Just read where you suggested changing LED bulb. Regular bulbs work now but it seems like there isn't enough power to run a pencil sharpener. I haven't gotten my wiper motor yet, but I'm guessing it may not provide enough power to run the motor.

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  7 лет назад

      All of my wiper motors run on hacked motion detectors like this one I like to do that so the motors arent running all night for no reason if no one is there to see them. I have had one motion detector in the past that wouldnt run a wiper motor if it was set to test mode so simply setting it to run for 1 minute instead of being test mode fixed the issue, try that be sure to either try it at night or black out the photocell sensor otherwise it wont work until it thinks its dark

    • @Kevwac14
      @Kevwac14 7 лет назад

      Thanks for responding. I think I figured out the problem. The stupid pencil sharpener itself. Plug the sharpener in another outlet and was doing the same then it finally quit, so the pencil sharpener is now deceased. I plugged in my 120V belt sander into the motion detector outlet and worked just fine. So the setup was good, and everything seems to work now. Thanks!

  • @bustedknuckleworkshop
    @bustedknuckleworkshop 10 лет назад

    I built this and it does work, however the motion sensor is not made for high amperage draw. Wiper motors run very slow. High draw motors won't run at all. It is a bit disappointing.

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  10 лет назад

      check your setup and make sure the dim feature that i mention in this video is not turned on. I use this same setup for my wiper motors and they work just fine no issues what so ever. I made a few these to give to my fellow haunter down the street and he uses them on his wiper motors as well also without any issues. Also make sure its putting out a full 112v when turned on some motion detectors are made to work with CFL and LED lights and put out a smaller voltage

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  8 лет назад

      +Michael Keller thats very odd indeed. check to see if your motion detector has a "Dual Bright" setting if it does be sure to turn that off and see if it helps. Does it only do this with the motor? if you plug in just a light by itself does it work fine?

    Do these motion detectors work with 12VAC solenoid air gang switches?
    I want to use motion detection with my pneumatic cylinders...
    Thanks!!

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  7 лет назад

      it would if you hooked up 12v power supplies to the gang switches then ran the power supplies off of the plugs, also you could look into switching the 12v system out for 110v ac systems and plug them right into this as well. Im using 110v solenoids on my pneumatics

    • @bestrealestate3831
      @bestrealestate3831 7 лет назад

      I just don't wanna run 120VAC across the lawn for safety reasons. I suppose I could run the motion detector wiring through some underground PVC to the front porch... :)
      I only want the motion setting off the 12VDC solenoid switches on a control panel on the covered porch or garage, but I still need sound and lighting at the props near the sidewalks...Hmmmm

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  7 лет назад

      i would put 12v power supplies close to the motion detector then just run the 12v across the card to the solenoid then it should work just fine that way!

    • @bestrealestate3831
      @bestrealestate3831 7 лет назад

      I was thinking of having a control board up under the front porch with all 12VDC solenoids, air regulator, shut off valve, and power supplies mounted on the board. This way I only need tubing (2 runs per pneumatic cylinder) to run through a buried PVC pipe to the props.
      I have seen hacks of these wireless driveway motion detectors from Harbor Freight ($10)
      Still not sure how to trip the 12VDC solenoid using these though...
      I know in order to use lighting, strobes, blacklights, and sound effects, I will need to run 120VAC to the props.
      I have TONS of AC/DC adaptors, 7, 9, 12, 24VDC, etc... which might be a good option, if it doesn't rain during the Halloween season...Lol
      Too bad there's no low voltage blacklights or strobe lights invented yet... :(

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  7 лет назад

      oh thats a good idea just running the air lines all around the yard would work well too! yeah we are still limited on our 12v lighting for sure haha

  • @donnylinton8419
    @donnylinton8419 8 лет назад

    how about for battery operated props do you have anything for that? I guess my motion sensor would need to make some kind of sound to turn on my props

    • @scottschultz1961
      @scottschultz1961 8 лет назад

      +Donny Linton Don't most battery operated props already have a motion sensor built in? If not it would be easy to hack the battery compartment to work with a wall wort power supply of the same voltage typically 6v, 9v or 12v and then you'd be able to plug that prop into a motion sensor like the one seen here.

    • @donnylinton8419
      @donnylinton8419 8 лет назад

      +Scott Schultz yeah these battery-operated don't have motion sensor they say they do but they don't they're actually activated by sound by clapping your hands snapping your fingers so how would your system work do you have a video for that hacking into the batteries thanks for the response

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  8 лет назад

      +Donny Linton do your props have an option to run on a wall wart? if so you could use this system to simply power a wall wart to power your props. If not as Scott mentioned with some tinkering and soldering you could directly wire a wall wart up to the props

    • @donnylinton8419
      @donnylinton8419 8 лет назад

    Can you explain applying the ground wire to both the outlet and the gang box? 13:30. Where are you getting the other ground wire and how are you attaching it to the gang box?

    • @EerieAcresCemetery
      @EerieAcresCemetery  9 лет назад

      The gangbox has its own ground lug (green screw) which you can see on the bottom left hand corner on the inside of the box if you look closely in the video. I just used a spare piece of wire to connect all the grounds together. If something has a ground available on it is always a good idea to ground it just to be safe!

    Waitaminute. You had your hand 2 inches away and it hesitated to go off! What is the distance on those things? They should go off at LEAST 25 feet, you had 2 INCHES and it hesitated to go off. That's a lot of work to do, to have it hesitate at 2 inches!

      I have the same type and I've noticed that if you get REALLY close (I'm talking inches), it sometimes doesn't trigger. But then I put it out and stand at the end of my driveway and even across the street and it triggers no problem. For reliability and versatility of range, angles, etc, this really can't be beat IMO.

      After much playing around and absolutely NO help from Lowes OR Home Sleepot, I found that unplugging this and THEN switching to the 1 minute mark and THEN plugging it back in sets it to go off properly. What I'm wondering is ~ what would happen if this was hardwired into a detector system. You just can't keep unplugging it unless you turn the circuit breaker off to make any adjustments. They just don't say anything like that in the directions.

    Just so everyone is clear on this ~ this motion controller, or any, will NOT effectively turn on animatronics for any length of time other than in the "test" mode, and even then it will not completely cycle through the animatronic, because it will only last about 5 seconds. There is no way around it, so, save your time and money. I've had an electrician check this. SAVE YOUR MONEY. It turns lights on and off. End of story. Big disappointment too.

      I'm sorry but none of what you just said is true in the least, there is a reason haunters have been doing this hack for years. These will run your animatronics just fine for any of the pre set time limits on the sensor 1,5, or 10 minutes. I currently use 2 of these to run ALL of my animatronics in the yard display. Keep in mind that when using the preset times it must be dark for the sensor to turn them on just like it wont turn on your flood lights unless its dark. If you are having trouble making this work you are simply doing it wrong. In fact if you want proof of this you can watch my newest video, the part where I walk away from the statue and bend over, yeah thats me waving my hand in front of the sensor notice how my animatronics come to life near the statue and continue to move even though I am no longer in front of the sensor they are set to run on the lowest setting of 1 minute, it works fine in all of the settings 1,5, or 10 minutes here is a link to the video ruclips.net/video/999tH_5Go84/видео.html

    Ok, obviously nobody is monitoring this because I don't see anyone answering any remarks. I wired it exactly as you did, and it doesn't work in one minute, three minute, 20 minutes or whatever. Just the test setting, and it only lasts for about 6 seconds. What kind of prop do you want to run for 6 seconds, and spend $35 on all these parts ! This is a waste of time , intelligence and money. So?

      Please see my reply above keep in mind the preset times will not work unless its dark if you need to use this in a lit area be sure to cover the photocel sensor on it first

      I have electrical tape over the top of the photocell. First thing I figured. The problem ~ is the animatronics that are sold in the stores that have their own "photocell" and has phrases that it says. It seems that they pop on, and end half way through the sentence, and won't work at all in preset times. One of them.....even sounds slow, like there's not enough power to it, and there is no load on it whatsoever.

      For sure if you are using store bought props with their own sensors build in then this most likely wont work for you, you will need to find a way to bypass the built in sensors they always turn on when power is supplied to them then this should work you

    You should probably use electrical tape on the wire nut (just so that the wire nut doesn’t fall off)
