Exactly, I got the EGO self propelled mower and the string trimmer and discovered one benefit I didn't plan for .. I can work on the lawn early in the day as soon as lawn is dry and neighbors don't even hear me, .. they have told me they don't hear a thing, these machines are very stealthy, ...

I just saw this EGO commercial on TV 10 minutes ago! Very impressive tool. But I'm not in the EGO battery family. And I don't string trim because I live in a rental. But I'm diggin my Makita 36v mower. No runs to the gas station to fill the gas can. No stinky gas and 2 cycle oil exhaust fumes. Almost no noise either. Battery powered is real naaaaaas laaaaak as far as I am concerned. No rain here in Kansas USA Clint!

As soon as they have the new minibike available I'll be buying that for my oldest grandson.

After watching you're very enjoyable video review, I went & bought this at Lowe's. If I needed this trimmer for grass, only, it would be fantastic!! But my biggest need for a more powerful weed eater than my battery powered Black & Decker, is to clean an uneven (1954) brick walkway behind my house that has grass over-taking it.
This trimmer has power, for sure, but after about 4 feet of a 2' wide portion, the string was gone! I put in the 14' string that came in the box, & after only 2-3 feet of a 4' wide portion, that string was gone! My gosh, I guess it just kept auto-feeding the line. Even My battery B&D will do the entire walkway, just not great because of lack of power. I really think the problem came from the continual auto-feed of the line, due to using it on bricks.
Thing is, my former lawn guy could clean 20' or more of the walkway with his gas trimmer!! I don't know what kind he had, might try to contact him & ask. For now, I sprayed the walkway with Roundup. I hate using chemicals, but it'll get the job done.
Since that's my main purpose for having a stronger weed eater, this is going back to Lowe's.
Hint to anyone buying, though -- the shoulder strap was truly a lifesaver in the time that I used the trimmer this morning!! I'm a 67 y.o. female, & this would've been too heavy for me otherwise. I have carpal tunnel in my right wrist, but with the strap, I just switched sides & used my left hand for the power switch. The strap is NOT the EGO name brand, but it was at the end of the aisle from the trimmers, at Lowe's, with the rolls of string. I'll keep the strap, might be able to use it with my smaller battery B&D trimmer.

I love my EGO string trimmers. Unbelievable torque. Way more effective than any gas powered trimmer I’ve ever used. I have a little over 5 acres of weeds to knock down every spring. I mow about 80% of it with an EGO lawn mower, and string trim the rest. However! I have had terrible luck with the auto string load feature. The first EGO string trimmer I purchased, the auto load failed after about 3 loads. Very disappointing. I returned that one to Home Depot, and bought another one. This time the auto load string feature failed on the second day. Here’s the problem. There’s no way to manually load the string. I tried to contact EGO for help, but it was during the pandemic, and so they were unable to take my call. I read a few online forums, and decided to clean the head real good. That fixed it! But sadly, it failed again within a couple of hours. Nothing I did after that revived it. I even tried replacing the switch that you push to feed the string. So, in desperation, I purchased the cheaper EGO string trimmer without auto load. Two seasons later, I’m still using the non auto load EGO trimmer, and it works great. So in a nutshell, I’m skeptical about EGO trimmers that have these advanced features. I wonder how long this “auto string length” function will work. I will admit that some of this lack of reliability may be my fault. I use my trimmers very aggressively, often taking the weeds all the way down to bare dirt. This churns up a lot of dust, and makes a mess of the string head. I have to disassemble and clean the head about every 3 loads.

    • @ToolReviewZone
      @ToolReviewZone  Год назад

Really awesome feedback. I've had a lot of people state that they were nervous about the autoloader when I made the last video years ago, but never has an issue with it. That said, I understand them being nervous about it 👊

I agree that ego is leading the charge (see what I did there?) in cordless OPE. They are head and shoulders above the rest and I don’t even have any. Sadly at the time the only thing I could afford and also easily access was the Ryobi 40v line. Don’t get me wrong the 40v stuff is good and always accomplishes my tasks but I also always feel like when I’m using it there’s nothing left to give. For instance whatever I’m using wether it be the weed eater or blower, it’s already at max output and if some of the variables changed a little then it couldn’t keep up. It’s a very difficult to describe and intangible feeling. I’ve used some of my friends ego stuff and never felt like I was approaching the limits of what it could do. The only issue I have with this weed eater is it’s not attachment capable and that is definitely something I use.

You only keep this on when you are cutting." I bought it, took it home and I use it on the property, just under 2 acres... my house, the shop area (bis as both houses) and my in-laws house with all the drive ways and surrounds. The farthest L've run it down is just kissing the last bar, and I only have the 2.5 bhattrey. Get it, and you'll never get pissed because of a clogged, blocked, piece of crap carb again.

@@ToolReviewZone I had the older telescoping 15inch version with powerload. I bought it a little over a year ago.
My Gardner fell in love with it and bought it off me (🤔 opportunity to upgrade!!!).
I'll probably feel bad for him (for all of 2 minutes) this weekend when he sees this new one 😂. It's much lighter while feeling more substantial, and it's bigger! I also got the strap too.

The one issue I have that's not real nice like, is the multi-head setup. EGO only makes a specific model that allows for multi-head use. The MHC1502 kit comes with an edger. It doesn't have tele or string feed button or carbon fiber. I bought an EGO blower and chain saw last year. These things are built extremely well. I bought the ST 1520 with the Powerline 3 years ago. i use the small battery and don't love it. The Powerline is a bitch to load. hard to get the line through thew 2 eyelets and often the powerline doesn't wind up the string tight enough. The result is too short of lines after some cutting. It is a bit heavy if you have alot of trimming to do. i like the idea of the 2 speeds and hope that the new powerline is better than the old one. Maybe using Ego string would work better.

Prove it's the best I could ever use by taking on my 54 acre farm, and thousands of feet of fence line. P.s. you only get 1 day to knock it all out.😂

    I purchased this weed eater
It did fine But when you want to use it as edger and turn it sideways
The auto feed does not work
So I returned it back to Lowe’s
I wanted so much work out

Yo Clint! Yep. If it works it works. I converted to electric string trimming a couple years ago. Not for the sake of "going green" but rather for sensibility. I'm in Florida (yes, cmon down!) and there's NOTHING worse than repeatedly pulling a rope on a small gas engine that won't start while it's 1,000 degrees outside. When my last "throw away" brand gas string trimmer took a dump, I went electric and haven't looked back. Although be it, I chose Ryobi not Ryobi 40v system. Only because of the attachment capability. Which leads me to my question. Does EGO offer any "attachment capable" options?

Really hated the Line-IQ feature. Also because it rotated clockwise, which was very inconvenient. Bought the new 2023 version of the (EGO) multi-head trimmer which I find more faster and more robust.
On the Line-IQ, I felt like I was always waiting for it to unreel more line. That is, I worked faster than the machine allowed.

Hello, I'm shopping for a new grass trimmer but haven't had to buy one in like 5+ years, cause my current Echo (gas) trimmer is still going but was given to me by my uncle who has his own lawn service.
Question is, is electric the way to go over traditional gas ones? I honestly can't decide.

I have a different brand with the "no bump" feed, and it fails to feed the line most times. I am always having to open the thing up and manually pull out more line. After several months, is the EGO no bump feed function still working? Thanks.

I jumped into the EGO line full-on because I hated dealing with petrol and oil. So far, I only have one EGO tool, the 2 stage snow blower 2405. It's been great for 2 Maine winters so far, clearing a 250' gravel driveway on a hill. 16' of light snow can be done with 2 X 5ah batteries, but give me the same amount of heavy, wet snow, and it will need 4 of those batteries. FYI

Can you please do a follow-up video with the following demonstration? :
I have an Ego string trimmer that is a couple of years old and I HATE it, and the reason is that my small female hands absolutely cannot remove the head to fix the string or change it or anything. I have tried using tools to pry it apart and everything, and it is impossible for me, my hands are not weak for a woman, but they are small and thus have less leverage. So can you do a video where someone with small hands takes the head apart? I will not buy another trimmer until I find one that I can service, it has been incredibly frustrating to have this tool I cannot fix. I do love the Ego batteries, but this is a dealbreaker for me, I will choose the trimmer that I can get apart.
Fingers crossed you can show this demonstration!

Hmmm, interesting. The had on this is very easy to remove. Push in one tab, pull down a little then push in the other tab and pull out. I know whatbyou meant though.... some are very hard to remove, but, with the features that this has, you wouldn't really need to remove the head. If you really need one though, I can make a short on it?
