The Porsche 918 Spyder is already a legendary super sports car (as Porsche classifies them). But this new Porsche Mission X hypercar ~ it is totally on a new level. It is literally a technical marvel. The car design, headlights, tail lights, no mirrors (instead fitted with a back looking camera), the ability to elevate or lower the car frame. Seriously, this car will definitely become the best hypercar in the world. Sure, it will cost in the million range but still less expensive compared to a Koenigsegg or Bugatti. Personally, I would take the Porsche Mission X and Porsche 918 Spyder over any hypercar and super sports car in the world anytime.

I think most people would pick the 918 Spyder, but yes most people would pick the Carerra GT over an all electric car. This is basically just a fancy looking Tesla Plaid. If sports car enthusiasts wanted EVs then Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren would all be selling EVs now. You aren’t just paying for speed, you are paying for the driving experience, and EVs are nowhere near the driving experience as a ICE sports car
The most special thing about this will actually be the weight and a totally new battery technology. Electric hypercars are no real alternative for the track yet, because they are so heavy. I mean even the recent Rimac Nevera weighs 2150kg, which is like crazy 800kg more than the best hypercars with a combustion engine. Porsche said in an German interview that they want at least a 1:1 ratio of power to weight and in the same report it was said that the car won't weigh more than 1500kg, because everything will be aimed for maximum lightweight, even the E-motors, the batteries... just basically everything. For comparison: the AMG ONE weighs 1695kg and has 1063 HP (power-ratio is 1 to 0.63). So with only 1500kg + a 1:1 power-to-weight-ratio, all the newest Porsche magic when it comes to the E-motors, suspension, chassis, aerodynamics, cooling etc. and all the newest Porsche-Rimac magic when it comes to the batteries and E-technology (so stuff, that is currently only developed for this car), this beast will be a monster on the track. Porsche already mentioned that in their current simulations they beat the new AMG ONE Nordschleife record by an insane amount of time. That's obviously only a simulation and when the Mission X is meant to be produced as a street-legal car in a few years, we're talking about battery-technology and other technology that is not on the market yet - but Porsche and also Rimac are working on it. I bet this car will set a new benchmark for E-hypercars on the street when it will be produced in a few years.
All Porsche really has to do is update and electrify the GT2 and it will comfortably beat the AMG One. But the target is moving. 200 extra horsepowers gives around 15 second advantage between Porsche GT3 and GT2 models so how much will further horsepower give? I tend to think quite a bit more because it can't taper off instantly but when you get close to 6 minutes you need some scary performance. By the way, Mission X will probably be the first production car that will gain noticeable acceleration thanks to downforce. I consider +10% noticeable increase. So Mission X could start at around 1.4 G at 0 and reach 1.55 G at 150 kph. Maybe. But it's pretty cool if it can.
I'll take a amg one over an electric hypercar🤮🤮 hypercar cars should not be electric! Now I'm well aware I'm not the target Audience but electric supercars/hypercars are extremely repulsive
This is the challenge of all car makers for the. future isn't it. Straight-line speed is boring after the 3rd time. Which never is boring is sound, handling, apex, breaking on the limit, and a combination of it.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 I agree, but.... How much of that is legal on the road? Just the sound. Which element is missing in this car? Just the sound.
@@procatprocat9647 It will be history.....but those super cars which are lined up will be cared for and remembered. @bavariancarenthusiast2722 it should be. As a matter of fact I think porsche should make a limited number of 911 GT1's (50-100) every generation (997-991 ect) and it should be an extreme track focused car. Porsche keeps making the GT2 RS, and I keep wondering why they don't build the 911 GT1? Such an underrated car.
Who thought brown would look good on a modern electric super car?? I honestly would have chosen silver or some fancy color instead. Either way Porsche is just awesome!
They finally lit up the "Porsche" in the real lights! I wish they'd have done that with the Taycan! Would love to have it light up one letter at a time as you power on the car! How cool to have a mic drop moment like that with it going "P O R S C H E" one letter at a time like that? I investigated doing that on my Taycan and the money to do it would just be nuts. Can't wait to see what the production model of this car looks like and what it can do!
Because Porsche has likely run into two rather big issues with it's e-fuels program. From the start, Porsche has looked at e-fuels as an intermediary step and I suspect that it has alot to do with scale.... I honestly don't think that Porsche wants to be in the fuel providing business, and as of with now, they only have one factory (maybe two?) making the synthetic fuel. They can't and likely won't provide e-fuels for anything outside of motor-sport and even within it, the use of it's own e-fuel is likely going to be limited. With brings us to the second issue, it takes a lot of energy to produce e-fuels which also means that production is somewhat slow. Motorsport fuel demands are rather high, and that doesn't even get the large economy.... slow fuel production isn't going to work out aside from the odd experiment or several. Plus, Porsche has rather quickly got up to speed with the electric motor.... Then is also the fact that because of the deal that made the Bugatti-Rimac Group, they get open access to what Rimac Technologies has been cooking with. So yeah, might as well make a electric hypercar at this point, it is not as if it's impossible to do or they don't have to expertise for it.
Porsche never said sustainable fuels is the main focus but just a supplement mostly for racing or existing cars. They repeatedly stated that their main focus is EV for the future with 80% of new models being EV by 2030
I'm curious to see how far is the interest of collectors and the super rich and enthusiasts on electric hyper cars go. For now hybrids and electrics are new and cool, and crazy. I wanna see if that will fade away with time and the new wealthy generations. If people who lost interest on motor sport in general is a metric, the lack of sound will definitely be a problem. Like what happened with F1.
I do like the fact that it's fully electric, and I absolutely love that we're finally getting a bleeding-edge successor to the GT and 918, but this honestly doesn't look nearly as good as either of them, I'm afraid. The 918 still is one of the sexiest cars ever made, whereas this one looks like a weird hybrid between the Porsche 963 LMS, the Pagani Utopia, the Cadillac Cien and the Jaguar XJ75 with Chiron-esque taillights. It's not terribly smooth, and it just doesn't scream "Porsche" to me. And while the interior is indeed awesome, it's most likely gonna be heavily reworked for the road-ready version. But I hope its performance will be enough to change my mind lol
Battery's are probably going to be solid state, two of the major battery manufacturers are planning production runs from 2025, Solid State is the game changer, twice the capacity, twice the output, half the charging time, so the cars can be significantly lighter than current electric vehicles while still out performing them in every metric.
I know everything is now all about electrification. Do you think that we would see a hybridized naturally aspirated flat 6 911 on a basic trim (such as carrera and carrera4s?) or most hybridized 911 will be paired with a turbocharged flat 6 (probably excluding the soon hybridized gt3?) ?
You missed an important point here that Porsche is intentionally moving away from surface touch interfaces (ahem Ferrari) and towards metal mechanical/physical/tactile controls as a means of bringing back ‘analogue glory days’ of Porsche. It’s a welcome change. Not that I’ll ever be able to own one. But hopefully it will trickle down as the new design language.
I suppose there's the replacement for the Bugatti Chiron which is said to be a hybrid and they're in the same group so I suppose that's the closest thing to a hybrid Porsche hypercar.
@@beaviccoon470 But that will be 3Million. And not a Porsche but a 2 Tonnes heavy car. I think I speak for all Motorsport enthousiasts if I say we want a successor with a screaming engine and blue flames, not some buzzing sound and smth that half a sec quicker than their family sedan...
@@kjellandrebakken6775 They already do with other cars in the lineup. which is why this makes no sense to me. Plus, they will sell wether its electric or ICE-hybrid.
Porsche put two speeds in the Taycan. With how good PDK is, it makes sense to add a few more gears and harness that monster torque in electric motors and also increase the gear ratio dramatically for range. It wouldn’t surprise me if this car comes out with a transmission.
pdk is good but imagine this running on CVT... you could have way more relations to acelerate, and once a certain speed is reached make it way more eficient making it have a long range.
True but their is a bit of a catch to that. You see, you control the gears in a Taycan by speed alone, it is truly automatic. Could you put in more gears, maybe but that is more a waste of energy that anything because gears in a ICE are not just for entertainment sake... it to control the torque band, which for an EV is effectively 0. Hell, the Taycan has to two speed to control the heat of the gears than anything else. Sadly, range is a static near flat line between the gears the Taycan does have.
That's against the Porsche Philosophy I would say - they are all about form follows function - you don't need a gear box anymore - the Taycan use it for higher efficiency - but its also higher weight. High Tech engines don't need those anymore - so safe the weight.
This thing is gorgeous except for the headlights. I'm in no way opposed to new takes (granted I love the circular headlights Porsche has always had an would love to see what this design would have been had they designed the front with those in mind) but these are a little odd for me. The design is cool but the proportions are off. Maybe turn them horizontal or maybe make them one piece, not split like that. Maybe extend the top one just past the nose to about where the second light starts. Similar to the Brabham BT62's light but just shifted downward. Or even the same placement the Brabham has would work

“0-60 in under 2 seconds seems fully reasonable” incredible how these things are do-able today when just 10 years ago 0-60 under 3 seconds was mind blowing.
As a passenger I really wouldn't want to headbutt that analogue timepiece in a crash... I like the fact the battery has been packaged like in the Evija to emulate mid-engined car mass distribution, but I do wonder if this, and the 2025 Boxster/Cayman EV, will get solid state batteries like the Toyotas due in 2027.
It shapes like, if it wasnt an EV, it can take a new gen Flat-12. Like the monsters of the past (917 and its Trans-Am super-brother)
Imagine, *a hypercar body with a Group-C inspired engine*
now THATS what i'm talking about!
an LMH for the street!!!
make it an LMH ! LMDH all kinda look the same :(
Such a cool interior, man.
Already 918 was my favourite and this too!!!
Le Mans inspired prototypes are my favorite super/hypercars
yes please - perfect colour too - rear view mirror cameras are going to make all kinds of design statements, starting with this one. Really intriguing placement.
I like how they have kept every switches one expects to be there even though it's a car coming out by 2026 or 2027
The color and look are amazing and with help from rimac it should be sick
The Daytona window in the roof is fantastic, and the Porsche Design chronograph is a gem in an outstanding interior.
2:20. In 10 years time, with the mission X added to their lineup, most would still pick the nearly 30 year old Carrera GT
Yes I would 100% pick the Carrera GT
Bee-E-A-utiful. Love the Cadillac inspired headlights.
I can't believe the holy trinity is already 10 years old. I remember arguing with my friends in highschool about which one would be the fastest.
I'd rather it not be an EV, these cars can be fast and quick but something can be fast and boring.
Its not only the sound - its the attack on all senses, its what you see, what you smell, the vibrations in all ranges, the oil, gas, leather...this will be from the past soon - the world will be cleaner, but the immersion into all senses will be a thing of the past.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 you've entirely misunderstood my post.
Many elements of the design look like concept cars from the 80's. Particularly the roof/glass.
Absolutely gorgeous machine and what a fit out internally. No surprise it looks like the LeMans prototype currently back on the circuits. 918 still looks amazing too, 10 years and fresh as a daisy ❤❤❤😢😢 poster only fir me
This was your best presentation so far. I like this a lot!
All they have to do is rely on the drive train developments from Rimac since they started that partnership last year. Should be awesome.
I can't wait to see competition in the all electric hypercar. Good start Porsche.
Rimac Nevera, Lotus Evija, Aspark Owl, Pininfarina Battista
I like Porsche since I studied mechanics 9 years ago and when my family gave me a book about the history of Porsche and I learned about the Porsche 360 Cisitalia 👨🏻🔧
When someone hears mission x people expect an absolutely ridiculous track focus car but this car is seams more sophisticated and elegant
918 porsche still looks like a brand new car in 2023
Love how the 911 GT1 (the best of the bunch) gets forgotten when porsche supercars are mentioned.
I agree, Barry.
Because it's not a supercar - its a pure race car in street pajamas - a homologation breed, never rooted in a Supercar.
Correct because there was a Strassenversion GT1 and they should've parked it before the CGT.
2:09 so the famously tricky clutch that ive herd alot about is fixed by having a wooden gearstick knob, interesting
This also reminded me that Rimac already did all this and their car has more power, years before this one. I feel like Porsche is playing catch up.
The 918 was the most underwhelming looking car of the holy trinity at the time, but now…. It’s bloody gorgeous
Who thought brown would look good on a modern electric super car?? I honestly would have chosen silver or some fancy color instead. Either way Porsche is just awesome!
Interior is 10/10 !
Porsche: Sustainable fuels are the future!
Also Porsche: Our flagship is electric!
Don’t they have a 992 gt3 racecar running on hydrogen? Or am I making that up 😂🤔
@kentbeitel9966 I can't find that with some google-fu. But the porsche 911 cup runs on renewable fuels and Porsche has invested heavily in it.
They repeatedly stated that their main focus is EV for the future with 80% of new models being EV by 2030
@@DuvJones considering porsche and co dropped 1 billion for a factory in Tasmania I think they are pretty committed to e fuels
Great episode.
Great feature from TG. Feels like the old TG.
With 4 years to go to 2027, i have a feeling quite of few things could change...
I always love when they use a 4ft tall person in the supercars, it makes the cars look roomy
00:54 I can definitely use that as my pc wallpaper
That's... quite a busy design. It's past present and future all crammed into a car. There's even a T top.
The front light is not looking sharp enough. 919 concept looks much bolder, balanced and beautiful, and it has that Lmp race car DNA.
The 918 spyder is my ultimate JEEZ it's perfect.
And it has the Daytona 917 roof window. 😊
How great is that!!!!!! if you find this design easter eggs only if you know! With Gulf livery please
It's stunning! 😍
Great Job Top Gear! Love it! What a statement from Porsche!
Battery's are probably going to be solid state, two of the major battery manufacturers are planning production runs from 2025, Solid State is the game changer, twice the capacity, twice the output, half the charging time, so the cars can be significantly lighter than current electric vehicles while still out performing them in every metric.
Don’t know about the drivetrain but this thing looks aesthetically ready for production
As soon as I heard it’s electric, my heart broke😢
Skill issue
Bro grow up
The lights are so distinct it genuinely doesn’t look like a Porsche.
I know everything is now all about electrification. Do you think that we would see a hybridized naturally aspirated flat 6 911 on a basic trim (such as carrera and carrera4s?) or most hybridized 911 will be paired with a turbocharged flat 6 (probably excluding the soon hybridized gt3?) ?
those wheels are insane
And this is where the half-billion Euro, Porsche / Rimac / VW / Bugatti collaboration comes to light.
Beautiful
reminds me of a zonda, not a bad thing
Pagani Huayra/Koenigsegg CC8S
No. Its electric. We already have RImac for that, which is partially owned by Porsche. Make it hybrid or dont make it at all is what i say.
You dont think that Porsche will capitalize on the fact that they partially own rimac by using some of their ev expertise?
@@thepineappleburster4439 you don't speak for anyone other than yourself here.
This is more interesting because it's fully electric and not less. 👍🏻
It would have been a lot more beautiful if they'd only kept the upper half of the headlights.
I wish they kept the headlight concept but I onow it will be insane
Stunning
The front looks a bit Fischer-Price, the back looks great
I wonder what the reason is for making the passenger seat brown? The car must be very quick:)
Or even the same placement the Brabham has would work
One of the Most Beautiful Cars Ever Conceived! Too Bad they want to give it the Soul of a Golf Cart! Wish it was going to be Twin-Turbo V10!!! iid like to break in & LS Swap it @ Least!
“0-60 in under 2 seconds seems fully reasonable” incredible how these things are do-able today when just 10 years ago 0-60 under 3 seconds was mind blowing.
that's electric for ya
As a passenger I really wouldn't want to headbutt that analogue timepiece in a crash... I like the fact the battery has been packaged like in the Evija to emulate mid-engined car mass distribution, but I do wonder if this, and the 2025 Boxster/Cayman EV, will get solid state batteries like the Toyotas due in 2027. They'll also need to something clever with the glasshouse tinting to avoid frying the occupants on a sunny day. Is this going to be RWD?
Looks like a lemans prototype race car 🏎 🤷♂️
When Hyundai makes a better concept than Porsche 💀
Some people seem to like it though, so no hate. It's not a bad car.
deadass, the Hyundai looks so much cooler
I beg to differ - totally different universe
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 for sure, but their design department absolutely killed it. I can't say the same for the Porsche, but that's just my opinion.
@@existentialselkath1264 yeah design is totally about personal taste - I like some of the Hyundai designs, the concept for the 6 was awesome, it turned out an accident design for the Ioniq6 not good. I like the Ioniq5 a lot on the street though.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 you didn't mention the N Vision 74, which isn't a problem. Just clarifying that's the sorta high profile concept that I'm comparing this to
I hope Porsche backtrack on the all electric idea for this car, and include an ice preferably a n/a, low displacement, high revving v10.
The extra window up front is a nod to the 917 racing in the US
