I support Porsche in everything they do. Because they have balls, bringing cars to whatever track and pitting said cars against whatever the competitors bring. Of course said competitors don't bring their cars unless they can get an unfair advantage in tuning to the track of their choice with unrealistically tuned cars and an army of their own techs and mechanics (looking at you, Ferrari). Porsche doesn't make excuses, they say "bring it". Oh, and if it doesn't quite live up to expectations, and the reviewer says so, the reviewer won't be banned from driving those Porsches (Right, Chris Harris?)
Chris Nelson Top Gear, before jeremy had his contract not renewed by the BBC, they tried to put the 918, the p1 and Laferrari racing together to see which one was better or faster. The only company that said "alright, let's do this without any change" was Mclaren. Both porsche and ferrari put conditions to race against one another, so i dont think they would say "yes, let's bring it on". I love porsches, they are amazing machines but i think that if a company puts limits when they test their cars, then there's a problem with what they are making, but that's my opinion about it.
+juan oyanedel What bullshit... also watch the motor trend video... Porsche said: Enjoy, mclaren said: only if the technical crew are allowed. Ferrari said: we decline. LMFAO. Annnnnnd Porsche set the best time on laguna seca.
Actually, yeah, i lied and i wanted to apologice to you guys. I had my information wrong. Porsche was the one that didn't put any conditions to race the 918 against the p1 and Laferrari. Mclaren wanted just factory cars and another race course, rather than top gear's one, and as usual, ferrari wanted a team of mechanic and a non factory car, a prepared one for the course. So yes, it was my mistake and im sorry for the inconvenience.
Simply love the location of the exhaust! The car is absurdly beautiful! Definitely the one to buy out of the 3 hybrid supercars for the simple fact that it epitomizes driving: in race mode, electric/economy mode, or a combination as well as it being a Spyder. This car does it all!
Richard Hammond had the same look after driving it too Jay. You can take your wife out to dinner in it and when alone enjoy the canyons like never before. That car is the future.
I own a 1999 911 Porsche Carerra Cabriolet manual 6 speed. The first year of the water cooled engine. Yes, I am bragging, as any respectable Porsche owner would do. I named the car "Otto" considering it's German heritage. It has barely over 103,000 miles on it & IS a daily driver. Because I do my best to try to take care of the car, the original clutch lasted for 100,000 miles. Interesting facts about Porsche & the 911; The reason the ignition is on the left of the driver is because all Porsche's are racers. Porsche race drivers(in the 24 Le Mans race) in the early days had a split second advantage over other drivers because they could start the cars with the left hand & leave the right hand free for immediate gear shifting. Out of a sense of tradition, they've kept this innovation over the years. Also, 75% of ALL Porsche's are still on the road! I don't know how many other car companies can claim that! The other 25% must've been lost in high speed collisions I reckon. Although Porsches are expensive, they're WAY less expensive than other "Supercars" like the Lambo.
Aussie Roo Productions Exactly. I don't know how the statement could be any clearer. "Out of a sense of tradition, they've kept this innovation over the years." ...When 24 Le Mans races started in the early years, drivers had to have their backs against a wall & had to run to their cars. The Porsche response or "INNOVATION" was to PUT THE IGNITION ON THE LEFT as I explained in my initial post. ....NOW, it's "tradition." G'day Mate!
Porsche truly knows their game, they created a master piece. This, the P1 and the LaFerrari will be remembered for decades to come. There is a guy here that owns a red 918 here in town and man does it look good.
dude with his kind of money he 's already flooded with prostitutes and drugs. He probably has a lot more to spare so he spends it on cars. I mean one of these cars could buy you hundreds of high class prostitutes... and he has like hundreds of cars
He owns several Porsches already, including the Carrera and the GT you saw at the start of this video, where, incidentally, you also saw him raving about how much he loved this one.

I just wanted to here the Rep,, say,,, "It's Berry Berry sneaky" I also like how happy he was at Jay's enjoyment of the car. It's like a happy kid sharing his favorite toy with his friend, and enjoying his friend liking it.
Well, you keep asking what's my favorite thing about the show. So I will tell you. It is Jay's everyman approach to showing us cars we can drool over but never afford. Never once have I felt like Jay was rubbing my nose in the fact that he has all sorts of cars I never will. Now, I will tell you something I _don't_ like. This is not limited to this show, but it is something I saw in this video and have seen in a few others on this channel, and it is something that bugs me. When Jay first started out in television, he had to learn which camera to talk to. If he faced the wrong camera while speaking, it was considered a bad thing, and what is more, it would have been considered to be his fault. I can well imagine how difficult a thing this might be to learn while you are nervously talking in front of several cameras, and I think it is something I would have trouble with, to say the least. These days, however, it seems to be hip for the video editor and/or director to choose whatever camera they like while the subject is speaking, in some sort of attempt at "art," apparently. Also apparently, the person on camera is given no clue as to which camera is "live," as all the editing is done much later. So despite their experience, practice, and training, they are at the mercy of whatever video editor and/or director decide. I don't get this, and I don't much like it. In a normal conversation, when someone is talking to me, they look at me. If they spend a lot of time looking somewhere else while ostensibly talking to me, I get the feeling they aren't very focused on the conversation. Because, apparently, the conversation is not very important to them. I know full well that Jay knows all this, and I am not at all blaming him. I like Jay. :) I can only speculate as to why he allows this in his videos. I am leaning, however, toward "He is very busy and doesn't have time to personally oversee every bit of video that is released."
YourArgumentIsInvalid Perhaps I should have been more clear. I did not mean when he is talking with other people. I meant when he is talking to us, the viewers, like at about 1:20, for example. Of course when other people are onscreen and he is talking with them, he should be looking at them, not "us."
+Jonathan Erickson The millage they're talking about is if you're driving mostly on electrical and not putting the pedal down. But if you drive it for fun (which you should), your gas millage is actually very low.
I have hated Porsche until today! This car is beautiful!!! I have been a life long Ferrari fan, and it just got some serious competition for my attention... Nice work, Porsche!
Yeah same here, I mean, I didn't really hate Porsche, but I didn't care much for them, I really thought they all looked too similar and actually a little dated every year, because they always looked like the previous generation. These past few years though they've improved and are really building nice cars, and they top it off with the 918 which sounds like a 458 on helium, and looks like an updated Carrera GT, I mean you cant go wrong with that combo.
Ricky, yeah... I shouldn't say I hate them. I really just didn't like them. Pretty much for the same reasons you have. It was never a 'good looking' car...the 911 looked like a fast VW bug...
Paul Fournier Yeah, I mean especially when they're in the same market as some Ferrari's, SLR (back in the day) Corvettes, and what not its tough to look better than them, thats when price comes in and is basically whats kept Porsche around was being more affordable than most of the competition for what they're offering.
i dont care what anyone says, the 918 is way sportier and classier than the p1 and laferrari i also heard its faster than the p1, i'm not sure about the Laferrari tho
I personally like it more than the P1 and I haven't driven none of those two. But the Porsche looks better, it has a better equipment, it's maybe a bit slower than the P1 but it propably rides better as well
It looks better than the Koenigsegg, P1,Laferrari... Only Pagani cars make the same childish butterflies in the stomach. Its funny how people only look at speed as the ultimate measurement for enjoying a hypercar, these things are so expensive that people think ten times before driving it on limit. In all honesty they are made for eye candy, street prancing and picking up women. I was never a Porche fan, but this car makes me somewhat an admirer, it has the futuristic styling yet it still looks like it will take off at will.. Love the sound, the interior is not scraped, you get the full treatment.
I'm in love with the color combination. Dark silver paint with black wheels and yellow brakes and black interior with yellow stitching. My Favorite!!!!! 😍❤️
FINALLY, I've been dying to see this one, I think I requested it to. I love the 918, the white one in the vid looks epic. I reckon I would take this over a P1 for everyday driving any day (if I could afford lol). Keep up the great work Jay, it would be amazing if you made an episode with the Toyota FT-1 Concept aka the new Supra :)

I think it's HILARIOUS that Daniel Eastman of Porche considers the loudness of the vehicle to be a safety feature. LOL. That's classic. Tell that to California Highway Patrol in your civic.
Man, this dude Leno is the luckiest guy in the World. You get to do these amazing things and witness history in progress. Regardless of whether you like the Hybrid idea or not, or whether you have a strong opinion on the car, I'm sure we would all love to jump in this baby and put it through it's paces :-) Amazing car.
Awesome show. Thanks Jay and Daniel. I owned a 71 454, frightening scary. Today fortunate to own a Porsche. This is the brand that I trust will take me to eternity.
beto bianchini The P1 looks like an alien space ship, which I think is also really cool, don't get me wrong. The 918 is the more subtle hypercar of the bunch, but that's also why I love it so much. It doesn't scream "look at meeeee" the way the P1, LaFerrari, and Agera do. Just my personal preference of course.
beto bianchini i dotn think you could call it pretty though, the porsche you could i think. i think id be a bit embarresed to drive something like the p1. it looks a bit small penis mobile esq
i like the looks of the P1 better than the 918, i think the porsche design it's a bit boring to modern standards, that's all, it's undeniable pretty but it lacks the sense of occasion of its rivals

Nickolai Siegfried It was an innovation that has turned into a tradition. I believe that is what he was saying.
I have a 71' 914!
How many miles?
Myron Buzzwannanots Not sure im currently restoring it its almost done. I have some pics of it on my ig
Porsche truly knows their game, they created a master piece. This, the P1 and the LaFerrari will be remembered for decades to come. There is a guy here that owns a red 918 here in town and man does it look good.
By far the greatest car I think ever....
best sounding car, best looking car, best performance car. Greatest ever...
Oh boy.
Love the car.
Love TS, Lana and Adele😂
I bet he ended up buying one...god I wish I had Jay's bank account 😍
Samuraisahsah if i had his bank account i wouldnt buy cars
Prostitutes and drugs
dude with his kind of money he 's already flooded with prostitutes and drugs. He probably has a lot more to spare so he spends it on cars. I mean one of these cars could buy you hundreds of high class prostitutes... and he has like hundreds of cars
I'm pretty sure he did not at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have one right now.
Jay doesn't like porsche.
He owns several Porsches already, including the Carrera and the GT you saw at the start of this video, where, incidentally, you also saw him raving about how much he loved this one.
Jay,
Here on Altair, humans were introduced to it in a movie known to you in the1956 movie "Forbidden Planet". It is real and is true as your North Star.
We keep an eye on things considered relevant. This includes, traveling in a faster-than-light means. We see your world divided and on the brink just like ours.
FWIIW, we here on Altair IV very much loved Johnny! And then others came along and we shut it out. We were stuck but we never forgot you. Now, you come along with "Jay Leno's Garage" and in a strange way reminiscent of some of the things we like about Johnny.
We are back monitoring you as you have brought the essence of the things we considered worthy, BRAVO!!!
Please note, we may help you on other faster than light vehicles.

To those on Earth, Forbidden Planet and Altair IV was movie fiction., it is not!
The Krell reached a point where Quantum Biology combined with AI DOOMED THEM!

A story/movie that will profoundly effect the course of humanity into a worthy future.
Have a nice day...
he looks like Carl Sagan
THANK YOU! It was killin' me..
sssukaPSN only read the comments because I wondered if I was the only one!😆🤣
Without Carl’s unique relaxing voice.. much missed man
I am with you
...he probably hears that billions and billions of times...
So Jay Leno bought a car for the clutch? Wow, just wow
I have never been in love with a Porsche so much in my life. The 918 Spyder looks incredible.
Beautiful heel-toe, perfectly done....the guy from Porsche has a sense of humor :)
600 hp out of a 4.6 NA V8 and weighs about as much as a 4 banger?
When did Porsche hire aliens from outer space?
damn thats the media for you. No coverage whatsoever as usual.
That v8 weights about 135 kg (wikipedia said) so it is about 298 lbs
***** I have a Ford small block derived 350CI aluminum V8 that doesn't weigh much more than that.
We call them Germans ;P
Electric mode is extremely important, when the wifey is asleep, and you just happened to sneak out for um, a few minutes.
Haha turn electric on while you're leaving and then off when you get on the road. Good idea actually
+Gregor Miller
Cup Banger
Lmao
Also when the parents fall asleep.
@ILUV2SK8 504 infidelity joke, Sir.
i don't know you guys but to me Jay seems happier since he left the tonight show
One of the very few episodes that Jay has nothing negative to say. Absolutely gorgeous machine.
The way ppl are speaking about this car is amazing seems like it's top dog at the moment
It is, first production car under 7:00 in Nurburgring.
FanOfAttitudeEra the Nurburgring isn’t the best measurement of quality of car in my opinion
The most awesome Porsche I have ever seen.
Without a doubt!!!!!
I just wanted to here the Rep,, say,,, "It's Berry Berry sneaky"
I also like how happy he was at Jay's enjoyment of the car. It's like a happy kid sharing his favorite toy with his friend, and enjoying his friend liking it.
Car is amazing, this representative for Porsche is hilarious too. What a jolly German guy.
He is pretty funny, I think he's Brazilian though.
RamblinAround
Whoops haha.
I like Jay. :)
I can only speculate as to why he allows this in his videos.
I love how he's so happy and complimenting Jay on his heel and toe skills.
For once you can afford a super car without it breaking your bank for gas
+Jonathan Erickson yea cuz if youre a multi millionaire you reallly care about gas idiot
^thx I always forget
+darkg35 true
+darkg35 never know. Don't insult someone. Because from what I know. Every person is different
U liked because it looks like a ferrari
Armani Saeed where does it look like a Ferrari? You can clearly see its similarities with the Carrera GT. It definatly looks like a Porsche.
It's awesome how Porsche takes pride in their cars! This car is probably the best achievement out of the Laferrari P1 and 918
i dont care what anyone says, the 918 is way sportier and classier than the p1 and laferrari i also heard its faster than the p1, i'm not sure about the Laferrari tho
I personally like it more than the P1 and I haven't driven none of those two. But the Porsche looks better, it has a better equipment, it's maybe a bit slower than the P1 but it propably rides better as well
Car is really perfect and this video is 10 years old
_"Porsche, there is no substitute."_
With The Tonight Show no longer a constraint for Leno, any chance they can fire Adam Ferrara from Top Gear USA and give that roll to Leno?
I'd rather have Rutledge Wood replaced by Leno...
no no not Adam Ferrara!! Rutledge yes maybe but i'm really getting used to them i love these guys.
I love Leno, its awesome seeing this guy finishing his career doing what he really loves and doing a great job at it! Best late night guy ever too!
It's fun to see how excited this guy still is about the car with that grin on his face.
Hey, Gru from Despicable Me lost some weight!
I thought I was the only one LOL
This is the car of the future, and ^^ what he said.
I thought the same!!
outstanding engineering.. best of all worlds.
The noise this 918 and the LaFerrari makes just puts the P1 to shame.
Thanks for not blocking this in my country.
Every time Jay nails the throttle this fella breaks into big smile.....great! Whatta car!
...Porsche guy sounds like Gru... LOL
I wuz thinking the same thing!!
spot on with that!!
grrwuff i fly to the moon, i shrink de moon, i take the moon, i sit on the toilet huuhh whaaat?
Or Klaus from American Dad.
Gru sounds like Porsche guy*
I luv this show man, and I would definitely take the 918 over the P1. It's a beauty
LARRY SUGGS Ha yeah man, it's awesome :)
***** sorry i deleted my comment i thought it sounded stupid and you wouldn't reply lol but if you want to ever i mean ever play forza together I would be honored dude my gamer tag is forzawinds123
LARRY SUGGS Cool no probs man :)
***** awesome dude i added you
I think it's HILARIOUS that Daniel Eastman of Porche considers the loudness of the vehicle to be a safety feature. LOL. That's classic. Tell that to California Highway Patrol in your civic.
"it goes arrrghhhhh instead of ighghhhghghg" in regards to the lift kit. Jay you are one class act!
I love american cars, but OMG....what an amazing and beautiful car!!
joshua6200 American cars are gay as hell
I never owned a Porsche but this Beast here is simple amazing.
Awesome show. Thanks Jay and Daniel. I owned a 71 454, frightening scary. Today fortunate to own a Porsche. This is the brand that I trust will take me to eternity.
"Do these wheels have any significance to the 918"?
"Yes these are the wheels for the 918" lmfao
Jay, Jay,....listen....YOU PUT IT BACK !!! Okay?....YOU PUT IT BACK.
(and you can keep your 90 pound girl friend)
Yeah and it's free to put it back :)
;)
Nearly 10 years already. Feels like this just came out with the p1 and laferrari yesterday
By far the best looking of the "hypercars".
i have to disagree... to me the 918 looks to much like the carrera gt, very traditional, the P1 looks way cooler and more espectacular
beto bianchini The P1 looks like an alien space ship, which I think is also really cool, don't get me wrong. The 918 is the more subtle hypercar of the bunch, but that's also why I love it so much. It doesn't scream "look at meeeee" the way the P1, LaFerrari, and Agera do. Just my personal preference of course.
beto bianchini i dotn think you could call it pretty though, the porsche you could i think. i think id be a bit embarresed to drive something like the p1. it looks a bit small penis mobile esq
felix pinto Damn straight. P1 is "impressive", but it's basically hog-ugly.
i like the looks of the P1 better than the 918, i think the porsche design it's a bit boring to modern standards, that's all, it's undeniable pretty but it lacks the sense of occasion of its rivals
Buy it Jay!
Woooo!! That punch to get on the Hwy must have been 25-110 MPH!! In a handful of seconds!!
It's marvelous!
Sorry bugatti veyron ... This is my new dream car now.
Spends the second half of the onramp slowing back down to the speed limit. Incredible and so beautiful.
I absolutely love that car... but that Porsche guy is a freak
Loved it! What a fun and relaxing episode :-)
If only they made more of these and made them affordable. Best Porsche since the 959
in 10 years our cars must have 54+MPG?
good luck with that
Jeff Rose wonder what the price of a gallon will be since the demand will be significantly lower than it is now.
Jeff Rose Impossible lol
Jeff Rose My car does that today... :-)
***** passat bluemotion. Big car with diesel engine.
Jeff Rose will I still be allowed my 7 MPG Dodge charger.
For me the 918 is the best car ever made
Yes
I don’t know anything about most of your cars. But I’m in love with you channel. And I have enjoyed everything you’ve done on television. You’re a forever part of Americana.
Are we going to see a P1 vs. 918 video soon?
that's gonna be epic when they do
Can't wait til the 911 carries its battery pack out past the rear axle for old times sake.
