I have both an older gen 1 IPad Pro and a 2018. There is no way for the Pencil 2 to charge on the older Ipad Pros. The charging is done at the top of the Ipad frame by magnetically attaching to frame-I have both and the original has to be charged via lightning port. Would have been nice since now my gen 2 Pencil is always charged and right there for use, but I understand why they can’t be interchanged.
that's why I hate apple products. they pretty much force you to always upgrade to continue using their stuff.... but my significant other wants the apple pen because they have an apple product and I will still get it for them.

Lol, I know right, we live under a rock with no internet, so we don’t know it charges by proximity and has a silly tap feature (instead of 2 buttons like all artists crave). I’ll just stick with my 1st gen Pencil for now. It’s awesome, and the new one doesn’t have anything I want, just a different appearance and a way to knock it down on the floor easily... and buying another one... but first crying for like an hour...

I think the pencil and the new iPad Pro are overpriced for what they are. I'll wait for the next generation thanks again. If you have an older iPad, obviously you want to get the old pen. If you’re looking to buy a pen and an iPad, it’s your choice. Really it’s just a matter of how much you’re willing to pay. I have the older stuff and it works really well, I don’t see any major differences/problems with the older types. The charging may be ridiculous, but you can buy a charging station for the pen, or use the adapter they brought. And no, it does not break off easily when you charge it via iPad. I don’t believe it’s worth buying a whole new iPad if you already have one though, that’s just ridiculous.
NGL if people charged their pencils from the port, that's pretty dumb. First thing I did was get a dedicated USB cable that has a lightning connector female port that I kept permanently attached to my PC, from eBay which was like £1. Problem solved. I'll get the new IPAD Pro if my current 12.9 Gen 2 dies, but the lack of headphone jack is still stupid.
What they really need to figure out is how to make it feel more like drawing on paper . Even though I'm getting used to it it's still way too slippery to draw on the screen . I know they sell screen protectors that claim to feel more like paper but you have to sacrifice image quality and that's not acceptable

Not sure which 4th gen you are referring to. But all different iPad models from 2018 onwards will support Apple Pencil. You need to get the right Apple Pencil.
Small question Teoh - when drawing with new Apple Pencil did You have problems with different traction in some parts of the screen? And did You have some Small weird noise when drawing line for example, even squeking? Or is your pencil completely silent?

I know the official information on pencil support, there is no inductive charging on old pro and any regular iPads, but is it possible to manually connect the apple pencil gen2 to these devices? And also will the new pro apple pencil gen1 see?
Unfortunately there is no way to use the 2nd gen Apple Pencil with older iPads that support the first gen Apple Pencil. I’m sure Apple has programmed the Apple Pencil to work specifically on certain devices.

Apple Pencil is the best stylus for that iPad. Perhaps check out the refurbished ones from Apple website. Or just save up for it. It really is much better than any alternative (eg Adonit Pixel)

Thanks for your video :) Just what I was looking for. I had the iPad 2018 and the new Pro 11, and I didn't see any differences using them but their design. I prefere the mate texture of the Pencil 2 waaaaaay better. And the charging is also really better than the old system. I'm looking forward to test the iPad Mini. Hope I'll get mine tomorrow. I was waiting for a good 8 inch tablet with stylus and finally I think I found THE ONE. I was so disappointed by all of those I tried : Galaxy Note 8.0 (the tablet not the phone) and Asus Vivo Tab Note 8 were nice but I hated the screen ratio, the Asus Z Stylus on the Zenpad 8.0 had a good ratio but the stylus were just OK (and android apps for drawing are not as good as iOS or Windows) and Dell's Venue 8 Pro had a terrible stylus, very buggy too… Too bad the Pencil 1 is so long and ugly. But at least it's a great stylus :) It will be cool having my Surface Book 2 for Windows and iPad mini as a small drawing device :)

The surface pen has the new Apple Pencil design huh? I love both surface pen and Apple Pencil but I like using my Apple Pencil more if I’m honest. The surface pens button isn’t good and neither it’s shape. Hopefully this new Apple Pencil is comfy though
Hello, I’ve the pencil 1 and what I don’t understand, when I arrive in Africa , it doesn’t work anymore after like 1 or 2 month. Do you know if it’s normal? First when I bought it, it does the same but couldn’t recharge it with the cable anymore. When I showed it to appel, they told me I can recharge it on my IPad, what I did and it worked. Now that the garantie finished, the pencil doesn’t work any more, even if I recharge it on an other ipad.... it’s really frustrating!!! Can you give me your thoughts about it... plz
Sounds like the battery may be spoilt. When you charge the Apple Pencil on the iPad, take note of how fast the battery life drops with normal usage. Note that you will have to pair Apple Pencil each time with your iPad if you switch off Bluetooth.

It was on the first time, the problem because I couldn’t recharge it anymore but now the problem is that the connection doesn’t exist anymore. Why get an Apple Pencil with pressure sensitivity if most real drawing apps already have pressure sensitivity? Is an Apple Pencil just MORE precise? Because I feel like I can get that thin-to-thick effect with just my finger. Or any stylus
You need both a pen with pressure and an app with pressure support. Line tests like that with your finger is useless. Try drawing with your finger in real life, like you would normally with a real pen or pencil, then compare your finger to having a proper pen.
So you can't even change the new one with the usb cord? I usually do that if I don't feel like sticking my pencil in the iPad pro 2017 (which I still get nervous about !!)

No definite answer as it depends on how often you draw. When the tip changes shape, it's time to change. It's like how when you use a wooden pencil, the tip will wear off. Cheaper replacement tips can be found on eBay.
iPad Pro would offer better drawing experience, but is significantly more expensive. If you draw occasionally, just get the cheaper tablet, Tab S3 or S4

I broke the tip of my 1st gen and used tweezers i tried to get the broken part with was stuck in the pencil still, honestly harders game of operation ever, anyways long story short, it doesnt work now :l

I just tried the new one today and I could've swore I was drawing on paper, I think they definitely did something to either screen or nibs.
You can get a screen protector for the iPad which makes it feel like paper

How about the latency of the new pencil compare to the old one? There are some different?
You get exactly the same performance except the extra tapping shortcuts and charging mechanism.

Pencil 2 has a matte surface tip. But when drawing, the feeling is no different from the semi-glossy one of Apple Pencil 1.

You need to turn on Bluetooth. Then connect Apple Pencil buy putting it in the port. Each time you turn on Airplane mode you have to pair again.
Anyone know if it is possible to disable the charging of the pencil while it is magnetically attached?
I don't want to ruin the battery, I leave it attached almost all day
Not sure if you can do that. Maybe just don't attach it?
I found that if you turn off the bluetooth and attach the pencil, it doesn't charge :)

I broke the tip of my 1st gen and used tweezers i tried to get the broken part with was stuck in the pencil still, honestly harders game of operation ever, anyways long story short, it doesnt work now :l
@ 2:45 I find the pencil to tip much softer and rubbery than the pencil 1: creates welcome drag
and eliminates "tappy-ness"

The tips are same shape and length, and interchangeable.

The new Apple Pencil only works with the new iPad Pros. The Apple Pencils are not interchangeable.
