I'm surprised how you forgot the most important feature.... pressure sensitivity Thats a total dealbreaker man... should've at least mentioned it in this long video
The Logitech Crayon is for people who mainly need to take notes, annotate PDF and don't want to pay the 🍎 Tax. Artists should stick with the Apple Pencil mainly for it's pressure sensitivity.
I know the Logitech Crayon is a amazing stylus for the IPad Pro but I like drawing and the pressure/tilt sensitivity of the 1st and 2nd gen Apple Pencil is a great plus for me! But for general note taking the Logitech Crayon is good!
I am not an artist and I use my iPad for educational and entertainment purposes only. I’ve used the Logitech crayon for months before I got the first generation Apple Pencil, and I can say that the difference is very noticeable. The Apple Pencil feels better in the hand and, for me, it encourages better handwriting. The tap on the screen is quieter, as well. I really enjoy the pressure sensitivity when using different pen types on my note taking app, which I only learned were different from one another when using the Apple Pencil, the Logitech crayon makes them all write the same. The Logitech crayon is the safer choice but the Apple Pencil is the better choice. (I have the 2019 iPad Air and I use Goodnotes 5)
The way the crayon 'connects' to a device is it's an active stylus meaning when you power it on that electricity goes to a coil nearly at the tip of the pencil Wich then connects to a tip and so on. Hope this helped to clear up some questions
my logitech crayon review. if you’re buying for art purposes, you’ll probably be fine. there’s no pressure sensitivity but i’ve learnt to get used to it and it’s honestly really nice to work with. if you’re heavily involved in art, the apple pencil may be your best bet, but the logitech is great too if you’re on a budget. if you’re buying for work purposes / other, then definitely go for this one. it works very well and is nicely fit in hands. it doesn’t have many shortcuts like the apple pencil as well. while the only real con would be no pressure sensitivity, and no shortcuts, it’s a really good buy to save a bunch of money.
@@Syphus323 But if you're just taking notes I honestly think both of these pens are too expensive. For art, pressure sensitivity is a pretty big deal. For taking notes, I think the $70 is still a lot of money to pay for a stylus and I'd rather just pay $100 for a 1st gen Apple pencil. If you can find the Logitech for $50 or less, I can see that being a worthwhile investment if you don't care about making digital art.
in my opinion, not worth for the 2018 pro iPad. You already paid at least 750+ Euro, quickly reaching over 1000€ (256gb, or even 12,9") + more maybe for cases/covers, bags, etc. But those downsides just to save the 70 last bucks? - no pressure sensetivity - no double tap feature - NO Possibility to charge it when you're on the go. (while pencil 2 charges the best way possible + is quite securely stored when carrying it around) - on Lightning iPads you need an adapter. You could have a better experience buying the last Gen iPad Pro + pencil 1. gen, than iPad Pro 2018 + crayon I think, people who buy the iPad 2018 32gb, to keep the cost minimal (for school/study), this is fine. But still, pressure sensetivity + better charging on the go for 89€ instead 59€.. it's worth it. Unless you really don't care about pressure sensetivity for writing. Crayon should cost 39€, that would be a very decent prices for the downsides + make it very appealing for education and students. But your last argument is really something. If you have multiple iPads (one beeing iPad Pro 2018), spending 60€ for the crayon, instead buying the apple pencil 1 AND 2, is really valid :)
I really appreciate that you took the time to write such a detailed comment with the point that is all valid! An Apple Pencil 2 is nearly double the price. And with all the disappointments I had with other third-party styluses, the Crayon was a real surprise for me! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us! Tom
They should’ve skipped the tilt instead of pressure sensitivity. Pressure sensitivity makes it more natural to write the tilt is only used for pencil shading or specific art uses.

I have to agree with a lot of the negative responses.. I bought the 11”pro not too long ago to replace a paper notes and sketch stuff for projects.. and swallowed the price for the Apple Pencil 2 thinking it was nothing special. And I wouldn’t give it up for anything, it’s superior to the 3rd party offerings. Not only because they simply can’t do most of what the apple one can You fail to show the fundamental reason why the apple pen 2 wouldn’t be better with current gen IPad Pro in functionally... the crayon isn’t as good because it doesn’t have most of the features that made the apple one so Great.. I have literally never had the “double tap” happen randomly.. The pressure sensitivity is completely missing on the crayon. The grey does not work with some iPads in the same way that there are 2 versions of the Apple Pencil in that the 1st Gen works with some models & the 2nd Gen works with others.
And yet, tablets are known for multitouch capability. Go on and press your point if you can draw with 4 of these, or you think I'm being a horrible ableist who has a finger or toe that functions on capsense screens. (TBH people with dry hands, e.g. 90+ year olds, have this problem.)
@@ashleyhannahandmiabarreras3781 mabey people think this because he is telling people that the logictech is amazing and better than the apple pencil which is the biggest lie because they may be expensive but apple knows how to make top quality stuff
I had the Logitech and it is a great pen! If you are going to use it for just note taking and are on a budget, get the Logitech and if you aren’t on a budget get the Apple Pencil. But there really isn’t no difference if you just want it for note taking like for school.
The Crayon - except for its price which it is about $50 cheaper - has only disadvantages compared to apple pencil. Cable charging, awkward shape, NO PRESSURE SENSITIVITY, no double tap, no magnets, etc. Do not recommend a product that doesn't worth it.
If you compare the price and product Crayon to other thrid party products available from Wacom or Adonit that cost even the same price as the Apple Pencil it self, I think it is worth recommending if someone is looking for a cheaper alternative that works on all the iPads (which the Apple Pencil does not).
The pressure sensitivity characteristic is a primary characteristic of an electronic pen, so it should be mentioned in the video. All in all, I find this video biased if not misleading. This is only my opinion.
I agree, if all you are looking for is a “dumb” pencil to scratch around in a notepad app you can get a dumb pencil as cheap as $10. But like all the “just as good as Apple but cheaper” type videos the things you lose with the cheaper option is either glazed over or completely omitted. There is cheap and there is good but not often do you find both in the same product.
I bought the Apple Pencil 2 today for notetaking in university and don’t need the pressure sensitivity, if I knew beforehand I would have bought the Logitech Crayon
Heyy! I have a small request if it's possible, would you like to show me how your notes look like with the apple pencil? Cuz I'm about to do the same I need an iPad along with the apple pencil for university but I'm still hesitating 😅 Thank you
Just found out this didn’t support pressure sensitivity. I needed an Apple iPad for school and a pencil and I wanted to try it out for my art works and I was disappointed. I just wanted to buy something cheaper while we were outside
I’m an artist and I’ve learned to get by without pressure sensitivity, so the lack of such a feature really isn’t a complete deal breaker for me. Plus I have the ipad air, not the ipad pro. And buying a brand new ipad pro just for a new stylus seems like a waste to me. Maybe when my current ipad breaks I’ll consider the ipad pro for the apple pencil. But only then.
I know that someone had mentioned that Logitech is an official partner, but the Crayon was developed in partnership with Apple. It is essentially a stripped down Apple Pencil that uses a proprietary connection system that was designed for the classroom. Pencils don’t need to be paired with individual devices, they just work with whichever iPad they’re closest too. They were introduced at the Apple Event at the school in Chicago, I believe and were originally only available for educational purchase. So the reason that it blows away all of the other third party styluses is because it is an Apple Pencil, it’s just missing some of the fancier features like pressure sensitivity.
Ha! I thought I was trip’n. I forgot the video was able the Apple Pen ✒️ and started asking myself what is an Eppi pencil. Oh laughing 🤣 so hard right now
The only problem with this is that Apple could decide at any moment or update to ban or take away the ability to use any other pen devices but theirs in the software. It’s pretty lame but it’s a smart business move to basically FORCE animators and illustrators to buy a $129 (before tax) Apple Pencil
Apple is partners with Logitech and they licensed Apple Pencil technology to Logitech so it requires no pairing and besides pressure sensitivity and the tap function it works as if it were an Apple Pencil. They sell the Crayon in Apple Stores and on the Apple website and will not be making updates to ban the Crayon.
Magnetic charging and pressure sensitivity are super important to me, but another favorite feature of the Apple Pencil 2 is that you can double tap the pencil itself with your finger to quickly switch between Brush and Eraser in Procreate. Does the Crayon have that touch feature?
I have apple pencil and use it for drawing and never regret it at all, i bought the other brand and return it back after couple minutes of using it. If u want to use it for drawing, none of them can beat apple pencil. But for ‘note taking’ then doesn’t matter, you can use any of them.
It is unfortunate that you didn't mention pressure sensitivity until the comments, but for folks thinking about buying a pencil for note taking, the lower price makes the Logitech a good choice. The important issues for me are palm rejection and speed, and the Logitech apparently scores on both counts. Thanks very much for making this video; it was very helpful for me.
Thanks for your great comment! I agree Crayon is the first third party stylus that has the same Palm Rejection and speed capabilities as the Apple Pencil 👍
As an artist, i can’t profess enough on how IMPORTANT pressure sensitivity is for digital art. Sure a pro artist or someone with enough experience of not using pressure sensitivity can make do…. However it just is not meant to artists. If ur buying a pencil just for notes taking. Sure, go ahead!!
I have an iPad 8th Gen and an Apple Pencil 1st Gen and there is a widget which is easily installed on the Home Screen which gives you the charging status for the iPad’s internal battery and also that of the Apple Pencil. This widget loses connection to the Apple Pencil however which I think means that when the Apple Pencil is not in use, it goes to sleep and therefore does not show on the widget. It easily wakes up when you touch it to the Home Screen. I can charge the pencil either via the adapter to the lightning cable or the bottom port on the iPad for its own charging. I prefer t use the cable as the connection to the iPad charging port isn’t strong enough to hold it against gravity. The pencil is sturdy but who knows how many times it drops that you can continue to use it. I do not have a Logitech Crayon so if the charging widget on the home page would work with it, have no idea. A nice thing I have found with the Apple Pencil and am sure this would also work with the Crayon, is to use it with a plastic ruler to mark up charts in Acrobat .pdf app. This creates a moveable highlight is you are keeping track of progress while following a chart. Though I am an artist, I do enjoy the touch sensitivity though I do not use it that often. But if something is only different by $30, and then it is a genuine Apple product, it isn’t that hard to want a pencil which will fit in the case you get to hold the iPad and give it a laptop-like keyboard with trackpad. This feature of keeping the pencil on the side of the case, made my decision over a bulkier pencil which is what the Logitech Crayon is.
I didnt know why the shading on the crayon rubbed me the wrong way until I came to the comments and saw that it didnt have pressure sensitivity. I was just trying to make sure I wasn’t being biased to the brand but as an artist I really do need to just invest in the apple pencil 😅
The big problem that my friend had with the Logitech crayon at school was that he could not keep up with it because he could not find a case that would hold it unlike Apple pencils. It is very easy to find a case that holds an Apple Pencil. He lost it within 2 weeks. He told me to just go ahead and get an Apple Pencil instead.
You’ll need pressure sensitivity. Maybe for note taking not so much, but for drawing you definitely need it. I switched off the double tap, so I agree that is one thing we can live without. I still think the Spen from Samsung is better. Shame Android is so clunky compared to iOS
I also like pressure sensitive for note taking. Because I need to write fast in class and thus my ink is usually connected. Without pressure sensitive it is hard to read.
If you have an iPad Pro and want to use it to at least some of what it is capable of, then spring for the proper apple pencil for it. Not doing that is like having a cat and expecting it to act like a dog - it's never going to be quite the same.
Problem is a lot of us non-artists don’t need pressure sensitivity just accuracy to write with. The crayon is $90 here in canada and the Apple Pencil is $130 or refurbished for $105. So what the hell is the point of giving up pressure for $15 savings...woohoo. This crayon needs to cost $30. Is there any alternative that is accurate enough to write but not pressure sensitive?
Apple Pencil doesn’t need led to show need to charge, the iPad gives a pop up warning it’s at 5%. Also with the pencil 2 it’s wireless charging, so no cable needed.
It would be better if you would have shown the comparision in slow motion.Because you demo in a very fast hand writing, nothing can be said about actual latency..But overall logitech crayon seems impressive option.
For information ... other alternatives WITH pressure-sensitivity AND bluetooth: "Adonit Pixel", "Adonit Pixel Pro", "Wacom Bamboo Fineline 3", and "Wacom Bamboo Sketch" ... in europe their price start at 50 euro. Unfortunately they don't seem to support angled-thicker-drawing, and unfortunately they also uses bluetooth.
in reality, the apple pencil double tap doesn't make mistakes, cuz you have a time limit between the two taps, so this gesture is possible to activate only with an intentional movement
the "magic" it uses to connect without pairing is that it is simply a powered capacitive stylus which is also why it doesn't have pressure sensitivity or tilt angle detection. it uses "apple tech" as in the powered tip, not smart parts that detect all the advanced things and communicate those back to the ipad.
@@DanielHarrisCodes in theory yes. in practice no. from what i've read, to save battery it uses that same circuit to only power the tip when it detects a "supported device". The official compatibility list is: iPad (6th gen), iPad Air (3rd gen), iPad mini (5th gen), and iPad Pro (3rd gen)
there are powered capacitive stylus available for most devices from third parties. (some even have tilt and pressure support via BT, look up reviews first for the specific combo you are interested in, results are mixed for art level work, usually fine for notes etc.)
so I bought the crayon for my iPad Pro 10.5 because of your 'great' review on the crayon. IT DOESN'T work on the older iPads. you know that means you beter get this video offline, or make a new one.
There is an updated video going into much more details: 🤔 Is The Apple Pencil Worth It For Non Artists In 2019 ruclips.net/video/fC6N0d8HvxA/видео.html
Funny, I took my Crayon yesteday to the shop to try it out on an ipad pro 2018, and was real happy it work quite well. Am using my crayon on the ipad mni 5 gen. and I must say, I am quite amazed by it, regardless of the couple of limitations...
The fact that you have to carry a lightning cable and charge it and to turn it on and carry the crayon etc... and the lack of pressure sensitivity makes it pretty much not an option either for artists or anyone who likes convenience
8:38 there's no technology behind it Tom, it's only the iPad Pro doesn't accept any other entries from any other pencil once there's an actively connected Apple Pencil to the device and once disconnected, you then can use another dozen of compatible pens like Logitech or any other brand in the same time which is what I'm currently doing, I have 2 compatible pencils non branded and one Apple Pencil, once I disconnect the Apple Pencil; the other two pencils works both in same time without any issues. Hopefully that Helps ;)
No pressure sensitivity ....definitely no! It’s a big deal for writing experience, it makes ur writing without soul! I don’t agree with ur double tapping thing, it’s super handy and I’ve never had any issue that u mentioned. Your video isn’t professional tbh.
You are right! I pinned an equal comment like yours to the top of the comments section already. I also updated the description to point this out! So stupid...that I missed mentioning this......🤦🏻♂️
I think you just need Bluetooth for the pressure sensitivity, the pressure feature won’t work on the Adonit Note+ either without Bluetooth. All of the pencil alternatives which just use the pen-technology will work after disconnecting a Bluetooth pen. (So it appeared to myself.)
What's the point of this video? You talks for 15 (!) minutes and you don't mention that this Logitech has not pressure sensitivity! You'd better delete this video.
I still think Apple Pencil technology is a game changer when it comes to digital drawing and writing. With the Logitech Crayon the same technology is now available for a lower price, but without compromises in quality. Do you agree, or am I completely wrong here?
Hi Tom, Great video as usual! I also just watched a comparison by AppleInsider and they claimed that the Crayon doesn't support pressure sensitivity. If that is true it would be a big negative for creative work. Do you know if this is true?
Great vid. I just wish that the pens that Logitech and apple design would utilize both ends of the pens! Wouldn’t be cool if you could format one end as an eraser and the other the pen function .
@@RRKPL unfortunately, I totally forgot to mention this...................I pinned the comment from @Franisco Matus so people will read this first in the comments section. I will also add it to the description now!
I use ibis a free app and it’s amazing and well since my poor butt could only beg for an iPad for Christmas while seeing the Apple pen pretty expensive and yet I draw with a diy pen XD
Less expensive iPad... Cheaper is an insult. Actually not a less expensive iPad, just not an iPad Pro. It is the same iPad as usual, at the same retail price, but with pencil support.
Yes, there’s no light indicator on the Apple Pencil 2 that indicates the battery life like there is on the Logitech crayon... but it’s convenient placement on the side of the iPad that charges it as well as tells you the battery percentage far outweighs a battery light indicator. Not a very reasonable argument.

And yet, tablets are known for multitouch capability. Go on and press your point if you can draw with 4 of these, or you think I'm being a horrible ableist who has a finger or toe that functions on capsense screens. (TBH people with dry hands, e.g. 90+ year olds, have this problem.)
@@OliverQueen1974 they all work the same

Tom Solid's #PaperlessMovement Idk man, youtube put a paid advertisement disclaimer
Sadly my Apple Pencil 1 is not pairing any more it just says “pairing took to long make sure your Apple Pencil is in range”
@@paperlessmovement
I primarily agree with 'Polydoros Katharakis', but this is true
The pressure sensitivity characteristic is a primary characteristic of an electronic pen, so it should be mentioned in the video. All in all, I find this video biased if not misleading. This is only my opinion.
I agree, if all you are looking for is a “dumb” pencil to scratch around in a notepad app you can get a dumb pencil as cheap as $10. But like all the “just as good as Apple but cheaper” type videos the things you lose with the cheaper option is either glazed over or completely omitted. There is cheap and there is good but not often do you find both in the same product.
Agreed. Good Comment 👍

LMFAO!!!! I see what you did there
I bought the Apple Pencil 2 today for notetaking in university and don’t need the pressure sensitivity, if I knew beforehand I would have bought the Logitech Crayon
Thanks for sharing. But as you own the Apple pencil already now, I am sure you don’t want to use anything else anymore😉👍
Tom Solid's #PaperlessMovement yep ist ganz schon geil aber teuer, tippe mal drauf, dass du deutsch bist?
Heyy! I have a small request if it's possible, would you like to show me how your notes look like with the apple pencil? Cuz I'm about to do the same I need an iPad along with the apple pencil for university but I'm still hesitating 😅 Thank you
Logitech is an official Apple partner so it's nice to see shared components like the tip and the structure under the tips, connection tech, etc...
Yep! Thanks for pointing that out! 😉👍
Nasexsav Kifs wait a second... you’re telling me if i get an ipad air I can’t use an Apple Pencil with it?!
Mrs Mendes you can use first gen but not the newest version
Are you actually making money off art…cause I don’t think anyone who does would short change themselves and miss out on pressure sensitivity.
You are 100% correct! 👍

Who all are listening “Apple Pencil” as “Epic Pencil”.
Also "lowy-jet cry on" at 2:15
Magnetic charging and pressure sensitivity are super important to me, but another favorite feature of the Apple Pencil 2 is that you can double tap the pencil itself with your finger to quickly switch between Brush and Eraser in Procreate. Does the Crayon have that touch feature?
It doesn't have any of the good features the Apple Pencil has, for such a high price it's basically a stylus.
How can this “cryon “ be considered better than the Pencil if it doesn’t have pressure sensitivity?!
Ed Perry idk man
for taking notes and day to day life .... i am a 3d artist , pressure senstivity won't matter to me but saving moneydo
Its like saying how can the apple pencil be considered better than the crayon if it doesnt have a power button?! MORON
It’s fun to watch the LED grid in the background during all the jump cuts.
It was just a matter of time until this comment pops up 😅
I was afraid of not being able to replace the tip on the Logitech Crayon! Thank you so much for this information!!!
IMO the best case for the iPad Pro is Zugu. I have one and it is great 👍
I have an iPad 8th Gen and an Apple Pencil 1st Gen and there is a widget which is easily installed on the Home Screen which gives you the charging status for the iPad’s internal battery and also that of the Apple Pencil.
This feature of keeping the pencil on the side of the case, made my decision over a bulkier pencil which is what the Logitech Crayon is.
it looks like it doesn't have any pressure sensitivity nor tilt recognition.... Apple Pencil is better for notes or drawing.
I didnt know why the shading on the crayon rubbed me the wrong way until I came to the comments and saw that it didnt have pressure sensitivity. I was just trying to make sure I wasn’t being biased to the brand but as an artist I really do need to just invest in the apple pencil 😅
No pressure sensitivity?
I think that LED indicator is a little bit useless 'cause you can see the battery life in the widget...so I don't think it's a BIG advantage.
Agree 👍
Just “z tip” got me “cryin”
The big problem that my friend had with the Logitech crayon at school was that he could not keep up with it because he could not find a case that would hold it unlike Apple pencils. It is very easy to find a case that holds an Apple Pencil. He lost it within 2 weeks. He told me to just go ahead and get an Apple Pencil instead.
It’s not the same. Price is higher but it’s not bad.
Pressure sensitivity is a total deal breaker for me :/
Problem is a lot of us non-artists don’t need pressure sensitivity just accuracy to write with.
Haha man hört so krass das du deutsch bist 😅😂

It would be better if you would have shown the comparision in slow motion.Because you demo in a very fast hand writing, nothing can be said about actual latency..But overall logitech crayon seems impressive option.
You are right, but trust me if I say you wouldn’t recognize any difference when it comes down to latency 👍
Hi Tom. I'm one of the people who asked for the review of the crayon. Thanks very much.
You are very welcome! 💚 💙 Thanks for letting me know that it actually works with the iPadPro2018 now! :)
Focus man, I thought this was a review on the crayon!
in reality, the apple pencil double tap doesn't make mistakes, cuz you have a time limit between the two taps, so this gesture is possible to activate only with an intentional movement
The Crayon connects via a propietary radio connection, that’s why it doesn’t appear in the Bluetooth section
Thanks! It is awesome having valuable members like you in the #PaperlessMovement 😉👍
the "magic" it uses to connect without pairing is that it is simply a powered capacitive stylus which is also why it doesn't have pressure sensitivity or tilt angle detection. it uses "apple tech" as in the powered tip, not smart parts that detect all the advanced things and communicate those back to the ipad.
Joshua Jarman Does that mean the crayon works with all iPads, even those without Apple Pencil 1/2 support?
IT DOESN'T work on the older iPads. you know that means you beter get this video offline, or make a new one.
thank you for the heads up, was just about to order one.

🤔 Is The Apple Pencil Worth It For Non Artists In 2019 ruclips.net/video/fC6N0d8HvxA/видео.html
Funny, I took my Crayon yesteday to the shop to try it out on an ipad pro 2018, and was real happy it work quite well. Am using my crayon on the ipad mni 5 gen. and I must say, I am quite amazed by it, regardless of the couple of limitations...
I like how ppl have to buy cheap ripoffs of apple products
But they don’t need to with Android products cuz they are actually affordable
The fact that you have to carry a lightning cable and charge it and to turn it on and carry the crayon etc... and the lack of pressure sensitivity makes it pretty much not an option either for artists or anyone who likes convenience
Tom can you compare Liquid text VS marginNotes.
İ like Apple pencils, they are good for artists.
So are normal styluses there literally the SAME!
but some stylus like this one doesn’t have a pencil pressure or whatever it’s called while the apple pencils have it

No pressure sensitivity ....definitely no! It’s a big deal for writing experience, it makes ur writing without soul! I don’t agree with ur double tapping thing, it’s super handy and I’ve never had any issue that u mentioned. Your video isn’t professional tbh.
Also if you are buying 2018 iPad Pro it charges on usb c not lightning cable. So with this pen you would need to buy charger separately
Logitech says that there’s no Pressure Sensitivity. Hard press equals darker line, not available.
You'd better delete this video.
riccagianna your right %10000
Buy apple pencil is just little bit more expensive....plus this has low battery life...apple has quality

Logitech worked with Apple on this and it even was presented with cheaper iPad - as a perfect cheap version for students
Thanks for pointing this out! Your comment is much appreciated 💚💙
Apple pens do have pressure sensitivity though....
