If you want to quit coffee, switch to half caffeine coffee. After a week, reduce the amount of half caff for another week before quitting all together. This will avoid the worse withdraw symptoms.
no way people actualy struggle with coffee. i drink it through the week but dont touch it in the weekends and i have never felt anything close to withdraw symptoms
@@Eriquee well, i hate to tell you but your not every person, nor is everyone like you, just because you don’t struggle with something doesn’t mean the same for most people.
@@Tacobellcramps I did this when I was trying to get pregnant. Be warned, I was grumpy especially when taking the next steps, but I didn't get the headache. I strongly recommend against using decaf to quit.
This worked for me except I did the phases in 2 week periods of time, then traded off to tea with lemon, slowly watering down to tea until I was basically drinking lemon water. By then I was fully off coffee and tea and felt great.
I quit caffeine 3 weeks ago. My anxiety has lessened, I sleep more and am able to wake up earlier and without feeling awful. I stand by quitting caffeine and the good thing about it is there are a lot of caffeine free products. (update: I haven't had caffeine in 9 months, still worth it) (Update 2023: I Hadn't had caffeine for over a year until I started a new job and started drinking it again, I quit again and It has improved everything yet again) (Update 2024: Caffeine free for 3 years and now back on it. Got promoted in my job and went full time. Started drinking caffeine heavily again. It helps with managing through the day but I find my sleep is suffering along with my mood. Should I quit again?)
Same that's true, i thought it was because of my diet that cause my insomnia and anxiety, i started keto nothing change. I decided to stop drinking coffee it was life changing I became normal again my anxiety was gone, I sleep very well again.
Amen brother! Best decision I made was to quit. I feel so much better in mind and in body I am more productive, energetic and feel rested. My sleep has improved tremendously and I wake up feeling energised and ready to tackle the day. My work productivity has dramatically increased. My mind clarity is like never before. I feel calm, relaxed and happier in general. I highly recommend anyone reading this to take the plunge and quit caffeine and see how it goes. I can almost guarantee you will have the same reaction as I have and will make a positive decision of quitting this drug. Ps. I do still consume cacao which I believe has some trace elements of caffeine in it, but nowhere near what Coffee has and I still feel amazing whilst enjoying chocolate.😋😋😋
Can confirm. I’ve been drinking coffee for 10 years straight now and just stopped. I’ve had splitting migraines and been nailed with existential crises all day.
Hang in there. You will perhaps lose a few pounds without effort due to no longer retaining so much water. I went eight weeks with headaches before they subsided, but you are not me and likely won't suffer so long. I drank soda, not coffee, and I quit because my teeth were being ruined by the stuff (I've had that issue since fixed as well, as it has been years since I quit soda). Cold turkey is a rough road, but I didn't even miss soda once the headaches were gone. Still don't. Hate coffee and tea, so since then it's just been water only.
Two weeks since I've quit coffee, Cons : I crave it sometimes I feel a little deenergized despite being more productive (the lack of those coffee kicks ) I sleep one hour more Slight Headaches from withdrawal Pros : No more digestion problems I sleep early and easy I wake up a lot more energetic and I don't feel dead in the morning Reduced stress and anxiety to degrees I didn't think possible and I had never attributed those to coffee before.
@@OSS976 Not a good idea for several reasons. 1. All decaf will do is make you wanna drink regular coffee might as well kick the habit and learn to live without drinking it. 2. Decaf has a very, very small amount of caffeine in it. Not enough to notice, but why would you put your brain through that? 3. The solution sounds akin to telling an alcoholic to drink non-alcoholic beer.
I was a daily coffee drinker, I looked forward to it every morning. It took 2 weeks to finally feel normal again after quitting. Glad I did, I can think better and less stress/anxiety. It’s a drug folks, you all fell for it too.
This was so inspiring! I’m on day three of no coffee. I woke up an hour and a half ago and they already want to go to sleep. Before I reached for the caffeine, I decided to look up videos on caffeine withdrawals. This help me feel more normal.
I stopped drinking coffee months ago and I feel so much better, more productive and less jittery. My main motive to stop drinking coffee was because I wanted my teeth to stay whiter after I got them whitened professionally as well as maintaining a more youthful look.
Came to this video as i'm day 4 of quitting coffee/soda and with a splitting headache, shakiness, anxiety and lethargic. This video gave me a lot of information I wish I knew when I was going to start this. The illustration of the guy on withdrawal looks how I feel right now lol. You don't truly realize how bad caffeine really is for your body until you experience the withdrawal.
"You don't truly realize how bad caffeine really is for your body until you experience the withdrawal." It is the most widely consumed unregulated drug on the planet, it is the PERFECT drug for capitalism. It all starts making sense. I live by "if everyone is doing it then it probably isn't good for you."
I been off the caffeine for 3 weeks and two days and let me tell you. The first week and a half was brutal. But now I’m cleaner and clear. My skin is better looking and my sleep is so good that I wake up ready to go off of natural energy. Never going back.
I quit drinking soda and stopped smoking cigarettes years ago. Think it’s time to stop drinking energy drinks! Thanks for the awesome video! Keep it up!
Stop the energy drinks. After a while, your heart will absolutely thank you. Your lungs thank you already for stopping cigarettes. Your teeth thank you for stopping the soda, but there's something to be said about the effect of energy drinks on your teeth as well...not good ones.
Having just quit caffeine “cold Turkey” I can say it took about 9 days for me to return back to normal. I drank 3 cups of coffee and an energy drink every day. Day 2-5 are the worst. Put aside some time where you can sleep or rest whenever you need too for day 2-5. Hang in there! And Let’s go!!
I'm on day 2 of cold turkey. Yesterdays headache was pretty rough. Had me in bed basically the entire time. I'm shocked now on day 2 how bad my body feels in general. Feels like I have the flu. I'm also fasting, only drinking water and herbal tea, no caffine or sugar. So i'm sure that contributes a bit. I planned on cold turkeying my marijuana consumption as well but given the headaches/body aches I caved. Maybe once I'm passed these caffine withdrawls and done with the fast I'll trying stopping the marijuana. Idk folks i'm pretty alarmed at how physically dependant I am on caffine. I've struggled with other drug addictions in the past, but those were "bad" drugs right? After withdrawl symptoms this bad i'm tempted to lump caffine in with the other "bad" drugs.
My experience is so similar to yours. I'm on day 3 and spent the entire day in bed with a throbbing headache. Day 1 I had a migraine, nausea, and vomiting. I just want this to be over! I am never drinking coffee again. I now understand why drug addicts cave in and use again. Withdrawal is so awful. @@garrettpatten6312
Stick with it - it does get better. Eventually you'll feel so much better without it you'll be wondering why you didn't quit sooner. Life is actually so much better without caffeine - and I'm someone who was addicted to it for many years. I just had no idea that I was addicted to something that really wasn't benefitting me in the long or the short term. Good luck with it!
This is exactly what I experienced when I decided to reduce my caffeine intake to rare/occasional. It was awful, but so worth it! A single caffeinated beverage now gives me a valuable boost on special (1 time) occasions, stronger than the daily boost ever was. I also feel better and have more endurance for basic tasks than I did when caffeinated.
I'm going to reduce to rare occasions 👍 I would make a big flask of black cafetiere coffee and sip throughout the day, so had a constant intake of caffeine. Just realised this might be the cause of dry skin and hair. Have you noticed an improvement in appearance?
@@merrittman I'll have a soda or even energy drink on occasion (once or twice a month on average), but I had essentially none for over 6 months until I felt right again. The caffeine crash is still a thing later that day, but not as bad as before, and I haven't had any next day issues.
@@chillaxter13 that's good to hear. I myself also quit about a month ago just due to stomach issues mostly. I'm afraid to try having one again though. I think I'll stick with my decaf and hot chocolates from McDonald's ahaha. One thing I noticed though, I'm not anxious or clenching my teeth anymore since quitting as well!
I tried two years ago, in the summer to stop drinking black tea, I lasted for five days, had the headache for days 2-4, but returned due to not being able to sleep on night five (this made me feel a lot more tired). I am now looking to quit again, have been reducing the amount, but now waking tired, tired for the rest of the day. Havent had the shakes, headache, or the rest as yet. But even now my mood is better, and I do not feel bad as I would do on a higher amount of tea - I am quite sensitive to it. This video is good as iy is quite detailed, and thorough.
My god such a relief to read these. I have switched to decaff 24 hrs ago and have felt so tired all day, took all I had to drag myself round the park, spiralling thoughts of existential proportions. 7pm and now a splitting headache.
This year i quit alcohol, sugar and carbs. Now I am getting off coffee after drinking it for 40 years! I had no idea the effect on estrogen and energy levels. Can't wait to get to the other side!
For me, I used to drink coffee every single day for years. This was just because I liked it. I never really felt addicted to coffee, and when I stopped drinking coffee I never really had any symptoms but that’s just me.
I think it matters how much you drink, I often do a cup or two a day and have no issues. I can stop whenever I want without issue. It’s the people who drink 4+ a day which start to have problems. I had a physics teacher once who drank so much coffee when he would not have it for a day he would get sick.
Been drinking coffee since I was a kid and decided to see what happens if I stopped. I basically spent the whole day sleepy and unable to concentrate, slept for 15 hours straight (and woke up sleepy). This went on for about a week. Now, 2 weeks later, I think my body has adjusted. My goal is 4 months.
I stopped drinking coffee yesterday and because I had a mild headache today I wanted to look up some info and stumbled across this video. This explains the headache, which I usually never have. Looking forward to keeping it up, bought some nice 'morning herbal tea' and just take it easy 😊
I had to give up caffeine entirely due to anxiety. My withdrawal wasn't as bad just because it felt so good that my anxiety wasn't going off all the time.
I stopped drinking coffee. I used to drink litres of coffee each day, from morning until I go to bed. It was hard. But it changed my life. It changed it more than quitting smoking or alcohol actually. Coffee was originally a way for employers to get more out of their staff. They’d give you 15 minutes and a drug so that you’d have higher productivity when you came back to work. I’ve even quit hard drugs and nothing had a better effect than quitting coffee. Not to mention I save thousands a year not buying a cup every 2 hours.
i watched this and stopped caffeine completely... ive been sleepy at work for 2 weeks. but now its amazing. It helped me to reduce smoking cigarettes too.. thankyou!
I stopped drinking coffee 8 years ago (I only drank two small cups per day). One of the best decisions ever! You feel much more energetic and less anxious. And it’s wonderful for your stomach, teeth and breath. I really can’t get why people keep drinking it
My husband is like you, but I am not. Day 1 of having half the coffee I normally do, I ended up with a migraine, nausea, and vomiting. I'm on day 3 and feel very unwell with a headache. Some people are really sensitive to caffeine. My husband drinks way more coffee than I do and he can stop without any symptoms. @@89kilemal
I wasnt able to sleep normally for almost 12 years (eventually I fell asleep but it took me about 3 hours and I was awake a lot). Chronically sleep deprived gave me a lot of problems. Tried everything and the medical professionals didnt found out what it was. Turns out: I process cafein wayyy slower than normal. Quit coffee and coke cold turkey and now I sleep like a baby. No more cafein for me!
Same that's true, i thought it was because of my diet that cause my insomnia and anxiety, i started keto nothing change. I decided to stop drinking coffee it was life changing I became normal again my anxiety was gone, I sleep very well again.
no wonder why i was sort of always mad and nervious yesterday...i didnt drink a single cup of coffee for 16 hours i just finished the video and now,ill try to stop myself from drinking coffee every morning and in the middle of the day thanks! not only did you make me more aware of what my future would be like with your videos, youve assesially made me healthier..
When I was in basic training we all got one last cup of coffee on day one. We all watched each other as that stuff wore off and seen how dependent we can be on it. How irritable it can make you, to a point of almost violent. Coffee is amazing, it's something that can keep you going a couple extra hours and stay alert. However, just like everything, it should be limited with intake.
I completely agree I don’t believe I’ve been in the same situation as you but I don’t find myself having any of the problems after stopping taking coffee simply because the fact that I am not dependent on it you are completely right being dependent on coffee is the thing that makes people experience these withdrawal symptoms but if you take it at limited intakes then you can quit at any point and I’m not sure whether or not you wouldn’t even have any of these symptoms and even if you did they probably be so weak you wouldn’t even feel them
It made me violent back then, I hid some coffee packets back then because it was so good my brother still figured out a way to find it and drink it, I was craving one I punched him pinned him then punched another untill I stopped
I was a energy drink addict for years. When my youngest daughter was born I used that time to quit caffeine and it was BRUTAL! I was still having these symptoms for about a month of being free from It. I was working early mornings and travelling so I slowly started to get back on the juice and now I’m hooked again. Definitely terrified of going through the withdrawals again
I was a energy drink addict for 3 years and I quit in September of 2022 and I'm slowly getting better but the only problem with me is not feeling full stomach or empty stomach
I quit drinking coffee 3 years ago. It was mostly vanity at the time because I had broken my leg and arm and was in a acute care center and hated to have to ask for my diaper to be changed. Coffee is a diuretic. What I wasn't prepared for is how much better I slept, and how much less I peed. It's an insidious drug though because I too went back and now I'm having to go through withdrawal again.
Oh wow...I cannot believe I became addicted to Energy Drinks! I was diet coke aholic for 25 yrs and stopped. But now, these drinks with occasional coffee & pre-workout drinks with caffeine! I HAVE to stop. I might have pre-glaucoma and several other symptoms of too much caffeine. One thing I remember that helped some, was taking one excedrin (it has caffeine) each day for a few days and that helped with the massive headaches. I gotta look for a pre-workout without caffeine. Good luck with your quitting., Sorry for the long share! But I am so upset! I WILL QUIT!!!
This is exciting, I've quit before when I found I got TOO addicted, but would get back into it then simply reduce, but last time I quit, I had zero withdrawals and simply figured, 'see I wasn't addicted anyway,' and got back into moderate habit. I've not been able to shake my mild blood pressure rise so decided to commit to stopping this drug and hopefully also fix my light sleep/early awakening. I weened off appropriately it seems. No headaches or mood, but it was a struggle a couple times, then I went to donate blood last week and my non-medicated bp was excellent, confirming to stick out my intervention. Then today I needed that midday boost so decided to search the web and found more 'benefits to coffee,' like aging, Alzheimer's and health. Fortunately, I'm suspicious and figured the study was sponsored by Big Coffee. Meanwhile, this video portrays the phases and encourages my marching on. Just say no.
I stopped drinking coffee for 2 weeks (due to acid reflux), and it was a horrible experience. I was dealing with tiredness, brain fog, constipation, and it took me hours to fall asleep at night. Now, I can drink 2 cups of organic coffee with less acids…works perfect for me ! Great video, but I’m not quite ready to give up coffee just yet. 😁
Coffee isn't bad for you. In fact, moderate consumption has been linked to a lower likelihood of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers, Parkinson's, and depression. Like with most things, the problem arises when it's drunken in excess. All things in moderation
Maybe keep it low at one cup / one dosage in the morning or a day... And keep it off in the weekend (like detox your body).. So you got benefit of the coffee but not having the withdrawal symptoms....
I regularly wean myself off of coffee to reset my body. I've definitely felt a bunch of these symptoms, but they vary based mostly on how much coffee I was drinking prior to quitting
That's it. You experienced physical dependence. Addiction is different and is rare with caffeine. It also has none to do with dopamine, this video is really cringe. Terrible research by the team
@@mp292 Relying on coffee for an energy boost every morning is pretty common isn’t it? Would that not be addiction? Even if it’s mild addiction, it’s still addiction right? Obviously withdrawal symptoms are way worse for stuff like alcohol and opiates.
@@mp292 it does have to do with dopamine, cortisol as well. but that does affect overall dopamine. what are you talking about? addiction certainly isn't rare with caffeine, in fact its pretty prevalent in the US. if coffee were to disappear instantly tens of millions of people would have side affects lol you don't call that an physical addiction?
I’m few weeks in with no coffee. And I can honestly say I feel like a new human. Sure, the first couple of days were awful. I havent sleep this good in such a long time. It’s a DEEP sleep. And I wake up feeling so refreshed and ready to go - no snooze button. I also have noticed that my face looks more bright and full. I had no idea that it was a thing until I saw this video. I think I’m going to keep this going for a while!
Being caffeine-free has shown AMAZING health and productivity benefits for me. The caffeine drinkers around the office are marveled at how I seem to have to much energy. I just laugh and try to explain that being caffeine-free is WHY I have more energy
I had an issue with too much coffee years ago. Like 20 cups a day one winter. I was getting horrible headaches on the weekends because I only drank at work. Now I skip drinking drinking any caffeine for one week a month.
This is the way to avoid withdrawal. Not giving your brain a schedule to become addicted to doesn’t let it adjust to coffees effects and cause issues when you neglect drinking it.
Quit caffeine in December 2021. Was having 5 protein shakes with coffee a day. Quit during my work holiday break and all I could do was legitimately sleep for 14 to 18 hours a day for a whole week. Felt like I was wired on caffeine for years and my body and brain, particularly my pineal gland needed the rest to catch back up. After the first month, it is great, no caffeine crashes, much calmer mood and steady. My focus is not anywhere near what it was, especially in the gym, I day dream a lot still but it isn't a bad thing, it is just different, I'd say more creative or artistic value in my mind instead of physical productivity. Funny this video was made 2 days ago when I had been on this journey only recently.
Maybe I was drinking too much coffee, but the nausea and flu-like symptoms wasn't even mentioned here, in addition to the splitting headache. But I made it thru all that. Same thing happened to a friend who gave up coffee about a year after I did.
Yes that's what im experiencing, day 2. Just like a flu, back and hip pain, headache. I've had worse hang overs from a night of drinking alcohol don't get me wrong. Interesting that we all know alcohol as poison but caffine is totally fine. At least my alcohol hangover only lasts one day.
My case of drinking too much coffee is to cope myself from both stress and anxiety. It works just for a while and the side effect makes me sad and paranoid. We can stop this, i can stop this. An adamancy to stop drinking coffee matters the most i think
The parallels between caffeine and alcohol and what the body will do to stay in homeostasis are stunning. My goal is to find out for the first time in my adult life what it’s like to operate all natural, with no addictive compounds in my system.
Yes, I did the graduated withdral. First, I diluted a cup of coffee with a cup of water for about 2 weeks, then diluted with 2 cups water for another 2 weeks, finally I used 3 cups of water to the cup of coffee for 2 weeks, then I quit drinking coffee altogether. I had none of the negative symptoms this video mentions. But yes, I do feel much better and more ballanced!
I am on day 3 of no caffeine after 34 years of drinking 3-4 cups a day. I have weaned myself down for the past two weeks, and STILL had an excruciating headache on day one by 3pm. All I feel like doing is laying down and resting, but I cannot sleep. I have ZERO energy, and now lower back pain and another headache on day 3. Also the brain fog is intense… This is BRUTAL !!!
It was absolutely worth it! I feel so much better now that I am 💯 caffeine freeeeeee! I have even energy, ZERO brain fog, ZERO anxiety, blood pressure is finally normal after 15 years of bp meds!! I could go on and on….
@@sparklebiscut1904 thank you so much, this gives me hope. I relapsed today and drank coffee again because I was having a severe headache and I am having an exam tomorrow so can't risk it. I am gonna quit after it ends.
As someone who had to go through withdrawal after quitting anti-anxiety drugs and anti-depressants I found quitting coffee to be a breeze. I almost laughed when I read ahead of time that I might experience up to 9 days of severe headaches. HA, only 9 days of severe headaches?! That's EZ! P.S. It was actually only 2 days.
THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME! I STARTED DRINKING COFFEE AND IMMEDIATELY I STARTED GETTING A PAIN IN MY LEFT EYE! I HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT BECAUSE IT WAS SO BAD.. SO I ASKED THE DOCTOR WHY I WAS GETTING A PAIN IN MY EYE EVERY TIME I TOOK A DRINK OF COFFEE? HE TOLD ME
I only drink half a cup every day. Sometimes I don't even finish the half cup. I'm perfectly fine with lots of energy, no jitters and restful sleep at night. The key is moderation.
Very informative! Thanks! I started drinking decaf and have had some withdrawl symptoms like dizziness, fatigue and nausea. I am on day 3 and am already feeling better!
Ia have been drinking coffee for many years. I have managed to quit it two times, each tine having bad pain and withdrawal symptoms. I have stayed without any caffeine for months, but the thing is, that I am not an active, energetic type of person. I tend to be lazy and to procrastinate. Even after montha of no caffeine I remained kind if sluggish and needed multiple naps per day, although I work out almost every day and eat good food with vegetables and fruits. So in the end I estimated that coffee outweighs the cons and provide more benefits to me. This is why I started consuming caffeine for a third time in my life. TL:DR I totally agree for a person to test a no caffeine period in their life and to decide how it impacts it.
I started drinking coffee when I was in secondary school because my mom was addicted to it, and my siblings and I picked up the habit as well. I came here because I've been feeling exhausted for the past three days since I stopped drinking coffee. Experiencing a very bad headache and can’t focus on things, feeling drained!
I have gastritis, so when I had a severe attack, I really had to stop drinking instantly. I did experience tiredness for the first couple of days, but I switched to herbal teas as a replacement or just drink lots of water. I jittered as well, but I wasn't really into looking for coffee after though (as if I had a choice lol). When I did drink one time after feeling a little better, I kinda uhhh wanted to stop drinking lol. It tastes different to me after a few days of not drinking, so I just stopped slowly. Ngl, it made my mind more clear with ideas, less anxious, got things done more at work and vivid dreams after nights of not having one! I have ADHD too, so I thought that would help my brain focus more at work, but it did the opposite for me. Now that I'm completely better from my stomach illness, I promised to keep it up like this and treat coffee as a treat on paydays, hangouts or weekends. The rest of the days will be either water or tea. I guess that's one way my body wants to tell me to ease up on the caffeine lol
For those who want to quit coffee but are afraid of the withdrawal sympthoms, drink water, a lot. I discovered this the second time I quitted and I drank 4L of water that day
I'm not a coffee drinker but more of a tea drinker. I drink pure black iced tea and green tea in summer produced from our local tea garden. It really gives me positive mood , and makes me feel happy. I love it .
I recently switched to tea. Yes. There is some caffeine, but it is so much better. I dont crave it, it isnt jittery, and it has way more to it than just the caffeine. I can have four or five cups of tea for one cup or coffee, and I have noticed several immediate benefits.
I quit drinking coffee after I had surgery recently. I was having heart palpitations which weren’t serious, but why should I deal with them? I also think my acid reflux has improved since I stopped. That caffeine withdrawal headache is no joke! I’m replacing coffee with herbal teas that don’t have caffeine. 🙂
I’m here because I really need to quit. The stages of drug addictions go from taking it to feel euphoria, to depending on it to feel normal. I’m at the point where caffeine doesn’t even make me feel normal. For a while I was drinking 3-4 energy drinks a day and also poping 200mg caffeine pills like candy. I was ingesting around 800mg - 1000mg a day. I’m doing better now but my goal is to quit eventually
@@ninjaturtlesfan6049 average cup of coffee has 95mg of caffeine. So the answer is more like 10 cups a day but that’s still a lot. These days I’m down to about 5 cup worth of caffeine

I haven’t drank coffee for about 100 hours now. Had 2 wisdom teeth pulled and was really scared to mess it up. So I stopped coffee, smoking and drinking. And honestly it’s so much less horrible than I expected. Yeah there are some minor withdrawal effects, the worst is the intrusive thoughts saying: “have a smoke and a coffee”, but just not doing it seems to work so far. At this point I’m feeling pretty good :), good luck to anyone else trying to kick an addiction, you’ve got this!!!
I am on day five. I have traded my morning coffee for a decaf London fog. It’s pretty good and it’s made it a little bit easier still having the routine of enjoying a warm beverage 1st thing in the morning. I have honestly felt like I had the flu the past few days. I have had to lay down for a little bit in the afternoon. I’m hoping that passes soon. The headache was killer and I’ve even had muscle aches. I have adhd and I do take an adhd medication once a day in the morning. You would think that would help me power through, but nope. I didn’t realize how dependent I had become on caffeine to get through my day. I am giving up all forms of caffeine because I believe that it’s a big contributor to my chronic acid reflux. I have already noticed a lot less heartburn and indigestion. So that is a really positive thing for me. I had gotten to a point that I dreaded mealtime and even had anxiety about eating because I would feel so awful after every meal. I’m excited to see some of the other positive benefits as well! I highly recommend increasing your water intake and putting some miralax in your water to avoid the constipation. It has worked for me and that’s saying something because I struggle with that anyway. Good luck everyone! ❤
I tried to quit coffee "cold turkey" several years ago after 3 years of drinking it daily, bad idea! Within 12-18 hours I got a massive headache, that led to vomiting and dizziness. I was only 26 yrs old at the time, but it was quite a shock.
I gave up coffee and I am glad I did. No more heart palpitations or anxiety. Maintaining a health weight because no more cream or sugar being added. Another benefit is Time no more wasting time making the coffee. I love all the money I have saved too. Eating healthy along with stopping coffee has naturally increased my energy levels and I feel more calm
I agree with you the only weight gain of coffee though is the sugar and creamers as you said however, it does make me really anxious which is why I can’t drink it but in naturally tastes bad which is why people use sugars
I drink coffee because the doctor told me to. I have stage 3 kidney disease, which is not unusual for someone my age. The doctor told me to drink more liquids. I said I drank coffee, which he said was great. Every morning now, I fill a pitcher with iced coffee, which I sip all day, so there is a constant wash of liquids, further increased by the diuretic effect of the caffeine. The doctor says my kidneys are much better. Also, I'm losing weight. This may not be good for everyone, but it works for me.
I tried to quit coffee for 2 weeks, but nothing really changes. I'm not a heavy coffee drinker, 1-2 cups per day. Probably 2 coffee per day bring me some anxiety, but on the other hand, with coffee my concentration is better. I think everything is in moderation. Coffee has some benefits for our health.
I used to drink 1 cup/day. Overtime my body got used to it. Now I drink coffee only when I need the caffeine (2-3 cups per week). I definitely feel the effect more than when I drank it regularly.
Thanks for this video. It actually inspired me and I gave up caffeine 11 or so days ago now. I can't remember a time I wasn't drinking coffee or at the very least, soda, in a day and I really wanted to feel how my body feels naturally without it, so here I am!
@@Smattyy It was an interesting ride for sure. So, I stayed off caffeine for about 2 months. More than enough time to "reap the rewards" so to speak. What I noticed was this - I did not really feel all that more energetic and I don't believe that my sleep cycles were any better than normal. Despite this, I did feel overall less foggy, which was interesting. I did notice my teeth start to whiten back up for sure. I did not notice changes really in blood pressure or heart rate. The most interesting realization was this though - I have Tourette Syndrome and my tics got way worse off of caffeine. It was super noticeable and uncomfortable. I generally have a pretty minor case so flare ups are pretty prominent for me. I did end up going back on caffeine after all was said and done, and lo and behold, my tics subsided. I decided after all of it that I'm actually just happier with caffeine in moderation and choose to consume it.
@@Tstdamo1 Interesting. Thanks for sharing. My story is acctually somewhat the same except the tourettes. But I have some eye tics. I’ve been off caffeine/coffee for about 2 years but realized that I felt better on it, limited use. I wish you a happy life 😊
@@Smattyy Oh yeah. So, forgot to mention that too. I did have an eye twitch (NOT Tourette related) and it DID go away when I stopped. Totally back now, so that's definitely a downside to me being back on caffeine. And I hope you have a happy life too! Thanks for this interaction that shows me that RUclips comments don't always have to be a dumpster fire. A little faith in humanity restored here for me.
I quit caffeine over a year ago due to insomnia issues. The first month was BRUTAL. The only time in my life that I felt clinically depressed. I literally didn't feel like I had the energy to do anything. After 3 weeks to a month though, my energy levels slowly came back and it wasn't a big deal. Now days my energy levels are the same as they were before but I am no longer addicterd to this drug. I wake up early and work out and am generally more awake and engergized than the vast majority of my friends/coworkers who can't function until they've had their morning cup. * I do occasionally enjoy chocolate which has a small amount of caffeine in it... but I haven't had tea/coffee/soda/etc in over a year.
I just ended my first week. Luckily, I'm able to sleep when I want. Took many naps. No headaches. Just horrible fatigue. Didn't have to take a nap today, so maybe that's beginning to lighten up. I didn't get any depression, anger or blood pressure changes, which I contribute to my diet. I eat just meats and eggs and drink water. I quit it to get out of a weight stall and I lost 7 lbs in this first week that I just completed. I was drinking max of 2 cups a day and always plain black. I'm 67 y/o and have consumed it since childhood. I love the taste of coffee.
I don't think I have a caffeine addiction..I don't really rely on it like a lot of people do. I get Starbucks every once in a while, maybe twice a week at most, I even only have one energy drink a week. Not gonna lie, it's kinda nice having that privilege but for those who are quitting and finding it difficult...You got this and you're doing great!
I experienced many problems, had headaches every day, where annoyed very very easily by everything. I drank so much caffeine, that it didnt even made me feel awake anymore and then i just drank it to avoid those headaches. Once i had even problems with beeing so tired, that i was not even able to open my eyes anymore, cause it felt so bright. Probably also because of a big lack of sleep in the past. Since i stopped, i really had many positive effects. I can sleep way better and feel always awake in the morning with a good mood already. I switched from caffeine to some energybars (without caffeine) and Fruits / Vegtables to get energy. I wish that i would be also more alert without caffeine when i play video games and stuff after a long day at work, but sometimes im just to tired then. But maybe it is still cause i drank way to much caffeine in the past and need more time to recover. Good Video, does really help me to stick to a caffeine free life.
Thanks! Just in time . Im going on my 6th day of discontinuing my love affair with coffee . I've passed the splitting headache and hand tremors phase of days one and two. The following days have left me feeling fatigued and unusually tired but my sleep has begun to improve , the very reason why I stopped coffee , acute insomnia with very little sleep. It seems that over the years coffees negative effect on adequate sleep has increased .
@@Soulfin i drink coffee daily, more than 2-3 cups a day at times but i drink it because i like the taste. Tried not consuming coffee for a few days/weeks a while ago but there aren't any substantial changes. Though i do experience better mood in the morning or increased appetite, it wasnt major enough to make me want to forget coffee xD
@@erkatry drinking coffee isn't the problem. Actually there are more health benefits to drinking coffee than not. The problem is, like with most things, when it's drunken in excess (more than 6 cups a day). Plus, most people, especially Americans, really don't like the taste of coffee and load it with cream and sugar which of course has its own problems but coffee itself is great
@@erkatry 2-3 cups of coffee isn't that much, especially if you are drinking coffee that is not that strong. Here in Chile most office workers drink 6-10 full cups of black coffee a day. My grandpa runs and owns a factory and he is one of those people, he gets headaches if he hasn't drink in a more than 3 or 4 hours. Drinking 2-3 cups a day or drinking on and off and not getting withdrawls doesn't have to do with your tolerance, it just means you haven't been drinking high amounts of coffee consistently for a period of time. It's the same reason you can drink one or two glasses of wine for literally a lifetime and I assure you you will not get any withdrawl symptoms if you stopped drinking.
Me and my sister went to my fathers house note my father doesn't drink coffee My sister drinks coffee at first it doesn't matter cause coffee is coffee but it gets worrying when I see my sister scraping down a old tin can of instant coffee saying she gets headaches and cant live if she doesn't have her fix and I think to myself that is just weak and pathetic like get a hold of yourself if coffee gives u side effects don't drink it. I myself drink 2 cups of coffee and everytime I drink coffee I have that memory and I hope that I won't be like her like seriously its coffee
There was a point in my life where I was consuming a lot of caffeine. I would consume a coffee every morning, 2 12oz Red Bulls for lunch and another energy drink towards the end of my work shift and finally a bang energy drink prior to my gym workouts. One day my body decided to stop cold turkey. It was very strange because my body wasn’t craving it. Let me tell you. I had the worst withdrawals and headaches. The pain was horrible. I didn’t know what was wrong with me at the time and I was taking Tylenol every moment I could. I then realized i wasn’t consuming the same amount of caffeine daily. My symptoms lasted about 12 days. I haven’t had a redbull in well over 2 months. The only caffeine I have is one cup of coffee and very morning and I feel great.
PSA: At 4:18 - 4:22 in this video, the voiceover states that caffeine can reduce blood flow to the brain by 27% (which would mean only 73% of normal blood flow remains). The infographic played alongside this is a bar labeled "blood flow to the brain" draining from 100% to 27%, incorrectly implying the opposite of these numbers: 73% reduction and 27% remaining. On a side note, directly after this statement the video points out that quitting caffeine will reverse this effect (showing a 27% increase in blood flow) but percentages don't work like this. For an easy explanation of this, imagine you have 100 apples. If you lose 50% of these apples you'll be left with 50 apples. Then if your apple stocks increase by 50% afterwards, they will go up to 75, not 100.
I was on coffee for 30 years. Then last summer discovered by blood pressure was lethally hypertensive (like ‘why hasn’t your head exploded’ level). One of the first things to stop was my caffeine intake. Thankfully the heart med I was taking actually prevented withdrawals. I just do decaf now, although I jacked up the amount of coffee grounds so it still tastes like regular.
Im on day 3 of no coffee. I was super irritable and had a stinging headache off and on. But I felt more productive but would have an energy crash. Tomorrow will be day 4.
@@Tacobellcramps in my case, the pain of not quitting had to exceed the pain of the possible withdrawal symptoms. I had started having palpitations, especially at night, so I stopped drinking coffe and the palpitations disappeared! I didn't drink much coffee anyway, just a cup a day so I was able to quit altogether with only some craving in the mornings of the first week
@@CommentedHere0 drinking coffee is like borrowing focus and activity from the following hours, so quitting results into more stable cognitive state, for me at least. Also, my sleep quality increased.
This is extremely helpful decided to quit caffeine on a whim. (For reference I was on the red bull bad) Around day 2 I started feeling ill and got a massive headache, stomach aches, and super irritable wondering what in the world is happening. Well this explained everything I was feeling!!!
I had to cut out stimulants, caffeine included, a few years ago due to Afib (though I do still drink coffee - just switched to decalf). Honestly I felt more energetic after cutting out the caffeine. If I do feel tired enough to need a quick pick-me-up, a quick burst of exercise gives the same result without the crash afterwards.

I quit caffeine for 40 days during lent this year. I was drinking 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning, then 2-3 Gfuels at work. I had headaches and shakes for maybe a week but felt much more tired the rest of the 40 days. I do work as a die cast operator 6-7 days a weeks so I don’t get much rest as it is. Once I started drinking caffeine again I was much happier but noticed I can’t drink nearly as much caffeine as I used to without making myself sick.
Correction: caffeine doesn't directly increase dopamine, it blocks adenosine receptor and inhibits phosphodiesterase thus makes you feel less tired, it may indirectly increase dopamine in some parts.
If you’re still drinking caffeine, I implore you to stop it. I promise you it will be worth the hassle of feeling bad for a few days. You can do it and you deserve it and your family deserve the better you.
I quit coffee for seven weeks this summer after being a very heavy coffee consumer for nine years. After 24 hours or so, I got a low-grade headache that lasted for about a day and a half. After a few days beyond this point, I had no noticeable withdraw symptoms at all, and each day I cared less and less about coffee. After a few weeks, it was as if I had never drank coffee before. I simply didn't care about it. I actually felt like my energy level may have picked up a little and my sleep may have gotten a little better. Other than that, no noticeable changes, physical or psychological. The only reason I re-started drinking coffee was because my work schedule changed to overnights, and I needed to stay awake.
I don’t and never will drink coffee, however I do drink Mountain Dew. That’s got lots of caffeine. I’m almost out of cans at the moment of this comment’s writing. I usually have two dews a day. One at morning, the other at lunch. I’m curious to know what happens if I stop drinking that for a week, and if I choose to, a month. I’m also trying to watch what I eat and drink, so I’m choosing non sweetened drinks and less snacks in general. I’ll update this comment when I go a week without Mountain Dew. Update: It's been a week since I started my experiment, so in conclusion, there wasn't much difference for me. No real withdrawals, no bad side effects, not much happened. I guess since the caffeine content in Mtn Dew is far lower than coffee, there wasn't anything that my body really had to worry about.
I quit coffee after having anxiety issues all my life.I've been on anti-depressants,doses of Mushroom,I've even been to therapy and repeatedly had bad driving lessons and concentration. After all these, the best bit is I never had withdrawal symptoms after, everyone noticed a positive change, and my teeth and skin look so much better.I've even gone off the tablets and ended CBT!
I've been drinking 2 cups in the morning for decades but there are continuing periods where I don't drink any for days and there is no physiological change I can sense at all.
Some of us genuinely enjoy the taste of coffee. I go out of my way to go to coffee shops, not because I will die without it, but because I love the taste and trying new coffee. I will also agree that I do feel some of the symptoms of withdrawals that you describe.
Nothing wrong with trying out different tastes of coffee! I'm doing the same, but it is once a week. I'll bet that our hobby is both cheaper and healthier than wine tasting.
I am in the process of getting caffeine due to having anxiety. I only used to drink one coffee in the morning and a Pepsimax In the evening. I have been having a small cup of tea for the last 5 days, have had headaches and felt pretty tired but feeling more calm. After 7 days I will try stopping the tea.

Ps. I do still consume cacao which I believe has some trace elements of caffeine in it, but nowhere near what Coffee has and I still feel amazing whilst enjoying chocolate.😋😋😋
Can confirm. I’ve been drinking coffee for 10 years straight now and just stopped. I’ve had splitting migraines and been nailed with existential crises all day.
good luck!
Hang in there, after the hard reboot you will know the best is yet to come!
Pretty sure existential dread is not a caffeine withdrawal symptom. Lol.

I crave it sometimes
I feel a little deenergized despite being more productive (the lack of those coffee kicks )
I sleep one hour more
Slight Headaches from withdrawal
Pros :
No more digestion problems
I sleep early and easy
I wake up a lot more energetic and I don't feel dead in the morning
Reduced stress and anxiety to degrees I didn't think possible and I had never attributed those to coffee before.
Why not try decaf to help satisfy those cravings? Not sure if you’ve tried. If so, has it helped?
@@OSS976 Not a good idea for several reasons. 1. All decaf will do is make you wanna drink regular coffee might as well kick the habit and learn to live without drinking it. 2. Decaf has a very, very small amount of caffeine in it. Not enough to notice, but why would you put your brain through that? 3. The solution sounds akin to telling an alcoholic to drink non-alcoholic beer.
Thanks!
What digestive problems did you have btw? I just feel some problems as well, and i want to figure out, is it really because of coffee?
How is it going?

After withdrawl symptoms
this bad i'm tempted to lump caffine in with the other "bad" drugs.

I had to give up caffeine entirely due to anxiety. My withdrawal wasn't as bad just because it felt so good that my anxiety wasn't going off all the time.
Same reason I'm quitting. Day 4 no caffeine and my only remaining withdrawal symptom is poor concentration at work.
How did it affect you without coffee ? :) what benefits do you have?

Every 2 hours is excessive, this is being dumb and has nothing to do with coffee just like how drinking 4 liters of soda a day would be a bad idea.

Just gotta supplement it with some of Colombia’s finest imports and you’ll be ok 😉🤙🏼😜

Having acid reflux is horrible.
Baloney, so exaggerated. Moderation is the answer.

Relying on coffee for an energy boost every morning is pretty common isn’t it? Would that not be addiction? Even if it’s mild addiction, it’s still addiction right? Obviously withdrawal symptoms are way worse for stuff like alcohol and opiates.

My heart was beating
20 cups a day was crazy man 👀
This is the way to avoid withdrawal. Not giving your brain a schedule to become addicted to doesn’t let it adjust to coffees effects and cause issues when you neglect drinking it.
Bro wth are u, drinking coffee 20 cup a day. That's why you got headaches. Just drink 1/2 cup a day, eat food before drink coffee
fake lol youd be dead by 9th cup
Quitting coffee was the best decision I ever made. Side effects were horrible but so so worth it!
Thanks for Sharing your exp. Would you say it worth? Relative to the gym, do you feel any difference in performance?
Maybe I was drinking too much coffee, but the nausea and flu-like symptoms wasn't even mentioned here, in addition to the splitting headache. But I made it thru all that. Same thing happened to a friend who gave up coffee about a year after I did.
Man, I'm out here 5 days after quitting coffee having flu-like symptoms. It's crazy. I feel dizzy, like I caught a mild cold.

@@RobinSingh-ko7zi Sorry, I don't remember. But I'm sure I felt better after a week, although maybe not 100%.

My case of drinking too much coffee is to cope myself from both stress and anxiety. It works just for a while and the side effect makes me sad and paranoid. We can stop this, i can stop this. An adamancy to stop drinking coffee matters the most i think
I haven’t had coffee in 4 years and it was difficult in the beginning especially getting up 4am but it gets it easier.
Im doing the same thing, just have extra tiredness but also none of the symptoms here. Gradually lowering intake is superior.

I have weaned myself down for the past two weeks, and STILL had an excruciating headache on day one by 3pm.

Same!! I’m on day 8 and want a coffee so bad to make it go away 😢 but we got this. Drinks tons of water 👏
How long did it take you to recover completely from the withdrawal
@@2babe6 it took me bout a week or more? I actually don't remember, but I guess it works differently on each person

I am going to do the same, I want to quit coffee because it just makes me sleepy.
I still enjoy tea with honey
Wow! That's 24 cups of coffee a day, best of luck quitting

I would love to see a mention about how your cortisol levels decrease with no coffee.
I was thinking the same thing!
Crisis is opportunity.

How is your life now?

@@Smattyy Oh yeah. So, forgot to mention that too. I did have an eye twitch (NOT Tourette related) and it DID go away when I stopped. Totally back now, so that's definitely a downside to me being back on caffeine.

I can't quit coffee. It's such an amazing feeling, the sips. I don't think it's the addictive nature of it, it just smells and taste so goood.
Stoped drinking coffee after seen this video. It’s already been a month and i really feel better and sleep much better!

The problem is, like with most things, when it's drunken in excess (more than 6 cups a day). @@erkatry 2-3 cups of coffee isn't that much, especially if you are drinking coffee that is not that strong. Here in Chile most office workers drink 6-10 full cups of black coffee a day.

Hows it going
@@randosingh3937 I haven’t even started my experiment yet. Lol I’m about to start it tomorrow morning
Mountain Dew doesn't have that much caffeine, the withdrawal won't be that bad I think.
@@Gabriel-jg7er still though, I’m really curious to see what happens to me. It’s all for science on my end.
When I quit Diet Cokes, I took one excedrin daily for for a few days..it really helped!
Coffee just makes me have a higher heart rate and I’m still tired
@@NickanM Well... I do both, LOL. But yes, definitely cheaper and healthier. There are some health benefits to red wine..

Hahahaaa!
Well, they say that a glass of red wine from time to time is good for the heart! 😁

Small luxuries makes life worth living. I do take a long bath once a week too, instead of a shower. (Got to preserve water you know.)
hello, i stopped coffee for about a year now, best thing i ever done! i sleep so much better
