Chris please 🙏 do a full race build on this bike!!! Brake delete straps, mr12 ceramic bearings, chain, sprockets, gearing, lighter swing arm stretched a tiny bit, q4’d, full exhaust, air filter, velocity stacks, weight reduction let’s see how fast we can get this little bike! Maybe last step up the compression orrrr throw a baby 15 shot on it 😅😈😎🫡 💨 the works let’s see how fast this little 399cc in-line 4 cylinder can go with you as a pro rider and light weight with all the goodies I’m so pumped to see this build!!! Definitely top 3 bikes of 2023!!!

@@Complexion4U thanks we gone need a lot more than us 🥴🤣 we need. Gang of zx4rr enthusiast 😈🤘💪😎😅👏
Happy Anniversary and congrats on the new house.
These smaller sport bikes are pretty fun. You hold a liter bike wide open that long you'll either be in a different time zone or unalived.
Hold a liter bike open for what seems like nothing in a car or on a slower bike, and you are probably 150+. Was able to ride a tuned 2016 R1 for a bit and that thing was nuts...fun, but something I don't think I will ever buy for myself because I would get in a lot of trouble for sure.
I thought I was used to high hp bikes then decided to test the waters on my Duc 999 project. Unforgiving to say the least, and it’s not even the fastest the Bologna group has built so far.
@@TheDaeldrenFun and fast are two different things
Even a 600 is fast on the street with suspension old liter bikes from the 80s are fast don’t let a old 1,100 GSR oil cooled fool you that things still like 140hp monster lol and does 170 😂
They were never slow bikes maybe from like the mid or early 80s but even V4 Hondas were fast and any liter bike 750,900, and a 1000-1,100 was always a 11 second or 10 second bike that did 160+
@@JNAMOTORSPORTS Early '90s liter bikes were scary fast.
you can say killed you don't need to say unalived
I think one of the reasons these bikes run a little rich up top is because of the ram air intake. If you gain 4 or 5 hp on a 70 hp motor, you need about 6% more fuel at high speeds. This will keep the ecu from having to try to correct by adding fuel as much, with the ram air system. The bikes run smoother with a slightly rich mixture at high rpm which gives longevity. The bikes mainly only need the extra fuel in the higher gears, i would add maybe 2% in 4th, 4% in 5th, 6% in 6. Would keep then engine a bit cooler too, which also will greatly improve engine life.
The U.S version has around 50 hp and the rest of the world has a 70 + 5 hp with ram air. The U.S versions are restricted due to noise regulations. The european and aisan versions dont have the same engine restrictions like the U.S does.
This is basically the perfect street bike for the roads.
the ram air system affects the MAP sensor readings and are adjusted automatically. they make em run rich for lower quality fuels, not ram air
Why would this be perfect for the roads ?
Our version has 77+3 with ram air.
@tempofugo168 because it isn't insanely overpowered and you can use it to more of your abilities
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 Yup - high compression engines need to compensate for all qualities of "premium" fuel. May as well be conservative and run rich.
I’ll say one thing. Chris is a class act. YT is riddled with guys $hitting on these and other bikes. He treats this Bike and the owners whether it’s this bike, or an H2 with respect.
Yeah he just seems to live for motorcycling so he's so genuine
Love that about his channel and content!
And that's why I'm taking my ZX4RR down the road to get it done by him
I think this is the smartest this that has been made. You get to keep the super bike sound, lower insurance and something reasonable to use o the streets.
That thing sounds better than any 400 has a right to. Very impressed.
look up the 4 cyl ninja 250 from the early 90s...
Cbr400rr from the 90s blows it out of the water
@@aarowhead if we're talking about sound... the ninja is the only bike i know of that has a factory redline at 20k and 4 tiny pistons...
The CBR 400 did not.
The RVF400.. now that has a nice noise.
@@maguslascivious4980 The 1991 Honda CBR250RR aka MC22 had a 19K red line standard and 4 very tiny pistons and 16 extremely tiny valves and made 45HP.
@@anthonysach-htec5934 i know.. that doesn't stop the ninja from having a 20k redline lol... IIRC it's the highest one. 91+ ninjas look better too IMO lol.
Honda also had the RC166, one of the nastiest sounding 250s ever..
Entire comment was meant to be a sound comparison of small 4 cyls... Small, high revving engines always sound awesome.
The 45 HP number on those was a restricted number IDK about the honda but the Kawi only made power to 15k from the factory...
Same problem the new 400 has...
It's criminal that we have a detuned version here in the states, and yet the dealers are still charging full MSRP for a bike you have to pay extra to extract all the HP!
Thanks California!!

(That’s not even a joke here)
You can even tell it sounds healthier when you're done with it. Really nice work!
I’ve been waiting for you to do this! Can’t wait to get my zx4rr flashed by you!
I was waiting for that one🚀💪
I hope eventually you will be able to do another one with a filter and a full exhaust👌
Ditto
That's pretty cool I think yammie noob needs to bring out his bike to you to get Dyno tuned and then you two could make a video together and we could see his reaction with the bike in Mexico 😁
Chris Moore you are the man my bike is night and day now pulls hard as hell and I’ve had it up to 153mph now which is crazy for a 400 thanks again for the dyno tune 👍👍👍
Has it been reliable?
Fantastic gains and a fabulous sound, a real 'ripper' indeed!! Great vid.
Chris finally making that move to Mexico! 😂🏁🏁🏁
🤣
Damn. Almost a 50% gain for a flash and pipe. Thats crazy. So much potential in that 400. What a good upgrade bike from a beginner bike.
You can even hear the engine note change after the flash with more induction noise...
Hey!!! Congratulations and Happy 11th Anniversary to you two!!! 😃👍🎉🎊
My wife and I just celebrated our 36th a few days ago. That little bike is a real
screamer! I really need to send you my ZX10R ecu to get flashed. 🤦🏻♂😁
Thanks for the video and keep yourself safe! 😎👊❤🏍

Yes I was a bit surprised at the low output of that little motor out of the box.... about 22 years ago I used to own a 1992 Suzuki Katana 400, and given the top end of that little rocket I reckon it must have had 70hp up at the top.... it was insane... but back then all of the makers were competing with each other in the 400 class (that's a tax point in Japan), and that little Katana apparently won the 400 power race. It could really fly.
This little Kwaka looks the business and with its factory lobotomy taken away it is obviously of the same genre as my old Suzuki.... a rev happy screamer..... I still regret having to see that little Suzi.... I loved it.
Put the crack pipe down.
I'd be curious to see more than just a slip on - maybe a full system / air filter setup and see how much more that might squeeze out. Probably not much, but that's very impressive for such a small displacement engine!
At that point the bike probably needs a whole different set of camshafts, specially taking into account that on factory setting you shouldn't "be" on that rev range.
Congratulation on your 11th year anniversary man
siiickk, glad you got your hands on one of these, i didn't think you'd bother with it!
I was excited to offer my bike up to him to tune can’t wait to get it back and see how it rips now!!!!
@@OnlyPistons88 Awesome, I haven't put my order in yet. local dealership is supposed to get a demo this month, gonna see what pricing and stuff is like then, things are moving a little slower up here in canada and we have an option of a single R model as well. Now I know who to go to for a tune when I eventually get one though. And looks like TST is already making tons of lighting and other upgrades for them too. I hope these sell well enough to stay around.
@@northernninja3321 I hope you get your hands on one it’s a fantastic little bike I’ve been very happy with it so far and they are super hard to come by here in the states they sell as soon as the dealers get them I just happen to get lucky on finding this one
Congrats on 11 years of marriage! I've got a new 2023 Yammie MT-09 coming. Will look forward to sending the ECU to you as sooon as I can. 🙂 Relatively new to your channel, and really interested in this stuff for much of my life (53 now). I love watching your work, and I've never understood limiting bikes so much from the factory. I just don't get it...even knowing noise & emissions restrictions, this kind of stuff seems counterintuitive.
Looks good and I’m a fan of the original zx4r , I’m confused though why did you start tuning it in 5th gear but did the final pull in 4th gear? Genuine question as I’m no mechanic and I always wondered how a tune worked
WHAT, restricting throttle opening on a 400cc bikes also! That is insane. I used to dyno and tune bikes back in early 2000 and mostly carbureted bikes, got nice gains with tuning but to get 20bhp on stock bike is insane. I still run a carburetor bike, an old 1996 fireblade, as it’s perfect match for comfort and sport for my broken spine. Modern sport bikes are all too firm and hard for me to ride.
I hate the electronic driver aid systems, it takes something away between the bike and the rider, yes modern bikes have way more power but to give the rider half throttle most of the way and then limiting even that with traction control and wheelie control. Not my world of thought.
Old broken racer dont respect the new era of motorcycles.
The throttle limit below 10k rpm is to control the fuel/air mixture so it doesn't go lean. Past 11k rpm it's a power limiter.
When this bike came out there were many haters- All I said was wait for Moore to get his hands on it and then get back to me. As per usual, this channel never disappoints!!!!!!!
95% of the idiots complaining about it wouldn’t be able to get everything out of it at the track. With more cam timing and the right exhaust and air box this thing will easily make c80 at the tire. Then add 15% for drive train loss and you have a 399lb bike making 95 ish HP.
Some People are so ridiculous and childish.
gettin ready for the Marc of the Beast sytem eyy
what adapter will i need to clear codes on my '19 zx14r if i ever get any? already had you do the ecu flash.
Nice , I've been waiting for moore to tune the zx4rr
Chris, begin to post "after dyno" rides reactions from customer/riders. Good to capture/document the look on their faces and expressions and excitement when they return after their first ride, post tune/dyno session. Eyes as big as saucers and smiles as big as Texas. Good marketing and GREAT for business. They will be members of the Moore Mafia "Holy $hit" Club.
This! Needs more thumbs up... 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Happy Anniversary Chris and Mrs. MooreMafia!!!!
I love the walkthrough you gave, thank you! If I got this bike I would definitely take it to you.
When I had an R6 I felt it was *almost* the perfect bike. Good fuel economy, I found the racey position comfortable, and very small so commuting / filtering was easy. The one thing I did not like was how fast it was. Sure it was fun, but I always wanted to wring it out and hear the 4cyl symphony. Sadly, because I value my life and my ticket free driving history, I very rarely could ever rip the throttle. This bike I think is the perfect compromise. Small, compact, amazing sound, and quick without being too much for the street. If I ever get rid of my F800GS this may be a commuting dream
Oooohhh she is a proper screamer now!!!!
THE VIDEO THE WORLD HAS BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
We're living in some strange times. There is absolutely no need to restrict a 400 by that much. There are countless 50hp bikes for sale if that's what people want. It baffles me why manufacturers make their products worse by design. The exhaust is just an added bonus, but the factory map should allow you to use all of what you paid for.
At least it brings work your way I guess.
Manufacturers don't make their products worse by design. It's a USA only thing, all other countries come full power from the factory
Thank your wonderful government and it's precious darling the EPA. 💩👎😒
@@IN_ZANE_ It's crazy to think that what you guys class as road legal wouldn't get onto most racetracks in Europe, but then your government restrict new vehicles from factory.
Land of the free my butt it is.
@@bobeyes3284 Wait, what?
I've never even been to the USA before.
@@IN_ZANE_ Apologies. I assumed you were quoting US law because you lived there. My mistake.

What obd2 scanners do you recommend to scan, clear codes for zx models? thanks
Bought a zx4rr about 3 weeks ago. How long does it take to get the ecu back?
I heard you dynoing this bike when I brought that white ninja 300 to sell last week 😁
Glad you got to hear my bike screaming 😆😆
The Toyota Tundras do the same thing. I flash tuned my 2016 and it was a different truck!
I was going to say the great state of Texas but once you said you liked New York I'm sure you're going to Chicago. Better find 3A armor that fits under your leathers.
cant wait to see what happens w the new zx6. assuming it will need the red euro 5 flash as well.
Love the little screamer. Would be a blast on the track.
My old 1998 ZXR 400 was more enjoyable than my Hayabusa or ZX12. You could really throw that bike around and racing was actually fun, even beat a Ferrari 360 Modena up to 120mph once. The Busa and the 12R was just god mode.
Got my carbon fiber wallet in the mail tonight. It’s beautiful. No screws to come loose. Thing is tight. Thank you very much for all your awesome content.
Chris, I godda ask…Whats with all the small bikes from the manufacturers ?
Im just sittin here waitin for a SuperCharged gen2 ZX14R from Kawasaki !!!
If you buy ZX4RR - you know where to go for humongous gains ! Moore mafia 👍
Great video. Liked and subscribed. This bike reminds me of the FZR400. A precision piece of kit from another market that had no competitor stateside and seemingly no reason to exist here in the US but people loved it. It hit a sweet spot for a lot of riders. What a great bike. This is another great bike.
I’m interested in the new zx6r coming out 👌🏻 looks really good
no auto blip I pass
@@SHSPVR man i was kinda disapointed with that but its still a buy, i need a trackbike,
@Anthony Toste auto blip is nice but after 30 years of riding bikes without it I'm finding it hard to get used to cause I still do it without thinking about it myself
@@SHSPVR who needs auto blip? 😂

Can the bike be stock, or does it need a slip-on or other exhaust modifications?

I absolutely love the zx4rr and can’t wait to get this bike back from Chris I’m glad I was able to get him to tune it on the dyno! It’s going to rip now lol
Brother, you broke the news before I could comment. I live in Lansing/Leavenworth, Kansas. If I was moving, I'd be looking for a piece of land with acreage near here. Good job, keep on keeping on!
Happy Anniversary and congratulations to your new home
tune it on e85 and mr12 now, curious to see what it makes with race fuel
Interesting, was just reading an article (Bike magazine page 26) that said the new 400 wasn't making as much BHP (rev for rev) as the original, and that it was relying on RPM top end to get the power numbers up.
that's ninja 650 territory, what a nice engine
Hell yea thanks Chris I can’t wait to pick the bike up and take it for a rip!!!!! 🤘🤘
bike sounds amazing makes other 400 look like scooters lol
Wondering woolich flash tune is workable with Asian Zx25R?
I’m so glad Kawasaki let America get these small inline 4s. I was afraid with all these new sport bikes going twin that we’re given up on the high revving screamers.
Actually is 39% increase Chris, hahahaha is Saturday I got nothing going on, good stuff 👍🔥🔥🔥
1:40 if they don't put restrictions you will not see them on the road. New zx6r has more restrictions than previous ones for the same reason it was about to get discontinued but thankfully it's not.
It's actually just a USA thing though, in Europe where the euro 5 and other restrictions are heavily enforced, the bikes get full power straight out the box. Also USA still gets bikes like the GSXR600, which you can't buy anywhere else because of emissions. So why is USA retarding all their bikes? I heard it's something to do with US EPA noise restrictions or something stupid but idk for sure. Either way retarding bikes like this is a US specific issue only.
@@IN_ZANE_ yes i know this well, i was talking about restrictions in general you get from every new emission norm they keep downgrading bike power compare to previous ones. The EPA is no joke they conduct raids 😂
@@priyanshu1265 Why do all the US bikes get restricted so much more than the rest of the world though?
Chris going to Florida or closer to the beach in SC? Congratulations on the anniversary
First time I’ve seen this. Nice I subbed.
That will be a very happy customers. Well played Sir..
Do you think with more tinkering and changing velocity stacks, air filter , full system exhaust etc . This bike can hit 80HP? Or around it or more ? I'm on the verge of getting it but I need to wait till next week lol and you know I'm doing the most weight savings I can. Turning it into a race bike. Plus I'm light too so I want to know what this baby max potential is
No aftermarket air filters unless you want to destroy and rebuild the top end. Seriously, they make little to no gains, and that's why K&N didn't even make one for bikes like the VN900 until the community demanded it, after telling everyone "just stop, it will literally make zero extra power". I've seen the damage firsthand too. Scored pistons and cylinders, valve stems, etc. Source: engineer, mechanic, hand a hand in the Vulcan line for a bit.
Will you be building a concrete launching pad for practice digs?
While doing these tests how do you replicate the ram air effect that contributes to full power? Surely you would get a false reading while stationary?
Jeez, i want a 400 now
I was wondering where you went
hm. i just finally tuned my bike but if i wanna try something else later, are you still doing R1M's? and using what, woolich?
Awesome result 👏
Happy Annavesery bro
Ya moving to Michigan, so in the winter you can also tune snowmobiles and enjoy some of the Ice drag racing on the lake? :)
Aww man that thing sounds so much better after being tuned the rev hang was so bad. And you could hear the engine getting asthmatic near the redline the revs were climbing super slow. Again so much better after.
Are your bhp readings at the wheel or crank
Congratulations!!!!
Congrats 🎉🎊🍾🎈.
I enjoyed, is de zx worldwide restricted or just the USA
That's a 400 cc it surely do sound like a 1000 until you run the RPms high and you can tell it is a smaller motor compared to the big boys
So it’s safe to say the ZX4RR is faster than the 400 or what? Awesome video as always!
it was faster even before the flash, but yeah now it’s about on par with something like an r7
not torque wise obviously but power
Finally America has a bad ass entry level bike. I've always wished to ride a cbr250 or zx2 like in Japan. This is bad ass.
neat pull
Chris you have flashed my 22' 1400R and 22' Busa. After I saw you flash a VMAX is it possible for you to flash a Triumph Rocket 3r. I want this beast unleashed.
I have a question mr. Moore,,,,,,,, is it still safe to use it as a everyday bike ?
How much dose a flash and tune cost on the zx4rr,zx6rr,and a r7

Tennessee is the destination
I was wrong , congrats on the farm.
How much do you charge for the ECU tune?
That’s an unbelievable amount of increase! Is that safe for the engine in the longer run? Thanks!
EU and Asian markets stock ZX4-RR got 77 hp. So he basically returned it to stock form
Florida man Moore! I can see the headlines now lol
Why is it only ss bikes that get neutered from the factory? This stuff doesnt happen with sports cars. If you add some supporting mods you can get more performance but these bikes are just ridiculous how much you can tune them without any new support mods.
That's good work and very interesting results... I am wondering why the factory settings default to ~50% throttle, and what this mod would do to the bike for mostly daily riding style usage. Would it increase average operating temperature? More wear on parts? Any long term disadvantages?
Quite a few Euro5 bikes have reduced throttle settings so probably to do with that..
Re- Increased temps, wear etc Probably not for daily use as you wouldn't be using it all.. but if you use all that extra throttle avail after the flash then yeah, it probably would increase temps (running leaner) and increase wear (pushed harder).
@@paulhope3401 Didn't think about Euro5 compliance requirements, that makes sense since they must be doing everything they can to meet the requirements, I would think... Thanks for the clarification...
Pretty sure this bike makes 70 ish hp in the EU. They restricted it for the US.
Because California. That's basically it.
Below peak torque, the throttle is limited to control the air side of the fuel/air ratio.
The UK model claims 77bhp, I bet you could just reflash with the UK/EU market map to unlock the powaaaah.
Chris, if you tune the ecu and then change the factory headers to custom headers.. Do you need to retune the ECU?
yes, new headers likely means you've got rid of the catalytic converter. A new tune is required.
is there any reason to flush the bike bellow 8k?? it produces the same torque so isnt it just more fuel consumption?
