So satisfying watching you use the potato ricer!!! Smoothest mashed potatoes ever!!
That little kubota has worked hard for this family. I think Figaro is adorable.
I always love the cooking segment with Gina and your gathering and prayer around the table is the best!
Figuero sleeping in the box during dinner time, so cute ^_^
Here in the UK we also add fried onions, carrots and peas. For Shepard's Pie we use mince lamb, and for Cottage pie we use Beef mince.
The original shepherds pie was out of lamb hence the name
also cottage pie used to have scalloped potatoes and not mashed and never had creamed corn in it.
In fact, traditionally, cottage pie was eaten on a Monday - by mincing the beef left over from Sunday lunch.
@alison webster nope... every shepherd or cottage pie I make, have purchased or been served has peas and carrots etc in the mix.
Doesn't matter to me whether it's beef or lamb.👩🍳 Either way it sounds delicious!😊
Greetings Lumnah family, in Ireland we say " beef " then its cottage pie, with " lamb/mutton " shepherds pie.....stay warm
Morning Guys. Shepherds pie is made with lamb and Cottage pie is beef in the UK.😋😋
What part of the UK are you in. It's all called shepherd's pie where I'm from, in as much as I have personally experienced. I hadn't heard the lamb thing until I moved from Northern Ireland to Edinburgh
My family is from Lancashire UK and shepherd’s pie is either left over lamb or minced lamb and cottage pie is mince beef but I’ve never seen creamed corn put into a shepherd’s pie before..
@@deborahbeattie9103 Durham area.
All over the UK shepherds pie has lamb in it and cottage pie has beef in it. Everywhere.
@@MsLoopyLoops how do you know? I made shepherds pie at school in the UK and it was beef mince we used! That's what we called it at home and that's what many of my friends call it. In fact I know it isn't an all over UK thing.
Thanks Al l the little kid inside of me enjoyed riding along with you on your tractor your homestead is looking really great keep up the good work.. can't wait to see the start of your new adventure on the 500 acre ranch
Figaro needed to catch up on his sleep after supervising the gravel spreading and inspecting it once it was done. I always giggle when he comes up to you with that little side step to get some scratches. 🤍🖤🤍🖤
That Shephards pie was so pretty it looked like it needed candles on it. That would be my ultimate birthday cake. Gina is a Rockstar!
Driveway looks good with the gravel and that will help during the winter. It looks like it was cold there today! Brr!! 🌬
I love all your farm animals. Thanks for sharing your homestead with us! God bless! 💜
there are times, when you do some "shots" of your lovely little animals that just grabs my heart so deeply... like the one of the little goats from the outside window, ilumminated from the inside... wauhhhhh, just loved it. And then to top this one, little Figaro sleeping so soundly, how delicious to be surrounded by so many innocent and sweet little creatures!!! you are the lucky ones right?Of course could not miss at the end of the video, the most amazing present you received in the box hahaha!!!
In Australia years ago when I went to school (I'm nearly 64 now), I did home economics and Shepards Pie was made from your leftover roast leg of lamb. You just cut chunks off until it was all done then you cut them into smaller pieces, you added sliced carrots, beans and peas onions, parsley and pepper and salt and made a brown gravy to go over it all. Once in your pie dish you slathered the top with creamy mashed potato and sprinkled bread crumbs and dobs of butter and put into the oven until cooked. I have not made it in years but it was a darn good dish. Michelle
I just love your video's
When you make homemade creamed corn you process about 1/4 of the corn you're using in a food processor to grind it up really good. The juice from the corn is natural corn starch which thickens your creamed corn really well so you only need maybe a little flour or dry cornstarch if that & heavy cream to thicken your creamed corn & then all you do is add butter & season to taste.
It's the original way they made creamed corn.
When you process your corn next year, you can save a step when freezing or canning by cutting your corn about half way through the corn kernels on the cob, then take the back of your knife & scrape the cob really good to get the rest of the corn kernels & the raw juice out of the cob. Then just tag it as creamed corn, then you're good to go.
My Grandmother taught me how to do it when I was young.
It tastes so much better without all the excess flour taste & it tastes fresher & sweeter because when you scrape the rest of the corn, the juices have the natural sugar of the corn in it.
It's the best homemade creamed corn I've ever tasted.
Thank you TerriBeth! I was thinking that you needed to grind up some of the corn. Thank you for the tip for next years crop.
Good morning👍👍👍👌❤
Shepard’s pie is amazing. Growing up. It was layered. Beef /corn/ mashed potatoes. Yum. Now I’m heading to the grocery store. Great out of the oven. Or the next day out of the fridge. Thank you, you all seem to inspire me.
I’m from the south. Cream corn for us meant cut the corn from cob, then scrape the cobs to get the milk out. As it cooks , it thickens, because of the starch in the corn. You can freeze it so you can have it year round. 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🐾🐾🐾
Gma always made cream corn for my dad and I fell in love with it also.
My wife makes farmers delight which is similar to Shepherd's pie but you use hamburger and corn, creamed corn if you want and green beans and cover with tater tots or mashed potatoes and she does it in her cast iron pan and you can also add carrots.
Also--so glad you got that grading done before the heavy snow arrived!
Kubota on the rocks and Ginas shirt words 👍👍 Always have a little hope! Nice 😉 Stay warm and healthy 👍
great job on the gravel. it really does change things and I do hope it answered your puddle problem. I am really impressed at how that Kubota works for you. You really got a partner in it there. Gina, you are really becoming a farm wife, building, milking, gardening, All while looking so pretty! a real superwoman!
Congratulations on getting the gravel smoothed out. The storage /new animal barn looks awesome! Gina , we’re in Georgia and make creamed corn by making 2 thin shavings of the corn on the cob, leaving a tiny bit (smidge, lol) on the cob, then scraping the rest ( the juicy bit) into the pan. The last scraping, has the starchy part that thickens the rest. We do “fry” in butter, as the old folks used to say. Essentially, it’s just as you did, but stirring the first 2 cuttings, then adding the last scraping and a little bit of milk/cream. It’s a much loved dish here and seasoned just like you seasoned yours. It’s usually naturally sweet cooked as above. Give it a try sometime. Always enjoy your cooking segments. Fresh is always best😍
Crystal Craig, same here in Alabama. When the corn is fresh we never even have to add milk/cream, just salt, pepper, butter. The best creamed corn ever.
@@diamondwfarm2238 That's the way my Mom did it and she was from Minnesota.
Goood morning ❄️❄️❄️
Good morning. Loving everything you do on your homestead. I can't stop thinking about your new property and all the new adventures in the future. Gina, I'm wearing the same shirt you were wearing. I love my Lumnah merch. Supper looked amazing, I must try making it. Have a great day, stay warm:)
Great ,great video guys! GOD BLESS EVERY ONE!!!
Good morning 🌄
Afternoon from Scotland... Cottage pie we love it too we dice carrots and other root veg and onion with steak mince and grate some mature Scottish chedder over the top o the mashed tatties.. ... we have started to add H.P. Brown Sauce to the filling now, it adds a wee nip... never tried making creamed corn we normally have oan the cob...
The gravel is looking great ! I use to hate shepherds pie as a kid but love it now. That looked awesome!
Gina, One thing you might want to do when making your creamed corn that will make it creamier... either use your immersion blender to break down some of the corn or an old potato masher. We really enjoy shepherd's pie, too. Been eating it since I grew up in Philly and carried the recipe to Colorado with us. It will always be Sheppard's Pie to us. It will be creamier. Great that things are coming together at the homestead. Blessings in your endeavors with the new land.
Goood morning from Washington State! First thing I do in the morning is look for your new video. Of course I’m bummed when I realize if it’s Wednesday or Sunday. I think the time you take for yourselves is a valuable family investment. I just miss you those days!
I can just see the variety of a whole village of Jamaica Cottage Shop buildings on your new Lumnah Acres. (Hah, spell-wrecker fights me when I try to type Lumnah!)
Look forward to all of the great new projects on the new place. Those ponds and pastures will be so picturesque. Maybe call it Lumnah Acres 2.0.
When I was in the Coast Guard, shepherds pie was one of my favorite meals. Yummm! 😁
In case you are interested Shepherd's pie is Irish and always made with lamb. Cottage pie is English and is made with beef. There is also Cumberland pie which is from Mideval Cumbria where the meat wasn't ground and the pie more closely resemble a version of mince meat.
Hey Al, Gina, and Olivia, we called it shepherd's pie to. We make it with beef or pork also. But we use different veggies in it. Depending on the meat budget. Sometimes mixed vegetables sometimes green beans sometimes corn and onions every time. Along with cheese on the top. Whatever kind of cheese that we had. If we didn't have enough beef or pork sometimes mama would put some bacon in it if we had that. It was always good and still is good. Hope you guys have a great day today take care stay safe. God bless y'all.
Ahhhhhhh......the blessed prepared Peace before Winter! Great year for you, CONGRATULATIONS! Soon, you'll be goat breeding for next year... time flies when you really are enjoying yourselves...you made my life brighter under covid-19... THANK YOU!
That gravel will surely help prevent low spots where water will pool and form ice.
If you all get together you could clip every chicken's wings so that they don't become prey outside the fences. Olivia's flock has some of the prettiest domestic birds that I have seen.
Gina, that pie looked so tasty! I'm going to make one but smaller in size.😊🐱🌱👩🌾
I made cream corn by taken a bag of whole kernel corn from Walmart and cooking until done. Then drain, add one stick of butter and using a emulsion blender cream the corn. From here my grandmother would make fried corn. I'll share if you wish.
I'm interested. Fried how?
I love fried corn.
The gravel looks great Al, your little tractor does a great job for sure. Gina, I think you great with all your cooking! I've always called it Shepherd's Pie too and you make yours about the same way I make mine. Your creamed corn looked like it turned out great! Your Shepherd's Pie looks so yummy and comforting! I hope Olivia's mouth feels better.
Always wondered how to make creamed corn. The store has whole corn, but no creamed. I didn't see the link in the description, so I watched it again and paused a lot. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
My gravel truck driver does a 2" drop when spreading gravel on my driveway. I level the high spots with my 46" riding lawn mower with deck height where I want it - wife thought I was crazy but better than a shovel.
Love the music choices. I’m loving it at 2x speed 🎼 🎵 🎶
That barn floor looks great!!
You have certainly mastered your Kubota with all of her gears and levers. So entertaining to watch this process.
Looking very good! We already had about 4” of snow on Friday. We drained hoses, put away summer things, and now have snow shovels&ice melt by the doors.
How did I miss that t-shirt? Always have a little hope , I love that. I LIKE IT 😉
Great Grandma taught us how to clean the fresh corn, carefully cut off the kernels then take a spoon and scrape the cob to remove what was left for a bit more volume, thickening and more flavor. She used fresh butter, whole milk, a little flour and fresh black pepper for a little kick. Great base for her corn chowder as well.
I can't believe her son's sold off that wonderful old family farm.
Yes, great grandma was correct. Usually three cuttings of corn from the cob. The last cutting you vigorously scrape the cob to release what is left of the kernel and the remaining starch. Field corn is best as it has a higher starch content.
@@crowgirl1326 Interesting. One of my other Great Grandma's was a member of a Crow clan in central Georgia. Dairy farmers with a Large family and the best pecan pie ever pulled out of a wood stove.
One suggestion, put some gravel along the back side of the shed also. When the rain comes off the back roof it will flow away from the building. :)
I love Cottage pie (made with beef mince). I fry the mince (i used to fry onions with it but cooked onions upset me now) with some chopped leak, then add a mix of veg (never corn or peas....so yuk) green beans, cauli, broccoli, pumpkin, zucchini, kale, spinach....whatever I have on hand. Add a bit of broth if needed, and thicken with a bit of tapioca flour. Dish it up the same but add almond meal mixed with fresh grated parmesan cheese on the top before going in the oven. This was how I got my adult son to eat veggies other than peas and corn (his favs).
Dinner looked so good and the farm is looking wonderful Al you work so hard to make a great life for your family . Cant wait to see what you will do on your new land!
I'd say the family pulls it's weight as this is a group effort we're seeing. Lots goes on behind the scenes so I'd like to make sure all those worthy of praise get it. Here's to the Lumnah Family! Yay! 😄
@@samvalentine3206 Well said Sam.
Great job on the drive way grade. Ready for winter. Amazing Shepard's Pie Gina. Cool making your own cream corn. Blessings.
Gina I call mines Shepards Pie too! I was a young, divorced Mom of three , found the recipe, didnt have lamb but it was still so good. My Kids are 30-40 something and we still enjoy it- Call it what you want as long as it's tasty! Greetings from Ohio.
I didn't eat it until I was older and it was told to me that it should be made with lamb.
There are so many variations of it. I use a beef gravy and mushrooms (because we love them). Plus when we put in the oven we throw some cheddar cheddar cheese 🧀 top. Yum
The creamed corn looked delicious.
Your Shepard Pie looks so good! Drive way looks real nice!☺❤☺❤☺
Helo Gina when meelting. Your butter add flour too until is light brown so your flour get cook. The restaurant do that when ticking a sauce and gives more flavor to your dish Then add your corn then fallow all your other step.
Your pie looks yummy. My family loves it when I make it. Growing up my mother used any left over bits of vegetables to add to it, so it was different every time. I make another version the kids call Hamburger Pie with carrots, green beans or peas, corn, onions, and diced tomatoes, and herbs to taste. Cover with mashed potatoes and sprinkle with cheddar cheese; bake 350*F for about 30 to 40 minutes and cheese is melted and pie is bubbling around edges of potatoes.
That shepherd’s pie looked delicious 😋 👍🏻, I never thought of mixing the cream corn with the beef, we usually layer the beef, corn and potatoes, have a great week and stay safe.
Good morning from AZ.
I am from New Hampshire and we have always called it shepherds pie. Grew up eating it and now it for my kids every so often.
Time to build a lumber rack in the new building to consolidate all that good lumber laying around the property 👍
It was always called shepherds pie in NC also. Mom made the meat in little gravy and added plain corn so it works out the same way and the end results taste great.
Gooood morning Lumnah Acres, Al, Gina, Olivia and the whole gang..
Morning
@@LumnahAcres Traditionally Shepherds Pie was made with Lamb and eaten by the Sheep Herders as that was the Meat they reared. Cottage Pie is made with Beef? Slightly wrong as presumably it should be made of stone like the Cottages. I have never heard or tried it made with Pork before but I would say it can be made with any Meat that can be Ground?
Looking good
The gavel layout looks great 👍, and the dinner looks yummy 😊👍💕💕💕
We grew up with shepherds pie as well but had some leftover pot roast and gravy that I thought I would try last week in it. Chopped it up fine, combined with the gravy than added a layer of corn and then mashed potatoes on top. My son and I loved it even better than with burger but my wife prefers the burger. Now I will experiment with other ingredients!
Dinner looked wonderful !!!
Good morning Lumnah family ☕️ shepherds pie mmmm, new dinner plans for tonight... have a blessed day
You’re very good video producers. (I’m just a viewer, not a producer.). I really enjoy your music. Good choice. Very positive. Thanks for helping to start my day off on a good note.
Nice job on the driveway, Al!
I’ve made creamed corn by juicing 1/4 of the corn kernels, then simmering the corn juice with the corn. Season as you
like. The naturally occurring corn starch in the juice makes a velvety liquid. I’ve also used this method & dressed peas, carrots and corn kernels. Brighten it with a touch of lemon.
Love watching your work on that tracker today
I hope you take some time and plan out all the fruit and lumber trees you'll be planting next spring on both the homestead and new land. Chase those pesky beavers out completely. As good as you do grading with that mower, you'd be awesome in a track type skid steer.
Cottage pie is made with veg and ground beef 🐄 and mash potatoe with greater cheese, sharpard pie is mand from ground lamb the best away to remember a sharpard loks after sheep
one of those landscape boxes you attach to the back of the kubota (used for grading) would really help you out for your driveway and the new property...
You can also make your own cream style corn by using fresh corn and cutting it off the cob and scrapping the cob. Then add cream and butter and bake for one hour. I make about 10 cups at a time and freeze it so I have it all winter. My family loves it.
Good morning looks good, don't forget to clean the drain out for water drain off
Hello from Arkansas. We are a little chilly here, but I have lived in countries that are colder. We would give coats for Christmas gifts to the children when stationed in the southern states but in Germany, and Korea the coats came out in early September. It made the choice to retire in a warmer place a lot easier. I don't even own a coat. The only bad thing is the humidity. Love watching your channel to see what's next.
Also from AR. I enjoy the 4 seasons without extremes, only occasionally does it dump on us. North Central AR.
JudithB Also from AR. I also enjoy our 4 seasons, just enough snow to say we had some, but the humidity is something else!! LOL
Good Tuesday mornin New Yolk City .... @21:10 .... looked like one of those kernels of corn was actually popcorn ~8^) Dinner/supper looked pretty cool ... I've never had Shepherd's pie. Was never a fan of cream corn, but this might change my mind. The older I get, I find that I actually like a whole more things than I used to. I think it might be time to have an Easter egg hunt! Take care AL, Gina & Olivia.
Try a hand mixer to whip the potatoes. It makes it easier to spread on top & looks really nice how whipped parts brown a little.
Yeah in our household we eat it a lot because we had a big family and it was a fast one pan dinner that fed everybody and it was so very filling I haven’t made it in quite some time because I live on my own but by watching this video I might just make it again you guys have a great week and keep up the good work
Goooood morning Al and family.
Good Mawning Lumnah’s! Your homestead is wonderful and very efficient, can’t wait to see what happens at the new property!
It’s looking great!
If you want your chickens to stay inside their fenced areas, you need to clip their wing feathers and turn on the fences. Otherwise, you will always have chickens getting out and chickens getting eaten by predators.
I know its like oh well a chicken got ate ! Its their job to keep them safe.
@Peter Johnson Yep ... good idea. I do believe he may have done that last year ... or was it earlier this year hmmm. Take care.
Loved the little stretch by Hope when you woke up the goats.
Cottage pie in my neck of the woods (Shepherd's pie was with ground lamb), and our vegetable of choice was always peas, but whatever you call it, or whatever you add to it, comfort food for the win! It's one of the best there is.
Stay safe,everyone.
Good morning Lumnah family from Utah, as I drink my coffee watching your video I suddenly remembered my childhood and eating Shepards pie laughing with my dad about the shepards that made the pie but I could not understand how a pie could have meat in it. Good memories of my father who passed more than 20 years ago. Looks so good Gina. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
I like the idea of doing the cream corn with the whole kernel corn and thickening it. The canned cream style corn always has pieces of the corn cob in it. This looked delicious. The new gravel spread out looks great as well. I can't imagine how much of that gravel you will have to buy when you start putting in roads and adding to the main road on the new property. Maybe you should purchase shares in a gravel business, Have a Blessed day.
Gina & Al - try arrow root for a thickener instead of flour some time - it's a wonderful thickener and it does not give that slight flour taste.
@@samvalentine3206 I use corn starch a lot for thickening also. Especially fruit because it gives it a bit of a glossy finish.
@@margaretbedwell58 - Yes, it is an excellent alternative to flour. Thank you for your addition!
Mum used to add a cup of peas and some sliced carrots in the meat when the cream corn was added to the meat. YUMMY I miss her Shepherds pie. God bless guys and tc
OH no you are having to turn on lights to see to milk now....I am so happy to see the work getting almost completed before winter sets in...I am really happy for you all on the next big project..I am praying my life makes a wonderful turn around and the new year is better than this year has been..even for everyone..this year has been a tough one for all.
Whenever I scoop our cats' litter pan, I always tell them that it has been "scooped, leveled, and graded." I can't stop thinking about that while watching you working on the gravel with the Kubota now! 🤣
And then when Gina leveled out the mashed potatoes on top of the shepherd's pie! Lots of leveling going on around the homestead! 😁
all level headed people
When Figero was walking across the gravel, I wondered if he was thinking about kitty litter. 🐈😊
We call it shepherd's also. My Mother also put a can of the veg all mixed veg. We use cream of mushroom soup and reg corn. It is just a dish we cant mess up!
As Sue Siddle says, cottage pie is beef and onions instead of corn, and shepherds pie is lamb and onions in UK but its all a matter of taste and when i see you eat I always get hungry! Keep up the great work. No snow here.....
The drive way looks great. Get that plate tamper and pack it down before winter if you can. Your gonna plow that loose rock drive way into your pile till it's really frozen. Likely a bit of regrading in the spring but a good looking job..
I feel for you, Olivia. Had to do that for my braces ,as well. Hang in there!👍
Goooooooooooooooood Morning, Lumnah Acres!
