My dad had an old pair of boots that were dedicated to his waders, so once in the waders they stayed there. So putting on his waders was like putting on tall boots! Hey, is there a story about how Moose got his name? If so, I'd love to hear it! Thanks Al !! 🐓💖 Give the girls my love! 😘

Really like all those new buildings. The factory tour was very enlightening. Glad you call it Modern Homesteading, I remember my greatgrandpa's, just a rough hand hewn log cabin. With all that meat and vegetables and only three of you do you plan on selling anything? Best of luck with the beavers and the composting outhouse.

Hey Al! I am enjoying the beaver trapping updates. You might want to make some water level gauges and put them in the water so you can see the change when you drive by. That will certainly help in letting you know if the areas are up or down throughout the property. Also, with coyotes and other wild animals out there in the woods, I would advise you to keep some sort of firearm within reach, as well as a first aid kit with a tourniquet. You are on the property alone, and you need to make sure you are prepared. I would love to help you clear out along the brook in the spring! It would be fun and it's always a great time when you are spending it outdoors. Continued prayers for you and the family sir.

Not sure if this was mentioned, You need to push sticks into the ground in an open "V" pattern to force him to where you want him to go. To try and channel him towards the trap.
A milk or egg wash to dip the chicken in before putting flour on them. This holds the flour on better. Good morning Al, Gina, Olivia and all Lumnah "pets", from drizzly Summerville, South Carolina. 20 miles from Charleston, where I was born 80 years ago. Slept in late this morning. You are the first, my favorite, channel I watch in the morning except for Wednesday and Sunday.
@@LumnahAcres Al, you might try using some of those long, chewed up thick sticks the beavers have chewed and create a funnel towards the trap, where the beaver has no choice but to go through the trap. Stick them in the ground vertically, sticking up and above the level of the dam. You'll probably get more than a few beavers that way. I collect pelts of rabbits (making a blanket for my son). It’s ok Al that was an easy fix. in my latest episode I show that my custom ultimate duck house wasn’t so ultimate after all 😂 any small predator could have just went under the house and sneak under the ramp yo to the duck deck. But I fixed it by digging down and installing a security apron so nothing could dig. But I should have done that before building the deck. Most of what I know about building came from a hard lesson at some point. 😆 I still get hard lessons every now and again 😆
Where is Olivia? I miss your little supervisor. Hope she is well. So glad to see the progress on your utility shed. Glad your deciding on calling your farm. Lumnah Acres 2. Maybe TOO. LOVE ya 👁👁you.
Appreciate you showing your mistakes. They teach me as much if not more then if it was done correctly the first time. Appreciate how you go back and 'explain" why you had to make the correction. That way I get a clearer picture...makes so much sense. You're a good and honest teacher. Thanks Al. 👍😊
Oh ... and Gina, your chicken nuggets looked great. I made up several packages of chicken strips to freeze the other day. Wish I could say they were right off our homestead, but I can't... not yet at least. They were organically grown and ethnically sourced however. Always love your cooking...makes me hungry for dinner and I watch you in the morning. Haha 😀
Al - try moving one or two traps at their slides they are using. You'll have to use sticks around them to guide and disguise them. - PS ; they are onto them and will keep setting them off or avoiding them where the dam is.
I smile every time I see your pencil! My grandfather was a carpenter and his shop waa in the barn loft where we also played (60 years ago). I was fascinated by his "different" pencils.
Al, I think those beavers are seeing the trap and realizing that it is not part of the natural environment so they are avoiding it. They realize that it doesn’t belong there. Now I don’t know nothin about beavers, but I think you should get some natural things ( twigs, leaves and grasses or even some hay from your homestead) and camouflage that beaver trap with it. Wrap some hay and flexible twigs or small tree limbs around the top and both sides of that trap and then put it back in the water. I think that would hide it from the beavers and they would go right in it. Anyway, I didn’t mean to write you a book. Just wanted to give my opinion on the subject. This was another great video. Thanks for sharing it with us. God loves you and your sweet family. God bless you all.
Carefully check! There will be holes that they go in-and-out of. You can also buy some sense that will bring them to your trap. They use the scent gland Most the time of the female. You could have used it from the ones you Harvest. Blessings and safety to you all
Definitely want to see an exploration video! About the beaver, try sticks to guide him into the trap. Also look for any evidence of a slide or entry point into the water and trap there with caster bait. If foot hold traps are legal put one in underwater on a slide wire to drown him. Tiny wood stove build and install in the shed, for a warm up area. The only hazard with that is it might be too comfortable to get out and do some work.🤣
If you have a portable generator consider bringing it along or buying one because they power regular tools just as well as if there plugged into at home and there quite efficient when it comes to how little gas they use. One possibility to light to the shed/privy would be to put a clear panel section in the roof if it dovetails in with the other panels like a skylight and there could be two on one side of the roof so it would do double duty due to the wall inside. You could heat it with what's called a log torch from the outside since it only needs its air tube to go thru the outside wall and the blocks you brought would make a nice surround for the torch since there's more than enough to borrow a few for it.
would love a tour of the property and where the beavers are/may be. i also thought it a good idea to put a trap to the side, but leave the first one there, so you’ll need another ☺️
as james t said some solar panels and you can get the standalone solar lights would be nice you might also run a steel pipe across the back of the fire pit and some insulated flue pipe to draw warm air off the fire to the outhouse (if your going to be there for any amount of time) others have said it also a steel plate across the top would make a nice place to cook and throw the heat back out the front rather than up
You need a foothold trap and a drowning rod because that beaver is wise to your trap and will stay clear of it. The other thing you can do is find a bank den and put you trap in front of it and you might catch it.
Good morning Al Gina and Olivia. The farm looks great as always. Yes please leave Hope with Zeke a long time so we can see Hope babies in the spring. 8 eggs total
Place a stick/log over (slightly in front of) the trap. A beaver always chooses to dive instead of going over things. Remember to block of the sides. Good luck from Norway😊👍
Wonderful of you to show the building of the first structure on your new property, thank you, it is a thrill to watch, classy wee building , too ;-) That wife of yours is just the best mate, she helps with EVERYTHING..I sure hope her goat-milking room is heated! That male goat seems a little mean with Hope, but I guess that is nature. Love the way the little beauty (Olivia) leads the chickens around. Dude, your family is intrepid!
I am thinking you need to leave more of the branches in the water release whole - I know it is a pain because it can cause flooding but I think that is the key
It looks as though the beaver is going around the trap. Try placing stakes/saplings on both sides to prevent this. Also, make sure the beaver can't swim over or under the trap, by using rocks at the bottom of the flow to raise the trap and block the gap.
That beaver is one smart old coot! ;) He's probably the seasoned daddy "B"! My hubby said "dynamite"! LOL After trying for years they (he and my father in law) had to blow up their habitat to make them move. ;) Not sure back then if it was illegal but they used it. Farmers here had big problems with them ruining their crop land back in the 70's.
Good morning from Utah, I am here again with my coffee and it is so cold here in SLC, even my dog hates to go out, we use to love to play in the snow since we get a lot here but as he has aged he no longer enjoys it as much but neither do I as I am getting older. LOL. But I love him dearly and I love those goats and I was so worried about Hope getting hurt but she looks just fine, us girls are tough right? Lumnah family you are such an inspiration and I do enjoy your video's every day and all the animals are such a joy. Those nuggets look so good. My family use to love it when I made nuggets. Thank you again for sharing, your out house / shed looks great. The pond is beautiful it just looks so peaceful. God bless..
Make another break in the dam and set another trap not sure what the reg on trapping is now in NH but when I was trapping I would set 3 leg holds traps for drowning sets with weights when l would break open the dam. I never had a problem of not getting the beaver got a few otter as a bonus.
23:35 If you set up 2 traps, one 90 degrees to the water flow instead of across it, you can see if he continues to avoid it. He may not have encountered 2 traps together before and setting one off may make him think he's safe. I do like the Conibear traps. You may need to rust them. That shiny steel is a dead giveaway.
Olivia the little goat girl. Her chickens and goats love her.So nice to see. That beaver is sure smart. Al is the property far from your place you are staying in now? Your out house is coming on wonderfully. Take care and have a great day.
Thank you for sharing this lovely catch up. I love visiting the back country or (high country, it's what I'd call it here in N.Z) with you the bush is such a peaceful carming area.
put some favorite beaver wood on the trap trigger with tie wire twigs of poplar, aspen, birch, willow and maple trees. They also eat water plants such as water lily and cattail.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TANNER. SO GLAD YOU ARE DOING WELL,AND YOU STILL PLAY WITH PLUTO.🦴🦴OH MY GOODNESS ALMOST FORGOT FIGARO YOUR FOOD TESTER. LOVE (All the animals.
Put the trap centered in the run, on both sides of the trap fence in to each side of break in dam with sticks poked in bottom of pond, just like you poked in the h brace, so he has to move through the trap, he will have no other way to go.
Have you tried the màyo method? I brush with mayo and coat in a mixture of bread crumbs panko & parmesan mixed with seasonings and bake....my Granddaughter refers to it as Grandma's crunchy chicken 😍
One RUclipsr uses a live trap with bait to catch his beaver. He says in summer it's a must to preserve the animal from the heat. As the heat causes the meat and pelt to start to rot as soon as the animal dies. But I figure if you have beaver who are wise to your kind of trap, maybe a trap that uses bait to lure them in would be in order, instead of having them accidently stroll through... but I don't know anything about trapping... It just makes sense to me. 💖🌞🌵😷
Hi you most remember that beavers will not eat on dry wood not to save ther lives you have to fine the house you will see there are tranches going in shood have two or 3 get two long poles dry that fit in the rown springs on conebear put a fresh cut bronch on the trigger to intise them you have to put it in front of the door way if its to big close off on the sides try that it work for us

Good morning, Lumnahs! The shed/outhouse is really looking nice. I can’t wait to see what the special door will look like! It’s always been my dream to be doing what you’re doing, but God has other plans. Thanks for sharing these videos. 🤓
You already have lots of work to do, but we're wondering if it might be worthwhile to extend the fire pit out further so you could actually sit close enough to the fire to warm up your feet as well. Your ideas are always so well executed that our two cents might not be required, but if our comments help with youtube we're glad to do so. :)
The beavers lodge is a big round type lodge high but located near a bank because they will tunnel underground nearest the bank of there lodge check for large holes nearest the water to the bank that's where they are living an can deploy your traps at those entrances
This one has figured out that the trap is to be avoided so the trap needs a disguise. My Grandfather would use tree branches as bait (I remember him showing me that they had chewed some of certain trees’ smaller branches more as if they were “eating” those) He would stick branches around the entrance of the trap as bait and to disguise it. He would also build a “funnel” of sorts to direct the beaver through the trap. I’ve seen Tom Oar do this and also the trick that others mentioned with the scent/castor gland. This one knows where the trap is now so it might do well to relocate the trap maybe to a spot near where he enters the area in your videos. Beavers can do a LOT of damage.....hopefully the rest get the message and stay in the parts of your property that don’t inhibit your ability to explore your new land. Good Luck!
In as much as the main interest of the beaver is to dam the stream, the location of the trap is correct. However, I do agree that it be baited with a 2 to 2-1/2 inch by about 3 to 4 foot long birch branch (their favorite food) placed vertical about 8 to 10 inches behind (dam side) of the trap. I also agree that funneling them to the trap will pay dividends. Be sure to use branches other than birch for the funnel
Of course we want to come along, that’s why we’re here. We want to see all of your adventures. Love that the animals respond to Olivia. Can you get the excavator to the dam? Then you could focus on the beaver hut!

So glad to see the progress on your utility shed. Glad your deciding on calling your farm. Lumnah Acres 2. Maybe TOO. LOVE ya 👁👁you.
Good morning all hope u all have amazing day :)
Haha 😀
Good morning everyone. And may your day be as fruitful as mine was! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😃😃😃😃
Gooooood mMorning
Al - try moving one or two traps at their slides they are using. You'll have to use sticks around them to guide and disguise them. - PS ; they are onto them and will keep setting them off or avoiding them where the dam is.
I just want to say you guys have a good team and work so well together i like to watch you guys work together thank you
You might consider putting some of the clear roofing material or plexiglass over your door openings to let some added light into the Shed/Outhouse.
He is putting in a roof that lets light in.
The only hazard with that is it might be too comfortable to get out and do some work.🤣
you might consider taking down more of the dam
If you have a portable generator consider bringing it along or buying one because they power regular tools just as well as if there plugged into at home and there quite efficient when it comes to how little gas they use. One possibility to light to the shed/privy would be to put a clear panel section in the roof if it dovetails in with the other panels like a skylight and there could be two on one side of the roof so it would do double duty due to the wall inside. You could heat it with what's called a log torch from the outside since it only needs its air tube to go thru the outside wall and the blocks you brought would make a nice surround for the torch since there's more than enough to borrow a few for it.
would love a tour of the property and where the beavers are/may be. i also thought it a good idea to put a trap to the side, but leave the first one there, so you’ll need another ☺️
Hi, all. Set the trap up for the return swim like 3 ft. Away. Out of path he brings in limbs. Right or left. 1 ft from bank,3 ft. From dam center
as james t said some solar panels and you can get the standalone solar lights would be nice you might also run a steel pipe across the back of the fire pit and some insulated flue pipe to draw warm air off the fire to the outhouse (if your going to be there for any amount of time) others have said it also a steel plate across the top would make a nice place to cook and throw the heat back out the front rather than up
Always a great morning spent with you two (or) three. Compost/shed looking good. 👍❤️ luv you guys!
Jamaica here good day to you and the family the build looks good keep safe and giving thanks to God
Gina, I hope as the shed/ outhouse happens you can use it and it does not turn into something else.
You and Gina are doing a great job on the new Outhouse!!
For other critters I have found that placing a trap but not setting it for a week or 2 will lull them into a false sense of security.
Al, maybe set two or three separate traps in the areas he goes? They are also supposed to like apples. Maybe somehow attach some as bait in the trap?
Place a stick/log over (slightly in front of) the trap. A beaver always chooses to dive instead of going over things. Remember to block of the sides. Good luck from Norway😊👍
Good morning Lumnas. 1154 here and 3.6°c outside. Not ventured out yet! Enjoy your weekend. Regards Stephen.
Add a foot hold trap.read fur fish and game mag. For information on beaver trapping.
I am thinking you need to leave more of the branches in the water release whole - I know it is a pain because it can cause flooding but I think that is the key
love every thing you do how far away is the new land from your home
It looks as though the beaver is going around the trap. Try placing stakes/saplings on both sides to prevent this. Also, make sure the beaver can't swim over or under the trap, by using rocks at the bottom of the flow to raise the trap and block the gap.
Those battery powered tools are awesome. They've come so far the last 5 years. Love your videos, watch every one. Cheers from Southern NH.
God bless..
Happy Birthday Tanner!!!
Thank you for waiting wood because I saw you could used some small pieces for the other part of the wall
Or boil them in log wood dye
Hello from Idaho...Al you said you bought three traps, so place all of them around the pond where beaver sign is found.
Glad you found your mistake before it was too late. Love watching you build. It reminds me of me and my dad in my younger days.
Beavers can tell water levels from inside their lodges. Find the lodges and set traps around the openings.
When you do layout be sure to make an x on the side a stud or rafter should go
Olivia the little goat girl. Her chickens and goats love her.So nice to see. That beaver is sure smart. Al is the property far from your place you are staying in now? Your out house is coming on wonderfully. Take care and have a great day.
Try a dive stick and a little bit of blocking to funnel it just a little bit.
Thank you for sharing this lovely catch up. I love visiting the back country or (high country, it's what I'd call it here in N.Z) with you
the bush is such a peaceful carming area.
Definitely angle the beaver trap. Or put two traps out . . . with one being a little further out in the pond than the other. Good luck and God bless.
put some favorite beaver wood on the trap trigger with tie wire twigs of poplar, aspen, birch, willow and maple trees. They also eat water plants such as water lily and cattail.
You could try placing a trap to either side of the first one, since it appears he's learned to avoid the center.
Hi you most remember that beavers will not eat on dry wood not to save ther lives you have to fine the house you will see there are tranches going in shood have two or 3 get two long poles dry that fit in the rown springs on conebear put a fresh cut bronch on the trigger to intise them you have to put it in front of the door way if its to big close off on the sides try that it work for us
Loving Gina's chic She-Shed! ❤
Susan ,2 yrs ago I thought Gina would have her a She Shed.😊
its never a mistake its always an improvement...
I’m newer to the channel, what significance is the( rip cwc )on all the license plates? I love oven roasted Brussels sprouts...I cook bacon and then chop it & toss it all with the bacon grease, salt & pepper....so good 😌
Good morning, Lumnahs!
Many blessings are on your way. Don't despair.
This one has figured out that the trap is to be avoided so the trap needs a disguise.
My Grandfather would use tree branches as bait (I remember him showing me that they had chewed some of certain trees’ smaller branches more as if they were “eating” those)
He would stick branches around the entrance of the trap as bait and to disguise it.
Chef trick: Add about 2 or 3 tablespoons of corn or potato starch to you flour to get oven crispy nuggets (or anything else normally fried).
Of course we want to come along, that’s why we’re here. We want to see all of your adventures. Love that the animals respond to Olivia. Can you get the excavator to the dam? Then you could focus on the beaver hut!
