When we had the horse pull the wood sleigh into the woods for logging, fire wood, or fun, we had the steel freeze on the runners to the ground. we had to GEE and HAW the horses to break the ice so the horses could pull the sleigh forward. When Trucking in the cold and parking for the night, I would go back and forth a short bit to cool the tires so they wouldn't freeze to the earth. I would not set the brakes for parking, but would use a block to clog the wheels. I have had brakes freeze up to and take off dragging tires which would pop leaving me needing new tires on an axle. So do not stop and park like you do in the summer warm air when it is winter in the woods.
Al, you should definitely keep a spare tool kit in the mule. Just in case the tracks go out of adjustment or loosen up. Especially if you are up at the new property! Looks great.👍😎
Morning to all of the Lumnah family from North Norfolk coast UK...keep safe and well 😀 you video make me smile and I feel happy when I watch what you are upto 😃
@Carol Edwards ....it is so fun to see that you're in the North Norfolk area. I have some good ham radio friends in the Norfolk and Norwich regions. It really made me happy to see your reference to the North Norfolk region.

Here, I can go to the mailbox barefoot in Dec. (I may hibernate most of the summer, though!) I'm so glad you have all these gadgets to help make your life easier! Thanks for taking us along!
Power washer to clean all your vehicles. It depends what parts you gave ordered for winter. Power battery to jump the battery when you are out and about. Engine heater when it gets cold especially in the field. Winter survival kit including first aid kit.
All I can say is "WOW!!" Really looks great and you did an excellent job of installation on it! A lot of great suggestions below so I won't add to them. You and the ladies be safe and GOD BLESS!
Al, that is one heck of a conversion for only about $1000 dollars per wheel. It will really open up your property and make all of the homestead “year-round” accessible. Be safe out there and carry a set of small snowshoes on the mule - just in case you have to walk out. Been there - did that, broken snowmobile belt!
Make sure to carry tools on board to pop track back on if pops off! Will turn wider and have to turn more slowly. Make sure to clean the tracks and wheels often
Yes, and maybe that calls for a good pressure washer to have back at home. And, perhaps a good air compressor at the Off Grid Property, as well. Oh yeah, a hefty generator at the OGP (Off Grid Property) for the times when electricity is a must.

Holy cow Al! You are turning your vehicles into Transformers! Your plow seems to have arms and your tracks are fantastic! Now you need a heater and steps for the ladies. 🙋
Good morning Lumnahs! Wow, love that snow tank. Al it is always fun to watch you think/work through the processes of what ever job you're tackling. You're a major carpenter/gearhead. I love the gleam in your eye when you had to test drive it before Gina would get in. Love seeing the where's Figaro hoodie again. I need to get myself one for Christmas. Definitely like the greenhouse. We're impressed with your success on that. Pretty sure you sold us on that. Blessings Lumnahs.
Nice machine! Great setup. Hey, I am an aircraft mechanic of 25+ years. Unless otherwise instructed, fastener orientation (bolt orientation) is always from front to back (the head of the bolt in front, the nut on the back) or from top to bottom (the head of the bolt on top, the nut on the bottom). That way IF the nut were to come off due to vibration or some such action, the bolt can only fall on (aircraft are hopefully moving forward at all times ;-) ) or fall in and not the converse, falling out or falling down. Nice ride! Great job setting it up, Al!
I think that you probably need a set of "soft clears" for the doors, to keep snow and rain out, and maybe a wiper set for the windscreen. It looks awesome, I wonder if they will work as good on sand ?
@@christinedehn3257 Yes, I think he does. During the track installation, I saw the WARN tag hanging down, then notice the winch when Al pulled it up onto the trailer. He's set with a winch--and a good one, at that!

I agree re-torque everything. Always been told vertical bolts should have the nuts on the bottom. Can't wait until deeper snow. Should ride much better.
I would say you could use plastic side and back curtains and a light bar on the roof if it will clear the garage door. If there is no clearance mount it on the front edge of the roof/windshield.
Light bars front and back. VHF radio or sat phone. Snow shovel , sand tracks, large ratchet straps, first aid kit, thermal bags. Comprehensive tool kit.

Thanks for sharing everything you are doing on the homestead. Can’t wait to see the doors on the outhouse/shed! I really like the shape of the doors too Gina!! 😀
If there is room, I'd install at least a front heavy duty winch and possibly a back one also. Rugged muddy areas could get you stuck against a tree, or in a tank trap. Possibly a grill guard.

The mule m8st have a gun rack and some bull horns mounted on the front, a awesome sound system would be nice. Lmao Ok, seriously, maybe some KC lights mounted on top (4), two forward facing, two rear facing
You might find a large LED light bar mounted on the brush guard will be helpful both for exploring the property and lighting for projects given the short daylight hours.
Good morning! Too funny, just watched your last video and was ready to comment that it might be time to put the tracks on....and here we are!! Nice; I like that!!
Exactly (about radios). As a long-time ham radio operator, I always carry a bag (8-10) of fully-charged FRS radios to my nephew's 500 acre ranch to ensure communications connectivity with all concerned, especially those who do not have communications licenses (not needed for FRS). The ranch is hilly, yet we have good communication across the 500 acres, so I suspect you'll have good range on your OGP (Off Grid Property). If you do go the FRS route, be sure to get the ones with maximum range, as well as a built-in weather radio. Many units also have beacon signals to help in case you get hurt out in the woods and need to be found by the search and rescue teams. Insurance for all occasions.
Enclosed and heated cab, light bar across the top, front and rear oh and a snow plow for when you go to your other property. Almost forgot you will need some fenders to keep from getting covered with mud or snow ❄️ . And a 1/2 drive tool set with a big and medium breaker bars also get rid of your Dewalts and get Milwaukee!
It will take a ton of snow to stop you now. Absolutely a beast now. Perfect tool for the OGP. Gina will love it going to her secret garden. Especially after the she shed and deck. 😉
You are very clever Al and you just make everything look so easy even when you shot yourself in the leg lol Great job once again see you on the next one
That new tank looks so cool. Looked like a big job to install though, but you handled it well Al. Looking forward to some exploration at the new property. I might have to get a set for my mule 😆
For the mule, it needs some bright color on it so that it doesnt blend in so well with the snow. You need to be able to find it and may want to be seen at times. Maybe some colored lights?
Good morning. That side by side with the tracks is a total badass. It’s definitely on my wants list when I leave NM and head to my new home in Brentwood NH in about a year. Can’t wait.
Just set aside about $5300 and you'll be on your way! Here's a link to Al's system: atvtracksystems.com/product/kawasaki-800-mule-pro-fx-fxt-eps-le-2015-2017/
Looks awesome! So much fun to be had. My guess is that at least one of your accessories is going to be a cab enclosure and heater. Really looks good on the trailer.
Please remember, the "Mule" has a much higher center of gravity. Even though the tracks will give you traction in the snow, going over uneven objects has the potential for tipover.
I would suggest buying a set of amber colored fog lights for the mule. Amber colored lights don't reflect the light back off heavy falling snow and fog like bright white lights do. Gives you much clearer and farther visibility.
Light bar on the top of the cab front and back , for those just in case moments. Windshield wiper. spare tools for sure, chainsaw mount and the list can go on. I like the tracks , I bet it turns a little slower/ harder.
Just a thought... when you head off into the back 500.... since you don't have cell coverage... TELL SOMEONE when you expect to return home. You owe it to Olivia... and Figaro... AND US! 😁🤗
I'm excited to see how that works on the property! Not sure how it will do on rocks/stumps. I'd be worried about a sharp rock or stump tearing through the track. Blessings to all.
Loved it. Al, you are like a little kid who just got the best Christmas present ever. It does look fun. Can’t wait to share this with my son. Olivia will have fun with it too. Take care. Love you guys
I don't remember you saying how far it is to your other property. That was a big job attaching those tracks. With the warm barn you don't have to take your vehicles in to a garage to have the winter tires put on, now you do it yourself. You are a man of many talents Al, good job!!! I'm still thinking you should put some kind of heat in the outdoor toilet for the girls.
One was surprised that the bolts didn't seem to have cotter pins to keep the nuts from working loose on the tracks since there backing out can happen but hopefully it's designed not to need them instead. Gina might be a bit more enthused if Al got her to drive it and the Kubota since most of the time he seems intent on having all the fun to himself but with tracks who'd blame him. A tarp thrown over the entire Mule would be best to keep it clean and you'll have to have several feet on the ground before it can go where you want it to since what it couldn't clear with wheels still applies when it comes to obstructions as it is now. Keep it in 4WD since you'll need it especially turning and only due that when moving since the front steering will have trouble with it otherwise since it was for wheeks not the tracks footprint when designed. Looking forward to seeing it at Lumnah 2.0 and perhaps building it a cargo sled on skids might be something it could tow since it will make hauling more materials since the Mule's bed isn't that large.
How about a cab heater? How about side and back walls, also? You might add some foot steps. Be careful when going over large rocks and logs. it could knock off the tracks. Maybe get a small trailer on tracks for carrying supplies with? Add a winch to the front of the big trailer.
I’m glad to see you got a trailer. You were lucky it was right to fit the trailer and the door. Please get some tools for the mule. When you’re away from home having fun and a track comes loose or jumps off, you may need more than a 2x4 to get get going again. You mentioned some winter stuff coming so that will finish out the mule to keep y’all warm and dry. You need another wrench for the rear or mount the front on a receiver so you can take it to the rear if needed. I’m glad you got the new shed/barn built to keep a lot of your toys in, I hate to see people just leave their stuff setting outside in the weather when not using it. How far is it from Lumnah #1 to Lumnah #2. Stay safe and have fun.
What can’t you do??? Winch, plow, windshield wipers??? This gal from the south is just guessing!!! 😂😂😂Adventures ahead, that’s for sure!!! Be safe, have fun 🙏🏻🥰

Good advice about NOT setting the parking brake as it may freeze in the ON position, just like in a regular car.
I have never had snowmobile tracks freeze to the ground !
Yessir, When I trucked, I did the same thing. freeing up frozen tires was never any fun.
The old steel wheeled tractors would freeze the rims to the ground. If you tried to take off, it would pull a wheelie and could flip over backwards.

Good video 👍 You have to be happy Al! Nice machine- brush guards up front and along the sides!
" IT NEEDS A CLOSED CAB AND A HEATER ! "
Then it would not be a mule !
@@davelawson2564 It would be a mule with a heater and some covers.
They even have an A/C kit. Still a Mule
@@laurieritchie6791 They even have some with really high quality FULL steel cab. ruclips.net/video/Xv0oVzehomg/видео.html

Good morning!! That was fun to watch. I can't wait to see how it is used on the new property.
That new tank looks so cool. Looked like a big job to install though, but you handled it well Al. Looking forward to some exploration at the new property. I might have to get a set for my mule 😆
Wonder how long it actually took to put those tracks on?
@@esthernowack2008 Lumnah Acres said in a earlier reply that it took 2 hours.
For the mule, it needs some bright color on it so that it doesnt blend in so well with the snow. You need to be able to find it and may want to be seen at times. Maybe some colored lights?
Wherein Al begins his side hustle as a track installer for Camso.
Third time was a charm getting the BOSS Plow hooked up!!! Can't wait to see what she does up at the new property!!
Sorry for the second comment... DUDE!!! you turned your Mule into a snow crushing BEAST... I like it 👍👍

Good morning. That side by side with the tracks is a total badass. It’s definitely on my wants list when I leave NM and head to my new home in Brentwood NH in about a year. Can’t wait.
Just set aside about $5300 and you'll be on your way! Here's a link to Al's system: atvtracksystems.com/product/kawasaki-800-mule-pro-fx-fxt-eps-le-2015-2017/
Love the look of your truck with the snow plow.
Gives you much clearer and farther visibility.
you guys much have tons of money to have all that stuff, good for you
Light bar on the top of the cab front and back , for those just in case moments. Windshield wiper. spare tools for sure, chainsaw mount and the list can go on. I like the tracks , I bet it turns a little slower/ harder.
Ok that side by side looks pretty cool as a “tank” 😎
It’s gonna be a fun ride this winter
@@LumnahAcres sure is! 😆
One thing you might need is a 20" in, 2x4 if you get stuck .look up( tank ) youtube videos. my two cents
That's awesome!! You're gonna have a blast this winter with that tracked out mule!!
Makes the mule look great, do some property adventures now.
The Lumnahs and their tank. Bring on the snow. Thanks for sharing.
Good morning everyone, have a great day 😊
Gooooood morning

Love keeping up with your journey. Excited to see what is next for your homestead!
Always roll slowly before turning the steering
Loved it. Al, you are like a little kid who just got the best Christmas present ever. It does look fun. Can’t wait to share this with my son. Olivia will have fun with it too. Take care. Love you guys
You might want to look into windscreen wipers. Oh and doors.
Definitely need windshield wipers and I second the recommendation for Rainx to keep it clear.
Distance has not been said in videos or mentioned in replies to comments.
Dont think that you wont get stuck! It is possible to get stuck in anything!
Light bar and brush Garuda plus work lights for side and rear.
