In the twilight's dying light, where the mountains stand so tall, John rode slow, with a heavy heart, answering fate’s cold call. The air was thick with memories, of days both wild and free, But now the echoes whispered low, "This is where it ends for me." High above, in shadows deep, Dutch waited on his own, A man once full of visions grand, now turned to blood and bone. He saw John coming, steady, sure, with weariness in his eyes, And in that gaze, Dutch read the truth: their time had met its demise. “Our time has passed, John,” Dutch spoke, with a voice so cold and clear, His words were laced with sorrow, but there was no trace of fear. The world we knew is dying now, beneath the western sun, And all that’s left is to let go, and know the race is run.” John felt the weight of every word, each one a sharpened blade, For in Dutch’s eyes he saw the truth, the choices they had made. And so he stood, beneath the sky, where eagles dare to roam, And knew that Dutch had reached the end, far from the land called home. With one last breath, Dutch turned away, and let the darkness in, For all the fights, the dreams, the lies, had led him to this sin. “Our time has passed,” he whispered low, as the sky began to weep, And with a final, solemn step, he fell into the deep. Not entirely true. One of my favorite quotes from John comes right after this mission. "Well, some trees flourish, others die. Some cattle grow strong, others are taken by wolves. Some men are born rich enough and dumb enough to enjoy their lives. Ain't nothing fair. You know that." There’s also an excerpt from John’s monologue with Bonnie that I found pretty profound. It’s also some neat foreshadowing for his own fate when you think about it. "Even in this new country, memories don't really fade. My father was an illiterate Scot, born on the boat into New York. He never saw his homeland, but to hear him talk about it, you would imagine he only ever ate haggis and wore a kilt. And he hated the English for what they had done to his great-grandparents he'd never met. People don't forget. Nothing gets forgiven." I believe that after Dutch had said these exact things before during the events of RDR2 (both at camp and during the mission where you have to jump off a cliff to escape the law) he finally believed everything he said, everything was clear to him at that moment. Before then he said these things but he never meant it.

Something I really like is how they recontextualized Dutch's speech here. Before RDR2 released you'd probably think he's just spouting random nonsense like "we can't fight gravity" to stall for time before inevitably deciding to jump off the cliff going out by his own terms, but then you play RDR2 and you then see a man ridden by guilt of letting the closest thing to a son to him (Arthur) die and decides to take his life knowing the only one to blame was himself. Despite everything he's done you can't help but feel bad for him.
This is why I love edits. You can add in some sad gloomy music and some subtitles for a scene like this. Add in a vintage filter and a little bit of white noise. It's true surpression.
I always felt like this was truly the last time he was like the younger Dutch, but you can hear the despair in the words he conveys by him admitting he can't stop and won't stop too however he realizes that his road ends here no which way around it so he decides to confess and end it all himself in doing so he saves John from having to do something he doesn't want to do anymore which is kill again 10/10 ending for a career defining game.

We gotta stop meeting like this gotta b a reference to the mission in the epilogue American Venom when they meet on the mountain
“We can’t fight change”
I believe that after Dutch had said these exact things before during the events of RDR2 (both at camp and during the mission where you have to jump off a cliff to escape the law) he finally believed everything he said, everything was clear to him at that moment. Before then he said these things but he never meant it.
rockstars greatest masterpiece
This scene hits hard
“Our time has pass… John.” 1:17
Sound quality is different🥶🥶
Felt really bad for Dutch. Lended his ear to the wrong man and it cost him everything
Crazy how Dutch tried to warn him even after all this time
Dutchie I'm with you
“I gave you all I had,”
And a few years later, there was another monster and then an even worse one after

A sad and good edit...
Theres something about the early 2010s graphics that just makes this scene more sad idk how to explain it maybe its that dutch just falls motionless like that
I like to think they don’t even ever mention Arthur in Red Dead Redemption because it was to painful for the whole gang. Especially Dutch and John
One thing you can say about the bastard is at least he didn't make John decide shoot him, he didn't make him choose between shooting his father figure or save his family he was a bastard but at least he knew when his end of the rope was done
Broken man.
RIP to: Davey, Sean, Hosea, Lenny, Karen, Molly, Miss Grimshaw, Arthur Morgan, Micah Bell, Javier, Bill, Dutch, Uncle, John Marston, Abigail. ( but Jack Marston is still alive ) Charles Smith status: Unknown
Our time is passed john.
The paradox of the life of a man
Our time is passed 😢
"Our time has passed, John" how sadly...no more outlaws, no more gang, no more adventures, no more Arthur, Mrs. Grimshaw, Adler, Charles, Tilly, Hosea, Lenny...and the others...no more gunslingers, no more rob, no more Var Der Linde gang...no more a family...all its over at all
Just finished both games Dutch got me thinking about life 😞😞
This is a good one
What John didn't realize is that at the bottom of the cliff there was a portal to Tahiti
Bruh
Aside from Arthur and John, Dutch was the best character in the series
Something I really like is how they recontextualized Dutch's speech here. Before RDR2 released you'd probably think he's just spouting random nonsense like "we can't fight gravity" to stall for time before inevitably deciding to jump off the cliff going out by his own terms, but then you play RDR2 and you then see a man ridden by guilt of letting the closest thing to a son to him (Arthur) die and decides to take his life knowing the only one to blame was himself. Despite everything he's done you can't help but feel bad for him.
Nah. Everything he says here makes perfect sense with what we know about him just in rdr1. Rdr2 doesn't make this any deeper or anything
I'm sorry but this moment in RDR1 is one of the most powerful moments in gaming history.
How can John coldly let him go like that, they were Brothers 😢 Humans are so cruel and untrustworthy 😔
Because he left him to die and has now tried to kill him multiple times
el valor que debe de sentir una criatura amenazada para elegir tirarse a un vacio incierto y de espaldas en lugar de sucumbir a su presa es algo que solo un personaje como Dutch haria!
We can’t always fight nature, John
"This is a good one" ...
Dutch is by far the most complex video game character, he is so well written. I really like him and I dont think he is just a simple murderer he is much more than that and I dont think he only gone insane cus of hosea or arthur. He is a human after all, maybe he just wanted something different.
My favourite character in the first game. Great lines.
I didn’t understand this speech until I was older
Our time has passed, JAWN
Momky🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Our time has passed John...
"To justify their wages".
This also applies to GTA V, with FIB and the IAA for example. If there are no more monsters, they create them, or label other people as monsters, in their case, terrorists.
This reminds me of me and my best friend splitting over drama and a girl he is engaged with and ngl i gave him this speech and he said who we were is dead so i did say our time has passed and walkex away
makes me sad everytime.
Having played RDR 1 before RDR 2 I thought Dutch was just some old vermit that John knew. It wasn't until I played 2 that I realized how impactful Dutch was in Johns life and the rest of the gang. Truly some of the greatest games I have ever played.
Meanwhile I played RDR2 first and I'm currently playing RDR1 and seeing the rest of the gang the way there are now, broke my heart. How everything didn't work out how it was supposed to be thanks to Dutch (transforming into a monster, this unrecognizable person) and Micah (the freaking rat). And the difference between our (yours and mine) experiences is like today (RDR1) and then flashback (RDR2) for you, meanwhile for me is on chronological order of events . _ .)
@@SevastovTvI might seem to defend Dutch or Micah, but the truth is that the only reason why all of it fell apart was time. You can't run away from the change.
The winners makes the losers villain

At the end he understood what Arthur always tried to tell him, but is really sad cause it was to late
