I've been testing the Ronin-S for about 6 weeks, this final production model was sent to me early for review. The footage is all Ronin-S and no stabilization was applied to the example shots.

For your next video/review: try to find out the max distance the Ronin-S can accommodate from the mounting point on the camera to the gimbal without risking getting stuck. We already know that the 1Dx mkII fits, but the Blackmagic PCC 4K is wider than a 1Dx mkII, and more specifically, it's wider towards the gimbal side (the camera's right side). Thanks.

Ronin S vs Ronin M ?
IMO, Ronin S is the winner. (versatility, innovative, professional)
I own both, and after first having used the Crane 2 for half a year, i never wanna use the Ronin-M again.
I now have the Ronin-S too, and it is simply the best gimbal for run and gun filmmaking on the market right now.
I never wanna go back to the old style gimbals!

Tried to wait for the Ronin S to hit the market but i losted patience & instead went with the Tilta Gravity GX2 which i have completely fallen in love with. My friend has a Ronin S & we both recently went out to shoot together. He was jealous couldn't even hide it...DJI was however smart enough to price it $100 cheaper. If they didn't do that i don't know how they would have competed the GX2.
Sinister Saints Why is he jealous of the Title G2X? Nucleus N has yet to show up so no follow focus.
I think it was the wooden engraved gun style grip design. What is follow focus? i'm a newbie to all this...I'm going to eventually get the Ronin S anyway for my other camera set-up so me & my nephew can shoot together. Seems like a nice gimbal.

It would weigh 4lbs instead of 5lbs and be easier to setup/transport I think. The 2 handed prototypes I have seen for the Ronin S actually make it 3 handles (2 added to existing one). I will buy one if they make one that is just two, with the battery in the handles!

I had a question, I have seen several shots and DJI describing that the Ronin-S can be mounted to say the FreeFly RC cars etc without the battery grip. Could you let us know how this would work in terms of power for the Ronin-S? does DJI have a special cable on the side or the head unit or something that allows the cable to be routed from the side while keeping the bottom free to be mounted or does the head unit have a smaller battery built into it or something that lets it run without the battery grip for say 10 - 15 minutes or something? any insight into this would be much appreciated.., Cheers again! I am 1DXMII user as well so I greatly appreciate your videos (especially the previous one where you confirmed the 1DXMII) thanks a bunch !
ExploreAtWill wish I could answer you on this, but im not sure. I know that the unit won’t power without the battery attached, so I’m guessing that the car mount stuff has a way to pass the power.
Thanks again for the response. That makes sense, after reading your reply, I looked at some of DJI's videos again and it does seem like what you are suggesting, if I pause, zoom and look close, it looks like some custom mount plate that has what appears to be some cable coming out of it. it looks like DJI is going to release a ton of accessories, mounting plates etc. I am anxiously waiting for my copy of the Ronin-S. Cheers again ! I am also curious about the Track feature and also the programable key frame features (automated moves on the app) I own the Edelkrone motion kit and this is definitely crossing in that territory. If DJI made a slider track for lateral motion as an accessory that sync'ed with the Ronin-S head and have a 3 axis programmable unit, woa! that would be some seriously powerful accessory! especially considering how much I paid for my Edelkrone motion kit!
I own the Crane 2 and what I like about the Ronin S compared to the Crane is that it's modular wich means it's easier to carry around in a bag. The Crane just won't fit into my camera backpack.

Well the Crane weighs 2.76 lbs and the Ronin 4.1 lbs according to the specs and their websites. I find the Crane to be heavy already. Would love to get my hands on the Ronin to compare the 2
Melvin Jose it’s heavier but I use it with two hands often. The tripod extension is really an extra grip. I’ll go over it in the review.

Wytse Koetse I’m using the 1DXII, and the ronin-s will hold the 16-35mm 2.8 L III m, which is a big lens. That’s my go to but I switch to primes for receptions often.
You could have mention that this is STANDARD KIT and Essential kit has lesser items.

I have the older style 701 heads where the plate slides in. On those it will fit but only go to the front edge. I'm not sure about the newer drop-in style heads like the Manfrotto MVH500AH , but I think it would fit and maybe in any postion.

Thanks for the video! What material is the case made of?
It's a type of foam, but it wont come apart like styrofoam. I cant tear it with my fingernails or anything. Maybe it's coated with something, but it's relatively tough.

Simon Bauer nope. Their plate is a touch smaller than the manfrotto so it works one way but not the other.

Anyone got an idea if the Follow Focus will work with Canon, Nikon and Sony cameras eventually? Compatibility list on DJI's website states only the GH5 and GH5s are supported as of now.
No Sony's right now for sure. I don't know any more though!
Sir is the plate manfrotto compatible ? I mean u haved mentioned in the video , but its not clear , wheather it fits perfectly or not , or is it loose ?

Anil Agarwal sorry, I said yes in the video but I guess it’s not clear. It is comparable, but it on the push in versions (not the drop in versions) it will only go to the end of the quick release, not passed it.

So far i've only seen it sold on DJI's website and B&H. There's a pretty large back order due to the amount of people who bought it right away. It will more than likely make its way to Amazon and possibly Best Buy. I dont see the Ronin S being sold in many physical stores right now since they probably cant get there hands on the Ronin S quite yet.
B&H is currently the exclusive seller. Just preordered mine. PUMPED!
Are there any problems with weight such a big camera body like 1dx mkII ? I have got nikon d5 and i wonder is it gonna fit ronin s.
The motors handle it no problem. It takes a bit to balance it but it's been my main camera on it an no problems.
How is it for clearance and balancing with a Canon 1dx w/ 24-70 lens?
Ryan Zaichrn it’s tight. Can’t tilt down all the way, but the range of movement is useable.

yea its the same style that they do with their phantom drones. It's a tough foam that doesn't nick or rip like styrofoam. Pretty nice for a shipping case and can be used for medium-duty stuff.

Me too, I have a trip to Colorado end of June, I so hope it arrives before my trip! I pre-ordered from DJI and they show 20-25 Business Days, I noticed B&H shows Available June 11, I wonder if B&H is going to ship faster, if it does, I'd be pissed that I pre-ordered from DJI directly! ... I hope DJI steps up and matches their Mavic Air ship dates as I got my Mavic Air a little faster that the dates they provided during the Pre-Order! fingers crossed, please DJI... make it happen !
ExploreAtWill I pre ordered from B&H and yes it says expected delivery around the 11th of june. I have no idea how many people ordered before me, but will post here when it is shipped!! If you want another battery, do you have to purchase another handle? That always turned me off on the optimus and is why I got the crane, very easy and cheap to have an extra set of batteries. Who wants to have to charge the handle in case of emergency back up?? Only bummer I can see about this!!

If B&H is faster, I might order through them if they can get to be before the last week of June! on the topic of Battery grips, I have seen several shots of the Ronin-S being used without the grip on the Freefly RC cars and so forth, I wonder if there is a cable for power that allows the head to be mounted to cars and other jibs without the Battery Grip or does the head have a smaller built in battery that has a much shorter run time! if DJI put a smaller battery inside the head unit that could run for say even 15 minutes that would be crazy amazing, but I doubt it. FilmPoets, any insider information on this ? I will post the question separately as well, I am very curious to know ... !
B&H is usually faster for me because I live within their 1 day shipping area. DJI takes way longer to ship, so even if they have stock before B&H often times I could've had it already via B&H. That's my experience purchasing drones from them.

yes, but after testing some more I realized that it hits the front of the safety pin that's on the front of the head. So it slides on but not past the front. Workable, but not ideal.
what is the velcro strapped used for?
It's so it doesn't flop around when you power off the unit and change locations.

yeah I believe they made the change to Manfrotto sometime between CES and NAB. Not a deal breaker of course since it's just a quick release system.

/SMASHED LEGENDS that’s what I thought when I saw the phantom 4 case. Then I used it. It’s a strange material that’s tougher than it looks, but yes it’s not a pelican replacement.
I I don’t use a case, just wrap it on top of my tripod bag and go.
Same material as my inspire 2 case, and that thing is way stronger than it looks.

Ha, it's wedding season in the southeast, I know guys who've banged out 7 or 8 in that amount of time doing Friday and Saturday weddings. It dies down after July.
