You make strolling through a multi level car park look far cooler than what it should... definitely selling my DJI Osmo+ to get the Ronin-S, thanks for showing us some awesome footage with it.
This was definitely one of the best reviews I have seen for the Ronin S. You didn't just talk features, you showed really great practical examples. (I totally would have loved to see the jetski stuff too lol)
Bule British does it bring you lots of joy and self assurance to bring people down? RUclips isn’t my thing, but ask the 10 wedding clients that I have booked in the last 2 months after only having my camera for a year. Get over yourself.
Hey some people wanna tear you down, but I want to build people up and keep the positivity flowing! Congrats on growing your channel! Hope it's going well for you! If you or someone you know ever dreamed on moving to hollywood, check out this interview I did with a Hollywood Vet Rav Holly! ruclips.net/video/1vhLce3CwCU/видео.html
You know Peter, you are probably one of the few youtubers who has the power to grab viewers attention just by sitting at one place n talking n a bit of footage. I can listen to ur techniques even thou I am more in photography, for a longer time. Keep up with ur content n kindness. 😚
Love the energy you have! I watch a lot of RUclips channels and I'm pretty aware of fake BS from hosts of channels...You sir seem to be a quality individual and it shows in your presentation and passion. Keep kicking ass, and I'll be watching...Not in a "From the bushes" way LOL 😆🤙🏼
indeed. i saw a video clip where the cameraman holds his camera stable with his barehands like a gimbal. what i amazed him more is when he go inside the car with his camera to get a great cinematic view, the video is awesome to be stabilized.
Finally, a realistic review. I've used my Ronin S on two feature films. I have over 40 hours of experience with the Ronin S. Not the usual 2 hours MANY content creators have when posting their reviews online. Some of the complaints are really a result from not using the Ronin S enough. Gimbals are not created equal. They all have their own characteristics that must be understood and adapted to. The weight? I used mine for 14 hours straight, and I put it down on its tripod a couple times. Realistically, you'll get better with the Ronin S the more you use it. Which holds true for any gimbal or gear. There's a good reason the Ronin S is constantly selling out. I just saw a Ronin S review this morning where total disinformation was put forth by a pretty well known content creator for cameras and gear. I won't say who, because it's about the content of their video, not about them. They said that the follow focus feature DOES NOT work. They left out the fact that follow focus DOES work with the Panasonic GH5/GH5s, just not HIS camera. To leave out such information is dishonest and sloppy. DJI said compatibility with other cameras is coming. As would be expected from any NEW product. I know I sound a bit pissed. LOL. Well, I am. In the case of the Ronin S, I know from having real world experience that a lot of reviews for it are not realistic or fair. As I mentioned before, many reviewers of the Ronin S have spent very little time with it. Often a mere 2-4 hours. Which isn't a lot of time to become acquainted with almost any piece of equipment, like the Ronin S. I will try to find time to make my own review of the Ronin S. I think it's important to try out new gear in real world situations before passing judgment on its use and abilities. Cheers.
VFX Todd in addition to the gh5, the follow focus works great with Canon 5D4. Just have to remember to switch to manual focus on the lens. I originally thought it didn’t work.
You're just great, sharing your experiences and knowledge !! Really one of a kind !! Thanks so much !! Another guy who I guess you know has tested some other gimbals and uses them to the fullest, I would say, IMHO : ruclips.net/channel/UC3stPIuUoCDHG7COfwr0tEAvideos
Amazing! Another thing that was not mentioned at all which is one of the most useful features of this gimbal is the ability to preprogram the movements. It doesn´t matter if it´s a timelapse or not, the fact that you can replicate any movement of the camera with incredible precision is amazing if you want to replicate yourself in a panning shot or combine multiple different timelapses or anything basically. Enough of my blabbering, can´t wait to pick this thing up tomorrow!
Just got my Ronin-S the other week and it's AMAZING! Thanks for the tip with the roll though! Couldn't find that myself. Keep on rocking' Peter and thanks for all that you are doing for the community!
I just watch your videos ONLY for vanishing even the biggest anxieties of life.. Just a Great Teacher and superb ALL IN ONE PERSONALITY. Regardless of the fact that i do also make some content but it has no such thing to do with "cinematography" , but still I just find you an outstanding amazing and awesome person just because of your "BUTTERY" artwork.
keep in mind the ronin s is double the weight of the crane v2 4lb vs 2lb. as a traveler its a pretty big dealbreaker. Its kind of disappointing to me that they just made a 1 handed ronin M with some new features. we need a dji gimbal for smaller dslrs, not something to hold a Red. But maybe thats the market theyre going for.
No matter how long the video is, the important thing is that you were able to demonstrate your point and why you did ... So much help Peter! You're the Rock God!
LOVED the video! I learn so much, as a filmmaker, from this channel and I couldn’t thank Peter enough! Do you guys think the Robin S is better than all the Zhiyun cranes? I’m currently using a Zhiyun Crane but I might switch. Again, thank you Peter so much for all these videos. Because of you I have a photography/videography business, I’ve worked with the Big Baller Brand (Lavar Ball) and Otto Porter (an NBA player) and I’m almost at 500 subscribers on this channel I started 3 months ago! THANK YOU PETER!!!
Alex Hussein IF you buy the Ronin S you will se constant software updates and hardware for example a car mount and maybe a drone so you can mount the gimbal head on it.
Sir! I am from India. You are great ....your B-roll with music is spot-on. I like your work very much. Sir! Please suggest me a good camera (I you have free time) for vlogging...any camera because I have a very tight budget.
Hey @petermckinnon million dollar question... Do you think this can replace say a Ronin M for someone like me who does mostly YT and some outside client work?
What camera are you using? I really think this is a great replacement for the Ronin M. It's a lot quicker/easier to set up and balance. It's a lot more mobile. It's got some great features like the Focus wheel, and the ability to power your camera. If you compare side by side, I don't think the Ronin M has anything unique to offer vs Ronin S
I use the same lenses. Peter said he got a 16-35mm in this vid. Definitely would say that the Ronin-S would be a good replacement for YT and Client work.
I love watching your product videos because it creates ideas and allows us to see how you get your buttery smooth footage, but I also find myself putting off making videos because I fool myself into thinking that I need this to get the next great video. Either way, love these types of videos that allos us to see how we can improve in the future.
FeiyuTech A1000 is a good option if your camera+lens is within it's max weight limit of 3.7lbs. Obviously it's not as good as the Ronin-S but it has many of the same features and cost less than half of it at 320$. Probably one of the better gimbal options if you're on a budget
I’m not even planning on making footage on this level but Peter is so awesome and the videos are aesthetically pleasing. So I watch and enjoy! And learn too in case I do want to step up my game.
So there are like a zillion reviews on this gimbal now, some good, some not so good, some down right terrible. Ronin S vs. Crane 2, Ronin S by Bob, Ronin S by Huck, Ronin S by Chica, Ronin S by etc, etc, etc. But you were the first to introduce it, at least as far as I knew, but then, Bamm, a baby popped (was it a boy or girl, btw?) out an you were family bound for two weeks, and so everybody and their grand mother is reviewing this gimbal. So today when I saw your post I was like, well I have to watch it cause it's Peter. Glad I did. Your take l was realistic and you actually taught me something. Thanks Peter! And now I must continue to wait while B+H continues to send me dear Scott letters. Been waiting two months now... ARGH!
These b-roll sequences. You need to do a tutorial on just how you make your b-roll sequences, like, we get the basics, but for whatever reason, I cannot get anything to look as dope as what you make. You are awesome dude, solid job.
Beautifully executed comparison examples, Peter. They really showcase the usefulness of this gimbal tool, and buttery quality of the footage produced with it. I love no-BS, real-world product demos and this one is professionally done and very convincing. Thanx
Imagine a using this with a panasonic gh5, and a stabilized lens You get In body stabilization Lens stabilization Gibal stabilization And to make you footage even smoother you can shoot at high frame rates and do slo mo and even add warp stabilizer in post if you want but it would probably be unnecessary and make.little to no difference but still, all methods of stabilization combined would be phenomenal
Tarek Al-Shawwa if it is like the DJI Osmo, you have to turn off the camera stabilization, or the two will counteract with each other and make your film jittery.
I started learning Adobe suite/photography/media esq things in may (coming from a science only background) and I can honestly say your channel taught me everything I've learned .... better than any professor I've ever encountered for sure haha😁👌 thanks so much
Thats the problem I see. Everyone will now want to use it. but HOW does adding a roll improve on your video? There are times where I wish I had it, but those times are very rare. Maybe once or twice that I was shooting I wish I had it.
I predict that youtube is going to be swamped with roll videos from here on out. This is already overdone with bigger cameras like the arri with a Trinity head, but now it will be over done with vloggers..🤦🏻♂️
Great video reminding us of the importance of gimbals when shooting videos! As an international traveler and only an enthusiast, not a pro, size matters to me. I can't bring the bigger gimbals with me when I travel, because when I travel I like to bring clothes, save room for gifts/souvenirs in my luggage that large camera gear stops me from doing. For those who just want to bring a cell I strongly recommend such gimbals as the Z smooth X with an expandable selfie stick; for those with a small point and shoot, such as the Sony X1000 series cameras, the Crane M2, and, in my case, the Weebill S for the smaller size Sony A6600 camera I use. Thanks, Peter for generating this discussion:)
Man i have been using a glidecam for a while and almost despised using motorized gimbals but after seeing this it has changed my mind, might have to pick one up
Thanks so much for making videos that are both informational and enjoyable to watch and that I can watch with my kids! Just love your videos. I never comment on youtube but I just wanted to tell you thanks so much!
Peter - PLEASE - could you tell me the name of the song in min 2:20? I know you use epidemic sound but I am trying to find this exact song and I haven't been able. MANY THANKS! I hope you read this message!
Peter will have you wanting to buy new cameras, equipment, and SHOES just from watching his videos. IT'S A TRAP! 😂 This guy does insanely detailed work, and he puts so much effort into it.
Does anyone else have a routine or procedure prior to watching Peter's videos? e.g. I have to have a Coffee ready, a notebook, some snacks etc. It's like an event every time. p.s. Thank you again for the awesome video and lastly go "Steadicams" :p For low angles I use my drone as it has a built in 3-axis gimbal and 4k camera.
Let's see if I'm lucky enough to get a reply... Peter: Do you keep your DJI mounting plate in your camera or do you screw it in every time you use the gimbal? Thank you
I really have to say, thanks Peter. Thanks for the tips, the advice, the motivation to keep going even when the videos don't come out right or when the creator block is real. I look forward to each and every video you drop, because I know i'll be able to apply it some way in my videos, my hobbies, and my life. Thanks again, and keep on creating. The world is your audience, Sir.
Thank you so much for letting us know about this product. It's exactly, like EXACTLY, what I needed without carrying the heavy and huge Ronin. It's actually not even out yet here in Europe but I have pre-ordered it. Very excited to start working with better footage and learn more about filming.
The Eisenhower recorded message on the SCORE Satellite, just like the AVA Intro - Love Like Rockets. Awesome Pete! Thanks for othe GREAT VIDEO. Need to work something BIG with Delonge ASAP.
Do you use a gimbal? What's your jam?
Peter McKinnon yes i use gimbal for my youtube videos
Yes love my zhiun crane ! :)
Wish i could buy one :(
Two handed gimbal errday 🙌
Peter McKinnon yeah i use gimbal
You make strolling through a multi level car park look far cooler than what it should... definitely selling my DJI Osmo+ to get the Ronin-S, thanks for showing us some awesome footage with it.
This was definitely one of the best reviews I have seen for the Ronin S. You didn't just talk features, you showed really great practical examples. (I totally would have loved to see the jetski stuff too lol)
Jade Brewer Photography - I was hoping for the jetski footage too!
Wouldn't be where I am today with out your generosity to help teach in the creative world. Thanks Pete!
Reed Shepherd so very true!!!
Bule British does it bring you lots of joy and self assurance to bring people down? RUclips isn’t my thing, but ask the 10 wedding clients that I have booked in the last 2 months after only having my camera for a year. Get over yourself.

Asia Unleashed Hater
That footage is smooth like butter
Like melted hot butter on a baked potato smooth.
It's just like watching diff. between 60 & 30 fps vedio 😂
Or smoother than that.
Smoothhhh like velvet!!
Even my butter is not as smooth as that footage
You know Peter, you are probably one of the few youtubers who has the power to grab viewers attention just by sitting at one place n talking n a bit of footage. I can listen to ur techniques even thou I am more in photography, for a longer time. Keep up with ur content n kindness. 😚
Why am I watching this I don't even have a camera
Poro Biscuits Same bro, but you can buy a gimbal for your phone... but they are costly if they are not chinese
Because you are a savage and I appreciate it haha
IK EXACTLY WHY....
CAUZ OF PETER!!
HIS PERSONALITY AND HOW HE ATTRACTS US BY HIS WORK AND TALK
SAME
I live in china..haha...cheaper gimbals
Love the energy you have! I watch a lot of RUclips channels and I'm pretty aware of fake BS from hosts of channels...You sir seem to be a quality individual and it shows in your presentation and passion. Keep kicking ass, and I'll be watching...Not in a "From the bushes" way LOL 😆🤙🏼
Didn't expect gy6 to be here ngl
Remember everyone! Gimbals are only as good as their operators.
this much is true!
Yes, if you want one you will just need to practice. I don't think it is that rare of a skill to be able to handle one to get better footage.
indeed. i saw a video clip where the cameraman holds his camera stable with his barehands like a gimbal. what i amazed him more is when he go inside the car with his camera to get a great cinematic view, the video is awesome to be stabilized.
Operators are only as good as their RUclips instructors. Lol.
@@MatthewHyatt class 😂😂😂
I think Peter McKinnon is the only guy I know that can consistently keep me interested in his videos for 10+ min
George Perales 💯 Agree

Yes do a review man!
VFX Todd in addition to the gh5, the follow focus works great with Canon 5D4. Just have to remember to switch to manual focus on the lens. I originally thought it didn’t work.
As someone who has a GH5s and received my Ronin S a few hours ago, I appreciate your feedback.
I just ordered mine! rocking a 70d and 5d
This is exactly the type of reviews people need, tired of other people showing just one side of it
Pete...what you do just brings light to every aspect of videography and the creative world.Thank you.
Thanks for the compliment! very kind of you!
You are welcome ,SIR.😊
I agree!
I don't usually write comments but thank you for being straight to the point and showing demos of exactly what I was looking to see. I appreciate you.
That infinite roll option is awesome!!!
I look forward to buy this gimball for Christmas. That infinate Roll looks DOPE. Thanks for those handy tips and features Peter.
3:00 "It's gonna be the slowest mo" - Peter McKinnon.
🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
Peter hands down you've got the pans on lock! Love the channel dude, I've even scaled back to some old vids lol
That ronin is so sick. I need it.
Amazing! Another thing that was not mentioned at all which is one of the most useful features of this gimbal is the ability to preprogram the movements. "I cant afford a gimbal" , types it with a +$700 smart phone. Lol
Weird flex... But, ok..
😅
Just got mine in the mail today! Anxiously waiting for the battery to charge! lol Thanks for the review Peter, and as always awesome B-Roll man!
*SO HAPPY YOU MADE THIS* I’ve had so many questions about my Ronin and you’ve answered all of them 🙌🏽
FINALLY PETER!!
We’ve been waiting for this video.
Still at work, added to watch later, will watch it first thing after I get home.
Can you please do a"What's up everybody" with a mouth full of liquid.
That would be great thanks
Just got my Ronin-S the other week and it's AMAZING! Thanks for the tip with the roll though! Couldn't find that myself. Keep on rocking' Peter and thanks for all that you are doing for the community!
bless for testing in 24 fps instead of 120 fps c:
I just watch your videos ONLY for vanishing even the biggest anxieties of life.. Just a Great Teacher and superb ALL IN ONE PERSONALITY. Regardless of the fact that i do also make some content but it has no such thing to do with "cinematography" , but still I just find you an outstanding amazing and awesome person just because of your "BUTTERY" artwork.
With all those running shots Peter, I feel like you’re low key training for your own #RunWithNeistat 🏃🏽😆
Yo Pete walking like he's on the catwalk haha! Such a great juxtaposition, thanks man!
That camera roll though! That feature alone makes me want to switch from the Zhiyun Crane V2 to the Ronin-S...dope review sir!
Dancersglobal same
keep in mind the ronin s is double the weight of the crane v2 4lb vs 2lb. as a traveler its a pretty big dealbreaker. Its kind of disappointing to me that they just made a 1 handed ronin M with some new features. we need a dji gimbal for smaller dslrs, not something to hold a Red. But maybe thats the market theyre going for.
These were made for DSLR and larger cameras not mirrorless. There are too many gimbals for mirrorless out there especially for sony fanboys.
I have the Crane v2 and you can roll the camera?!
I LOVE watching your videos with great sounding headphones. It's so much more immersive and helps me focus on your content 🤙
Literally dropped everything to watch this video...hope my camera still works. Lol
One word : awesome; am really blown away by your work.
Peter McKinnon
How are you bro, all good.
Only good part about vacation: I come back to see new videos from Peter!!!
Dude, you can make everything look professional 😄😅
So dope bro! Been waiting on mine for a month and a half on backorder. Thanks for feeding the need for absolutely BA footage!
I see you flexing those yeezys I see you 👀
Peter hypebeast McKinnon
Feaker, The Creature they suit him well though!
Damn straight, got my own pair of beluga 2.0s and they dont suit me hence why I never wear them but those really suit him!
Quarantine got me learning videography by taking youtube crash courses lol. Thanks Pete! Timeless videos!
Peter, I just joined a college and I'm watching this at 144p. I feel like I'm not doing justice to your videos.
i feel bad :(
I'm waiting for mine to load at 480p then I'll play
just wait the 2 years for the whole video to load in 1080 lol
Are you all guys living in 90s
They are just living in a shithole country.
Axel Samuelsson I see! Do you own one right now?
Alex Hussein Sadly not, but I’m thinking of buying. I want to buy it but it also depends on the specs on the Fujifilm XT-3.
Axel Samuelsson nice, let me know how it is. I’m going to look at a lot of videos!
Alex Hussein Yeah do so, subscribe to my channel I’m releasing my first edit from iscghl this winter. Great videos bro!
Sir , You are really the B-Roll king. Speechless!!
Sir! I am from India. You are great ....your B-roll with music is spot-on. I like your work very much. Sir! Please suggest me a good camera (I you have free time) for vlogging...any camera because I have a very tight budget.
I ask myself EVERYTIME I watch one of your videos; How is it possible for you to do these epic videos with a lengh of >10min. in auch a short time😳
Just downloaded your Lightroom preset pack! Super excited.
Hey @petermckinnon million dollar question... Do you think this can replace say a Ronin M for someone like me who does mostly YT and some outside client work?
Michael T Panetta Same question from me.
Noah Wilcox Films I am currently using the A7 RII with usually a Sony 24-70mm or the Sigma 18-35 with the sigma adapter..
I use the same lenses. Peter said he got a 16-35mm in this vid. Definitely would say that the Ronin-S would be a good replacement for YT and Client work.
Noah Wilcox Films perfect!!! Thanks.. now to sell my Ronin M.. lol
Just ordered mine! Can’t wait to put it to work!!!
Dear Santa...
Another great video. Love that you're back in your home studio.
Next Bollywood style 😆😙
Really good to hear you like our Ronin-S. Keep making great content!
Gimbal is buttery just like those yeezys!! 🔥🔥
I love watching your product videos because it creates ideas and allows us to see how you get your buttery smooth footage, but I also find myself putting off making videos because I fool myself into thinking that I need this to get the next great video. Either way, love these types of videos that allos us to see how we can improve in the future.
yoooo whats up Peter McKinnon..
*Bwhats up
Watching this video on a road trip! Love your stuff Pete.
Great video, nothing like unstable footage making you want to click away. Could you do a video on the best equipment for those on a tighter budget? :)
Madison B nah, bad audio is even worse
Agreed, but shaky footage is still unnecessary
FeiyuTech A1000 is a good option if your camera+lens is within it's max weight limit of 3.7lbs. Obviously it's not as good as the Ronin-S but it has many of the same features and cost less than half of it at 320$. Probably one of the better gimbal options if you're on a budget
Thank you!
I’m not even planning on making footage on this level but Peter is so awesome and the videos are aesthetically pleasing. So I watch and enjoy! And learn too in case I do want to step up my game.
Anyone else feel like he spat coffee on you after that awesome B-roll intro?
"Pwats💦 up everyone!"
And now I must continue to wait while B+H continues to send me dear Scott letters. Been waiting two months now... ARGH!
hello, Peter we are watching from KENYA. You should visit KENYA again.
Life Probe hi Kenya
Hey Wesley Insley.
Hey +Life Probe greeting from INDONESIA
Hello, Agus Dwi Yudha. nice meeting you here.
These b-roll sequences. You need to do a tutorial on just how you make your b-roll sequences, like, we get the basics, but for whatever reason, I cannot get anything to look as dope as what you make. You are awesome dude, solid job.
Why not try mounting a gimbal on another gimbal. Who knows you might get much more smoother footage.
Yh, it's big brain time
Beautifully executed comparison examples, Peter. They really showcase the usefulness of this gimbal tool, and buttery quality of the footage produced with it. I love no-BS, real-world product demos and this one is professionally done and very convincing. Thanx
Imagine a using this with a panasonic gh5, and a stabilized lens
You get
In body stabilization
Lens stabilization
Gibal stabilization
And to make you footage even smoother you can shoot at high frame rates and do slo mo and even add warp stabilizer in post if you want but it would probably be unnecessary and make.little to no difference but still, all methods of stabilization combined would be phenomenal
Tarek Al-Shawwa if it is like the DJI Osmo, you have to turn off the camera stabilization, or the two will counteract with each other and make your film jittery.
I use it with a Sony a7iii with in body stabilization and it smooths it out more so than with it off.
The gimbal acts functionally as a tripod. You rarely want camera stabilization on in those situations.
I started learning Adobe suite/photography/media esq things in may (coming from a science only background) and I can honestly say your channel taught me everything I've learned .... better than any professor I've ever encountered for sure haha😁👌 thanks so much
It will be great if do some comparison with the Ronin-m 😫♥️♥️♥️♥️👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻I’m so confused between them
Finally I have been waiting so long for this video
I need infinite roll ASAP
its THE BEST AHHHHHHHH I need to make sure not top use it every 7 minutes.
$421 Moza AirCross does it
Haha, I would use it 24/7. Also, your video with Cody inspired me so much! Creating SO MUCH CONTENT. Thank you!
Thats the problem I see. Everyone will now want to use it. but HOW does adding a roll improve on your video? There are times where I wish I had it, but those times are very rare. Maybe once or twice that I was shooting I wish I had it.
Just add a rotation animation in the post for time being..
I can’t hear that Eisenhower clip without thinking of “Love like Rockets” by AVA. Can’t wait for that doc!
I predict that youtube is going to be swamped with roll videos from here on out. This is already overdone with bigger cameras like the arri with a Trinity head, but now it will be over done with vloggers..🤦🏻♂️
ekphotography yep
oh for sure, but then we'll get tired of it and we'll go back to old moves that will become popular again! It's all a big cycle haha
You gave the most helpful advice without being too complicated. Thank you
Sir,

I really like how you're always enthusiastic in all your videos, it what makes you unique in my opinion. Great video as always☺️
The gimbal is definitely an improvement. Especially with the walking/running shots. Cool info.
watched this video and another 4 ronin s related, then decided to buy one, it's a beast love it
Love it. Mine is backordered - waiting to get my hands on it and fly the C200 and M50. EXCITED. Thanks for the video, Pete.
This is how a review should be!! Huge thumb up!
Thanks!
Super dooper smooth! Great stuff!
Your success and following is so well-deserved!
Man i have been using a glidecam for a while and almost despised using motorized gimbals but after seeing this it has changed my mind, might have to pick one up
Buttery smooth! Wonder what would be more smooth than butter... super conductor smooth!😉 Great breakdown btw!👍👍
Superb, just got the Ronin S and can’t wait to give it a test run. Thanks Peter thing like the setting for the 360 roll is really useful.
You are a legend in my book as far as video-cinematography is concerned. Thanks Bro !!
I don't need one...but I want one!!! Great video Peter!!
