Anyone think Nathan deserves a better nickname? If so, put a "Like" under this comment and give your suggestion if any! And is there any other skaters' nicknames you wanna see? Let us know in the comment as well. Cheers~
I think almost the bad nickname for Nathan is because he is a Chinese but also an American.I saw some comments before was about the China people commented a girl from America but Chinese “what a pity the girl not representing China ”😂😅
@@人参-y3f Yes you are right. When we did our research, we saw many people commenting on him saying that he looks like Chinese but skate for USA. That's why they didn't like him. Another skater who got a bad nickname in China is Patrick Chan, same reason as Nathan as well. Basically both No. 2 and No. 3 as description words are derogatory. We didn't have enough time to explain.. No. 2 has a meaning of being arrogant. No. 3 just means bad. Haiz..
@@whitneylu9986 Yes that too. Coz Nathan couldn't speak Chinese despite being a Chinese descendant. And yeah it's not important to Nathan at all.. I am from China. The nick name for Anna is actually not what the video explained. The real explanation for Anna's nick name is her elegance and well-educated class gesture seems like she is the daughter from a noble family.
Also Hanyu's name in Kanji also fits him perfectly in Chinese meaning.羽生结弦。羽 means feather or wings生means born 弦could mean silk strings used by ancient Chinese musical instrument Guqin or Guzheng or Erhu to play music, so basically his original name in Chinese means "Born with wings to fly into sky and dance with music".And this could lead to the imagination of a white crane or swan dancing in the sky, and crane is the national bird in China. So we once used ancient poetry to describe him as "飄若驚鴻,婉若游龙。” which means "His body soars lightly like a startled swan, Gracefully, like a dragon in sky." I prefer to call him羽生cuz it's really beautiful.
After 2020 NATIONALS, HANYU got his new nickname from Chinese fans -- “Eternal God”(永远的神). 😂 And his SP nickname is 'excited baby'(嗨宝)、FS is called 'God of War'(战神 Because the music depicts the most famous war gods in Japanese history, Kenshin Uesugi, who was good at fighting but looked forward to peace)。

OMG Me too!! I found these 3 nicknames the funniest! I choked so bad at the White Bear. I already know Instant Noodle after reading their description. Then when Ghislain come, they said "White Bear". I was like.. Is it because Ghislain looks like bear? Then immediately a photo of Ghislain and bear side by side, I laughed so bad at that point! :PPP

Hahaha actually we just realized (Thanks to some Chinese who commented in our comment section) that Sasha has another really really funny and spot on nickname in China. Some Chinese fans called her - 特鲁索夫, which is the translation of Trusov (As if she is a "Guy" not a girl) This is because she got so many quad jumps and can really compete with the men. So funny right?! And many many more interesting nicknames. We are definitely thinking about part 2 later to include more :P
This is so entertaining! I laughed so bad throughout the video. I like the celebrities reactions on the nicknames too! They are so full of humor themselves. 19:41 - Anyone noticed Yuzu is trying to step up when he was taking photo with the RUclipsr so he appears taller? This is so hilarious. Thank you for this video. They love Hanyu so much that each of Hanyu”s program has a nickname as well. Hanyu is our beloved one. 👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh really?? That’s so interesting! We just started learning about the nicknames and searched about it fanatically last months. So Creative and we were so amused :p Can you explain more? Like nickname for each of Hanyu’s program?
@@FigureSkatingFan Some of the well known Chinese nicknames for Hanyu's programs are 小罗密欧(Little Romeo, impression of a young figure skater) for his 2012WC FS; 巴散 for Parisienne Walkways (巴黎 散步道,just picking out the first characters of paris and walkways); 牛丽叶 for his second Romeo&Juliet (Juliet is 朱丽叶in Chinese, so it's Juliet with a Hanyu twist); 魅影先生 (Mr. Phantom, with his COC ver. as 血魅,phantom in blood); 叙神(God Ballade, Ballade-叙事曲) and 晴皇(King/Emperor Seimei,Seimei-晴明), with an additional remark of these two collectively known as the dual Jade pieces of the empire '帝国双璧' etc. And there are the ones with the more convoluted interpretations and origins such as Notre dame, H&L, Origin and his exhibition programs, along with alternative names for the same program LOL

Hahaha what a nickname for Romsky! :P But unfortunately this waist holding video is going viral only in RUclips but not in Chinese internet (They can't access RUclips easily), and Romsky is not so famous among the Chinese figure skating fans community, so we couldn't find any nickname about him there yet. In this video, we will introduce the nickname of #Plushenko, #Sasha, #Alyona, #Eteri, #Daniil, #Anna, #Kamila, #Alina, #Zhenya, #TeamBO (Brian, Tracy, Ghislain), #Javi, #Shoma, #Nathan, then #Yuzu. A lot of nicknames you probably would never have thought about haha.. They really live in another world due to the lack of access to RUclips / IG etc. Yet they are so full of imagination. We died laughing when we were reading about those nicknames they gave for the players. Stay tuned for the full video release 😂😆😜 EDIT: Yes we found some who really called him 搂腰哥 - Waist Holder Brother hahaha
I laughed out specially with “noodle sister” even as a Chinese. hahahaha who ever named her is a genius! There is correction: For Anna 千金. Not only represent from Rich family, it’s a honorific title to someone’s daughter who is polite, well educated, nice , kind pretty much all the positive things to have for the girl. Compacted to explain but in short, the title/nickname contains the best of the best love and all positives on a girl. For Nathan Chan. 三儿 in this term the “儿” is a modal particle, doesn’t contain meaning when used like this. In Chinese grammar it called 儿化音. also “小三” in this situation should trans as “the third” or more likely “the little three”. Easier to understand would be Michael to Mike. Somehow Similar to 儿化音 but in different ways. Definition “Homewrecker” is a slang, abbreviation of the third (三)party of the marriage/ relationship(婚姻第三者,第三者)this definition only triggers or 99% times involving in relationships and normally on females. For my loved Saha! We also call her 莎皇. Queen Sasha/ Empress Sasha The same to others. At last, thank you for sharing! Really enjoyed
Exactly! I hate those fans who keep trashing athletes who beat their idol in the competition. They also spread rumors about those athletes. Shame on them!
Thank you for the video. It was fun to watch. I love that chinese nicknames of Brian and Tracy. In Russia many fs fans call Brian as "Batya" (dad) Orser and Tracy as "Mama" (mom) Tracy
Wow! Thank you for letting us know! It's so interesting to hear about the Russia nicknames for foreigners. Daddy and Mommy - so cute! Any other interesting nicknames for the skaters and coach? **So interested in different languages and cultures here** 😀💕
@@FigureSkatingFan usually in Russia we just use short version of name or surname. But the only interesting i can remember is Plushenko's nickname. "Plush" in russian means hedera
@@FigureSkatingFan Yes, and some call Evgenia "medvezhonok", wich means a baby bear 🐻, we also call Sasha Trusova "Rocket", Alеna Kostornaya is "Angel", Tarasova and Morozov "Gingers" (Ryzhiki), Boikova and Kozlovski "Kittens" (Kisiki)
Chinese figure skater fan heavily on Weibo here. Most contents are totally correct. Bravo and Thanks for introducing these to the world. Couple corrections and additional comments. Kostornaya’s nickname 飞天 (fly high) is popularized long before that program. I think a famous Weibo account first called her that because her jumps are really high. In fact most Russian skater girls are get a nickname when they are novice or even younger. For example, Akatiyeva is called 七妹(Seven sister) because she is born 2007.7.7
Also 千金 doesn’t just mean that Anna is from a wealthy family. It also describes a personal charisma (气质): Well-educated, gentle, calm, smart, humble and have good taste. (Anna fan here haha)
Another fun one is Tarakanova. Her nickname is 歪歪. 歪 means not straight or leaning. She gained this nickname because her jump axis is leaning very often.
Thanks for all the information!!! SO nice to hear that 千金 actually meant something nice like this.. Coz we heard some Chinese people hate people from rich family.. So at first we thought Chinese don't like Anna and we were so sad! Now with your clarification, we are so happy to hear that :) We love Anna too!! The nickname for 歪歪 is genius!!! A few months ago, we saw a Reddit post "Do you know Eteri Tutberidze is called Instant Noodle Sister" in China? We were immediately intrigued and amused. As we read more, we realize Chinese fans really like giving nicknames to celebrities based on their characteristics. Why call Eteri Noodle sister? You might have guessed it instantly. Join us for the Premier of this super funny Chinese nicknames introduction video, premiering on 18 December, GMT 12pm ^^ **Special Feature: When Katniss Everdeen and other **#Hollywood** Stars found out they have a Chinese nickname..**
Well, actually we have other two nicknames that could express Nathan Chen’s inflated GOE and PCS. One is “百岁山”, a bottled mineral water manufacturer called “Ganten” in English. Another is “淼淼”,since “水” means water and “淼” contains three “水”.
Ahaha including that skating scene from Zhen Huan is the perfect start, and halfway through I finally realized Wuji was playing 😂 tysm for this great video
"K-Bao" can also mean "K-Treasure"; Medvedava's nickname may be a shortened way to call her, but when I first heard of this nickname, I thought of peach flower doll (never heard her name in Chinese so never knew), which is pretty beautiful as a nickname
你知道的太多了🤣 I laughed so hard, even though I’ve already known their Chinese nicknames. You explained them clearly so that our foreign friends can understand what they actually mean. TBH, I’ve never realized that Chinese fans are so creative and so mean lol
Haha yes it took us around 1-2 months to crawl all the articles and asked many friends for the meanings before we decided to make this video. But we learnt so much ourselves and the entire process was so fun! Even when we were editing the video we couldn't stop ourselves from laughing.. Some even choked when we put Ghislain and the Bear photos side by side.. We might make a part 2 as there's still a lot of nicknames we couldn't cover but they are really funny too.. Stay tuned 😂😀💕
@@FigureSkatingFan Appreciate the hard work! I know about the nicknaming culture of the Chinese people because their language is so different. From that the creativity is born lol.
This is very rare that people of China loves very much Yuzuru which is Japanese, i just watched internet recently, one Japanese famous director had pop up "the gay issue" toward Yuzu, but you see, i am so surprised that so many hundreds people in China defend Yuzuru, my goodness...am so happy for Yuzu, see..not only Japanese fan, Chinese Fan also are the biggest fan of Yuzuru! 羽生加油↖(^ω^)↗,我们很爱你! 🥰💖💖💖❤❤
Yes it's quite interesting seeing how Chinese fans defend Yuzuru. We also see a lot of Russian / Spanish comments in supporting of him too. He is that good that people forget about his nationality and just support him regardless. As for the gay part, haiz it's really sad and many of my Japanese male friends also told me the same - like he's so gay, this sport is for ladies not men. If a man does it they are mostly gay blah blah blah.. I'm for LGBT community but frankly this stereotype is so annoying~
I think Japanese sportsman who have express respect to the Chinese and do not comment on Chinese politics are generally well received in China. Like one of the retired Japanese Table Tennis pal her is also quote popular

When we were researching it online, we had a really good laugh ourselves too!! Chinese people are genius in nickname department. We really have to give it to them :P
@@maritessposadas3360 Super agree. Haha that name also inspired us to search rampantly through the Chinese internet for more nicknames and thus this video :D
anya's nickname is mostly from her elegance and modesty. also千 means thousand and 金 means gold so it could also be referred to since Anya has collected so many gold medals.
I'm from Hong Kong! It's amazing you have put in so much "life" in the names. You've really brought out the idiosyncrasies in the names! Loved the instant noodle name for eteri. Well she cycles her skaters so quickly; the name is suitable!
I love Jin Boyang's nickname (Tiantian) the most, but i think it's his irl nickname and not the one given by fans, per se? Nevertheless, it sounds SO CUTE. What an amazing video, TYSM!
Yes Tiantian (Sky) is a nickname given by his parent. They initially wanted to name him "Jin Tian" instead of "Jin Boyang". So it become his nickname and the fans call him that too.. That's why we didn't include that in the video haha :P But yes we love this nickname of Boyang too!! 💓💕
Tbh I think we don’t like NC mainly because he got so much GOE and PCS due to the love of ISU when he didn’t perform to that level, especially the long wait before each jump, the not so great axel, the lack of transitions, etc.. another reason of course, is because he’s a rival of Yuzuru but we don’t think he reached the level of Yuzuru. When Yuzuru was working on different artistry and transition skills, all NC needed to do was jump jump jump and he’ll win… at the very last, fans don’t like him because he openly used his influence to express dislike towards Chinese policy. But about Patrick Chan, I think most of the Chinese fans do like him… at least I do lol.
In addition, Queen is usually only used for Yuma Kim haha, just like the west. However I do feel super exposed as a Chinese figure skating fans😂 y’all did so well researching this😂
I do agree abt. NC. His scores have been recalculated by experts and too many times they were inflated dye to clear ISU reasons...if Yuzuru Hanyu had been American, his way would have been full of gold medals and all deserved. About Patrick Chan, he was a super champ..

All the AI's are super hilarious as well. Eteri team pancake name is hilarious. Nathan deserves his nickname. lmao. I just love that yuzu is so loved. Great video!!
YES!! We are glad to help :)) Coz Chinese Weibo always have those livestream :) Many people told us during this Japanese National livestream that they could recognize many Chinese words after this video. And we are so happy to hear 😆💕
我们Alena的中国粉丝之前讨论过的关于飞天的英语意思"Feitian" is derived from a Chinese idiom, which means to surprise everyone with talent and proficiency, at someone's first attempt at something.
As someone that is Japanese I thought the Chinese fans might call Hanyu San something along the lines of wings bc of his insane ability to jump but laughing cow lmao I love it
The "Ha" from my understanding is because phonetically, it's probably quite close and has a cute laugh so called him "laughing cow", though, as explained in the video, it's more about how great he is
It,'s interesting the reason why they give nicknames to foreigners...As we, with european roots, can't sometimes pronounce the names of some Asians, for the Asians might as well be hard to pronounce names from outside their regions...so, they invent nicknames...
Yes you are so right. Also, Chinese is like a pictogram language. 1 word can have a lot of meaning. Normally they just need 1-2 words to describe whatever they wanna say. Their names also have a lot of significance on their characteristics. English / Latin names are driving them crazy so they invent the nicknames.. Which is kinda genius :)
@@FigureSkatingFan Chinese are well known for their inventivity. But, what I don't understand is why is harder for Europeans to remember their names, ( this goes for the Korean names, too) formed only by three syllables ? It must be linked to how our brains function, or it's just a matter of culture...
@@magkal8690 The reverse is also true :) I had a Chinese friend whom I was doing language exchange with. I remember there's once I wrote "I just like ice skating" to her. She told me it's too long, she can't remember at all. When I translated it to "我喜歡滑冰“, which means the same thing but to me it's way longer and tedious to write. But she replied, "That's better". That kinda opened my eyes. The thing is, everything takes practice. Our brain has the tendency to reject something we are unfamiliar with at first. It takes a lot of persuasion and practice to train our brains to understand totally new things (apply to both languages or skills). But once it gets through the initial hurdle, everything will be better. My take is, just read more Chinese/Korean/Japanese (If you are interested) and don't be afraid even if you can't remember, then you will find it easier to remember...
@@FigureSkatingFan Quite true. It's exactly as for the faces. I mean, an european ( caucasian) can't make the difference , at the first glance, between asian faces ( or african) , but, with a little bit of will and practice, can teach his brain to recognize between those faces. And I guess it goes the same for Asians and Africans with Europeans.
@@magkal8690 Yes you are so right. When we first published a video about Nathan and Yuzu's sportsmanship: ruclips.net/video/D70JiTOEa3g/видео.html There was a comment saying he couldn't tell the difference between both Yuzu and Nathan as they look exactly the same to him. Some of us really thought he's being racist for saying that. Then when we published another video about sportsmanship best and worst moments: ruclips.net/video/IgcgUWI6hPI/видео.html Someone messaged told us she couldn't tell the difference between Nancy & Tonya. She wanna know who hits who as she's confused. At that moment we suddenly realised the first person who comment he couldn't tell the differences between Yuzu and Nathan, he's not being racist. He probably really couldn't tell the difference. I suddenly recalled the first time I watched Korean Drama years ago, I also couldn't tell who is who. So, perhaps we could all make this world a better place with a little bit of understanding about each others' shortcomings and differences :)

I swear Chinese people really gave fun way to give Chinese nicknames. 😜🤪🤩 Hahaha trust us we have a good laugh ourselves everytime we swarm in this Chinese internet discussion. New nicknames keep appearing! :P Really thinking hard about how to make a part 2 that’s interesting as well haha
Everybody: has a cute or funny nickname
Trusova: Just Sasha
Hahaha actually we just realized (Thanks to some Chinese who commented in our comment section) that Sasha has another really really funny and spot on nickname in China. Some Chinese fans called her - 特鲁索夫, which is the translation of Trusov (As if she is a "Guy" not a girl) This is because she got so many quad jumps and can really compete with the men. So funny right?! And many many more interesting nicknames. We are definitely thinking about part 2 later to include more :P
I heard another nick name for Trusova is “战斗萝莉” which means fighting Lolita. That combines her fighting spirit with her pretty look.
This is so entertaining! I laughed so bad throughout the video. I like the celebrities reactions on the nicknames too! They are so full of humor themselves. 19:41 - Anyone noticed Yuzu is trying to step up when he was taking photo with the RUclipsr so he appears taller? Hahaha he is so competitive not just on ice, on height too!! :-D
Very good observation!!!
Lol! What can I say? These Chinese people who give those nicknames are genius haha! Didn't expect that those nicknames are so meaningful... But some nicknames meaning really...Not that good! As what you said: "They love you, they give you a nickname. They hate you, they give you a nickname too..." 😂
Suggest a better nickname for Nathan please :)
@@FigureSkatingFan , yes, yes !!!!! That's exactly what i was thinking :) !!!!!!!
@@FigureSkatingFan What for? Chinese skating funs will still use the nicknames they have already created anyway ......
As a Chinese, I feel very much exposed lmaooo When I first started watching live broadcast figure skating comps I was so bewildered by all these nicknames in the comments section lol, I couldn't figure out who were they referring to, but now I join in the fun haha
P.S. My fav nickname is the one for Elizaveta Tuktamysheva = 蔡明姐
Hahahah chinese are genius!! When we watched the Japanese National on the QQ livestream, we couldn’t stop laughing when we saw all these nicknames appeared :p yes we just learnt about 蔡明姐 story!! Super adorable! Thinking hard on part 2 now :p

Omg same!! 收银台 made me choke on my spit 🤣🤣🤣
@@anthonyleeuw5222 Wow didn't know that! Thanks for the information. Love the Chinese fans! Soo creative!!!
You can make another video
This is a really well made video that explained Chinese language and the nicknames that we use on different characters. Very impressed and thank you for making this awesome video
Romsky nick name is waist holder or something like that 🤣🤣
Hahaha what a nickname for Romsky! Stay tuned for the full video release 😂😆😜
EDIT: Yes we found some who really called him 搂腰哥 - Waist Holder Brother hahaha
That is the best thing I've heard today

Zui Chen 不是哦。也不是香港/台湾人 😅 我们是一个团队。我个人的国籍就不说了哈哈🤫
I laughed out specially with “noodle sister” even as a Chinese. hahahaha who ever named her is a genius!
There is correction:
For Anna 千金.
Queen Sasha/ Empress Sasha
The same to others.
At last, thank you for sharing! Really enjoyed
哈!太有趣了!😄「柚子」這個暱稱很可愛!
我也最喜歡柚子了!但還是希望不要單單因為其他選手 贏過 自己喜歡的選手,而產生敵意

Exactly! I hate those fans who keep trashing athletes who beat their idol in the competition. They also spread rumors about those athletes. Shame on them!
Everything is amazing, but I want to take a moment to appreciate "Wu Ji" in the background. Thanks to whoever decided to put it on.

Yuzuru hanyu master be my love fever slime with me my heart 🤗💗💗💗💗💗💗😍
I think I would settle for the Nickname of YUZU as "ICE PRINCE" !!!!
哈牛 is still better in my opinion because it's unique and only meant for him 🤠
Thank you for the video.
Tisha Ic!! Yes I know some people also call evgenia zhenya or Medved which means bear?
Chinese people are genius with all the fun nicknames!! :DD Definitely hope we can make a part 2 and introduce more nicknames to the world. Now collecting information and thinking about storyline. Please keep them coming :))
Fun fact: In China, biaojie 表姐 is viewed as someone who is very cool. Chinese people think that JLaw is cool so they call her 大表姐。
Well, actually we have other two nicknames that could express Nathan Chen’s inflated GOE and PCS. One is “百岁山”, a bottled mineral water manufacturer called “Ganten” in English. Another is “淼淼”,since “水” means water and “淼” contains three “水”.
我刚想说来着
Ahaha including that skating scene from Zhen Huan is the perfect start, and halfway through I finally realized Wuji was playing 😂 tysm for this great video
Hahaha Finally someone mentioned about Zhen Huan clip!! Yes this is the comment we are waiting for! We love that drama Zhen Huan Zhuan :))
"K-Bao" can also mean "K-Treasure";
Medvedava's nickname may be a shortened way to call her, but when I first heard of this nickname, I thought of peach flower doll (never heard her name in Chinese so never knew), which is pretty beautiful as a nickname
Wow 😯 This video looks very interesting! Can’t wait! 😚

I had a lot of laugh watching this video, great job! It must have taken a lot of research work compiling this information.
@@FigureSkatingFan >I'm for LGBT community but frankly this stereotype is so annoying~
lolol many of us in the lgbtq+ community have an issue with these stereotypes too, everyone loses from it~ 😔i hope people can just stop connecting unrelated things to sexuality someday

oh you guys found out our secrets🤣🤣
Yo I was surprised with LWJ and WWX pairs program there 😂😂♥️
Where was that?!
Didn't expect such a video would exist and being popular lol!

我们Alena的中国粉丝之前讨论过的关于飞天的英语意思"Feitian" is derived from a Chinese idiom, which means to surprise everyone with talent and proficiency, at someone's first attempt at something.
Wow thanks for the information. But we wonder why this nickname is not given to Sasha instead if it’s about someone’s first attempt to do something..

somebody pls lemme know who made that fanart (0:50) for Yuzuru
Thank you for this video, it was very interesting!

OMG this is the comment I'm looking for. Yup my sis call him 额头一卷毛 (Curly hair on the forehead) and in OG2018, when Nathan cut that curly hair on his forehead, she's so sad saying.. "Where's that hair?" :P
@@chunghuey113 I honestly love Nathan's hair especially after seeing it in one of aeterniti's 2018 Olympics videos! That nickname your sis gave him is so cute!
@@brettshair3151 Haha! And she's so happy recently coz that hair of Nathan is back and stick around in the recent competitions. She's like - Please don't cut into that hair style into OG2018 again. That hair (Especially that curly part on his forehead) seems to bring him good luck and makes his programs look so cool!! :D
I swear Chinese people really gave fun way to give Chinese nicknames. I live in Canada and the nickname given to him is small potato because his last name sounds like potato (tudou in pinyin) and since he is the son of ex-prime minister, he is added the nickname small since he is "potato son". Our school's name is sometimes wrongly written from "beuf" (last syllable of the name) to "bœuf" meaning beef. Because of that, some Chinese people calls our school "beef school"
Gosh, the Chinese really have some good taste since they actually notice that one “Pirate of the Caribbean” from Javi. I mean, look at 13:38
Ikr! Surprisingly Chinese fans seem to have good taste for figure skating!!
@@FigureSkatingFan they really do tbh. I’m a huge fan of that performance from Javi and sadly it’s not as popular as Man of La Mancha or the others
Actually sometimes fanyu calls him 牛哥. 牛means cow,in Chinese,it also means awesome.哥means older brother.Because hanyu sound like 哈牛.
Can you introduce the Chinese nickname of each costume of Yuzu😆
О, да! Юзуру ледяной принц, король и император! Три в одном 💗
Lol I died when you revealed Nathan's nickname.
Haha it's a bit mean but.. haha witty Chinese 😂
Just goes to show how nasty Fanyus can be, no matter what country they're from. Can't be helped, since Nathan is such a huge threat to their idol. Nathan fans, on the other hand, don't care enough about Hanyu to bother giving him nasty nicknames. It's all good ^^
@@divinearia1601 True. They can be salty. But i want Nathan fan to know that alot of Fanyus love Nathan too. He is so amazing and there is nothing to be ashame of losing to him.
@@divinearia1601 strange he’s not well liked in China more so he has Chinese DNA in him.
