I get football rules the college landscape, but March Madness generates $1B each year. If the SEC/B10 wants to "do their own thing" in football, let 'em. The Men's Basketball Tournament (owned by the NCAA) could then say "only members in good standing" can play in the tournament. Imagine no SEC or B10 schools playing in March.

@@roris5882 They dont actually have as much power as you think. Money yes, but money doesnt necessarily = power.
If you push the issue of the playoffs against the G5 and push the narrative to take them out, imo youre gonna see side of the G5 that is worse than your harshest nightmares. Teams from the CUSA, WAC and MWC sued the league back in 09-12 in football and it was a MAJOR PROBLEM for the league. In all legal reality the existence of the CFP was largely to quell these lawsuits. The P5 wanted to f&ck around with monetary control and the G5 responded with the fiercest actions that exist in this country. The Civil lawsuits were for $240 Million, the State lawsuits were for $460 million, and these werent even the harshest actions.
Oh you like you $500 million media deal? Gonna look real nice while youre throating a $2 billion lawsuit for federal corruption and anti-trust. Thats what the 09-12 lawsuits were. $2.8 billion in damages for violating federal and state laws.
Yes congress is unreliable, but if the B10 and SEC think they are above the law - they may want to check their math again. 26 States do not have schools in their conferences. Monetary gains of public schools from post season events are taxable revenue streams for state governments. So when you create a new league you push 26 state governments at a loss of taxable revenue. You should know by now that governments get incredibly pissed off when you steal taxable revenue. Of all the "power" the B10 and SEC have do you really think they have the power to dismay 26 state governments legal action against them? Cuz thats the road your going down........ Anytime you have more than 1 state government suing a company for something it nearly always results in a federal lawsuit.
Not to mention you have G5 universities like Boise State, Nevada, Utah State and Fresno State that were a part of the civil and state action lawsuits against the NCAA and BCS in 09-12. What do you think happens if these universities sued the B10 and SEC? They have to provide justification for their suit. They were told that with the CFP running the show corruption wouldnt occur. And yet 6 undefeated G5 teams still didnt make the playoffs in the CFP era. That directly contradicts what the NCAA and CFP told them in 14, to stand them down from their lawsuits. That was clearly a lie. So now if they a file a new lawsuit all they really have to do is admit the previous lawsuit as justification and evidence and its pretty much a slam dunk case. On the federal level US Senate Committee stated that the NCAA and BCS were in violation with anti-trust and anti-corruption laws in this country. Theres CSPAN documented evidence of this. They have overwhelming evidence that these the league as whole caused monetary damage to these conferences - AND they have documented proof from 2010 that specificlaly the B10 and SEC cause detrimental harm to the WAC and MWC. PLUS they also have about 60 years of evidence of power conferences causing monetary harm agaiinst them.
Thats a sh!tload of evidence to go against and feel confident that your bill at the end of the trial doesnt end in tens of BILLIONS of dollars of penaltities.

The logic displayed here is hard for me to wrap my head around. It's like their getting angry and trying to stop rain from falling. They're upset that a gap is growing, and they don't want the other 2 conferences to keep climbing the ladder. The top 25 most viewed college football games in 2023 says it all. Outside of the B1G & SEC, and the teams leaving to join those conferences... only 2 of the top 25 games didn't have either of those conferences in them. And they were both Colorado (Prime Time effect).
The fact that the B1G & SEC doesn't want other conferences taking credit for the playoff viewership numbers that they generated. Which is proven because they can't generate those number on their own. Which is similar to the FSU situation.
How does someone justify even revenue split? If they're so worried about a gap being formed, why aren't they advocating for the G5 & ND to all get even distribution? They complained about access, and they were given access. Now they want even distribution! In football metrics, any football grading scale... how are they even? besides the number of teams.
It seems like they're upset that a natural gap is forming. And by their own admission, "can't fill the gap." So let's call them greedy. As if the shoe was on the other foot, they would do things differently.

Probably true. You have to do the same thing. If your ancillary viewership drops and you aren’t part of the NCAA B Ball Tournament, you will also be making less money in the future.
The NCAA also generates 1 Billion annually.
The playoff shouldn’t be guaranteed to anyone other than the conference champion. Every other invite should be based on merit. Top 12 teams no matter what conference affiliation. The SEC/B10 will get plenty of teams in normally and that should determine how much playoff money each conference generates annually.
If they want to strong arm everyone, yes I would rather they break completely away and play each other only.
The rest will hold their own playoff, continue the NCAA Tournament.
That way each league can compete at a level that is more competitive and equitable.
The biggest issue for the mid and lower teams in the SEC/B10 is they will still never be competitive. The same 10 teams will always win the championship.
I think that will become stale after the newness wears off and all the chest pumping dies down.
Meanwhile there will still be parity in the future B12, etc. Which is far more attractive to fans. Personally I hope it happens.

No, the NCAA could not be foolish to try that or do that, and crybabies like the Big12 would not want that either. The best thing is to have full access and disclosure but if the BiG10 and SEC want to separate, let them. In 4-5 years they will rehash that idiotic decision and realize more money to be made with the G5 and Big12 and ACC in football than without. Now if they break away from the NCAA, then it might be possible. But a lot of rules and regulations and restrictions and penalties for the schools staying in the NCAA systems and for those who are not. This also means the federal government would have to get involved and regulate much of this to really protect the NCAA system and schools staying on and those leaving the NCAA systems. The SEC and BiG10 and any other conference or colleges involved would take a big hit but so would all the schools staying under the NCAA umbrella systems, and now the government is involved. Do you or anyone else really want that chaos of organization and control involved? There are many other ways to stick it to the P2 conferences than that.

Guys, right now, the Big 12 is in the process of doing more disruptive innovations like Big 12 - Mexico and Rucker Park than any league in the nation. What if the Big 12 has success with Mexico and then goes to South America, Canada, and across the globe. Now, we have a far greater audience than the SEC and Big 10 combined for ESPN International (not ESPN, Inc) with televised games broadcast in multiple languages and a great many other podcasts with those languages. For centuries, disruptive innovation has always displaced those leading the competition with the most revenues. Right now, our strategic advantage in this international expansion effort are the members of those religions who sponsor a number of our Big 12 member schools like Baylor, BYU, and TCU. Neither the SEC nor the B1G can even compete because they lack the religious affiliations members to compete. Such a draw has the potential of bringing Notre Dame or Duke (Catholics) to the table to participate with us in the Big 12.
Don't underestimate the amount of capital available to international religions institutions such as Baylor or BYU. Religious institutions have far more influence and financial support through tithes than you can imagine. How do you suppose BYU and Notre Dame has survived Independence if it was not from their sponsoring religions?
Let the SEC and b1G leave and form their own league! Their challenge in doing so means that the rest of the leagues can still hold a championship to play the winner out of the SEC and B1G. If such a championship does not happen then their championship becomes irrelevant and not recognized.

I commend you for trying to offer a solution, most only complain about the problems without offering any alternatives.
The reasons you typically don't play non-conference late in the year is because of the weather. Next year, Alabama plays Wisconsin at Wisconsin. If that was played in November or December, the advantage goes to Wisconsin. On the flip side, if they had to go to Alabama that time of year, the weather wouldn't be a factor. Plus, that's typically when rivalries are played. And being able to disappoint your rivals just means more. Look at Florida vd FSU last year. FSU prevented Florida from being bowl eligible with their backup QB. That had to feel good, that wouldn't feel the same week's earlier.
My solution is 0 auto bids... NONE! Top 12, 14, or 16 get it. Structure payment by round. The longer you go, the more that conference makes.

3 3 2 2 1 does not give anyone double the teams. How many years during the CFP era has the B1G had less than 3 teams in the top 14? How about the SEC? For the SEC never.
The courts have created this mess. No limits on NIL. No limits on transfers. Judges and politicians who know nothing about college sports are ignoring the universities and the fan base. Without the fan base, there is no money for players - or coaches.
Fine let every player get $10,000 or $20,000 per year, which would help all athletes. The current structure favors the handful of stars and really no one else. All based on judicial decisions.

The trickle-down effect by just a CFP separation of the SEC/B1G to other sports (basketball, baseball, non-revenue Olympic sports) is huge - eventually because of the disparity, they can then buy the best athletes for all of those sports and not just destroy college football, but the other sports as well. The best path for anyone not named Sankey/Pititti is if they want to separate, they separate in all sports. Agree with other comments - schedule no out-of-conference games with either the B1G or SEC and watch their relevance diminish. A true national champion in any sport can't come from 34 schools but could come from the other 100+ D1 schools. I'd also slap a class action anti-trust suit on them from all the other conferences and the NCAA (to include D2 and D3 shools) and watch them squirm. They are overplaying their hand because they think they are untouchable. They are not. Hubris will be their downfall.

@@jansonroberts2616 Definition of antitrust - Antitrust laws prohibit anticompetitive conduct and mergers that can harm consumers, taxpayers, and workers. That's the very definition of what the SEC and B1G are doing. They would be creating an unfair advantage harming the other conferences and schools from competing on a somewhat even level.
