The person who did the surgery on Ohtani is the head physician for the Dodgers. So likely good chance Dodgers have a good feeling he's gonna return to his normal self when your team doctor is the one who did it.

Ohtani is worth every penny and more. The Dodgers aren't just paying for a player, they invested in a global brand. He brings incredible value on the field but even more off it, to the point that this contact will pay itself in a matter of years for any team.

the MAJOR major thing about the Ohtani deal, that you overlooked especially at the end, was that it's heavily back-loaded. So he's not making 70mil a year, in fact he's making a lot but not as much as you'd really expect, because he wants them to be able to continue to build a winning team around him for the next decade. I'm not a Dodgers fan by any means, but I still think them having a Super Team is great for the sport and hopefully wakes up some of these sleeping owners in other franchises, plus would be cool to have another team like the 1980s-2000s Yankees.

As far as landscape of the MLB going forward, this huge deal will only change things slightly. Remember not so long ago when the Mets decided to break the bank to put a winning team on paper well how did that turn out? In order to build a winning culture, it does not matter what kind of market you have, you need to build a foundation from the ground up to win. That means drafting and developing well. The Tampa Bay Rays have shown alittle of what could be the potential of that mindset. Winning is what ultimately attracts the stars.

Alright so hear me out… I know imma get hate BUUUT I don’t care the dodgers do NOT have the best lineup, I ain’t saying that it’s bad (the top 3 players Betts, Ohtani, and Freeman, might literally be the best trio ever) however a teams lineup consists of 9 players, not just 3. The rest of their players are mediocre at best and there pitching staff needs work. Not saying their not elite, but Betts and Freeman can’t keep carrying the whole team on there backs. With Ohtani signed it will lighten the load a good bit, but not enough to dominate the playoffs. Besides, baseballs a wild game, you never know what’ll happen next.

Ohtani is a huge signing for the Dodgers, but there are a few concerns.
    1. Ohtani has played 0 meaningful games in September or later because his teams always missed the playoffs. We dont know how he would do when every game matters during those months, especially when you consider the fact the Betts was never good in the playoffs. Not saying Ohtani is bad in the playoffs yet because he hasnt played a playoff game yet, but this would he his 1st real attempt.
    2. Dodgers needs more starting depth. Buehler will be back which is good, but Bobby Miller and Ed Sheneen are there #2, #3 right now. Even if they get Kershaw back, hes injured for half the year, and even if he comes back, playoff Kershaw kills their run everytime. This sucks because Ohtani can't pitch in 2024.
    3. Dave Roberts over manages every situation. He is a great coach in the regular season, but anything besides a World Series win is a fail for them. Dave Roberts is awful in the playoffs. Getting Ohtani might help their offense in the playoffs, but it doesnt fix the bad bullpen decisions Dave Roberts does.
Not saying that this signing wont help the dodgers, because Ohtani is one of the best players in baseball, his skillset can help any team, but this one signing wont make the Dodgers win another WS. Thoughts???

Ohtani closed out a WBC final against 2 former MVPs, (Bumgarneresque). Ohtani put himself on as the winning run in the 9th v Mexico to tie the game and walk it off. Scoring 2 of the 6 runs japan put up. This was all vs MLB pitching too, so no excuses. Dude is a monster when he wants it. Absolutely no question he will show up in october

    • @greatnessdelton1381
      @greatnessdelton1381 10 месяцев назад

      Lol, what?
1-Did you not see what he did during the WBC-which was on a far bigger stage than the WS? Pressure clearly doesn't get to him.
2-The 2024 rotation is as follows
      Buehler
      Miller
      Pepiot
      Yarbrough
      Sheehan
It's essentially Buehler, a veteran there for innings, and three young SP's who've never pitched a full season before sandwiched between them.
Sheehan is not their #3, lol, and Miller is far from a "bad #2".
He's widely considered to have front of the rotation potential, was our #1 pitching prospect and was a top 30 prospect in all of baseball, and he did solid in his rookie season(3.76 ERA, 124 IP, 119 K's). Him taking a step forward next year will be huge.
Sheehan didn't do as well(4.92 ERA, 60 1/3 IP, 64 K's), but he's still got the stuff to be a back-end starter, and he skipped AAA entirely. The Dodgers called him up straight from AA. One more year in the minors, but in Triple-A, and you've developed a solid SP for the future.
Pepiot gets zero love. He was the most impressive Dodgers rookie last year, albeit in a VERY small sample size. 2.14 ERA, 42 IP, 38 K's after returning from a nasty hamstring injury suffered at the start of the year. He has a career 2.76 ERA in 78 1/3 IP and 80 K's in parts of two seasons at the MLB level and looks like a hidden gem IF he can stay healthy and is given more opportunities. He's already 26.
They've also still got top prospects like-
Gavin Stone(who the guy mentioned had a cup of coffee in the majors last year and is our top pitching prospect right now-#4 overall), who's looking to break into the rotation once and for all.
Nick Frasso(our #5 prospect), who's been widely coveted in trade talks. He's still thought to be a year away, but he will make his debut at some point next year and contribute some IP.
And River Ryan(our #8 prospect), who's also 25 and just came off a solid year in AAA, and is also going to make his MLB debut at some point next season.
The Dodgers, in addition to having a bunch of young arms in the rotation, also have a trio of really good pitching prospects in the minors that will either fight for SP spots or be trade bait to get a guy like Dylan Cease or Tyler Glasnow.
3-This is 2023. If you really believe Dave Roberts manages or "controls" anything, I don't know what to tell you. No MLB manager is actually a traditional manager anymore, making their own, real-time decisions. Every decision is already preplanned and micromanaged by their F/O before and during the game, and all they do is execute their orders under the guise that they're the ones doing it. There's managers on record like Kevin Cash and Alex Cora who have flat out admitted this.

The spending money thing does feel a bit unfair, and I don't know how it is in the MLB with luxury taxes, but as long as teams are willing to pay even those luxury taxes, MLB is just gonna open their bag for teams to pour the money in and look the other way. The one thing MLB has going for it is that even with a super team it's far from a guarantee to win the world series with baseball being a highly luck dependant game and the difficulty and layers of the MLB playoffs especially nowadays. Still, the Dodgers basically have to win 100+ games or a ring and anything less will be a failure with this much talent and cash spent.
